Let me know if you like these “tech talk” style videos! I’d also really appreciate if you’d LIKE & subscribe if you haven’t already 🙂 It makes all the difference! ps. Forgot to mention that I’m NOT affiliated or sponsored by eureka. I just love their products. Let me know your thoughts on the MIGNON!
Just for filtered coffee, would you get this or the Fellow Od with new burrs?
I called 2 popular places that sell Eureka grinders in the US to find out when they'll have this grinder. One said probably in a year as Eureka rolls out new products in Europe first, then it can take another year to distribute in the US. The other shop said it's definitely espresso focused and not really great for filter coffee. (I hope they're both mistaken)
When’s the anticipated release date?
@@wendysue1206 they are not mistaken.
I canceled my DF64 with SSP's and put a pre-order in for this today. I feel much more comfortable with this direction! Can't wait for your hands-on review!
Ya I wasa about to buy the DF64 with SSP though I doubt the stock burrs from Eureka are as good and they made their burrs just 1mm extra to p*ss off people by making them propertary and not compatible with SSP from what I heard, that's a big drawback but then again there is nothing else at this price range as then it goes up 3x the price with the Lagoon P64 :/
It's dubious speculation time! From the size of the knob, we might be able to go from an espresso to brew grind in one turn. The design seems closer to the Perfetto, which offer that feature.
This thing is home goals. Hope it lives up to the hype!!! Can’t wait to see a future video my friend🤘🏻
Thanks lance!
Really stoked about this! If this becomes available where I live, it might very well be my first home espresso grinder paired with the flair 58. I've been holding out on getting a grinder for a while now but this really looks like it might be the one
I was thinking exactly the same combination of grinder and espresso maker. Matte black for both would be such a cool looking pair.
First grinder! So amazing! Ah, can’t wait to share my full thoughts on it!
Same! My Flair 58 should be here this month, and I've been using a JX-Pro for pour over in the meantime. Grinding light espresso is too intense for me (specially if I'll want multiple shots) so I had been researching for weeks and figure my final contenders for a powered grinder are the DF64, Eureka Single... or P64 if I ever saw one on sale. But I otherwise still feel like my initial set up is the BEST high quality economical beginners set up one could get.
really excited about this! hope this becomes a viable competition to the niche
Excited to find out!
I would of bought that grinder had it been available when I purchased the Niche. For my use single dose grinder is the best thing to have. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Niche, my espresso is delicious and seeing my wife using it for her filter coffee is great, could not dream of a better grinder. If I had purchased the Eureka I wuld of had to keep one of our other grinders, I don’t think it will be easy to go from filter to espresso like it’s possible on the Niche. Good job on the video, always great content!🤙
Thanks for the comment! And thanks for watching!
Matte black! It looks so good, my only real concern is with the adjustment dial, as you say, if it needs multiple turns, that's going to be a problem for changing brew methods...
For someone who only does espresso, though, wow, that's going to be an amazing grinder, for sure!
It’ll be interesting! Eureka has had the perfetto which had the full range on one dial. Will be interesting none the less!
@@KyleRowsell But with the Perfetto, that had the effect of "compressing" the range, right? Which made dialing in espresso harder? We'll see how this goes, it'll be one to watch!
@@pphaneuf exactly. I’m trusting that eureka has put thought into this. But time will tell.
Loved this type of video. Would not only love to see it for other products but also would love for you to take it a step further with notable coffee product announcements or even coffee industry news. Your videos never disappoint.
Thanks Andy!
Wow!! That looks promising. It even gets faster motor than Atom 75 and Atom 65. I do own an Atom 75 with blow up hopper, but it doesn’t do well on single dosing. The reason is the retained ground I push out is too coarse. I’m not sure other owners have the same issue as I do. Now, I basically put some spare for purging and retention. I’m really happy to sacrifice few more grams for consistency. I hope they fixed blow out issue on Mignon single dosing. It would be hard to beat at this price point.
