The Earl and Countess of Sandwich are such a joy, I just love them so much! I could listen to them day after day for hours and hours. Please tell them thank you so much for sharing their knowledge with us. Listening to them is my favorite way to wind down after a long day!
Julie, your in-laws are absolutely blowing my mind. I realize that history is part of their day to day life, but their recollection of dates, names, events is absolutely amazing. I have only discovered your channels recently, and am thoroughly enjoying everything about Mapperton and the history of the family.
The Countess crawling on the roof. OMG I love them even more. I love this commentary from both the Countess and the Earl, the descriptions of the architecture and ceiling. Just great!
Luke's parents are an absolute treasure! I won't try to use their titles because I will probably make a mistake. You can feel the love and respect they have for each other and the love of Mapperton. They are such a wealth of knowledge between them both. I feel so much better that they are leaving all of this information on film for us to enjoy and for future generations. Best wishes from California.
The Earl and Countess are fabulous.I thoroughly enjoy hearing the history of the family. The book in the library are beautiful. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video! Love from Vermont
To the Countess and Earl, recording your knowledge will preserve your stories and wisdom for all the future generations. I can't think of a better gift!
So nice to see the portrait of Lady Jemima, who Pepys had such great love and respect for. I just enjoyed reading Pepys so much, as I did at the beginning of this pandemic. Immersed in his life and the times, it was a wonderful read. I was truly saddened to reach the end of his diary. I know he was worried about his eyes, but I selfishly wish he would have kept going longer.
This is my second time watching this. I have learned so much and enjoyed it completely. The Earl and Countess of Sandwich are so charming. I absolutely love them. I live in the USA and have some furniture handed down 4 generations from the 1860s. I understand completely about keeping up the furniture and books. We live in the Mojave desert and the dry air is just destroying the inlay tables from Italy and has warped the scroll top ladies writing desk that has a lot of scrollwork of different woods on it that they are splitting apart. I absolutely love your collections.
I too needed to watch again to truly take in so much of the history and wanted to have it correct. They did a lovely job talking about it ll and took their time. Just lovely to have them do this!
The cost of paper conservation is astronomical. It's very hard to get a budget for it when competing with other more 'mission critical' projects, such as make safe of a building. But you can do basics like gentle dusting, vacuuming, and dressing the leather. Under professional direction of course. Climate control helps a lot too.
You are very lucky to have the gorgeous painted portraits that you do, of ancestors. I have photographs of all of my Great Grandparents abut only one of my Great Great Grandparents has a photo that I know of. I do not have any painted portraits, but only photos. Thank you for sharing more about the home and treasured furnishings.
What a wonderful video! So much history. We do not have this kind of history in the States, let alone from the small town in Texas I,m from. Thank you for sharing this! ❤️
Hearing the Countess tell the story of crawling under the eves to search out a water leak was such a surprise! She is so dignified. My mental picture of that just makes me laugh.
I just watched Nestors most recent video! And I must say well done! I couldn't leave a comment there so I'm leaving it here! I know you'll find it! He's has a grand future as a naturalist that's what we call it in the U.S. very smart young man he has a bright future ahead!
These are great & so informative, like having an archived oral history. Might consider turning on the transcript feature where can toggle the timestamps and then save a version of the text.
I am so enjoying the tour I am from Wisconsin originally from Illinois.. My husband and I live in and trying to restore a Manor house from 1853 .So I am also watching for ideas true to the time.Thank you for sharing.
Nice tour. Watching from Northern Ontario, Canada where it was 32C today. I hope that Mapperton is soon back to normal, and that you keep doing these videos still. :)
Just love seeing the Earl and Countess of Sandwich! Thank you for the tour/introductions of family history! So wonderful to be able to share with you and your family! Thank you so much for taking this tie out of your lives to spend time helping us know more about your history and family and getting to know you so much better.
I love the Earl's presentation always! I love him reading from Pepy's. And I love this story and the picture of the King's procession into London with that high crown hat and black hair. It couldn't be anyone else but the Merry Monarch, or Old Rowley or any of his other fabulous nicknames. I loved the whole story with Buckingham, and Mary Fairfax and THAT whole thing with the Countess of Shrewsbury, the duel. Finally Charles II had it with the Duke. I love British history and keep the videos coming with the Earl and Countess.
Fascinating review of the Civil War and Restoration through primary source documents. Somehow I did not know of Samuel Pepys involvement. Than you for sharing this.
So interesting! It was nice to get some more insight into the characters in Pepys diary. I loved seeing the caricature. My 5x Great Grandfather was a publisher in London at that time, he was depicted by the same caricaturists, who he also employed.
What a contrast to Harry and Meghan, an American in the family, but absolutely committed to an English way of life she married into. Fascinating snap shots of an English way of life in rural England. Warts and all, a picture of the trials and tribulations of an aristocratic family surviving and adapting to modern Britain. Compulsive viewing.
Think a 'live in' married couple who would be willing to do things like cleaning the books and taking care of cleaning furniture and anything that is asked that is within thier ability and talents and vocational ability. They could either pay for their own area with a bedroom/living area and full bathroom and perhaps a mini kitchen or not? But they can pay back wages for the living area, or have it subtracted from pay as needed?* Or one of the cottages perhaps* (giving more privacy from the families maybe?) if it did not take too much money from the family in the process? (I have seen some Chateaus actually having people volunteer their services, and balanced for the fact they can live and eat at the home and have their own areas for privacy when not working.) of having the wife maybe do more in the house and the husband can work with her with things in the home, and when needed they would split up, and he would do outside things or other things within the home as needed? Maybe you already have this and it would help to always have a cupel that can willingly do the extras the other help are not doing? They would always be there for helping each day as needed in any way needed. In the U.S. it is getting hard to get help and so having someone right there to work may work best when they are screened well.
Wasn't Pepy's a bit of a carouser too. But I think he felt guilty and Charles II and the "crew" had no guilty feelings. Thomas Hobbes all the way. I think he made comments about Barbara Palmer's Duchess of Cleveland's under clothes. Hmmm! LOL I love the Earl describing the things regarding the navy because that entered into things with James II. Didn't he have to resign because he converted?
I am pausing to say again what a fan I am. Dare I say I am bordering on the whole of the term fanatic? Who says the English are stuffy? The Earl and Countess are so warm, lovely and endearing. As always a big and exuberant American hug is coming your way and many thanks for allowing me to visit.
I know it doesn't make sense, but does anyone else see the resemblance between Edward Montague in that painting and the current Countess of Sandwich as they are side by side?
I have to wonder if the mystery Tuscan desk wasn't bought on some gentleman's grand tour. There have to have been some young men that didn't care about statues.
Was Edward Montague married to Essex Cheeke? If he was,and you are their descendants, then we are cousins! I am a descendant of her father and her brother Anthany was my first American ancestor.
I thoroughly enjoy the Earl and Countess, bu if you cant affrod the house sell it to the National Trust. You shouldn't get to own a property like that on the back of other peoples money
Is one allowed to call an Earl and Countess darling? Terribly bad form should one be English I'm sure, but I'm American and I think they're just darling!
The Earl and Countess of Sandwich are such a joy, I just love them so much! I could listen to them day after day for hours and hours. Please tell them thank you so much for sharing their knowledge with us. Listening to them is my favorite way to wind down after a long day!

