This one is sad because I also lost my husband 5 years ago and I live alone with 2 horses and 10 cats on a farm and I take care of all it myself. My 2 girls are to busy and have their own life's to come and visit. But this video shows reality as sad as it is. I would hate for squatters to come in my home and destroy it or anybody else who has bad intentions. I told my girls when ever it comes my time to make sure they go in and get whatever they want as soon as possible. Of course I have given a lot of my valuables to them already. I try not to accumulate anything. Less stuff to take care of and more time to do the things I enjoy! Luv u much! Another good video. Thanks to u both.

How sad I feel at the moment. Homeless people when staying in another person's home should and probably do know not to create such a mess. The house is abandoned true but it deserves respect. It shields then from the wind, rain, snow, and sun. Perhaps gave them a sense of security while they slept. Yet everything was treated with callous disrespect. This home was once loved. It houses some unique items. Thank you for showing it to us all. Be safe my friends and I'm waiting for the next adventure.

Hi Maureno from super team Explomo, I agree to you, that seeing these traces of trashing and messed up spots in that house is
actually not only horrible but also very sad. I nearly got tears only by watching. - So it was such a treat to see on the other hand
the time capsule like living room with some well preserved and nice furniture. - I also loved how highly respectful you were,
when approaching in your comment the life of the former inhabitants of this location. - Very well presented!! - I loved listening
to you once more. - I would even go so far as decribing your introduction as a very fine and outstanding example for highly
educated and extremely well formulated English. Lovely to listen! - I can sometimes learn too from your choice of words and
your beautiful formulations. - I hope to see you once again.
I am of course not so terribly well for very understandable reasons, but I am trying to push myself forward every day!
Stay safe, dear friend and bro and much love! - Wishing you all the best, peace and kindest regards to you and Remon.

Maureno, I recently got off the phone talking to my friend who lived in France for 15 years, she said that there are many reasons the families do not return to the properties. She lived in a rural area, the elderly lady that lived 2 doors down in a large chateau. She said the minute she died the house went into probate and France has extremely strict inheritance laws. Children have automatic rights but distance relatives can claim the property BUT there is a 60% taxes on the estate to acquire the property. Most people refuse the inheritance because lets say the mansion and property were valued at 2,000,000 that means the person who claims it has to pay 1,200,000 to claim the inheritance. Usually most of the large properties are already in decline because the elderly there naturally can't keep up with the repairs and soon ignore them because of their state of mind. Most of their children have their own families and have moved away so there is usually 500,000 worth of repairs at minute of the owners death but because of the time to claim and take possession of the property can be 3 to 7 years the property declines even more so the half a million goes to being a million and sometimes even more ONLY to repair the home. In that time of decay usually most of the valuables are destroyed due to the harsh elements leaving the property now costing the person who inherits is already in for 2,200,000 and then to do complete recovery and repair on the home is another 1,500,000 so now a 2,000,000 property is 3,800,000 and only worth 2,000,000 so it is not cost efficient or smart to save the mansions.
Usually the Palaces, mansions, etc are on very large pieces of property and the state will rent the land out to farmers and they take the profits to cover "existing taxes" but that is never reflected in the intermittence taxes so there is really no way for the family to recover the cost in saving the home. There are many many strict inheritance laws and being rural lawmen in the area know they can make money off of catching family entering the property because it is a means of lining their pockets saying the family was stealing the "family jewels" or destroying property leads to just more expenses to the family. Even with a will there is the 60% inheritance tax so no one usually has that much money to just jump in and save the property and by the time it all goes through the courts and the courts try to sell the property the home is in such decay it just does not sell. It cost farmers too much to raze the property and reclaim for farm land and most people don't have 4,000,000 laying around to take over the property.
As I read also many of these properties would be grand museums or destination locations for people to stay in BUT taxes cause it not to be profitable. Also most of these estates are very rural and far from the city and in this day and age people want to be where all the action is so staying 100 miles from a large city is not where they wish to go. Makes me wonder, do these city people (i personally call them Citidots- city idiots) even know what peace and quiet is? I mean kids play video games all day or in front of a screen of some sort do they even know what nature is other than watching a dog show on Animal Planet? Sad they have never sat on a large rock and looked out over a valley, or climbed a tree to see over a mountain range. They have never sat on a dock watching water lap for hours, seeing the fish jumping, frogs hopping by, Eagles catching large fish from the water, otters playing near the shore, beavers hauling branchs to their dams. They see jet skis and motorboats but not a canoe hearing the peace and quiet of birds singing and insects buzzing. OMG they have no idea what they are missing. It is horrid and sad knowing what the internet has done in destroying people living life to the fullest and knowing what is really out here in our history. I know watching this video shows me an amazing frozen in time location but I don't get to feel the dust, smell the decay (and poop) hear the sound of foot steps on the wood, creaking of the wind coming thru the windows and so much more. Do you think maybe technology has destroyed so many people's minds? lol I just talked myself into it hahaha.
I have another friend who was a nanny in rural France back in the 90s, I am going to call her this week and see what she knows about these properties. I also have a person I know who was being held as a sex slave in a gorgeous old chateau there in rural France, he escaped nearly 2 years ago but he lived in a 300 year old property that he was restoring room by room since he was not allowed to leave the property or be seen. I do know that in the last 2 years the guy who held him has passed and now that property is in probate with no family claiming it and my friend said they wanted over 3,000,000 for it but couldn't take possession for 5 years because they had to make sure no family claimed it so it means that house would sit in decay too OMG I am starting to see the pattern here....
Okay I am done babbling and need to get up and take care of some things. My 17 year old cat broke his femur and had a screw put in. He is doing really well so far. I just couldn't put him down. I lost my son last year and he is my family for now, my heart has been broken so much and I have to prepare it to be broken again but he has too much life in him to snuff it out.
    Love you, stay safe

