RIP the three members of The Bobby Fuller Four
Jim Reese (December 7, 1941 - October 26, 1991), aged 49
Bobby Fuller (October 22, 1942 - July 18, 1966), aged 23
Randy Fuller (January 29, 1944 - May 16, 2024), aged 80
You will be remembered as legends
I love Bobby Fuller four
Fantastic song! Even almost 60 years later, they're tearing it up and rockin' out! Dare anyone to put this tune on in a car on an open road and not thrash the speed limit!
I'd be going at least 60 mph in a 40 mph zone ( Lake Street ) and end up in Rockford with this song on in my car
I got my first speeding ticket while accelerating to this song!
A lot of artists have song this tune over the years, but Bobby Fuller version is the best. It's sad the a few months after cutting this song he died a mysterious death at the age of just 23.
Many good covers. I love The Clash cover of it. Do you?
@@jamesgibson3242 The original version was released by The Crickets in 1960. It was written by Crickets drummer Sony Curtis. Love The Clash Version especially the live video.
This song would be preserved in the Smithsonian, if I had my way.
Bobby, you genius, you.
60’s by far best years for music.
this song is immortal
Randy can finally ask Bobby what happened.that night. R.I.P to them both.
The Best Versionof this classic...
Bobby Fuller. I wake in the morning humming that tune makes my day. wish he was still around.
Great great song ! I loved it in the 60's and I still love it now in 2022. It is such a travesty that he was murdered so young. I akways believed that he was murdered.
No he wasn't. He transported an empty can of gasoline, after helping some friends and put it on the front floor of his car, inhaling the fumes, as he drove back home. Sad.
I bet it was an enraged boyfriend or husband.
I heard the Mafia murdered him, because they owned the record company who signed him, I believe it was over money.
@@superbirden57 I believe it was that he was dropping LSD with the girlfriend of some local mob boss.
i love LOVE hearing demos always have, getting a peak at the evolution of a song. i still think Fullers released version of the song has one of Rock N Rolls greatest vocals.
大好きな歌なので聴けてよかったです!ありがとうございます!
Brilliant sound, I just love this song
Thanks for these wonderful photos! I remember well when I read in the newspaper about Bobby Fuller's death in 1966; I was a kid and I didn't understand how someone so young could die. He was so cute and so talented, and his death was never really solved.
I read that in the middle of the night he went to meet a girl who was a mafia guy's girlfriend. You know how they say a person is usually killed by the last person they see? dunh Cops threw away a gas can that was crucial evidence; cops were asleep at the switch on this one.
@@ofbyforpeople1384 The story of his death is so interesting, and so sad that we'll never know the truth...
@@kathryndeleonable We pretty much do. But not enough to indict the bastards. He was murdered brutally by the LA mob and it was called a "suicide" by LAPD. God rest Bobby's gentle soul, and may his killers and their enablers rot in the fires of Hell.
@@chuckthesham5195 They will..what goes around, comes around, karma.
They should have released it like this. The slight echo on the voices is amazing.
I agree. I like this version more than any I've heard (and I've heard a few). More energy than the recorded studio version. I can understand why Bobby Fuller's voice was the focus on the studio version, but this one is great. Sometimes the demos are the best.
The vocals are so much better on this.
I can just see the smile on some record executives face when he heard this for the first time.
Love the photos!!! Superb job, Norton Records. And as has been commented on other Bobby Fuller postings, it's a shame we don't really know what happened to Bobby, other than he died under suspicious circumstances. Super talent with a huge future. Tragic loss.
Thank you for posting those rare pictures of Bobby Fuller. This is my most favorite song of him, awesome!
Wow - Divine production quality. Many Thanks 🎉
Heard this song from a car with loud radio one day and you should have seen the eyes and ears on me as I wound my Harley up through the gears with my thunder header exhaust! Even the cool Statie thought it sounded pissa! NO TICKET! 102mph in a 65 Jeff D. Shirley,Ma.

