I’m new to quilting and am so excited to have stumbled across your channel. Thank you SO much for sharing this review. It was everything I needed to know to make my decision.
My daughter gifted me my Oliso mini and I have loved it. It has been very useful when pressing the face masks and small items I sew. If I can be honest, there are two things that could improve, if possible. The handle can get uncomfortably hot and the iron sometimes spits water in addition to steam. For that reason, I do not always use water in the iron. Besides these two issues, I do enjoy the iron for my small projects.
This is the first time I've ever heard of a smart iron (not surprised). Love the lift feature. I would like to see you iron a heavy, well creased linen fabric if that's possible please. I have heavy linen curtains that I can't seem to iron out all those stubborn creases you get with linen fabric. Hope to watch it in the next one ❤
I have always wanted to get OLISO however the full size is bit on the high end cost for me. I used ROWENTA for years but they started to leak and is kinda annoying, I also got other smaller irons but just didn't like them. when I saw the OLISO MINI I was immediately in love. thanks for the review. helps a lot. I am starting to make more smaller projects and I think the OLISO MINI will come in very handy !!
I have an Oliso ProSmart that I got about six years ago. It's a wonderful, well made iron that really works well. Definitely a match for Rowenta Steamforce. I use it while sewing and also for pressing my shirts. I'm a professional tailor.
Thanks for the review of the Oliso irons. I'm embarrassed to say that I desperately needed the mini for small projects but have yet to take it out of the box. Love seeing the bloopers at the end. Have been noticing your pink lamp. I like that too!
The. ProStart is brilliant. Have had it for a while and although it’s a bit pricy it’s worth every penny. My previous iron fell off the ironing board and singed the carpet but this iron doesn’t have to stand upright and is much safer. Would def recommend.
Thanks for another great video. I had to stop my quilting as my hands because arthritic. I hope to go back soon. Also, I loved the paddle boarding. How peaceful!!!
Thank you so much for this! I had the large one and I loved it! Just after a year it stopped working but I think there was a power surge. I haven't used my mini yet.
My Pro lasted under 4 months, then started to leak. I purchased directly from Oliso. I contacted Oliso...and with COVID, the company 'claimed' it would be July before they would have it in stock to replace. So far (now August 21) and I still have not seen a replacement. That said...when I used it, I LOVED it.
Oh I'm so sorry! I think Fat Quarter Shop mentioned that if she left water in her pro and left it sitting up on it's hind end it leaked on her as well. I'm not sure if that's what caused it, but I've never left mine standing up like that so I've never had any issues.
@@erica_arndt I never left my iron standing upright...I''m like you in that I bought it for NOT having to sit it up. I never kept much water in it. Just frustrating because I REALLY liked it!!
I bought my first olio 5 years ago, didn’t heat very well! My quilt shop replaced with a new one and that never heated well when dry! It was ok with steam and I emptied the water every day when I finished using it, but still occasionally spews brown dirty water on my beautiful blocks. So I am done with this brand. I can’t believe I got two lemons! Since then many of my quilting friends have told me they were not impressed with oliso irons at all.
Gosh, I'm so sorry! I haven't had any issues with either of these so far. I've had them for over a year now I think. Maybe they've been improved since then?
Hello Erica. I enjoy all of your videos. I’ve made a couple of bags you have demonstrated. Still enjoying them. I have the gold oliso iron and the mini pink one. I love both of them. Thank you for all of your videos.
I have had the larger Oliso in the pink and now the higher voltage yellow. My pink one started leaking water after about 2 1/2 to 3 years. I love these for the fact that they don’t hurt your hand and wrist by turning it on end after each ironed piece. I do a lot of small pieced quilting so I think maybe the mini would be great. I’ve purchased 3 mini iron and each have disappointed results. I don’t like to have to go over the piece so many times just to get the wrinkles out.
I have long wanted to get an Oliso but have always held back because of all the reports about malfunctions and the short life span. I don’t suffer from any wrist pain, so the lift isn’t strictly necessary for me-I just think it’s cool. 😎 I know some people give it great reviews but the number of complaints gave me pause so I got a Rowenta instead. For a mini iron I’m currently using an ancient Black and Decker travel iron that I bought back in the late 80s or early 90s. Believe it or not it gets as hot as the dickens, so I can’t justify replacing it just yet. 😇
I’ve had the pro for a few months and I love it so far! I had it leak once in the beginning because I didn’t know to turn the steam off at lower heat settings. Newbie mistake! I’ve been thinking about getting the mini, too.
