In San Andreas there were commercials about fictional game console and games; one of them was Mortal Sin.
A wise person once said something like "if you want people to like your game, make a great game. If you want people to be *obsessed* with your game, make an almost-great game".
And that's how I got into game modding.
So Dragon's Dogma?
@@gransorendragonsdogmaii9181 as someone who beat the original DG and is playing the Dark Arisen DLC for the first time you would be CORRECT!! I have to understand this island and get the BEST GEAR NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!
whoever they were, i wanna thank them for making it click why several thousand fanfics are lovingly crafted for god-knows-what media 👍
And with this great quote we conclude our review of Dark Souls 1.
I’m really enjoying the creativity of these videos that aren’t just voice overs with gameplay footage laid over them.
"Maybe I just need One More Run". GO TO SLEEP JESSE.
BUT I BET I COULD HAVE A BETTER RUN IF I START AS A VAMPIRE AND FIND A BIG SWORD
@@RexiconJesse SLEEP NOW, GAME LATER
I've gotten so into Adventure is Nigh that my first reaction to who was talking was "Grinderbin?"😅 , even though I could tell it was Jesse☺😊
Love the review style Jesse 😊 The stream vod for this was fun too. Cheers! 🍻
Happy to see this odd gem get some more exposure. Appreciate you guys!
+20 urge to buy this game
i watch all of these because i found "in stars and time" through them and HOLY FUCK is that one of the best games ever written and its amazing and left me an emotional wreck and if i never found another game through this series that i loved half as much as i do in stars and time. the time spent watching these would all be worth it for that one game.
Thanks, now I'm gonna ruin my sleep schedule too!
Another trippy ass roguelike if anyone is curious - Golden Light, check it out and may the meat be with you xD
This was a really nice look into a indie game I don't think is my cup of tea.
Cool video on a cool game I had no idea existed.
Thanks!
looks like generic fantasy dungeon crawler BUT the artstyle is peak and its got a kick button
This is great... Also, I'm never inviting you to a party.
:c
I think this is kind of the point of all rougelikes. I don't think they universally work on everyone, but if you find the *right* roguelike you'll sink a lot of time into it. What I do think is universal is that the game is random, but not too random, and that skill matters. If the only thing that ultimately matters is the right build, you will inevitably end up in a place where you seek the right build or just give up prematurely since it really doesn't mean much to try.
Love this review
I'd love to give this game a try but I simply can NOT get over the visuals.
it hurts my eyes a bit, but i love this game and it's perfect for my downtime between big games.
Oh so it's first person Fear and Hunger but less batshit, got it.
Visually, this game ain't for me; but I do like how it's FPS Melee Combat invokes those feelings of Hexen for me =)
Can anyone tell me the name of that enchanting song at the end of this video?
The game looks interesting but the visual direction makes me think if I play this for more that 20 mins I'll get a headache.
All eyes are different, but I played for hours and had no eye strain.
Grinderbin!!!
Nice
My eyes do not like that art style
Ah yes, Roguelites and Roguelikes, some of the best time sucks in gaming
If you really want a game that makes no sense, try Golden Light.
I really enjoyed Golden Light. Though it might be a little too "what is going on" for me. Still thought it was good and am intrigued enough to want more.
Ga min, g
Seems cool as hell, won't buy it, that art style is making my eyes hurt halfway through the video.
Oh yeah huh
really wish more people would watch these because they’ve seriously brought my attention to some amazing indie titles & i really want this series to remain supported!!
It's not goin anywhere! Viewcounts aren't our measure of success here, the funding through Patreon and all that is! We make stuff cause we want to.
Agreed, I've bought Sanabi, and Turnib Boy Robs A Bank after watching these reviews 👍. Love how they bring some less known indie titles to a spotlight.
I catch every episode myself. This game isn't particularly for me since I don't do good with rogue likes it's still interesting, and I dig the visual style. I did end up grabbing Sanabi, though, and have really been digging that.
YES! THIS!
@@SecondWindGroup tbh the smaller, lesser known series and new content is my favourite thing about the recent fallout. I’ve discovered so much
Absolutely not my kind of game, but entertaining review anyway
Seems like my game but god I hate that art style 😂
@@knickknack675
Yeah this. It's not just grating to look at, it's also has no visual clarity, which is detrimental to gameplay.
I get it looks very messy. That was my first thought, too, but you can adjust the graphics with lots of settings. There are even different colour pallets you can unlock. You really do get used to it. Everything has a distinct colour, so it has some visual clarity imo.
