I am struggling with this as a partner to someone with bpd. He has horrific child abuse stories...he was in foster care his entire childhood. I can confirm his birth parents were both unstable. I can confirm his attachment issues are intense and it flips into you being the abuser in their mouth during an episode...but lying to another about what I did with me as the abuser?!?!!! That happens?!?! If very common, that is concerning.

The evidence in the trial if you listen seems to suggest that Johnny is lying about the finger.
      1. The doctor pointed out that his fingernail was not injured at all. This is impossible if it was hit while resting on a surface .
      2. The doctor pointed out that in his medical records by Johnny's doctor, no glass was removed from anywhere on his hand and no cuts anywhere else on his hand.
      3. Amber believes he cut his finger smashing a phone made to look old fashioned on the wall. It was made of hard plastic .if being smashed it would have produced sharp shards. This makes more sense to the injury being under the finger nail.
      4. He tried to lie about smashing the phone and was caught lying about it. He had admitted already to this phone crushing In the UK trial. Why attemp to lie in this trial?.
      5. He wants to blame Amber for the finger injury ,because he wants an exuse for all the demented evidence of painting on furniture, lamp shades ,mirrors, art work. Ect. Crazy behavior. This is an event that Amber claims he raped her with a bottle. He desperately needs to explain his crazy painting up the house, otherwise her story could be believable. His state of mind does not look good.
      6. He told his doctor that HE cut his finger.. He also texted a friend and said the same thing. But the real kicker is that in a recording with Amber, with just the 2 of them in the room, he was talking about this Australian event and clearly said he cut his finger off. No way would he have not pointed out to her that she was the one who cut his finger. They were discussing each other's failings at the time. It would have matched the conversation if he told her that she cut his finger.
      7. In another conversation recorded, Amber says to Johnny that he needs to find someone else to put out his cigarettes on. Why is she saying this? I think Johnny has burnt himself with cigarettes before. I think he did it himself. He has these pictures
Of finger and burn, he needs to explain them. He lied about the phone, he's lying about the finger and burn. other evidence suggests this.
      8. I would like to point out that I believe he concocted this story by observing pics of the scene where the bloody tissue is laying on the floor next to the bar. That's why he thought up the story of being sitting there when it happened. But one needs to ask ,where did he get the tissue from? His pocket? There was no tissue or paper towels visible on bar in picture. He more than likely retrieved it from somewhere else. Therefore if he was sitting in that spot when hit he more than likely had to move from that spot to get the tissue. What are the odds that it ends up in the spot where he can prove his story of sitting at the bar ,in that spot. It's more likely that that's just where he dropped the bloody tissue before starting his painting spree. The story was concocted to match the pic where the bloody tissue was left.
I look at the evidence....I don't believe him.

I threw one plastic water bottle, once, and I was shocked and horrified at myself. I did it bc I felt so betrayed, hurt, and disappointed and I'd been getting yelled at for over a full hour. My ex had gone off his meds and was having a full on meltdown. After all his promises, couples therapy and getting a diagnosis for him, and having months and months of a wonderful loving husband, he went off his meds.

Imo, it makes sense that he did because maybe he thought that was the next step.
      (Edit: its distorted thinking)
' Things were going so well, what's the harm of not taking meds and living like this without a "crutch" '?
      Just my opinion.
I can't say I understand the weight but sometimes so much responsibility over a period of time can be burdensome and all you want to do is relax on that weight and responsibility only this action of him not taking his meds is irresponsible.
Who knows what the husband has but you; and it's good you checked yourself because an action will always trump a word; even a set of words.
(Although I understand that words can be triggering you and constsnt berating can be utterly obnoxious, nauseating, and destressing. It still doesn't justify physical action unless it restricts a person doing harm to one's self or another and even then... )
Throwing things isn't good. It's matching a man with self-control & mental issues; who is having a meltdown that he cannot control.
You both can't be having a meltdown.
      You might have to de-personalize.
Even if you have to take a break and refrained from the stress, it's much better to strategize to a better option.
Despite you both being together he has problems that are his responsibility & you you're responsibility. It's one thing to affirm your life nut have boundaries for when he does stuff like this.

This perfectly describes my mother whenever she has an episode. It confused me like no other when I was a kid because she would tell me all she wanted was a hug, but kid me was afraid of her because she was screaming at me, putting me down or saying I didn't love her, physically threatening me or throwing things at me, etc., It's a little difficult, especially as a child, to look at that and conclude that you should approach that person and give them a hug.

