    Great review...Thank you!
    We have had our 2023 Kona Ultimate EV (first EV) for 10 days now and have put 1800km's on it. We love it! Back seat room sucks but there is just my wife and I and neither one of us is riding back there. This car puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
    The VW ID was on our radar but impossible to get in Canada...plus I am not a fan of too much touch screen stuff so the Kona wins there by being more like a regular car. Seating, ride and handling are superb - really happy with it.
    Home charging is very economical, charging to 90% from 20% cost us about $4 (.08 cents a kwh between 7pm and 7am)...so running cost is about .01 cent per KM. Our Toyota RAV4 is about .16 cents per KM at current fuel costs here.
    Anyway...great video and Thank you for it!

    I obviously missed this video when you made it, but perhaps it was meant to be because I've just ordered a face-lift Kona (would you believe that the date for delivery is December or January!!!), so I've watched this at exactly the right time. Your videos are sooo different to all others and I think they're brilliant. You certainly picked up on several things that I missed (like the hard plastic on the door armrest - oh well, disappointing but I still agree with you that it's a great car).
    I chose the Kona over other cars (iD3, Zoe) because it has adjustable lumbar support. I have back problems, so adjustable lumbar support is so important to me.
    I was really looking forward to the release of the iD3 because I thought that the eGolf was such a good car. I was sure that the iD3 would set the benchmark for all future EVs, so I was a bit disappointed that some features of the Golf were missing from the iD3.
    As I missed this video initially, I'm going to see if you've made one on the face-lift Kona exclusively. Keep up the great work.

    Good review. Upgrading from an Ioniq28 costing £20k. A £30k+ ev is just too expensive if you use finance. So a used Kona or id3 are similar price in £20-30k price bracket. Kona Premium SE will be different from rest of range. Would only get Premium SE for spec.

    Great review, very objective, no hyperbole. Seems very little to choose between them, maybe depends on your brand association or loyalty. I like that the id3 you can simply jump in and go, and that the seating for a tall person (me) looks more accommodating. Thanks again great review,am sure you could have made it much longer (ie too long). Would be interested in your own 'scoring' of them n/10 for space, comfort,features, driving etc

    My lease on my current car (Ioniq) is ending soon so I'm looking for a replacement. Both the Kona and ID.3 are available to me and in my top 3 (the other being the Zoe). I'm leaning towards the Kona as for some bizarre reason VW has left the gear selector on the right hand side of the dash display for British cars. For the majority of drivers this isn't an issue, but it is for me because I'm disabled. However, with that being said I will be trying all 3 cars and see how I get along with them before making a decision.

      I had the Kona and have to say it’s a brilliant car with fantastic range the “GOM” - Guess o Meter - is very accurate. We changed last year to the E Niro for the extra rear legroom and boot space. Yesterday the GOM with 100% charge stated 313 miles and it was accurate to within 2 mile. The Kona being smaller and lighter will go even further. Now the Hyundai Kona Electric is fitted with the same batteries as the Kia E Niro.

    These two models were also the ones to choose from in October 2020 when I was about to purchase my next car. The conclusion then was that it's the choice between better electric efficiency, bullet proof technology (Kona) vs. excellent driving characteristics (steering, lack of torque steering, suspension), so much more leg room, quieter cabin, bigger trunk, "EV only" platform, not an ICE conversion (ID.3). The choice was very easy and I ended up to ID.3 :-) I probably could have lived with all the other things in Kona, but the steering and suspension are light year behind when compared to ID.3.

    We currently have an ID3 Life Pro Performance, which we are now selling to get the Kona as its available on our car scheme so works out cheaper.

  • @johannesmuller8214
    @johannesmuller8214 2 роки тому +8

    The main problem of the ID.3 is, that it's a VW. After my Passat, with manipulated Diesel engine and all the trouble with it, I'm finished with those cheaters. The people forget to fast, that is the big luck for VW.