@@Lilliathi this is just straight up not true. The art style in-fact allows you to have a very fast flow state of subconscious information filtering in as you get into it.
@@Exaltable
No, you're biased because you enjoy the game. You got used to the graphics, but they're not good.
I think it's worth emphasising that this is an early access title created by one person. While I agree with all your negative critiques, the pace and quality of each patch leaves me very reassured that they will be addressed. It's a great little game, deserving of attention.
I had the same thought. I went and looked at the steam page and saw it was in EA so hopefully the mentioned bugs will be addressed by full release, but it's a little mean not to mention its release status in the review at the time of posting.
I love this game. Flawed? Yes. Hard on the eyes? Yeah. But this game genuinely has some of the best first-person melee combat I've seen in a while.
Mortal Sin is one of my favourites :) thanks for giving this game more attention
Glad getting one shot for no reason and not really understanding how much the stats change the overall game is a shared experience. Absolutely love the meat grinder feel of it all though. Old ingredients come together to make vitriolic fun, just need to add some more QOL
Yeah, it is cruel and chaotic, but that's pretty much the theme of the game. It is meant to be a struggle
Guess I'm adding this to the backlog of games to play too.
Honesty, I'm enjoying playing games with these out there artstyles, just finished the demos for Cultic and Mullet MadJack and this looks like more of that over the top visual chaos, so I guess I'm in?
I don't think I can look at this particular game for long without my eyeballs dissolving, but I definitely know the feeling of lying awake unable to stop myself from thinking about all of the different factors of my last session with [insert game here] and what I could have done differently to improve.
a title like "One more run" could be its own rogue-like/lite series
‘You Died’ screen. Vaguely resembles Berserk. Obtuse mechanics and story. Hit enemies with a girder attached to a popsicle stick…wait a minute!
Aw man, I think this is the first time where the gameplay looks entirely like my thing but that artstyle is just… abrasive for me
Wow, this game is hard on the eyes.
Agreed! I don't think I could spend more than a half hour at a time playing this without needing a break.
Mileage will vary, but it's actually not half as bad as it looks in footage. Only a couple of the color palette options have given me any trouble.
The store page even has a disclaimer that most recording compresses it to all heck.
Really took a page from Cruelty squad, though that game is even more crazy in the artstyle department
Yay - good to see more produced videos from Jesse!
Not my kinda game, but its very pretty, and i like Jesse's presentation style - much like his own 'Behind Schedule' reviews!
Thanks, Andrew!
This & design delve are easily my favorite series on this channel
This was such an entertaining review!! I loved the vibe and the framing of the nighttime hours slipping away from you, very relatable. Really feels like i've got a good idea of what it's like to play the game. Awesome work coming out of Second Wind as usual
This video captures what's it like when a game just won't leave your brain 😂
This genuinely captures the claws that clutch me when I play some of my favorite roguelites.
had my eye on this for when it exits early access
Fine to wait for the full release, but I think it's worth it now.
Seems pretty cool, added to my wishlist.
I really like Soulslikes and Roguelikes and Doom, so I'd probably enjoy this, thanks for the review Jesse!
I am an avid viewer of Second Wind but I feel like Bytesized as a format is still underdeveloped. I mean, it’s not bite-sized as the name suggests because it’s usually well over 2-3 minutes, and it doesn’t have a recognizable theme like other Second Wind content does. Editing is key in my opinion, and I don’t mean video editing but script editing. When I watch a 7 minute review for a game I’m hearing about for the first time, framing “Should I pick those boots or the others” as a dilemma is kind of like… Is this for people who don’t play much games? Because it’s an obvious mechanic for anyone who ever played a roguelike/roguelite.
I have much love for the reviewer and the entire team of course, and I hope if anyone reads this critique they will take it positively 🙏🏻
I don’t think I could play this because the visuals are hurting my eyes but a very cool review regardless.
Great review and it's the best/worst feeling when a game drives you to stay up all night thinking about it
Beautiful review
That's a good review even if the game doesn't strike your fancy as a viewer.
Remember kids if you sleep too much then play a rouge-like
that video was geniunely intrigueing. but, i think i need, one more run.
Posting for engagement since I've gotten some banger recommendations from this series.
man this could be the most fun gameplay in the galaxy but it still is a visual diarrhea :/
I am almost curious about the decisionmaking behind the visuals. Tone the saturation down, pick a right colour palette, and it's a perfectly fine roguelite. This just makes your eyes bleed.
