The tremolo right before he appears sells it, since that's also part of Ifukube's theme for Mechagodzilla, almost like it's a fakeout, but no, this time it's the real deal.
At this point in the timeline Showa Godzilla isn't playing around. He's lost friends and has chosen to live a life of solitude. And still humanity and aliens continue to test his patience.
Technically not he’s just in a really really bad mood because not only did he get his best friends Josh shattered into two pieces. He’s also witnessed allies like zone fighter, go down and never talk to him again on top of that aliens keep testing him.
Most of the time they show Godzilla making his way into the city usually from the ocean. What makes this more effective is he’s ALREADY in the city and Titanosaurus never realizes this until Godzilla is not far from him ready to challenge him. Accompanied by the lightning with the clearing smoke and the haunting Ifukube theme making its return to this film, this will forever be Godzilla’s best entrance.
The full scene has Titanosaurus trashing the city, and then the camera pans over the city skyline, and a shape rising up in the distance. Cut back to Titanosaurus and a blast of atomic fire that slams into him, knocking him down. Then we cut to the scene at the start of this clip. It's an incredibly badass moment, especially for the Showa series.
Agreed. 'Terror of Mechagodzilla' took itself very seriously, while retaining some of the camp of the 70s Showa-era. A great film that was ahead of its time. It wasn't until a decade later that 'Return of Godzilla' could again make the King of the Monsters a truly powerful force. Still, this film has a more meaningful and emotional human story that was unsurpassed until 'Godzilla Minus One', 48 years later.
The first time I saw this it was in a documentary of sorts. It stuck with me from that day onwards. Though it missed something without the silent arrival and atomic breath surprise attack.
MV era aka the current era is the best era as of GxK imo and ima life long godzilla fan and i only say that becuase they fully going down the showa route its a modern day updated showa era
@@pancytryna9378 That's more good movies than any of the other series had. The Millennium series only has three good ones, and there aren't any Heisei movies I'd call "good." Reiwa only has Minus One.
In my list, first place is Godzilla 2014 because it showcased its size compared to its surroundings making it feel more intimidating and scarier, and also showed how heavy he is with the camera shaking and the slowness. And secondly, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters 2019. It was an amazing entrance for Godzilla in the ocean. His Intimadation display sure did work for me. The creepiness and silence while Godzilla was swimming closer and closer lighting up and then going dark is extremely terrifying. Third place is Godzilla Vs Kong 2021, Godzilla effortlessly defeating the army is just amazing. They really showed how strong Godzilla is when they found out their missles did absolutely nothing to the King Of The Monsters. Last place is Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters 2023 Season Finale Episode where Godzilla goes through the portal to fight off with Ion Dragon, in this scene Godzilla just looks more sharper and aggressive. The portal scene was just absolutely stunning.
This film, iirc, marks the 2nd film in the entire Showa era to actually have a rendition of 'Godzilla: Main Title' play (the only other was 1954). It's also the first where it plays as Godzilla's theme rather than that of the military. It's also the last film in the Showa era before the franchise went dormant until the Heisei reboot.
Have to remember Zilla fans were scoffed and laughed at in the 80's/90's. My dad loved the big green monster and his buddies gave him shit all the time for it.. Brother and I dealt with the same crap in school. Glad the Legendary series shine some light on these classic films. And now the series is winning Oscars! No longer seen as a silly monster film!
Not one comment that contains the awesome name, Akira Ifukube. Wow, just like American film composers, foreign film composers are truly underappreciated as well.
Indeed. But the "old man" has had some other great entrances too. For instance when the rich entrepreneur is bragging to the press about the great airport he is building will be the biggest in the world- and Godzilla suddenly rises up from the soil. Godzilla always puts us in our place and shows that, after all, man is but a puny thing, an ant that moves grains of sand and thinks he has moved a mountain. I have always liked the fact that Godzilla reminds us of our mortality- and what specs of dust we are.
Eh it’s a good entrance, Godzilla was built up very well in this movie. Though I don’t like how Godzilla is just standing there not doing anything for half a second