I think in this particular case, it would be useful for you to check out the recording made after the incident. it wasn't allowed in the trial because there are more voices on the recording aside from Amber's, including from one of Johnny's bodyguards who has passed away since then and so wouldn't have been able to be called to testify. On the recording, Amber admits to causing his finger injury. Which makes the story she tells on the stand during this trial even crazier than it already was to begin with.

His description of what he felt immediately after he lost his finger is relatable. I went through a glass window and I didn't think I got cut until I felt warmth almost hot all over my arms then I felt dripping from my finger tips. I looked down and my arms were covered in blood.

Same. A radio antenna fell on my forehead from 15-20 feet height. Cut skin, dented bone, but all i felt was a flush of heat and the tickle of the blood trickle. No actual pain until many hours later.

    • @anonanon7067
      @anonanon7067 2 роки тому +2

Yeah, I cut my head open with a pair of non-thinned-down glasses that sliced into it just above my eye/by my eyebrow when I didn't slow down when I skied down a slope and skied straight into the sign for the ski lift, very fast, hitting it with my head, hahaha. I remember my first feeling was "How embarrassing!" until I noticed the snow was all covered in blood and then I felt heat rather than cold. And I certainly didn't immediately feel pain. In fact, I am sure I felt pain at some point, but I don't recall ever feeling pain at the time (in recovery, yes - pain then). I recall feeling sick, but not pain.
Incidentally, I also crushed my fingers once - albeit it was only the tips. My Mum and I had a taxi booked that was arriving soon and were off on a trip and she said "Oh, will you just go and get some change from the car in case we need it?" so I ran out, opened the garage, got the change and I was in a rush as I knew the taxi was coming soon, so instead of closing the garage at first from the inside and then by the handle on the outside, I just shoved all 8 fingers between the slats on the garage door and pulled down... only then realsing what an idiot I was as the folding kind of accordion door situation obviously closed on all 8 fingers and not only was it very painful, but my first thought was how was I going to get out of this as I was obviously also now stuck with both hands and couldn't move the door to get my fingers out. It was very painful, but no blood. I lost feeling in all my fingertips for a month or so.
I mention that as oh no Doctor Honda, Amber does not agree with events here at all. It is one of the things I find most troubling about this case - there is I think zero common ground and their stories are simply 100% opposite.
I am not sure which Amber's team alleges happened here, but I know there has been talk of:
      - Johnny crushed his finger in accordion doors (like his initial lie, hence my sharing my experience of that kind of injury)
      - Johnny crushed his own finger with an antique phone (I haven't seen any photos of said phone, so not sure of any more details)
      - Johnny cut off his own finger (with a knife?)

Whitney’s boss/friend Jennifer Howell is set to testify that Whitney told her (and others in the office) that she was trying to prevent Amber from hitting Johnny in that incident. That completely lines up with Johnny’s story and that if others present at the time. I only caught some of what he said, but what I did was infuriating.
He commented about Depp taking 45 mg of Adderall/day and that exceeding the max dose which meant he couldn't be taking it for ADHD (Dr also failed to mention at any point that Depp HAS ADHD). And, yes, it's technically true that exceeds the max dose for an adult of 40 mg/day BUT max dose recommendations aren't absolutes. Dr's have the discretion to exceed them and routinely do, it's not particularly uncommon there is just likely more precautions (for example, I'm on a medication that can be increased beyond the max dose but you need to have an EKG to make sure the increase is safe). It's similar to off-label usages - technically they aren't "recommended" but they are very common and legitimate applications.
He also said Depp was taking downers of some sort along with his "uppers" (aka his ADHD meds) and that again this was evidence of abuse and not legit treatment. But, again, it isn't that uncommon to be given some type of anti-anxiety medication to take with Adderall bc it can significantly increase anxiety. That is absolutely not the PREFERRED treatment, you should attempt to find an ADHD treatment with manageable side effects that don't necessitate additional medication but it's hardly unheard of. I know people who have ADHD meds prescribed and also take Xanax to manage the anxiety resulting from their ADHD medication.
The "expert" they had today seemed particularly eager to label everything as abuse/addiction instead of legitimate medical treatment while most responsible medical specialists are very cautious about labeling people that way. It doesn't help anyone to demonize pharmaceutical treatment of legitimate medical conditions. Your life won't be better by refusing to take medication you need.