There are quite a few customization options for the visuals, but you can't get rid of the grainy-ness completely.
Alot of art styles stop me from playing games cuz it makes my eyes strain and gives me a headache. I do like hearing people talk about them tho. Like when someone talks about a show i find boring or a book i hate.
It could use options for a more approachable set of colors, but it's really not as bad as it looks in videos.
I'm not really a Rogue Like guy, but I do like the art style of this game
I feel the same feelings with Kenshi my man.
Beautifully written and performed script, Jesse.
Thanks!
Hate to say it, but your description of the game's flaws at the end, particularly the tendency to kill you for things that aren't reasonably your fault, was enough to turn me off the game. That tends to be a deal breaker for me. I was contemplating getting it up until then.
Here's to hoping that gets patched or improved in updates or for the main release. Because it's a great game.
That's recently been dealt with for traps, at least. The dev is very responsive to feedback, so there's a good chance that will be adjusted in time.
This is exactly how I feel about Dead Cells. Except for the wonkiness. Dead Cells was Tight like a Tiger.
Man this game looks amazing but I cannot get past that art style. It’s making my eyes water just watching this video. If I played I’d probably get a migraine. I get that they were going for something different but damn this is just hideous.
Man, Yahtzee sounds REAL different when he's not talking so fast.
It's a good question. If your lizard-brain wants to play a game until 5AM, does that make it a good game?
I think it needs to motivate your lizard-brain a little bit but too much and it loops around to being bad.
A bit long for a byesized, maybe? honestly, a welcome small discrepancy in this case. This is a great review! well written, informative, and entertaining.
This game seems to hit all the right notes for an effective roguelike experience.
Absolutely loved this review. I do miss 3MR though. Can we have both?
I appreciate the Point of View, but not my kind of game. Hearing that there's issues with the game that showcase issues around teaching the player how they died makes for very bad play sessions for me and is something I've quit quite a number of games for.
Maybe part of the fun is that they don't explain absolutely everything, so you get to explore the game for yourself?
Quality.
This might be the best Bytesized so far. Unfortunately I have no interest in the game due to it's visual aesthetics and the jank mentioned. But I kind of imagine this was what Hellraid was going to be when it was still envisioned as its own game and not DLC. (or at least what it should have been)
The visual style is cool, but I can feel my anxiety rising just looking at it. Still, a neat concept for sure!
the visual style is *cool* but I dont think I could manage to enjoy playing having to not only look at it but also parse and react to it for a period of time
Same as some of the Black & White games like Return of the Obra Din
The game looks well sh!t and the description makes me want to not play it
But I was hoping to hear about fixing the sleep schedule
Bought this when it first hit early access, but had to return it because it had a weird bug that would constantly cut the movement speed in half. Just the movement, everything else was fine.
This reminds me of my relationship with The Binding of Isaac.
That game really is something else and I appreciate all the work that went into making it but it ended up turning into a roundabout form of self harm for me. Being an hour into a run and dying to something that I could only know about if I had the wiki open on another monitor was not good for my blood pressure to say the least.
This game’s art style reminds me of the Hylics games. The surrealist color pallet and the animation makes it look almost like real life, but in an uncanny way
Amusingly there are currently 777 likes. Seems a shame to ruin it, but here I go anyway.
It's a shame; it looks unique and sounds interesting but I seriously can't deal with the visuals.
God, I hope the algorithm starts being kind to you. You are a helluva storyteller.
nice ^^
My little pretty eyes hurt after watching couple of minutes of gameplay, definitely not for me.
why are the second wind reviews so gooooood
Cause we're a freaking awesome team.
sounds like a game I need to avoid since I like my sleep schedule
You can check what the stats do by checking your inventory
Not sure about the game, but the ending music of the video is amazing reminds me of starting life is strange for the first time
Is there an option to have normal looking colors on screen. Such an eye sore
I am unable to understand how this could be fun for anyone.
This game feels like a secret game found in the bottom of a well. I love it.
That extended hitbox at the end was absolutely disgusting
Second Wind has been a blast compared to the Escapist
My eyes hirt the moment I saw the art style, but the way you described the game makes me want to try anyway.
Looks like someone's biting Mork Borg's style!
For Jesse's own well-being they cannot play Tiny Rogues, they'll never sleep again 😂
Tiny Rogues, you say? I think I need to check it out.
more like If im a berserker, im Guts from berserk
UA-cam algorithm help
Just a comment for that algorithm
Sounds like you need Roboquest.