    • @johannesmuller8214
      @johannesmuller8214 2 роки тому +1

      @timemachine_194 your completely right. I judge the people for what they do or did. An therefore Mr Diess sits in the same boat like Mr Winterkorn. VW only paid for their crimes because they had been sentenced to do so. They wouldn't have paid a penny, also under the reign of Diess, as an initiative from themselves. It's really sad to see what is the outcome of this multi billion dollar project. The interior of the ID.3 reminds me about my 90s plastic Revell Modells of ww2 ships. The screens are a utter joke. The functionality and the handling of the software is awful, not to speak about the until today unsolved bugs. VW is not able to deliver every single car with the latest software, so you can expect that every car has his own special bugs, wich is also a nightmare for the mechanics. The worst part for me is the energy consumption, it's way to high. Especially when it comes to a long range trip on the autobahn with a 140 kmh average, but also in the city, you will need at least 30% more than with the kona f. e. and that car was originally designed for petrol and diesel engines. I really had expected more from the BEVs from VW, but if even the Chinese are not willing to buy that German quality product, there a obviously some serious problems with it, because diesel gate was never a theme there.

  • @andreirevenco

    An interesting summary thank you! Having seen quite a few reviews of both the Kona and the ID3 I am surprised that no mention is ever made of a specific practicality - neither car can tow, but both can have an 'accessory hitch' fitted to allow use of a towbar mounted bike carrier. In addition, whilst the ID3 cannot have any roof load, the Kona is fitted with roof bars and has 80kg permitted roof load. For me this is important as, for example it would allow me to occasionally carry my kayaks which would be impossible with the ID3.

    • @CaroAbebe
      @CaroAbebe 2 роки тому

      Another practicality issue doesn’t get mentioned: the Kona doesn’t handle the snow well, snow and uphill is a disastrous combination. The ID.3, being an electric RWD, is a much better choice if you live in a mountainous region with lots of snow. So, Eddie Sugar, you’re quite right, for your use case the Kona is the better choice. For mine, it’s the ID.3. Since Chris can’t cover every single use case out there, we’ll still have to make further inquiries in order to find a car that meets our needs ;-)

      @timemachine_194 All the 7.9s-100kph are probably all quoted directly from Hyundai's own literature which is well known to be woefully inaccurate as evidenced by this guys own findings lol. A bit like BMW, Audi and Merc who generally under promise and over deliver on performance figures.
      7.6-100kph measured how? with what equipment and SOC?
      Lighter version, explain please?
      Pulled 177kw where on what dyno? All dynos read differently and EV's are notoriously difficult to dyno. Bjorn also tested the ID3's which presumably where all special "tuned" press cars and they where all slower than the Kona. You Can't have it both ways.
      I know of no aftermarket tuners for Kona's for power gains or any other mass produced EV if that were the case all Tesla's would be 1000hp, even the guy from the Tesla Racing Channel can't and he races for money, happy to be proved wrong.
      FYI. You can watch all of these for yourself on UA-cam and before you get carried away with thinking they are special press cars there really is no such thing anymore especially at this end of the market in fact if a press car has got 15,000k's, add another 0 because it's been ragged to death by jerno's.
      Alex from YT channel Alex on Autos(Old Kona, crap tyres) claimed a 6.4-60mph TC on consistently and 6.2 TC off after some trail and error runs, he also said he felt it could be even quicker with better tyres. Although I confess I can't confirm method of measurement, I will assert he would be using a credible timing device.
      PDriveTV. Racelogic Vbox Sports (Old Kona, crap tyres) 6.86-100kph
      Car & Driver (World renowned media). Racelogic Vbox(New Kona) 6.4 0-60mph

      Sorry guys I've nothing against the ID3 in fact I really like it and in the wet it would wipe the floor with the Kona without a doubt as the Kona handles like a boat but off the lights in the dry the Kona will leave an ID3. I'm waiting for the Cupra Born 236hp then it's game over Kona :)
