This is great stuff. Takes me back to my mid teens. Hendrix was massively controversial. You either loved him or hated him. You either 'dug it' or you didn't. That was it. We had so many arguments about him but the fact is, if you have ears for Hendrix, you hear him and it gets you forever. He was right there, not just on a musical but also the cultural dividing line that signified the whole '60's experience. Up there with Dylan and the Beatles in setting the scene. What a time it was...and we knew it.
Well said my friend! Clearly, we are in the 'dug it' camp. Your characterization is on point. Next episode will be available early in the new year, and regularly thereafter. Stay tuned, and best wishes!
Funny, I was in the 11th grade, at this time, and had still not heard of The Jimi Hendrix Experience... they didn't start playing his music on the radio (Los Angeles) until after the Monterey Pop Festival... So, in July 1967 they mostly played Purple Haze and Foxey Lady on the AM stations... and a few times I heard the first couple of minutes of Third Stone From The Sun (Which I never heard his name mentioned) and around October of 1967 (The only time I ever heard it on the radio during his lifetime) they played I Don't Live Today. My life has never been the same since. I'm still obsessing on Jimi Hendrix. I'm digging it, Bro!!!
Wow, that is totally awesome! To have heard Jimi's music at that time must have been extraordinary. I first heard Purple Haze, well after Jimi died, probably '77 or '78. And, the rest is history. Thank you so much for sharing that. Cheers
as a oldin.. in my 99 and one and a half light year, it's what you think Jimi says not oldin folk, he who adapts the quickest is always the smartest, and fear anger and hate is by far your worse enemy, good luck @@yancyjenkinssr1824
You're right. Basically four years of non-stop, continuous touring, and recording in between, and partying pretty much every night! A very, very physically demanding feat. Cheers!
Meticulous, fascinating and without peer - as always. Thank you so very much for your efforts, and especially for this amazing account of Jimi's career.
Al Stewart, (Year of the cat fame) did a song on one of his earlier albums called "Don't Even Know Me." I think it was the title. About a fan who helps him out in his early struggling days but thinks twice about it. "Alright I took you to the Hendrix concert on the 7th day of May. And thru the Summer of 1967 we were part of the seeds of change. But you don't even know me..." So, I had to look up, upon remembering this song if Jimi actually did have a concert on that day in England and there it is...the Saville on the 7th day of May 1967.
Because it IS Jimi’s story it’s riveting and bound to capture eyes and ears… but….interesting how, after all this time that, Noel Redding’s recollections in his diaries form the basis of much of what this auto generated voice is saying… I knew Noel when he lived in Clonakilty… and I can hear his voice somewhere out there in the ether ruefully chuckling and expressing a humorous “I’ll never get paid for this either, mate!”
Hank, thankyou for sharing that! I have total respect for Noel and reckon he tends to get a bad rap these days. His memoirs are an honest and insightful read, he's the type of guy I'd loved to share a few pints with. Cheers.
@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW Hopefully, Noel has learned by now, dat it wuz all a ruse...... A game of Monopoly/Life, brought 2 him, by sum cheating, nternational SINtral bankerz.
I am a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix. I love this channel and IMHO, this is the best video you have done to date! There so many great photos and stories I have never seen or heard before. This was the time when Jimi was exploding on the scene. Thank you for creating this channel!
Hi John, thankyou very much. You're right, a lot more time was spent on the visual production. All of the pictures acurrately match the period, and I reckon it adds something more. Appreciite your positive feedback! Cheers
Yeah I was waiting for you to put another episode up man I absolutely love the way you go into depth and detail about the Jimi Hendrix experience excellent at its finest
I've read room full of mirrors .Jimi s book by Charles who's done (heavier Then Heaven -Kurt Cobain )but this is extra xtra good ,the wooden boarded floor stage looks like where The doors played a year later where Jim is laying on the floor or maybe that was Frankfurt.
