In the Philippines, mixed Filipinos have been very much normalized (which is not a bad thing!) But how do foreigners perceive mixed people in their own countries? *Find out at the end of the video!* Follow our friends from South Korea, USA, Canada, China, Brazil, Italy, UK, Greece, Ukraine, and Ghana through their social media placed on the screen!
"In the Philippines, mixed Filipinos have been very much normalized." How is bringing up Vanessa Hudgens, Olivia Rodrigo, and Saweeti supposed to support that statement? These are all American celebrities, who were elevated into celebrities by AMERICANS, not Filipinos. None of these three lived in the Philippines and became celebrities due to Filipino fans. The same can be said of Nicole Scherzinger, Bruno Mars, Dave Batista, Enrique Iglesias, and a whole host of American celebrities of half-Filipino descent. These were all celebrities that became celebrities because of an American fanbase, not Filipinos. Unless you want to argue that Filipinos in the US (4.5% of the US population) somehow made Olivia Rodrigo and Vanessa Hudgens into celebrities, I don't think that part of the video supports the statement. If anything, it seems to prove the opposite of what you’re trying to prove: that no matter what country they’re from, half-Filipinos have a tendency to become celebrities, so it’s no surprise that half-Filipinos also become celebrities in the Philippines. A lot of people seem curious as to why Filipinos are so fond of half-white celebrities. Strangely, nobody seems to ask an equally legitimate question: why are Americans so obsessed with half-Filipino celebrities?
@@johs7200 I'm sorry Joh, but you seem to be missing the video's main goal. In fact. That isn't the video's thesis statement. It's the research question. And you're only looking at the 1st half of the research question. The sentence after that says "But how do foreigners perceive mixed people in their own countries?" which is the main and only question for this video as seen at the end. The reason we placed mixed Filipinos from the West in the video is simply because we are sure that these are people who they know, or are familiar with. This will then make it easier for them to connect the game to the video's the main (and only) question in the end asking how mixed people are percieved in their own country. Now back to why we prefaced that with "In the Philippines, mixed Filipinos have been very much normalized." It's simply to give them a comparison to start off with, and making sure that the comparioson's basis is from a perspective based on how Filipinos see mixed people today. Especially since this is a Filipino owned channel watched by 90+% Filipinos. It's because of this that we recieved insightful information at the end with them explaining how in South Korea, being mixed definately has its cons (but it has been changing in the past few years as mentioned), or in Brazil how multicultural and multiracial Brazilians actually are. All this whilst comparing it to the Philippines for our viewers to be able to easily understand their point of view. Hope this answers your question. :)

Right. I was like: I have Chinese and Japanese blood (from great grandparents) and am also (very little) Spanish and Arabic descent so I'm not Filipino anymore?
Heart is full filipino. She has chinese and spanish blood, yes but that is very common to a filipino. At sabi nya sobrang layo na ng chinese at spanish blood sakanya kahit na ongpauco yung apelyido nya. Natural filipino ka paring matatawag kahit may chinese or spanish descent ka pa. Even kathryn has chinese blood from her mom pero sobrang layo na.
The average Filipino is said to have 3 - 5% South European ( Mostly Spanish and Portuguese ) and 20 - 30% East Asian ( Mostly Chinese ) and 2% Native American blood. Heart's pure Filipino in a sense that she doesn't have a parent who's from a different race.