Because her entire Australia narrative happened before that audio recording.

Then the butler says he found the finger in the bar not thr kitchen. But he brought it to the doctor in the kitchen.
So then she says some magical phone on a wall no one else saw did it. JD to himself. Yet also told a friend JD did it to himself with the bottle. Lots of versions from AH but JD did it to himself in all of them. JDs story hasn't changed. And they say oh well he said he cut his finger off. Yah I say I broke my arm. They had a Dr. testify today that his injury is inconsistent with a bottle hitting it and more consistent with it being jammed in accordion doors which I believe Depp told the first Dr is how it happened. However,
-Depp said he lied to the first Dr bc he didn't want to admit Amber did it initially
      - I have a background in physics and the Dr's argument against the bottle throw involves several massive assumptions about the angle the bottle hit his finger that there simply isn't evidence to support
      - The accordion door version would be Heard's team's 3rd story of the injury (he cut it off himself in the kitchen with a knife, he did it while smashing up the phone there's no evidence existed, smashed it in accordion doors)
      - Ben King found the finger in the bar area which is consistent with Depp's version or Heard's phone smashing version (although several people dispute her claim the phone existed - including Ben King who took care of the insurance claims from the damage - and no one has corroborated her claim).

I can see JD shouting at her, maybe saying the worst things he can think of, and her getting very angry and defensive, suddenly going on the attack again with the cigarette, then rapidly switching back to guilt/fear of abandonment hours or minutes later. I believe she was also on multiple substances, so that helps a bit to explain the extremity of her actions.

So, my personal experience of growing up with a parent that has BPD. Yes they absolutely have empathy, sometimes so much so that it can trigger an episode of extreme behaviour. However. What i have found is that what they do lack primarily, is the ability to shift perspectives which will definitely supplant empathy until such a time the perspectives can align once again. I was literally post surgical in the hospital, surrounded by a team of cardiovascular specialists trying to get my blood pressure to go above 40/20, basically trying to keep me alive after a very bad reaction to the anesthetics, and my husband had to physically block my mother from entering the hospital because she wanted to finish an argument that we had the day prior. And it was one of the most ridiculous arguments you could possibly imagine, that matters not at all by the end of the day, but she STILL was so DESPERATE to convince me of her point of view that I was in the wrong a day and a half later, when all indications were I was unlikely to make it through the night, that she had to be blocked from the hospital for a full three days before she could be let in to see me. All because we had disagreed as to what time to put the roast in the oven. BPD people dont have normal arguments. They have existential crises pitting them against a world of "enemies" conjured up of loved ones, which supercedes all other normal human emotions they also have. Crazy shit.

Today’s psychiatrist also said perpetrators don’t seek treatment, “they just don’t do it.” He said that with no qualification, no hedge, no “typically don’t seek treatment.” I found that disturbing. And his statement that a person with a “substance abuse disorder” in combination with a “cluster b” personality disorder would absolutely abuse their partner also seemed like an extreme position. Not “almost all” but every person who fit that profile has to be an IPV abuser. Thank goodness the judge didn’t let him answer whether or not drawing sketches in court and eating candy denoted a narcissistic personality disorder. I shudder to think of what he might have said.

