I bought a 1991 Daimler XJ40 just a few months ago, and despite a small fault in the front suspension I still love driving it. The sound of the 4 litre straight 6 is wonderful. In fact, my father who travelled with me to pick it up got so jealus of it that he had to go and get a 1994 Jaguar XJ40 for himself haha.
@almal7591 I believe your right. My mothers friend had one. It was gorgeous. I couldn't understand why I was so in love with that car, Id I believe it was because of its subtle gold paint. It was amazing.
Bought my first Jaguar recently since we had the Inspector Morse Jag in the 1970s. It was an X type estate deisel Did 40 mpg. Had it for 3 years and it cost me nothing. Paid £5300 cash for it. Completely reliable. Part ex for my current XE 2.0 I Prestige for which I paid £17500 at 11000 miles and got £2500 for my estate. New Jag drives beautifully and I had forgotten how much I misse RWD. Beautiful ZF 8 speed box. British Racing Green. Bit tight in the back.
I har a 1988 3,6 Daimler, and absolutely loved it. Currently owning both a X300 Daimler Six and XJR, but are seriously considering to get a XJ40 again as well. Few cars can match the feel of these Jaguars.
Lovely car. I've been looking at this same car for ages in the classifieds. Ended up getting an X300! Totally agree with the engine choices when buying a luxury saloon. Buy what you like. I got the 3.2 and does the job well. By the way, it was the X300 which followed the Xj40, not the X308 :)
What’s the link between Daimler and Jaguar? In the UK in the 90s you could buy the (I think) the Jaguar XJ40 or buy the exact same car but under the Daimler brand. Maybe I’m misremembering it all
Dont care about the technical problems .That interior is the absolute greatest ,and these series got the most slick looks of any Jag,in my opinion.Would love to buy one,and convert it to electric .And then i would never need another car for the rest of my life
I picked my tatty 1988 370,000km up for $1500. Its just completed it's second 2000+ kilometer round-trip Albany - Esperance - Kalgoorlie - Perth - Albany. Would I trust it for another? - - - - ABSOLUTELY. 9Ltrs per 100km
Geoff, im actually looking at this car right now, i found in went for action with 97k on the clock in 2017 and 2 owners, its now 2022, with 99k and 6 owners, so 4 owners in 5 years and only 2k driven in that time, is there something wrong with it i should know before i buy it?
No youre wrong . Its predecessor the series 3 was the epitome of all that was Jaguar . It didnt need gizmo's of any description, why should it as it was the chairmans car , the VIP , the guy who didnt want an extension of his busy office , just a silent ride to his destination . and he liked to see the reflection in the shop windows as the car made its stately way down the high street and feeling every inch a Captain of industry which he didnt get from an old 40 ! and those cortina headlights ! ghastly . not to mention the cheaper tacky trim and the dashboard that came straight from the hi fi before your last one . Jaguar were lambasted by owners wanting something like the traditional series 3 . Luckily there are a few more NOS series 3's coming back from Japan with delivery mileage only on them and to me the absolute nightmare of the 40 can be laid to rest . MY own series 3 Double six Daimler is ex Japanese with just 20 k on the clock and motoring magnificence . the 40 ? Pah !
I did really well on it in the end, it made £3k so it was about £800 profit all said and done. Hence I didn’t mind spending a day freezing my nuts off driving it to london with no heaters on the 2nd Jan in a blizzard!! And that’s why the video is so long, it’s like a top gear special where I get slowly more cold and annoyed... I might post it up full length!

Beautiful!! Traditional Jags are timeless in their beauty.
What a beautiful car, exceptional. The blue with the cream interior is absolutely stunning and elegant.
The XJ40 is a amazing car, then and now.
More so then. Much more so!
I would love a dark red, black, or blue xj40 of this era.

Was followed by the X300 than only the X308 came . Just for info .