This actually opens up an interesting conversation: what are Filipino / Filipina features? Due to our country's history and varied relationships with other countries and cultures, it is quite diverse and hard to define.
For the reasons you cite, I think Filipino features are hard to confine rather than define. By "define", where any such conversation as you mention might necessarily begin, I mean identifying typical or distinctive characteristics of the average Filipino. Videos like this are fun, yet the subjects are all from the fringe of the spectrum. If the panel's task was rather to guess a person's nationality or ethnicity by guessing what Asian country they're from, I imagine the success rate with a random photographic sampling of every day Filipinos would be much higher than the celebrity are they/aren't they of the video. Might not be as much fun as looking at celebrities, but as far as interesting, I'd venture easily equally if not even more so. Depends on the conversation, I guess.
Malayo-Austranesian is like the best way to categorize our looks but still, there's a lot of influence we have like 3% European lots more from east asia probably
It's so varied even in families. I'm 6' tall pale skin with curly brown hair monolid eyes, everything opposite of what people think of Filipino. My little brother is 5'5" dark skin double eyelids, basically traditional idea of Filipino. My sister's look like white girls. Same parents. Born in the Philippines. If we all stand next to each other you would never guess we're blood related.
CORRECTION: Heart is just Fil-Chi and Vanessa’s mom (have you seen her???) is just FILIPINO. A lot of us claim to be part Chinese or Spanish and while it is true that we have FOREFATHERS (ninuno) who intermarried, it’s just a very small amount of our genetic make up that we can no longer claim it. You are part Chinese or Spanish only if it is at least 25% of your ethnicity, meaning, only if you have a parent or grandparent who is PURE.
I've seen lots of videos people guessing Filipino celebs if they are pure or mixed but it always the same celebs. We have so many celebrities here in the Philippines
Hey! people in the comment section, I think we have to refer to the lady, Madeline Mawusi not just "Black Girl". The amount of good vibes she's exuding is astronomical and we love a lady who knows how to hype ☺️❤️ We love you too.
There is no "pure" or "full" Filipino to begin with. All our ancestors were immigrants(aetas, malays, indos). Chinese immigrants because of market trade. West colonization and japan occupation. We're all mixed from the get-go.
@@lyttyl6347 Exactly!😂 I know that and if we take Heart's result as the basis, I'm just wondering, what's the point of having "full" in the options then. Lol
It’s very diverse since a lot of us Filipinos have mix races like Chinese, Spanish, Japanese which are the usual mix. My ancestors have these mixes haha so my skin is white but my features looks Chinese
Wow I really love this!! The amount of diversity in Filipino culture is something truly amazing, and as someone who is half-Filipina I really loved hearing the perspectives of all these people! They were all so nice and open-minded, and it made me really proud of where I come from! Also adding nationality and ethnicity was a really good touch! It really adds another layer of context that is pretty interesting given the common overlap of the two! I look forward to future videos! Maraming salamat po sa good vibes ng video na ito! 🤗
3:19 he’s actually wrong there’s not a lot of Spanish descendants in the Philippines less than 1% of the population has Spanish blood. 99% have no Spanish ancestry.
Filipinos are terribly beautiful. Others might envy that, but don't mess with them because they will not treat you any less. Filipinos are beautiful inside and out.
Envy?? I’m from South America a Spanish country. When I was dating a Filipino couple decades ago a Filipina got on the way and stole him from me even that I was pregnant. Anyway, I’m happily married to an American now but that woman is now envy of my son because he looks more handsome than her boys. When they go to family gatherings everyone says how handsome my son is and she hates it.
I'm a mix of filipino, some chinese and spanish. I thought I looked like a typical filipina but I get mistaken as a foreigner when i don't talk. I was struggling with identity for a long time and i love the black woman's statement you made my day :)
Take note of this: We Filipinos have three looks. Moreno/Morena (Pure Austronesians and/or or part Latino) Mestizo/Mestiza (Part Westerners like Europeans other Whites. With Caucasian features) Chinito/Chinita (Part East Asian like Chinese, Japansese etc)
Thats why our Country name Philippines is also mestizo..by the way I Love the Beauty of Ukranian and Russians..but not the war between them lets make in peace.
Filipinos are not Spanish nor foreign. The real reason why there are so many Half Filipino half Foreign celebrities listed in this video is because the entertainment industry in the Philippines adore and recruit only the ones who are half Filipino since the entertainment industry perceives people who have foreign blood more beautiful. That's why I genuinely disagree with the mindset of the entertainment industry in the Philippines about Beauty standards. Also, another reason on why Filipinos aren't foreign is because of their facial features. Just by looking at Filipinos facial features such as having darker melanin, having flat noses and other Austronesian traits makes you come into this conclusion immediately that Filipinos are Southeast Asian and not Spanish! And why do Filipinos always claim any other ethnicity apart from being Filipino? Are you guys just ashamed of the fact that you guys are pure blood Filipinos?
I think its best for them to show the girl’s light makeup look or something thats not heavy makeup so they can distinguish the structures more clearly and accurately because alot of the pics shown in here are their pictures wearing heavy makeup or some of their studio photoshoot pictures
Btw spanish descents in the philippines are actually minorities. There’s a lot of misconceptions about that. Btw i’m also filipino but if I didn’t know already, i also wouldn’t know what to choose. I’d choose part too so i could only be half wrong lmao
Liza Soberano is the most beautiful girl in the world way back in 2017,3rd in 2018,9 in 2019,and 14 in 2020....SHE IS TITLE HOLDER AND HALL OF FAMER! Can't wait to see her rank this year (2021)
The boy with the red hoodie be saying "asian feauture". Bruh, the major population of the Philippines does not have that "stereotypical asian feature". Filipinos have diverse faces and are far from the standards of "asian neauty".
Me being part of the Philippines: My parents are 10% native Filipino, 6% Japanese ancestor, 4% Indonesian ( Mixed race are so much normalized in the Philippines that's why Philippines is a diverse country not homogenous country) Sorry my english is bad...
The Brazilian dude said it right. Filipinos come in different shapes and colors. Even the term "Filipino" originally means a pure-blooded Spanish born in The Philippines hence it's not a an ethnicity but a nationality. That's until the revolution where ut was agreed that the term "Filipino" will cover various ethnicities including: Filipinos (Spanish born in The PH); Indios (Natives, also the stereotypical Filos); Negritos/Aetas (Native aboriginals); Sangley (Chinese in The PH); Mestizo de España (Indio/Spanish mix); Mestizo de Sangley (Sangley/Spanish mix); and Tornátras (Indio/Sangley/Spanish mix). In short Filipinos may look like someone from literally European white af to typical brown austronesians, to east asian-looking, and to the more racially ambiguous Tornátras like José Rizal (Spanish/Indio/Sangley mix).
I am Half Japanese and half filipino, though that I'm a part filipino, but if i dont consider myself having a japanese blood and just a filipino, I can say that I have a spanish and chinese ncestors, that really dont matter anymore, because its a very long time ago na, pero kung lalaabs ako sa vid nabyan, at simabing part ako dahil sa ang ethnicity ko ay spanish at chinese, well that makes sense but still no.
Spanish po nanay ni kathryn?
Then she's not pure pinoy haha there is obviously 3 percent