Thank you for the review! I have the mini oliso that I purchased for a retreat. I love mine although I would love to purchase the Oliso ProSmart too. I’ve only been quilting a couple of years and I’ve had to replace 3 or 4 irons already. 😩 So hopefully it will be awhile before I need another. Thanks again!! I have been loving all of your videos!!😍
Thanks for the very informative review Erica. Very nice you were given these for free. Other than those neat little pop out feet, after watching how this expensive iron works, I'll stick with my $20 dollar Hamilton Beach Auto Shut off non-stick plate, surge of steam and sprayer, retractable cord iron. It has everything I want in an iron. I didn't expect much for the price, but I've been happy with it for years now. I'm not sure of the brand my mini is, but it was a twelve something at Walmart. I've only had it a few months, but it works great, with or without steam. I should add that we have well water. Though it's highly filtered, I still use only our reverse osmosis drinking water in my irons. Love the bloopers! Great sense of humor, you have. Love your channel!
I have both in yellow because my sewing room walls are yellow. I bought my Pro on a Black Friday sale at Joann’s for 40% off a couple years ago. I just got the mini this year. I love the Pro, would definitely buy it again.
Yey!! I’ve been looking into the mini for pressing right next to my machine, but I can’t get my hands on it. I wondered if it would just be better to go with the bigger one. Thanks for the review!
I love my Oliso pink iron. It’s been going strong for several years! I got it on sale, so I didn’t pay quite as high a price for it. I don’t have the mini version, but would love to get it some day.
I purchased both of these sizes and I sold the small one and returned the large one. The small one just didn't work for me and was difficult to handle / iron with. I used the large one for about 2 months and just sent it back to Oliso. Please note they gave me no issues with the return. It is a great iron but, my issue was with the VERY LONG CORD. With my limited space in my sewing room and where I have to plug in it can be a pain. And because there is no "actual" shut off I have to unplug it all the time. If you don't then your red light is on all the time. In addition, when I did iron with it sometimes my fabric would roll up onto the ironing board this was because the cord would catch it. Again, a great iron for a great price. I just wish that it was cordless or maybe if it had a retractable cord that would be awesome. Until then I wouldn't buy another one. And yes it is very heavy!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review on the Oliso irons Erica! I have been wanting to purchase the pro smart but wasn't sure about it. So glad to hear that it is such a fantastic iron! Can't wait to order one!
i only have the mini that I purchased about 8 months ago. It works well, but I don't like the handle (would rather have the hole to put my fingers around) and it bugs me that it doesn't sit on the end. The silicone mat gets really hot, but it seems to handle it fine. I'm not trying to be a downer, it's just my honest opinion. The actual iron works great!
Question - are you pressing on your cutting mat with just a little cotton fabric over it or is there a wool mat under the blue fabric? I wasn’t sure if just the cotton between the iron and mat would not damage the cutting mat? That would be nice to be able to press on a larger area like that :)
Thank you for your videos! I did want to ask if they are both good for open seams and not just one-sided seams? I have a difficult time with my current mini iron on the open seams for my quilts.
I have the mini and I love it. It gets super hot and I have stopped using steam because I just don't think I need it plus I kept pouring hot water on myself because I forgot and held it up when grabbing another piece to press. I have to turn it down or off between pressing and sewing because it has scorched my wool pressing mat.
Hi Erica I’ve had the pink pro smart for about 5 years now. I love the iron but am disappointed that the pink has discolored. The top section has turned an odd lighter (sick!) pink. The bottom is the same (I think) but the difference in the color makes the iron look odd. Has anyone ever mentioned this? Just wished it looked like it did originally. I never had it near sunlight. Thank you Sue Lambrix
That happened to my pink iron also. The top area turned a lighter pink after several years of use. I convinced myself that they were making the newer ones in a darker pink color, but seeing your post has restored my earlier opinion that mine has simply discolored on top.
Question. The temp button on the iron is loose and can spin continually. It doesn’t seem to start rotating from first dot to the third and the. Continues to spin if I continue to turn it. Seems strange. The button is wobbly too. Is that normal for this oliso mini iron??
Cute how you call the mini "he" Is the bigger one the Mom? Lol You did a great video...as usual. Very informative. Think I would go with the Mom....(when I can afford it). Thank you! Not sure where you find all the time to cover all you do...
I have the mini and nice but holding it does get pretty warm so I have to shift my hold. Also listen to when you push spray and hear it. Mine is new and don’t hear steam come out.
i have the pink large one. my first one started going up and down on its own. the company replaced it and so far so good. i want the mini but i saw a review that the mini gets so hot it almost burns your hand. have you experienced that?
