This got me interested in watching more pulp molding videos. It's not really something you see a lot but I found the process very fun to watch and I love that it uses recycled material.
Ah yes, the Daruma. Such a monument of Japanese culture! I assume they must be carved by master craftsmen, from the most noble wood, with extreme care and sk... video: /old egg boxes/ .... Alright, guess that works too...
Very interesting! Thank you, as always for the captions, they are well done and useful. A note to the captioner. The term you were looking for when applying the makeup was an ‘airbrush’. Airbrush can also be used as a verb. So, you could say “The makeup is applied with an airbrush’, or ‘the makeup is airbrushed on’.
Its hard work did you see the man carrying the darumas? He was trying and not breaking it and takes a lot of days or work bur its really really pretty!
Thank you for replying. I live in the UK and I don't know whether they would be available here. The ones in the video are painted beautifully. Why do they use egg boxes.
papier mache basically, they are made from paper. In fact this is something that other countries could use to their own advantage as well, making many other things out of recycled paper/cardboard instead of plastic would both be a great way to recycle paper AND reduce the use of plastics. And they simply disintegrate eventually back into the earth again. Especially if suitable paints are used. I think this is a great idea.
These were made in Takasaki city, where there are many different makers. I can think of several that I pass by on a daily basis. But they produce nearly a million per year, and represent a majority of the Daruma made by in Japan, so while I’ve never looked, I assume you can get Takasaki Daruma all over Japan. Just to point out, though, the size they’re making costs about $50.
Great! If these objects can be made out of egg cartons, then lots of other things could be made. Plates, or cheap tables, or coffins. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
Lovely process, but why the Chinese music..? Doesn't sound the least Japanese... More like some royalty free musician's idea of what it should sound like.
You paint one eye when setting your goal and the other when achieving. They are weighted at the base (the wood disc glued on) which signifies resilience as it will bounce back after being knocked over.

I didn’t know they were made with recycled paper like egg tray. I thought they were ceramic, for some reason. Thanks for the nice video.
Not only a cultural phenomenon of tradition but also a great way to recycle cellulose.
I loved watching the whole process but the artist paint was the best part. So talented.

Fascinating. This prompted me to learn about the Daruma culture of goal setting. Thank you.
Très intéressant, merci pour la vidéo!
Çok güzel oldu👍👏👏 peki ne işe yarıyor? Türkiye'den herkese selam🇹🇷
I always qondered what these were made of , very cool and beautiful
So satisfying to watch. So peaceful... So zen.

Interesting product, it's a shame but the language translation is missing🤔😦
Does anyone ever wished that Mr Rogers could've used this in one of his episodes for how a daruma doll is made?
A bit surreal to see someone wearing a cross necklaces while painting a Daruma.
Namaste 🙏 Bodhi dharuma 🙏
Beautiful 🤩
Similar in shape to the head and face of an owl before completed. @ around 7:10.

Outside of the cat with it's paw up, this is the second most popular "statue" in Japan.
How much are they? They are awesome.
Es ermoso ❤

Why do they have to make the egg boxes in the first place> Why not cut out that process.

the same way of production can be used in making " Jack O Lantern" for 31 Oct, Halloween.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Whats the point or cultural significance of these?
You paint one eye when setting your goal and the other when achieving. They are weighted at the base (the wood disc glued on) which signifies resilience as it will bounce back after being knocked over.