What nice people, so generous with their time and knowledge.
sweet and special people
To the Countess and Earl, recording your knowledge will preserve your stories and wisdom for all the future generations. I can't think of a better gift!
I’ll bet that they feel so blessed to have Luke and Julie at the helm ❤ Wonderful to hear from them about the histories.

Yes we all wish he had continued! But grateful for what we have. 😀
Luke's parents are so cute and adorable!❤💙❤
The Earl of Sandwich did an awesome job!
Beautiful Library, I love the comfy look. Thank you Earl and Countess for sharing the wonderful history of your home and it’s past.
So exciting to be able to have the privilege to see and hear about the family.
This was just a joy to watch!!
Many thanks to the Earl and the Countess.
I just love your opening music and scenes! Beautiful ❤️! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and treasures with us! Precious!
Hello from Louisiana where we are drowning in rain... but the plants are beautiful.
Watching from Louisiana too. I just came back from Colorado with beautiful weather to Louisiana Rain. 😔
what a joy what a joy of these people.
Thank you so much for these posts. There is phenomenal knowledge in the Countess's head! I hope there's a book of it all somewhere!

So very interesting. What a memory too. I guess when it’s family it’s easier but still...
I love how the Countess had to crawl to fix a leak.
We all crawl a lot to fix leaks!
Hearing the Countess tell the story of crawling under the eves to search out a water leak was such a surprise! She is so dignified. My mental picture of that just makes me laugh.
Alabama here. Charming couple love the tour. Like the everyday human tidbits.
Thank you so much to the Earl and Countess! Beyond FABULOUS! The wealth of history, artifacts, superb delivery, videography! Well done!
Makes me want to visit England very soon. I was there in 1988 and that’s been so long. Visited Ireland 🇮🇪 in 2015.
Please come and visit!
@@MappertonLive Thank you!! I would love it.
And from Mississippi...these two are precious and lovely. They love their home and show it beautifully.
Debbie here, Washington.👩🌾. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing..💚
All this is amazing! I love the incident of the "choco-latte making" receipe!

Hello from Texas! What a lovely tour!

We will do another episode on the all the satirical cartoons 👍

Wonderful, watching from Tennessee
Ok, now I am ordering a copy of the Diary of Samuel Pepys!
Brilliant
It is such a wonderful tour. The stories are amazing. Love that it’s’ tour is because they have lived there. 💗😊💗
Beautiful details , art, & woodwork! Amazing history! Thanks!
I agree with that lovely lady, that dude in the painting has fishy hands. Great content, as usual thanks! Saying hi from Connecticut US.
They look like the hands of Mr. Burns on The Simpsons. Fishy indeed!
Hello from Mapperton and thanks for watching!
Brilliant video, can't wait to come visit now covid restrictions are easing.
That "bug cabinet" is so cool!!!!
I'll introduce you to all the members of the family... Ok I'm hooked
I’d like to hear more about her family and how they met.
Lovely, brilliant and interesting video.
How about the bowl on top of the cabinet? Underneath the Greek carving? It has the Masonic symbol on it!
I bet Nester loves the bug cabinet! Lol
Thanks! Lol
Love the history love the enormous estate and hearing all stories that comes with it. From Rosie of the Bronx New York 🍓🍓🍓🎩

Thank you for your lovely comment! 😀
Is there any connection with your family and the montagu's of Boughton House? Greetings from South Africa.
Yes, we are all part of the same family, descended from Lord Montagu of Boughton 😀
I want to ask about the bowl I saw in the Beginning of the video in the corner of the frame with the Freemason symbols
We call it the Masonic Bowl
Was Edward Montague married to Essex Cheeke? If he was,and you are their descendants, then we are cousins! I am a descendant of her father and her brother Anthany was my first American ancestor.
I thoroughly enjoy the Earl and Countess, bu if you cant affrod the house sell it to the National Trust. You shouldn't get to own a property like that on the back of other peoples money

That’s ok! Thanks for watching.
