Voodoo Planet by Andre Norton is a science fiction novel that follows the adventures of Dane Thorson and the crew of the Free Trader ship, the Solar Queen. The story is set on the jungle world of Khatka, a planet originally settled by native-African refugees from Earth’s atomic wars. Khatka is now a safari world where big-game hunters come to test their skills.
Dane, along with Captain Jellico and Medic Craig Tau, is invited to Khatka by Chief Ranger Kort Asaki. They soon find themselves entangled in a conflict with a witch doctor named Lumbrilo, who uses psychological manipulation, hallucinogenic drugs, and latent telepathy to conjure up ghosts and demons.
The crew faces various dangers, including being stranded in the jungle and encountering poachers. Medic Tau, who has studied magic on many worlds, ultimately confronts Lumbrilo, turning his magic back on him and resolving the conflict. The crew then returns to the Solar Queen, hoping for a quieter journey ahead.