Erica, do you still use your cordless Panasonic iron? I purchased one with the ceramic plate recently and I love it. At the time I couldn’t get my hands on an oliso and desperately needed an iron after my kids shoved a crayon in my 12 year old rowenta😭
Hi, no I don't use it anymore. It was about 1.5 years old and it was great at first, but now it doesn't get as hot. It's almost like it doesn't charge as well as when it was new? But I did love it while I had it!
Gosh, I'm not sure, I would say make sure your steam knob is turned on, then lift up your iron a bit and press the steam button. If you're still having troubles, I would contact Oliso.
I gave up on Rownta’s which are great until they start to leak which eventually they ALL do. After using an Olisio at a retreat, I purchased the large pink iron. I love this iron but recently it is not getting as hot as it did. It’s not even 3 yrs. old, very disappointing considering how expensive it was.
Yikes! I haven't had mine leak. Maybe empty out the water between projects so it's not just sitting in your iron? But I leave water in mine all the time LOL! If it's still leaking I would contact Oliso and see if they will warranty it. That or you can use a spray bottle instead, it keeps your iron cleaner and no water leaks!
I love my pink Prosmart Oliso. I've used it for over 3 years now and its still going strong. Haven't tried the mini because I have a lot of arthritis in my hands and it seems like it would not be comfortable to use
Bought the mini last fall, haven't used it much until this week. I had to wait 3 months for them to be restocked. It doesn't steam well and I don't hear that burst of steam. I will use it onde more and if this continues I will contact the manufacturer.
I have an Oliso (not the pro) I really do like it, but unfortunately the button to manually use steam has stopped working - disappointing especially given the cost !
Frustrated! Would love this iron (larger one) and you cannot get them due to COVID I'm sure. Noone has them. It's showing March, 2021 availability limited. I'm not pre-paying when you don't know when these will be in stock again, (overseas shipping).
I’ve watched your video on both irons. I purchased the mini and have tried using the steam. Apparently I’m not using the correct setting, because mine does not put out any steam. Hopefully you can enlighten me on a correct setting. Thank you
I am disappointed that it seems like every utube personality has the pink versions. I have yellow but I refuse to buy the mini in yellow. I am unable to get the pink. Why do they have trouble keeping the pink in stock?
I have both! I love the large one (although my faceplate is dirty and i can’t seem to get it clean). I purchased the mini version because I mistakenly thought that it would work the same way as the large one but no. It does not which was extremely disappointing. I do take the mini to retreats or classes and it does get super hot. In fact, even with that little covering it has, I have to put another little silicone pad under both because it get’s so hot and it does not stand up.
@@erica_arndt It’s a shame that people who ask you questions can’t even be bothered to thank you for your response. I will go ahead and watch your cleaning ironing video
I loved my Oliso iron. However, once a week I would go my church to quilt with our group. Needless to say, we did not have these wonderful iron. So, just like at home I laid my iron down and walked away. Fortunately someone else walked up pretty quickly and was able to pick it up before it caught the ironing board on fire. It was smoking, and it had a big, black, iron-shaped scorched mark. I paid to have the ironing surface redone. Needless to say, I purchased a different iron for my home so I could get used to setting it up like the ones at the church. I loved it so much that I gave it to my mom. She irons her clothes every week. She loves it because she doesn't have to put water in it which makes it lighter and not putting it up took the pain out of her wrist. I have to say, during COVID, I have thought about stealing it back on non-ironjng days because nothing compares to it for flattening seams, getting the wrinkles out of large yardage and ironing binding.
Oh no! Yes it does take some time to get used to, and you definitely want to be careful if you go back to a traditional iron that needs to be set up on end!

Oh no, I'm so sorry! Mine doesn't leak, but also a tip for any iron: don't leave water in it. When you're done drain the iron so the water doesn't set in there. That will prevent leakage and also that brown icky stuff that comes out as well.
Found this brand to be all hype. You're lucky if yours lasted more than a year, the mechanics on mine went out in about 3 months and the company wouldn't replace it "GARBAGE" My shark iron did 10 times the job the oliso did for half the money.
2kidsinutah Glad I didn’t waste my money on the mini, would rather spend money on cute fabric. I got a reliable mini travel iron to use on my wool mat next to my sewing machine and it’s perfect. It was 17 bucks on Amazon.
@@alicekelly4975 I looked them up on Amazon and thought though they look interesting enough to check into, I'm quite happy with both my full size and mini irons. My mini works great and I only paid $12 something at our local Walmart! I'll only get out my full size when doing window treatments.
@@OrganizeCreateDecorate They're normally AU$180-250 in Australia. I like them so such I bought 4 at various times when they were on special for AU$99 to put away in case they every stopped making them. The other two (one pink, one yellow) are in daily use for quilting and garment-sewing.