Hmm not sure how accurate are my thoughts but if it were to be able to move from espreso filter within 1 turn of that small knob, won't it be too sensitive for fine tuning espresso grinds?
It might be. It would be a trade off for easily swapping brew methods. That being said I’m excited to see the route eureka takes!
@@KyleRowsell Guess we got to wait then 🙂
I own the mignon xl and it looks like they changed the knob. mine goes from 0 to 4, this one has a scale up to 9...
I wonder how competitively priced this will be. Will it be priced higher than niche zero?
Can’t wait for your review
Can’t wait to review it!
I love the looks, quality build and colors very impressive
Excited about this one. I’m preordering.
I like the techtalk video.
I wonder how it will compare to a converted Mignon XL to single dosing.
One interesting difference with the Niche is the gate to release the beans. The Niche starts with beans in the burr but Eureka seems to specifically say the burr shall be turning before feeding the beans.
The Mignon XL has a 320w motor, same wattage for the Mignon single dose. That's interesting...
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback and comment
I can't wait to see what it's like...looking forward to your review! I think this grinder looks great and their fit and finish is on point! Simple a solid machine! I do find it has a slight copy feel to the Niche grinder with the wooden accents...not a bad thing.
I love my Specialita, it's super consistent, quiet, with a beautiful grinding sound 😅 I only do use for espresso as its not easy to move between grind levels.
Love the video. I think the true question is why an Italian company names its coffee grinder in French? If you are European or Canadien, or if like fancy steaks, you have no problem, and I like how you say it, but I can see many people will call it the “minion”. Lol. Can’t wait for the review!
Looking forward to the review! Product is available =)
Initial impressions were encouraging. Not too sure about the long term aesthetics. It starting to look like a metal workers response to the success of the Niche Zero inspired by that tower built in Pisa.
No it looks exactly like the aftermarket 3d printed mods you can get... smaller hopper with bellows, inclined stand with tray... you can buy that today.
Hello. Hello, I hesitate between the XL with Blow Up system and the Atom 75 with Blow Up system (for the SD I have the NZ). Is there a real gain in cup size by switching from the Eureka 65mm burrs of the XL to the 75mm burrs of the Atom?
Great video. Loved the tech talk style. Do you know when this will be available to order for the US market?
No official date yet!
I'm definitely getting one!
You're not alone!
Great job Kyle! I love the preview style video. Lots of excitement about this grinder so any news is good. I agree completely on the multi rotation. It must be easy to change bn beans and espresso vs pour over. I also like the idea of first, a mini-bellows and ability to remove or add it. Any idea on pricing and availability?
Sounds like 599 Euro but not confirmed
Ahh..I just placed a pre-order for the Niche Zero. Wonder what the pricing of this will be and if it's worth cancelling and waiting.
I'm in your exact shoes. I'll probably keep my Niche Zero when it's delivered in October. And if the Eureka Mignon Single Dose gets good reviews, I'll sale my niche.
It seems to me that SD requires three things from a grinder:
1. Low retention
2. Grind consistency without regrinding or slowing down exit stream
3. Grind consistency without hopper of full beans weighing them down
From everything I keep seeing online, (1) is the one that gets the lion's share of attention, but I actually think it's the least important one, because most dedicated SD grinders use a bellows to achieve this, while most OD grinders can be easily fitted with one, and achieve similarly low-retention (also, if purging out a gram or two is all it took, it would be hard to justify spending any more for a dedicated SD grinder. Another thing that makes this a far less important issue is that retention is only a proxy for exchange. If the grinder retains 10 grams from the first few grinds, but those 10 grams stay put when subsequent batches are ground, such that the beans from those batches all make their way out of the grinder without getting stuck in it - that's way better than a grinder that retains just 2 grams, but in more of a FIFO scenario.
I guess the reason why this is the one that gets the most attention, is that it's easy to measure.