The first time I ever saw Jimi was on TV on "Top of the Pops" in 1967 when I was 12 - I was mainly amazed by his appearance because I had never seen a black guy with long hair before. :)
20:52 Karlstad may20. I was there, and he played only one show (not two). The support act was two trained sealions ( not seals!). His first number was a rawing version of Killing Floor, but the electric fuses blow after one minute. While the arranger was 20:5220:5220:52 changing fuses no amps were working so Mitch had to keep the tempo with a long drumsolo! I had no chance to take photos then, and the 20:52 famous one on Jimi on the floor was by newspaper photographer Nils Ahlmgren. /Bengt Skogberg, Karlstad 🎸
Where in the smoke filled riot the whole room turned tense and quiet as Jimi stood up ever inch a star and with all eyes on him The Great Minstrel Pilgrim touched the strings of his Burning Guitar/The Scene/Winter 1969 NY X IAS Last Train to Crossroads
👍👍 with all this great history of jimi it's a wonder they haven't come out with a decent movie about him and his career the only one I've seen and know of was very disappointing
True, the best documentary to my knowledge is: Jimi Hendrix (1973 documentary). I'll put the link in the community tab. As for movies, the only one made: 'Jimi: All is by My Side', which isn't worth the time of day, factually incorrct and discredited by those who knew Hendrix. Cheers
@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW The "South Bank Show" documentary, aired on Channel 4 in the UK in 1990 (if memory serves me correctly), is also pretty good. Sadly, it neglects the period after the dissolution of the original Experience, with Woodstock, the Band of Gypsys and the new Experience featuring Billy and Mitch effectively being glossed over. Despite that, it features some excellent interviews with Mitch, Noel, Chas, Kit and others, in addition to some great footage taken by Noel in the US.
@@cougar2013 yeah. That's the way it was done back then; if you wanted the gold ring, you had to work your ass off for it! And getting people's eyes on Jimi was the way to do it! He was a storm of charisma on stage! His music is his legacy; his performances made him a legend!
Its crazy how much Hendrix used that red Stratocaster with the maple neck, soon to be the Saville Theatre painted guitar. When I think of Hendrix at this time period its always with a rosewood fretboard Strat.
Good point. At that time, , judging by photographs it was the rosewood fretboard Strat. If this is of interest to you, happy to provide more details. Jimi went through guitars like no tomorrow. However he had favourites, destroyed many, and had more than a few stolen. These days, an authenticated Hendrix is worth big money. Thanks for your comment! Cheers
@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW I wonder where those stolen guitars are now. I bet most are lost to time. Also I think it'd be interesting to have a total of what the JHE was making each month. Crazy they were pulling in lots of money, and didn't have any money in their possession. It's cool you know so much about Jimi's life and Jimi's guitars! Great episode as usual!
A few episodes back where you were listing the pay night after night, I wanted to ask who was getting the money. Thanks for clearing that up in this episode. Thank you and The Team for these videos.
I’m sure I’ve read multiple times that The Star Palace in Kiel was Noel’s worst memory of Jimi as Hendrix had taken something backstage and he couldn’t stop laughing and had trouble tuning his guitar so Noel had to do it as well as explaining that Jimi was not feeling great
I was patiently waiting for another video! I checked how long it had been yesterday! Lol Wish it was twice a week, but I will take whatever you're giving! My favorite channel at the moment btw!
Thankyou very much! Truthfully, this episode has taken the longest, and hopefully that's evident. The earlier ones were pumped out fairly quickly by cutting corners. Now, having a attracted an audience, the focus will be better quality product which means more time. Rest assured, if not every week, it will be every other week. Best wishes!
Totally agree, have searched high and low, but nothing. Remember, most people didn't walk around with cameras, so most of what we have was associated with the press and media of the day, and a few professionals. Cheers!

Perhaps, remember, Jimi was the focus, Noel and Mitch were after-thoughts.