Do you think the pro smart is too heavy?
No, I like the weight, I don’t feel like I need to use steam.
My olio iron leaks water and has damaged my quilt block. How do I stop this water leakage?
I don't think you mentioned that the large one stays on for 30 minutes and the small one does not have a auto shut off
I love my pink Prosmart Oliso. I've used it for over 3 years now and its still going strong. Haven't tried the mini because I have a lot of arthritis in my hands and it seems like it would not be comfortable to use
I love my Oliso ProSmart, but recently it doesn’t turn off sometimes, so I have to make sure I unplug it when I’m done. 🙁
I've had my Oliso iron, the large one for 5 years and never had a problem. I feel that if there are problems, you're not doing it right.
Bought the mini last fall, haven't used it much until this week. I had to wait 3 months for them to be restocked. It doesn't steam well and I don't hear that burst of steam. I will use it onde more and if this continues I will contact the manufacturer.
Wow......just thought about irons and this pops up
So did I, youtube is psychic 😂
I have been trying to buy one for 6 months and there are none anywhere! :-(
Oliso Pro, I love mine.
Oliso, sorry about the spelling.
Just got the mini and will be returning. For someone with small hands, it's really uncomfortable to handle.
The mini is currently not available on Amazon
You may be able to get it from oliso.com
Creative notions quilt store on line has it..
I have an Oliso (not the pro) I really do like it, but unfortunately the button to manually use steam has stopped working - disappointing especially given the cost !
Oh so sorry, so far mine has been great!
Where to buy mimi pink iron
www.oliso.com has them on pre-order now! I'd also check Amazon as well, I know they sell out quickly though.
i love these only problem the price
I want a pro so bad. Only my iron seems to be working forever. I don't live near my SIL so it doesn't die after she visits a few times. LOL 😆
Thank you
Are you using regular tap water? If it's not working you may need to contact Oliso to see if they can fix it, it should be under warranty.
@@erica_arndt I used distilled water. I think you are correct. I’ll have to contact them. It doesn’t work
I am disappointed that it seems like every utube personality has the pink versions. I have yellow but I refuse to buy the mini in yellow. I am unable to get the pink. Why do they have trouble keeping the pink in stock?
You may be able to get them on oliso.com I think pink I just a popular color! But I like the yellow too :)
Thank you, I tried that it doesn’t come until October 31. At least they have a date now.
My Oliso spewed brown water so I had to stop using the steam feature. I was disappointed.
Oh no! Maybe don't leave the water sitting in your iron between uses?
I have both! I love the large one (although my faceplate is dirty and i can’t seem to get it clean). I purchased the mini version because I mistakenly thought that it would work the same way as the large one but no. It does not which was extremely disappointing. I do take the mini to retreats or classes and it does get super hot. In fact, even with that little covering it has, I have to put another little silicone pad under both because it get’s so hot and it does not stand up.
Here is my video on cleaning your iron: ua-cam.com/video/rQr7nr_j6Fs/v-deo.html
Hope it helps!
Q
I would assume the mini could do it all..
Podría traducir al castellano gracias ,re lindo todo !!!
Patricia, ella no habla español. Trata de buscar un vídeo de How to turn close captions in other languages. Quizás eso te ayude a ver las letras abajo en español. 😊
Oprima los tres botones un el rincon superior y elegir “captions”, luego oprima el idioma.
My mini oliso continually leaked. Returned
Oh no, I'm so sorry! Mine doesn't leak, but also a tip for any iron: don't leave water in it. When you're done drain the iron so the water doesn't set in there. That will prevent leakage and also that brown icky stuff that comes out as well.
The mini is unavailable on Amazon but there are a couple of other places. Tfs
You may be able to get them on oliso.com
Found this brand to be all hype. You're lucky if yours lasted more than a year, the mechanics on mine went out in about 3 months and the company wouldn't replace it "GARBAGE"
My shark iron did 10 times the job the oliso did for half the money.
I have 6 of them, the oldest I have had for 5 years and its still going strong.
@@RonsonDalby I'm curious why you need six irons?
@@OrganizeCreateDecorate They're normally AU$180-250 in Australia. I like them so such I bought 4 at various times when they were on special for AU$99 to put away in case they every stopped making them. The other two (one pink, one yellow) are in daily use for quilting and garment-sewing.
The only thing I have against the iron is that it's hard to completely empty other then that it's a great iron.
I don't bother emptying mine anymore and hasn't caused any problems. I follow the manual and only use tap water not distilled water.
I use filtered water as I have extra hard water.
They look nice, but are never available.
Help. See my first comment.
Can you use tap water? or do you need to use distilled water?
Oliso recommends using tap water