The thing is - I had a commercial grinder that pretty much relied on some regrind. If there wasn't a bunch of coffee stuck behind the declumper, the coffee would just shoot out way too quickly, and it would always be far too coarse for espresso. Another issue that I know exists (though I never experienced it myself, at least not such that I could definitively detect) is inconsistent grinds caused due to there being no weight to hold the beans down, as they are fed into the burrs.
This latter problem is somewhat solvable using an improvised weight to hold the beans down without the need for more beans in the hopper. The first problem us often easily solvable using a bellows.
The problem in the middle seems to me like one that cannot be solved - if the grinder is built in this way, you always need to grind some amount more, to push out the grounds that you need, and this amount will always remain in the grinder, so will need to be purged before the next grind.
As such, I believe that the primary consideration for deciding if a grinder is suitable for SD is this issue - of whether or not grind quality and consistency are affected by an unhindered exit stream, with the next most important being how much is retained when using a bellows and how much grind consistency and quality are affected by not having anything to weigh down on the beans (as that is solvable, but solving it is usually not as trivial as installing a bellows).
Low retention without using a bellows is nice to have, for sure, but as most SD grinders don't even have that, and as a bellows is such an easy and cheap addition, it's nothing more than nice to have.
However, it would seem that what is pretty much the only thing that gives grinders SD cred is how much it retains out of the box (i.e. if it comes with a bellows than how much it retains with it, and if it doesn't - then without). Even reviews for grinders that are made for SD usually have nothing to say nothing about how SD affects their grind quality - the only thing that's ever mentioned is retention.
I'd be really interested in everyone's thoughts on the matter.
Also, if you know the answers for these couple of issues beside retention, regarding popular grinders (both dedicated SD grinders and OD grinders), like the Eureka Mignon line, DF64, perhaps even the mother of all SD grinders - the Niche Zero - that could be useful.
Personally, I'd also be super interested in your thoughts on the Baratza Forte in this regard.
Hey Kyle, I’ve watched some of your vids before but hit subscribe on this one :) Interesting stuff. I recently did a big upgrade on my espresso machine but still using my M47 hand grinder so Im definitely interested in developments like this. The M47 contributes a couple of minutes to my exercise ring every day but still thinking about an upgrade lol
Ah thanks for joining along! 🙂
if i can weigh in. been through many grinders including economy home blade style to burr style to mazzer, gaggia etc. never had a single dose grinder or used one. i often just throw in enough beans for a single espresso into current grinder (ascaso i2) no scale, no fancy accessories, no dosing ring, no tamp mat, nor the pricey thing that evens out the coffee in basket before tamping. i use normal tamper and light gentle pressure to even out coffee. works great and i don't lose sleep over not knowing what % of a gram residual coffee is left in grinder. oh, if i know i will be making multiple drinks can fill hopper appropriately rather than repeating multiple single dose routines. i have never used a thermometer to steam milk but learned by listening to the sound and feeling the pitcher vibration. did cut off portafilter bottom to make bottomless.
I do like these tech talk style videos, it is getting very competitive in the sub $1200 grinder market which can only be good for consumers
Thanks for letting me know! And yes it is, and I’m loving it!
I saw this grinder in the flesh at the London Coffee Festival and it looks fantastic, very compact and superb build quality and the accessories are all magnetic to keep it all centered. Talked to the sales guy and he said it will be released in October. I have been holding off on a Niche to see what happened with the DF64 Mahlkonig X54 and this, if it works as good as it looks it's a winner.
price? is it better than specialita?
YAY!!!! More toys I can’t afford yet still like to hear about. Keep it up, Kyle.
Ha, thanks Tom.
Is there any information about the price available?
Can't wait! Really keen to buy my first grinder, was looking at the Ode, but was put off by the mess and grind size. Was keen on the Niche but I need it for pour over now and espresso later, would be nice if I didn't have to change the burrs
Love the content, looking forward to seeing you review this guys (twice the price and twice the weight of the Ode)
What did u decide on?
