If someone told me 6 months ago that'd I'd be listening to Taylor Swift & actually giving her a chance, I wouldn't have believed them. Probably would've thought they were crazy in fact, but I'm really glad I now have the ability to explore something even if I'm not a fan at first!

Cardigan - takes place 20 to 30 years in the future with Betty reflecting on the situation
August - Augustine's point of view after the summer fling was over (if you pay close attention to the lyrics, 'never mine' sounds like 'nevermind' and 'meet me behind the mall' sounds like 'meet me behind THEM all')
Betty - James's perspective after the summer fling and how he tried to find excuses for himself to get Betty back
Taylor said that in her mind Betty took him back, but that James was foolish.
I feel the need to point out that at 3:13 in Betty, James sings he is on her front porch. At 3:13 in Cardigan, Betty says she knew he would be back in her front porch light. In addition, at 2:47 in Betty, James says "she said James get in the car". At 2:47 in August, she says remember when I said Get in the car. Taylor is a master storyteller and the above are just a few examples of her literary genius. Have a Swift day.
Note that Cardigan is the only one from an adults perpective, shes reflecting on a yung love... and she tells us the story from the other characters in the moment of the events... and you can tell the diferences of maturity in the melody, words and percetive. That is what i like the most about these songs
If all the Taylor haters can’t recognize the beauty in her song writing or recognize the talent, they are clearly lying! She doesn’t have to be your favorite, but to act like she is trash, is SUS AF!!!!
According to Taylor Betty and James was together .cardigan was Betty when she was older looking back. August was the girl that James cheated with her name was Augustine .
This is a fantastic trilogy. She's a poetic lyrical genious. She paints a picture with her pen and puts it into music that you can visualize. Shes a master at her craft and is the best out there. ❤❤
Taylor's pen, and storytelling with the trilogy is truly beautiful. She's a goat. I've been a Swiftie since I was 19, and seeing her growth as an artist is amazing.. Thanks Flawd and Meaux for this awesome reaction!
A little trivia for ya, 'Betty' is actor Ryan Reynolds & his wife Blake Lively's favorite song, because Taylor uses all three of their daughters' names in it. Betty, Inez & James (they named her after Ryan's dad. LOL)
At the time of writing this song, Inez was about 2 years old, so of course "you can't believe a word she says, most times." LOL I love that little hidden wink at the baby.
Listening to Cardigan always breaks my heart in a soothing way, don't know how to explain the feeling after hearing that song

It's a fictional, teenage love triangle. Cardigan is Betty looking back on it. Betty is in the moment from James perspective and so is August, who is the other girl.

I am not familiar what songs you’ve done so far of hers, but I def would recommend My Tears Ricochet (which was written about Scott B who sold her albums - without her knowledge or her desire for him to)…. Another good one is no body, no crime…. Another good one is exile…

I wouldn't necessarily recommend Smallest Man Who Ever Lived to people new to Taylor. The 2 verses are kinda monotonous before she does a complete 180 at the bridge. While you might be curious where she's going with the story, I've seen a few reactors barely faking interest until the beat picks up. I personally like that song, but I'm a long time swiftie and can enjoy the complexity of the lyrics, and don't necessarily need to be bopping my head along with a song to enjoy it.