again I have to appreciate that you're looking at this unbiased that's really amazing :) about the recording after the incident and that she probably is not psychopathic, I don't know if she is or not of course, just for a thought because you have much better consideration of this stuff, there were writings on the mirror made right after the bottle incident. most of them are from Johnny, first by blood, later by paint also. but there is a message written with lipstick as well... she denied writing that, Johnny said she did, but what the message said and "the tone" of it to me, very biased human, is obviously from her. what is interesting about it is, some of Johnny's writings are below the lipstick one, some are above.... which would mean he left a message by blood, she responded, and he wrote also a response to her. her response was sarcastic and mocking. it would suggest that it happened after the finger incident and she felt no remorse at all. only snapped seemingly out of it with people coming to the house. I have borderline but is being managed, and I can say that when I get extremely hurt and angry, I can think of a million hurtful things to do to my partner. I've heard of someone pressing a cigarette on a man before, it's not so uncommon. I myself think of grabbing a knife, strangling my partner, setting the house on fire, hitting, kicking, getting a lamp, a rock, a chair to throw at his head and just basically going extremely crazy. Now, I DON'T do it, luckily I still have the urge to stop. I mostly hurt myself, not my partner. I think it is possible that a person who has borderline or just have extreme anger can definitely harm a person. It's interesting bec you said "what if there's a gun?!" that is exactly why me and my partner do not have a gun even if we live in a farm, because we both know I can be extremely impulsive and angry. It's also possible that Johnny was able to hit Amber, but out of pure frustration or temptation. I basically challenge my partner to hit me or hurt me, go straight at their face, spitting air and screaming "HIT ME!" while I hit him myself. It's possible Johnny was cornered and had no way out but to hit back or push back. My partner is very kind and patient, he is not violent at all. He rarely screams or even gets angry, but I can say and do stuff that can trigger and corner him to the point that he finally gets angry.
So I can say, being borderline, these are possible scenarios.
I am glad I am not as miserable and out of control as before, and I am finally understanding how to manage my emotions and not hurt my partner. Being the borderline, I can say that the thoughts of hurting my partner hurts me, and the memories of when I would force him or urge him to hit me was me being so miserably in pain that I just wanted someone to end the pain or kill me. It's NOT FUN to have borderline, but therapy helps a lot.
Many borderline survivors or partners hate us who have borderlines and it hurts to see so many people hate us. We hate our disorder too, and most of us wantto live a normal life. We struggle with it everyday, we get triggered by the simplest sigh or sound or gesture, and we don't even want to! No person wants to live a life of anger and resent. We want a life where we can feel safe and not hurt every day or every hour. Please do not incorporate every borderline as Amber Heard or at least give us a chance by encouraging us to seek therapy. My partner and I are still together, and he doesn't hate me at all. He knows I am trying everytime I get angry to stop my mouth from saying mean stuff and to try to calm down. We got married and tothis day he still loves me and is patient with me.

@@janine7070 Thank you for understanding, although I would also say that My partner probably deserves more recognition than me as he is very patient and tried hard to research and understand borderline personality disorder. When Dr. Kirk said borderline peeps have empathy, I can definitely agree to that. I am very hyper sensitive. Everyday if my partner does something slightly less sweet, my brain will immediately think that something is wrong. "Is it me? what did I do? is he mad? does he hate me? He doesn't love me, he will leave me, he's thinking of leaving me." These are thoughts that arise, and then of course when thoughts come, the feeling of rejection comes after. Our pain is not the same as others. We feel extreme pain. A sadness for a normal person might be just sad, but for us it is extreme wallowing depression. Getting rejected for a normal healthy person might hurt, but for us it is like someone just told us we should just disappear. It's very intense, and it sucks, and sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in pain just because, for example, my partner just said, "mornin" to me instead of "Good morning, my love." A slight difference, barely noticeable, and if it is true my partner isn't in the mood, I might not even be the cause of it. Maybe he just had a bad sleep, or is feeling sad over something else. My partner used to get a little annoyed when I ask him, "what's wrong? is something wrong? Tell me what's wrong?" whenever he said something suspiciously sad. But now he understands that from a borderline's point of view I am basically saying, "Something is wrong!!!! help me!!! tell me everything is okay because I am so fucking scared right now!!!"
As a background story: my trauma came from my parent's separation. My father left us, cheated on my mom. My mom herself has borderline traits, & my father claimed she was "crazy and neurotic." I have social anxiety and bpd from moving to schools, being always the new kid, being rejected by people around me, being blamed for me being my father's daughter, my mom saying I am "just like your father."
Healing takes time. I still ask my partner what is wrong whenever I feel scared, but instead of believing there is something wrong, I allow my partner to say that nothing is wrong and to BELIEVE that in fact, everything is okay and if not, that I am brave enough to face whatever is "wrong" or scary in my eyes.
I heard an audio clip of Amber feeling miserable and saying, "I just wanted to touch you." to Johnnu depp. Some of the clips from her made me shiver, it almost felt like the words I use when I am so miserably in pain. If Amber does have borderline, she is probably extremely miserable and living a life like that is difficult and lonely. We borderlines say we dont want to get abandoned, and yet we do things that drive our partners to leave. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. Although Amber and I are not the same, I can sense that Amber is in pain, in her own ways. I hope that she will find and accept treatment, bec only if she trully opens up to therapy and healing will she finally slowly stop hurting herself and the people around her.

lies are usually very confusing because they don't line up with reality. I don't wish the worst for her tho I believe the hate she's receiving must be a lot and probably the way she is that's probably the worst punishment she could get. although I hope someone helps her and she can raise her child to be happy and not miserable like she is. and maybe some day she will apologise, who knows and honestly if that day would come, I would wish for the Internet to accept it along with johnny of course :) and stop the hate. I would accept it now and would spread support for her now if she'd came up during the trial, told the truth and apologised.