@@Daniel_Adam i bought fellow ode 1st gen from a fren, $250 aud, i figure if it last 5 yrs that's $1 a week
Eagerly anticipating this grinder. I went from a Mazzer Super Jolly to the Niche Zero. I like the Niche and work flow but I feel like with he conical burrs it mutes out a lot of potential flavor. I get good shots but with the Super Jolly I had some were GREAT. If the Eureka can essentially be a Niche but flat burrs, I'm sold. Looking forward to your reviews and perspective. I just hope it's available in North America soon. Heard it'll only be available in Europe come September. May take 6 months to a year before it's available around here
I hope this isn’t true! But time will tell!
I've always been using my perfetto as a single dose grinder. Even though it is not exclusively designed for that it works great and I'm very happy with the results. so I don't feel the need to upgrade at all. 😀 But if I didn't already have one of their grinders I'd definitely wait for this one to get.
do you use any mod for the single dosing?
@@pugiehobie No mod. I just close the little slider when the beans are below it to avoid popcorning.
@@chrisoe623 nice info, how much is the retention bro?
I’m a novice but don’t you need approximately 70 grams of coffee for a pot of coffee so as far as this grinder you can’t do a whole pot in 1 grind? Or am I wrong here thanks for the help
It seems like a very nice grinder. I am not sure if I like the switch. It is too little and the position is not intuitive. The touch screen with a simple on off button, or even the same timer option as what they have on the nose of the other Eurikas would be nice. You could switch it on and it stops automatically after x seconds. Moreover you could than still use it with a timer function without weighing. Now you definitely need a scale.
You pretty much just described the XL. Why not just go for that instead?
Are the burrs flat with the table, or angled with the chute?
I’m basically trying to see if a 3d printed bass for a silenzio would get me to a single dose
Kyle, is the Cafelat Robot review coming in anytime soon? I'm literally dying to see it
There should be a video in the next couple weeks
They did not mentioned the dosing cup diameter. Do you think it would be the commercial common 58mm?
Definitely the niche grinding adjustment setup is better, all on one ring say can see exactly where you are....
I'm in the market for a single dose flat burr grinder and definitely hope to see your review of it soon! I have this grinder and the P64 (significantly more expensive but oh so pretty!) on my list.
Nice video! Looks promising but eager to know how it performs and how does it fare compared to Niche Zero. When is the actual review going live?
Once I get a unit I’m my hands!
I'm stoked man. I mean, it may be a mouthful, but it's sick as a name. Just telling your friend, oh that's my Eureka Mignon Single Dose.
You can call it a Mignon SD. I'm assuming that's what most people will call it. haha
@@mattmakescovers thanks i'll call it Mignon SD ◡̈
I’ve tried to uncover a release date with no luck. Any insight?
Looking forward to some great looking single dose grinders coming out inspired to take on the Niche
I just bought a specialita and I can't see myself jumping to single dose one. Specialita is so good, that I don't see why to pay more money for a little jump in quality of brew, or a little difference in a brewing lifestyle.YES is looking nicer in this moment, but I have feeling that will age much faster in a style then older brothers.
Have you seen the new 2-in-1 pour-over and grinder from Gevi? Are you getting a review unit?
I have but I won’t be recieving one.
If it’s at or surpasses the niche and it across the board makes great coffee, I’m all for it!
Time will tell!
Hi, Great video! Wondering if I buy that or the Niche Zero. Did you ever did a test of the Mignon XL vs the Niche Zero ? I only brew espresso. Usually medium roast or light roast. Rarely dark roast.
Thanks!
Mignon because flat burrs are better for medium/light roast and the niche has conical burrs
Oh exciting! Maybe the option to replace my old (and very reliable but out of fashion) flat Burr Rancilio Rocky.
I’m in the market for a new grinder. A Niche would be perfect, but of course I can’t get one. A Lagom P64 is more than I want to spend, but I would get one if, again, I could get one. If this new mignon is, as you say, able to go from espresso to filter easily, and, I can get one, then it’s probably what I’ll get.