Filipinos are crazy for being mixed… they send mixed queens to look like Latinas and can win Miss Universe. That’s why

That korean dude keeps saying "yes" and staring at the girl like he's lovestruck
The Black woman is the most beautiful soul I get to see today :)

"Gabbi you go shiny in that full Filipino beauty."
I love Gabby.
The girl from Ghana has a calming voice
CORRECTION: Heart is just Fil-Chi and Vanessa’s mom (have you seen her???) is just FILIPINO. A lot of us claim to be part Chinese or Spanish and while it is true that we have FOREFATHERS (ninuno) who intermarried, it’s just a very small amount of our genetic make up that we can no longer claim it. You are part Chinese or Spanish only if it is at least 25% of your ethnicity, meaning, only if you have a parent or grandparent who is PURE.
Can we agree that ylona,Gabbi,Kath is the best representation of filipina beauty
Heart is full Filipino. If she's part, then most filipinos are"part".
There is no "pure" or "full" Filipino to begin with. All our ancestors were immigrants(aetas, malays, indos). Chinese immigrants because of market trade. West colonization and japan occupation. We're all mixed from the get-go.
Exactly haha we are all mix here
@@lyttyl6347 Exactly!😂 I know that and if we take Heart's result as the basis, I'm just wondering, what's the point of having "full" in the options then. Lol
@@hannahjanegablines8706 I agree
Well, it's pretty much given that most Filipinos are not pure. Colonization made our ethnicity more diverse
It’s very diverse since a lot of us Filipinos have mix races like Chinese, Spanish, Japanese which are the usual mix. My ancestors have these mixes haha so my skin is white but my features looks Chinese
Yess my dad is Filipino/ Chinese! Is very normal a filipino with Chinese ancestry lol
So proud of our Filipino roots a combination of every part of the world.
Brazil is like that lol
I laughed so hard when it's Vanessa's turn. They sang HSM songs 😂
I just want to say "Sana all" to Ellgi and Mogi huhu
Wow I really love this!! The amount of diversity in Filipino culture is something truly amazing, and as someone who is half-Filipina I really loved hearing the perspectives of all these people! They were all so nice and open-minded, and it made me really proud of where I come from! Also adding nationality and ethnicity was a really good touch! It really adds another layer of context that is pretty interesting given the common overlap of the two! I look forward to future videos! Maraming salamat po sa good vibes ng video na ito! 🤗
Ylona screams FILIPINA BEAUTY my god I think she's one of the beautiful representations of Filipina Beauty.

Take note of this: We Filipinos have three looks.
Moreno/Morena (Pure Austronesians and/or or part Latino)
Mestizo/Mestiza (Part Westerners like Europeans other Whites. With Caucasian features)
Chinito/Chinita (Part East Asian like Chinese, Japansese etc)
@@DrNotDr💯💯
The white look is the very smallest out of all the looks. Most are chinito and dark/morena. Less than 3% are mestizo

I am a full Filipino with that na po.