Amazing how a song can go from "zip gun" to "shotgun," to "six gun."
Stun Gun next.
Michael Lascuola this is the first time I've heard the shotgun version his later cut of it had six gun. The Crickets are the only ones I've heard sing zip gun.
@@michaelelsy2209 Sonny Curtis, who wrote the song and played guitar on the Cricket's original version uses zip gun, so zip gun it is!
I love it!
Bobby got them heaters brother
Wonderful sound! GREAT photos. Thanks!
Must be worth a fortune. Best version I've ever heard. I'm jealous as hell!
Great version of a great song.
♫►"Love's Made a Fool of You" is a song co-written and originally performed by Buddy Holly. It was later re-recorded by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets, with the lead vocal by Earl Sinks, and famously covered by the Bobby Fuller Four.
Buddy Holly first wrote the song in 1954. It was not until 1958 that it was recorded, as an Everly Brothers demo, which was not released until 1964 on the posthumous Showcase LP. The first public release of "Love's Made a Fool of You", however, was by the Crickets, headed by Sonny Curtis in 1959. It was released as a single from In Style with the Crickets, and stayed on the U.K. singles chart for two weeks, peaking at #26. The Crickets' version, without Holly, was accidentally included on the 1972 compilation album Buddy Holly: A Rock and Roll Collection; the same mistake was made on 1997's The Very Best of Buddy Holly. The Bobby Fuller Four released a version of the song in 1966, and it became one of the group's most famous songs. It was another Crickets cover, to follow their smash-hit "I Fought the Law". It broke the Top 30, and was also performed live on Hollywood A Go-Go. This recording features Dalton Powell on drums, taking over from longtime drummer, DeWayne Quirico.

Evergreen! I like it! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I firmly believe this is better than the version they released.
agreed!
I wish talent still existed like this today. Real musicians playing instruments. Now it's all a bunch of shit.
I feel ya man it's a real shame at least we have memories
True
What are you talking about. There are a millions of real musicians recording today...
Beautiful singers them fullers brothers
Bobby was murderd what a shame to lose so good a singer
A great pioneer musician of early Rock N' Roll. This song was fantastic. Bobby Fuller and his Four were already headed for the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. Jealousy, the LA Mafia , the Police and Bob Keene all conspired against him. They wanted their piece of the pie and corruption murdered him. Bastards did him in. Just like what happened to the King Elvis Presley. Promoters, Producers, managers are all bloodsuckers to be cautious of when you have talent. They exploit the real Star and live off their Successes. Evil manipulators.
Actually this is cover of The Cricket's song from 1960.
Wow! The fantastic origin of one of the greatest songs. Ever. I've listened to the final studio release of this song over and over again for more than half a century! There's nothing else like the rock that Fuller did. It almost makes me cry to see these wonderful pictures, but thanks so much for posting them.
Actually, it is a cover of the Crickets' single
@@geetsromo9004 Yes. Sonny Curtis of the Crickets wrote it in 1958, and they recorded it in 1960
...and Sonny Curtis's lyric was "robbing people with a ZIP gun"- a bigger crime in Texas because of a strick law against home- made firearms.
Thanks for the correction re Sonny Curtis. I like Fuller’s way better, but Sonny’s was obviously the inspiration.
Reminds me of a "Cheers" episode...
Bobby Fuller, brilliant
God bless the Fullers
50 years ago tomorrow.......July 18th. Tragic!
sounded great!
The mystery of Bobby Fuller lives on
Never seen some of these still pictures. Thanks.
Crickets, Bobby ,The Clash , Green Day .....the list will go on ....its just a great song .
Wonderful to hear this version! Glad to have Dangerous Minds on my Facebook.
I Fought the Law est une chanson de Sonny Curtis, qui a remplacé Buddy Holly à son décès enregistrée avec The Crickets en 1959, popularisée par Bobby Fuller en 1965...
KELP with Steve Crosno DJ. That was my station I went to the dentist in Scottsdale near where Bobby lived.
oringinal, simple and clean
The Crickets were the first to sing this back in 59.
I think the uploader means original recording by Bobby Fuller, since he did a re record in 1966.
Crickets without Buddy Holly
Yes and released in 1960
Written by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets...
@@ryanmanley441 Should be made clear in the title though. To be honest Norton Records should know better.
This is great!