I'm excited! I have the silenzio and it's great, so too have one near specifically for how I want to use it is promising!
Do you know the price for this grinder? I think it looks way better than the Niche.
Niche is 499 pounds. Mingnon single dose is 495 pounds.
In my opinion - while this is called a "single dose" grinder - this is not comparable to the Niche Zero.
NZ will do a "zero retention" without any need for bellows. That, together with it's burr-set, simplicity, quietness and easy move between preparation methods - makes it a "high end product".
Any grinder trying to get to zero retention using extra steps/tools - is just not enough anymore (again - in my opinion).
Pros are definitely the flat burrs, but that's not new since DF64 was introduced.
I would have wished to see better engineering/designs that output the coffee directly, without the need for extra things (included to the product or not). Looks to me that Eureka just "wanted in" into the SD market quickly.
They have a million different models as well. Yee couple are great - but rest are just a waste. As will be this compared to the Niche.
I already have a specialita, but I would be interested in the hopper and blow up system (which is just a rubber ring) if it was still compatible with the specialita
Think you can get the hopper already
actually, yes, you can purchase a compatible bellow. I got mine (silicon rubber material) on etsy, but, i guess there is multiple options available.
@@KantiKDream I'm aware of these options but I was referring to the erueka version.
My biggest beef with the eureka specialty 75 besides not being single dose is the knob. The knob idea is great. Allowing it to have multiple turns nit so great. I bet this new grinder will work in a similar fashion.
Dis you try it VS the new Vario+ ?
I have a silencio(?). Will probably be selling it to pick up this grinder. Eureka's stuff is top notch.
Thanks for the comment!
Is the mignon single dose have very big difference compared to the ongoing mignon except for single dose and the angle?
Great video! Do we know what the price for this will be at launch? I haven’t been able to find anything on it yet :(
It’s rumoured for 599 euro
@@KyleRowsell It's not rumored, it's confirmed to be "a little bit less" than 600 euro.
From their official IG account:

@@RikardGeorgii there it is!
@@RikardGeorgii Thanks man! I didn't see that at the time of my comment so I appreciate the info! This is definitely a competitive price.
The knob for grind adjustment is larger so the range with a full rotation is therefore also larger.
since i have no hope of ever getting a niche, i hope this one comes out soon and is priced well
Thanks for watching!
Ive read in Eureka Facebook group, it’s going to be around 550-600 euro so about the same price of the XL.
@@yahyoh91 I’ve also heard similar pricing from eureka
A couple of thoughts. What if this adjustment knob has two positions for macro and micro adjustment? That would be perfect although not easy to go between espresso and filter without going back to a "zero" point. Other than that it seems like multiple rotations to switch brewing methods. And why do I feel that this grinder is secretly smart and paired with their grinder it can grind to a certain weight rather than being timer based?
How much did It cost?? I’m so excited!
599 euro is the rumoured price
Any idea when you’re gonna be able to get your hands on one yet?
I think one rotation dial would be a bad idea. Would make micro ajusting harder and give the grinder less resolution when the dial is so small and it's stepless. The niche works because the dial is massive, this one is super small. I'm really not a fan of 65mm burr size, wish it was just 64mm so I could easily throw some SSPs in to get super high unifromity. Other than that the grinder looks great, would be dope with variable RPM (like we see with the similarly priced kopi deva) but it's understandable that they did not do it
Interesting take! Absolutely valid. It’s a tough trade off as espresso adjustability would be affected if it was a single rotation (loosing the micro adjustments that are desired) but swapping from filter to espresso will be much more tedious.
@@KyleRowsell yeah, I feel like it could be done in a clean way if they somehow had a system for counting rotations, but I don't think they have
I have a mingon facile on the way as a budget option. Very curious to know what pricing will look like to be honest 🤔
I dont think you'd want every method on one rotation, or else you limit the grinder from having microadjustments. What you'd want is an indicator of which number of rotation you are at.
