I really enjoy your reviews. You are one of the best in the business. It's great to see better and better EV products coming into the market that are more affordable than the usual offerings that too often exceed 60k. I like the Mokka overall between these two in terms of design since the Kona is looking a little dated, but it sounds like the KIA would win in the daily-livability category. Also, love the fact that both of these cars are offered in real color options instead of the typical slab of mundane greys I see everywhere. Greys, blaaaah. Great review!
I agree with what others have said -- your reviews are absolutely top notch, no nonsense and knowledgeable. I slightly favour the Kia, but prefer the Mokka in terms of its style, particularly interior design. I'm not ready for an EV yet, waiting for the infrastructure to catch up a bit -- and see what Tesla do in terms of giving other brands access to their charging network.
A great, no-nonsense back-to-back comparison test, Vicky - thank you. But, I think you missed something...? At about 02:40 in, you state that you'd "talk about the real-world range a bit later when we've driven them some more..." but, unless I zoned-out and missed it - you didn't...? 🤔
I test drove both, as well as the id3 and Ioniq and bought the Mokka 😎... value for money, none of the others came close! After having the mokka for about 3 months I LOVE all the standard 'extras', find the driving position really comfortable, the screen layout and positioning are perfect. Things I DON'T LIKE are how the range estimator can't be trusted 🤯 and the big bonnet is a waste of space in an EV... apart from that really good car 😎
Useful information but I think I'll wait until the ORA Cat arrives in the UK and see what it gives, that is if I convert to an EV - still on the fence.
What's amazing about the Kona winning this round is that it's practically an antique in the world of EVs. Both the Kona and Niro were released back when a 50kw charger was the standard. Hyundai and Kia have done a fantastic job with the cars in terms of updating them with driver technology.
@@interceptor-ss8kb I’m happily driving a soulless box. Boring to look at but not boring to own. I prefer it to the MK2 Audi TT Quattro that we own. I respect your opinion but all EVs we test drove recently are far from soulless.
@@interceptor-ss8kb the Niro and Kona are true commuter cars. Nothing fancy, reasonably comfortable and relatively efficient. If I want fun to drive, I jump in my 71 Super Beetle or my 74 Karmann Ghia.
@@patrickrea6574 you can own a commuter without it being dull. I wouldn't want to do a days work come out to the works carpark and see something which ain't going to put a smile on my face
There is no mention of Hyundai discontinuing the Kona EV from their domestic market and no mention of the UK critical recall for Kona EVs regarding the battery catching fire whilst charging. Has this issue been resolved and are vehicles still being recalled in the UK due to the dangerous issue with the batteries?
At peak, the Kona can receive at over 70kW/h when the state of charge is low and the battery warm. It will not sustain that level, few cars have a linear charging curve. It also requires a charger that can offer the higher rate of charge.; these are progressively becoming more common but are still few and far between in the UK, where most rapid chargers still can’t deliver above 50kW/h.
Mokka .....When you switch off for example lane assist the buttons illuminate as do other similar buttons. Gotta say that is quite backward and strange imo Also in place of lumbar support you do get a driver massage seat in the top models
I note that you do not mention the MG ZS EV which for the same money has a bigger battery, a longer range of 273 miles and so makes it superior to those on test
Typical badge snobbery in the review. MG ZSEV is not even mentioned as a competitor. Similar price, more space, more range. Great to drive but no mention.
Car gurus can't stop there vauxhall biast I don't think I have seen any of there double test that a vauxhall as come out on top I knew her choice half way through this vid just by her lack of enthusiasm with the mokka her voice was droneing on boreing
No I think your wrong the Mokka is the better car due to the lane assistance on the Kona being so aggressive, also far the Mokka is much smoother on the roads
There's a button to turn the lane assist off in the Kona too. Something I do as soon as I get in. It's brilliant on the right road (motorway and a roads), where it will practically self drive.
@@matpat2636 I dont know but suspect when turning off lane assist in the Kona that the light goes off unlike the Mokka n Corsa the light then illuminates as do other switches Bit odd
I would love to know what she drives, as every EV review she does it's always the negative, yes I know she has to do that but every car she does, does not appear have any positives?
Bmw i3s top ev yet they're ceasing production these suvs are way too big n way too expensive when are they ever going to make practical sensible sized ev's
Actually to be honest it’s got to be said, the ‘background musak’, is awful in fact to be honest and, it has to be said that it completely spoiled an otherwise informative review …isn’t it windy no it’s Thursday, shut gob and put the kettle on.
We have bought the Mokka e and have to say it’s wonderful.
I just ordered the mokka, how's the range 2 months in?

Are the seats comfy? I do a lot of driving and have the corsa e. Find it uncomfortable
Really helpful video. Good job.
Mokka is just great. I bought it in Nov 21. Still great. Green color and it's design make it the best small crossover of 2021. Really.
Useful information but I think I'll wait until the ORA Cat arrives in the UK and see what it gives, that is if I convert to an EV - still on the fence.
Great review again from this lady👍👌 oh gosh that child lock in mocks is genius..

Another excellent and informative review. many thanks.
Amazing how the Kona is still leading after being out for so long. Shame they didn't refresh the interior.

i believe the kona is capable of DC 77kW instead of 50kW as mentioned

That's for the bigger battery.
We're test driving a Kona 64kWh Premium on Friday and unless something is badly amiss we'll be taking it home. 🙂

Ordered ours on Thursday top model mokka e 7 month wait
At 1:47 am I correct in saying that Vicky doesn't notice the holder for the charger cap?
The body color (blue...) of that Hyundai Kona Electric model is very fine, fits well!.😍Wow!.👍🏼😉
Mokka is better looking than most cars so i would buy mokka
But 201 “official” range on a cold winters day with heater on etc ?

Don’t buy Vauxhall only deliver half the suggested mileage range and electric traction control system kept jumping on red light avoid

Getting in the back of a Mokka isn't that easy apparently
suspension is my number 1 criteria, so it means that Kona is off.
Love Vicky's reviews, but we're missing the promised real world range and efficiency comparison.....
I liked them both, but which would you choose? Hahaha
I would love to know what she drives, as every EV review she does it's always the negative, yes I know she has to do that but every car she does, does not appear have any positives?
She had an e-Niro for a while. Not sure that her reviews are negative, just well balanced. TBH I get the impression Vicky is a big proponent of EV's.
The Hyundai is better
still waiting to see how they tax these EVs hmmm
£37k - £40k now 😂
Mokka, cheap and (shockingly) not nasty. Kona, cheap and... Well, just look at it.🤮

Hyundai over Opel any time👍👍
I would rather have warts then have either a Mokka, ID3 or Kona. They literally have no soul at all just as dull as anything