GOOD AND RAW !!!
I believe this is the take that features Billy Webb on rhythym guitar and Larry Thompson on drums. If I recall correctly.
Raw garage sound is better than the 1966 over processed version.in fact much could be said for a few others especially Only when I dream and a New shade of blue. The alternate takes were great.
He did a really great cover of Miserlou. He really could play guitar.
Amen to that!
This is the version with the legendary Jerry Miller (later of Moby Grape) on guitar.
Hi Guys, Great song - cool video. LUVV the pics. First time I've heard this demo - it's great! IFTL is one of THE great songs from the 60's. Thanks, Oldies Guy aka Tom K.
Shakedown! Texas Tapes
Iv'e loved this song ever since I first heard it in the early 60's.
I always thought that it was an EVERLY BROTHERS number.
I stand corrected!
Many have covered it.
None can match the original.
Bobby Fuller Four!
Yeah!
It's so cool to hear the alt. "SHOT GUN" version.
Hey.
And even better :
"ZIP GUN"!
Ha!!
Phill Wallace the original version is by the Crickets without Buddy Holly written by Sonny Curtis.
this is a little different, thanks for sharing.
After listening to this demo, I can say, as someone has already done, that the lyrics are slightly different to the ones in the 1966 version. As far as my ear has managed to catch, this could be this demo's lyrics. Hope somebody can tell me if it's OK.

Thank you for the lyrics. Loved the rhythm of the song and now, even more. Because of knowing the lyrics. Good lyrics as well.
The original lyrics are zip gun and thanks for the lyrics for this version.
920 KELP was the hot AM radio station in El Paso. Bobby Fuller was murdered because he wanted to leave Del-Fi Records. Larry Nunes had invested a lot of money on him including paying a L.A. radio station a lot of money to play this song.
This is good. I always liked this song. Shot gun! Why not?
vojne, vojne! Stygg pojke!
Two words: THE CLASH!!!!
The Clash version is very average, nothing there.
Robbing people with a "shotgun??" Much better in the original Crickets/BFF/Clash versions with a "6 gun" with the drummer pounding out the six shots...IMO. Pretty cool hearing the little nuances that are different from the later release. Looked like Bobby had a few female fans in the accompanying video. With his talent and charisma he would have been a HUGE star.
It's zip gun. At least in the crickets version.
+kyle anderson I like zip gun. I thought there was a version from Bobby Fuller with zip gun. Also want to find the "I miss my baby and a good fuck" version.
Zip gun is correct. That was the way Sonny Curtis wrote it.@@kyleanderson4160
Great Guitar skill would of been IMHO A unique Slidestrum solo in the mid with the legend of Strat blissfully displaying that =)
Could you please restate that in plain English?
nice bass, cool guitar solo
lead vocal overdubs were too thick; glad they dialed them down in the final studio recording
At this late date I doubt that we will never know why Bobby was murdered. I suspect he stepped on somebody's toes....somebody with juice and a bad temper.
KELP radio El Paso Tx
Good rock and roll knows no bounds of time. Goddamn the LA mob and the LAPD. They murdered him and covered it up. May God rest his soul.
Bad ass
Better than the hit version (Which is a copy of the Crickets' original, nearly note for note)
JOYITA!
+Claudia Arteaga Y la versión pulida es fantástica .... mi versión favorita!

Who are the kids in the video? Thank you!
Tim, the kids in the video are his fans most likely.Bobby really liked to hang out with his many fans!
Original by thé crickets !
Dangerous Minds brought me here
The initial news report claimed he died as a result of sniffing gasoline fumes.
Timing-wise, this would have to be the one Jerry Miller played the lead on, wouldn't it?
i was in school then
IS IT JUST ME OR DOES THIS DEMO HAVE MORE OF A TODAYS SOUND TO IT IN SOME WAYS ?
The drums are louder and more compressed than Tex Mex of the 50's.
got thrown in jail freshman year in college. got out and dorm-mates sang " mike fought the law and the law won..."
best song in mafia 3
I read where Jerry Miller (Moby Grape) played guitar for their early version, could this be it?
Luvs me some Miriam.
The crikets 1959
Is this one of the versions that Jerry Miller (Moby Grape) played on?
I've heard that it was either Billy Webb or Jerry Miller. But it was one of the two.
I think so. Met Jerry Miller a couple of years ago, unreal player.
Not a demo, an actual original Exeter single, right?
Is this the only variant that had him using a shotgun?
Yes. With Bobby, you ahve the option of a Shot gun, a six gun, and a zip gun!
@@nortonrecords7533 Excellent! Do you know of any other variants? I thought I remembered one where at 0:52, the emphasis wasn't on holding the word girl but instead broke ever down slower (ev-er-had with each being a beat). Does this sound familiar?
This demo was it recorded in 1964 at El Paso Texas???
Twas!

It was the original demo by Bobby Fuller before his released studio recording. TRY SOME READING COMPREHENSION !!!

shotgun in the demo instead of six gun
he must have had women crawling all over him!! what a good-looking guy he was.