She does refute this story. She claimed that he took his own finger off by smashing a plastic beside her head; until it disappeared. He supposedly held her by the neck with the other hand. After the phone was demolished, he assaulted her with a bottle (broken?) while continuing to hold her neck. What truly disturbs me is that, after she took off his finger tip, she put a cigarette out on his face. She didn't feel any remorse. She wanted more pain for him. He is lucky to have survived his marriage to her.
Edit: Just finished watching the whole video. The reason why people are only talking about it now is because this is the first time it's (S.A.) been accepted in court. This is one of the two stories not accepted in the UK. Even though the judge's son worked for the defendant, he did not believe AH's story (which was stolen from her assistant).
The whole story that AH claims is so incredibly out there. Main stream media only presents AH's version. Honest to goodness, people actually think that he has hit her

Do you believe Johnny about the cigarette burn? I think I do. His voice was shaking as he described it, and it was something he didn't even remember to mention until hs saw the picture of himself in the hospital. Like, "oh yeah, forgot to mention this other thing". That does ring true for me.
But also, could he have stubbbed it out on his own face, while he was out of his head so much that he was writing insults and lies Amber had told him on the walls using his bleeding stump as a paintbrush? Maybe. That's not a rational act in itself. While in pain and shock, he could have stubbed it out on his own face, if he didn't have any other place to put it. I don't know though, was he even smoking a cigarette down there in the bar?

Oh, she loved him in this moment in court, absolutely. I saw that, it seemed clear. I don't know if she felt bad in that moment, but she does love him. Dr Kirk, thanks for another great video. It would be great if you could do a video (or just reply here) explaining mutual abuse/bidirectional partner abuse. I have been following the trial and trying to understand if this was a case of mutual abuse or, as Dr Hughes suggested, there is no such thing as mutual abuse, only an abuser and a victim who might sometimes engage in reactionary violence. If one person initiates the violence/abuse, say 70-80% of the time and is responsible for the more severe abuse, and the other person maybe initiates arguments, let's say 20% of the time and participates in some form of violence but isn't the one who typically escalates it, would that be an instance of one person always being the abuser and the other always the victim (who may sometimes fight back or even initiate arguments), or is it a case of two abusers and two victims in the relationship, maybe swapping roles at different times? What role does control play in this and is it possible for one person to be the more controlling one even if the other person has more power, wealth or status in society? What if both people try to control their partners in different ways? Thanks for any help you can give, I am really struggling to understand these concepts.

So years of EMS into RN and I'm not understanding how having a severe laceration would also involve a crush injury from a single blunt force incident. I've seen a lot of injuries and messed up hands, but that one simply doesn't quite fit with the narrative. My only bet given that I only watch Dr. Honda's videos is this: She threw the bottle, it sliced open/off his finger. Further trauma was then inflicted on his finger bone - and perhaps the one under it -when he was writing in blood. I'm just gonna guess he wasn't writing things calmly - which fair enough.
I haven't seen the trial outside of Dr. Honda's take so I have no idea what other evidence is out there. But does anybody know? A crush injury is very specific and not usually on par with single blunt force event involving lacerations - not on an extremity anyway. Any other med folks out there who have seen something like this? Also I'm genuinely asking this question in good faith, not trying to make it him vs her. It just seemed really off to me that crushed "bones" - as in multiple - would be the result of this single incident.

Your description of an abusers ability to realize they crossed a line is so accurate. They are capable of feeling empathy and remorse at times, i think thats also part of why it can be so confusing as a victim because they rarely take accountability, they rarely apologise, so to see genuine remorse every once in a blue moon is like a beacon of hope. I remember when my ex cut me with a knife because he went too far in his "joke" to intimidate me and the immediate turnaround from laughing maniacly at my terror to suddenly seeing what he had done when he saw the blood left me with whiplash. One minute, he's terrorizing me the next he's profusely apologizing and feeling absolutely terrible. It was the same thing when he was in a fit of rage and threw a metal object that shattered my fish tank and sent my pet fish flying. If only he could have shown empathy every time he hurt with me cruel words and not just physically 😅