Interesting that the espresso grind is faster than the brew grind.
In January 2022 Eureka released the Mignon Zero & the Mignon Turbo. There are no It is getting increasingly complicated…
Any chance this thing costs less than 1000 USD?
This may work very well as a companion to the niche. Likely it’s flat burrs will be more ideal for lighter roasts.
I don’t like the mounting screw going through, and breaking up, the grinding blade surface. How can you claim to be zero retention when those screw holes will inevitably collect fines? I think all the zero retention flat burr manufacturers need to take inspiration from the top of the line Ceado E37Z-Hero Single Doser. Ceado figured out a way to build flat blades without mounting screw holes.
Which grinder do you recommend that is available now ?
Watch my next zero 2021 video. I cover this exact question 🙂
JUNE 2024 - EUREKA SD STILL WAY TOO MUCH VIBRATION. I purchased this grinder new in Australia. I had read all about the first batch's vibration issues, and that they'd been resolved. Sadly, these ORO Single Dose units still have 3-4 times the vibration of Eureka's upright grinders, even vs the XL with same 65mm burr set. I was shocked and disappointed, so I drove to the distributor to compare the Eureka range. The vibrations on their display Single Dose were almost as bad as the one shipped to me. I believe it is a fundamental flaw with the 15 degree tilt of the motor.
I have Mignon Specialita and DF 64 with SSP burs. For single shot DF is better. More easy to change dial grinding size. Eureka is nice looking but needs more time.
When will be release of this grinder ?
I’d rather get this inside EU than pay ton of import charges etc from UK (where niche is only sold). Paying so much vat and import taxes is deal breaker.
Seems a little better than the DF64
what's your impressions about goat story's arco 2-1 grinder?

I kinda fell in love with this one. I'm searching for my first grinder (just got my Gaggia Classic Pro) but prob buy Mignon/Notte/Manual...

I was planning to get the Specialita, but gotta hold on for this
I think you're not the only one.
Upgrading from specialita to this one for sure.
I'd wait for the first reviews of this one. There are already some 3d-printed bases and single-dose-hoppers for the specialita. Some ppl reported they get nearly zero retention (+-0.2g out) with single-dosing. So maybe it's worth just to buy some upgrades for your grinder if the grind quality is the same.
Hope I can get that bellows hopper for my mignon crono
I am very excited for this grinder. I currently own the Silenzio Baratza Virtuoso and I absolutely love both. But, I'm hoping that I can replace my current two-grinder setup with this and declutter my coffee station a little bit. I love the aesthetic, I love the specs, and I think the Mignon Single Dose is going to give the Niche Zero a run for its money.
Hi Kyle, thanks for this. I like the format. Eureka products intrigue me. Their history and commitment to keep improving the process. Love the ideas of this single dose grinder. I was ready to buy the Mignon Facile but I'll wait to see if I can swing this beauty
Can you do a review of the Espro Bloom?
Well I think this one is the one to go, because the Niche doesn’t ship to Puerto Rico.
It's very difficult to find inventory in Canada as well. I was interested but never been able to. Having more choice in the market will make it more accessible.

hmmmm interesting
I've been waiting for over a year for the niche but screw it. I'll but what is available.
As I've been using Eureka Mignon Silenzio, this tech talk interests me, and I have some thoughts about Eureka Single Dose which I would like you to examine them if you had a chance to test it. First, I've designed a blowing system for my grinder (Silenzio) but what I got is more like dust, and make the espresso harsh and bitter and hard to dial in. This make me dubious about the whole bellows idea. Second, even if the blowing system works great, there are at least 1 to 1.5 grams of coffee stuck in the burr and cylinder which is from the first dose after cleaning. It may affect the taste and dialing in. What I am curious about is that whether those grounds get stuck in the burrs and the chamber around them or not in this new design.
Niche was the starter, but unfortunally such a quality badly build machine. Other cheap Chinese build machines (who are easy available) are so much better and have a flatburr set