Good wisdom, Maureno, about weighing ourselves down with material things. We accumulated for over thirty years as we raised our family. But we don't want to end like this poor woman. We've been scaling back to a tiny home with only what we really need and a few most precious mementos -- and giving the rest to our children, bit by bit. And, like you said, preparing for more world travel and collecting memories instead. These videos are fantastic reminders: you can't take it with you.

I was saddened by this explore, up the stairs I got the impression that these were possibly children's rooms and the Master bedroom. I try to understand the minds of those who feel they must trash homes that are empty. The one room that was tidy with the look that the owner had just left, I believe someone, maybe an other explorer, took time to move all the scattered belongings to other rooms. To give one room to honor the family that lived there and the Woman who was alone so long.
That is how my home would end up, if I were to just die, I do not believe my children would bother to come and take anything, they do not visit while I am alive so why would they come when I am no longer here. Sad thought but I think an honest one.
Thank you for continuing to bring us, the good, the bad and the ugly of your explores.

Veronica and Nadia, your comments make me wish there were something I could do to help. If you are able to move about, please look for groups or organizations near you that you could join. Whatever your interests, there's bound to be a club of some kind with people who share your passion for reading, cooking, sewing, bird watching, astronomy, the list is endless! Even if there isn't a group you could meet with in person, I'm sure you could find many online. If you're people of faith, your house of worship would likely be able to introduce you to like-minded people or volunteer work you could do.
I hope your families will reconnect with you, but whether they do or not, please seek out ways to connect with other people. No one should be completely alone. I will pray that you both find a path to happiness. 🙏

I think what many are failing to see is that this was an old woman. She probably lost the ability to care for her home, by herself, many many years ago. It was probably all she could do to take care of her own personal needs, however to expect her to do all the maintenance and upkeep of a "stick home" (exactly why so many elderly people move to smaller homes) is completely unrealistic. As well as, as an older woman she likely didn't have the skills that would be needed. Owning a home myself, it seems like the work is never ending. The garbage and bagged things were probably gathering up before she passed away. This, imo, speaks volumes about how we care for the elderly today, in most counties for that matter. You'd find a lot less of this kind of thing if elderly folks could access home care (domestic help and personal care). Sad, very sad.

Hola Maureno!!

I hope that someday families of the property owners will see the documentary’s that you have filmed and return to the homes to at least save the photo’s that are left behind. Maybe even a couple of items that they may have cherished from their past. I totally agree with you, we all need to take this as a reminder that items should be donated before it gets to a point that they are no longer useful. In this case it really upset me that cars, appliances like the refrigerator, washer, freezer are all just wasted and destroyed! Many people could have used these items in the past. Greed never gets you anywhere. Thanks again Maureno for doing your best to document the past! ☮️💟 Nana

I know you thlink that some people have too much "stuff", but you have to remember, as we get older, we purchase things that make us happy, give us pleasure, and complete a passion we may have. You have the passion to travel and explore and being young it is something that can be done, myself for expample, am not as young as you and I have a passion for cooking and I am forever buying new things for my kitchen, such as gadgets spices and anything to do with cooking. It is not always just stuff, but our passions put into material form. Stay safe, and keep those wonderful explores coming!!

What an interesting contrast between what must have been a lovely home and the sad witness to homeless living. Some of the items were truly beautiful. I'm really glad that some explorers years ago set up the dining room vignette. It said much about how the home must have been. Thank you for the interesting video and story.

I think that three leg chair, may be a milkers chair. They used them while milking the cows. I've never seen one with a back on it. I would think it would be more comfortable tho.

You really risk your life going in this place, I feel like I need a shower now. T hat one room with the big fireplace was nice and I liked the tile in the bathroom the green and white. It is a shame that it is in such a mess and what the homeless have done to it. Thank you for showing it, would love to have seen it when they lived there.

Hola Graciela, maravilloso comentario!!
Un abrazo y muchos saludos desde Chile 🙋‍♀️🇨🇱

I agree about watching how many possessions you have. Having to clear out my mothers house after her death cured me of that. She had a houseful of items. Sadly part of the problem was her illness- dementia. It’s better to keep memories than possessions! I’m thinking her husband was a pilot- you found his hat and the wallpaper in the one office was an airplane cockpit.

26:09 OMG those are pins are amazing they seem to be from all over the world, I recognize some from Holland, Germany, Canada, France, Russia Those are amazing!!!
By the smile on her face in the pictures I wonder if Miss Chantel really had such a sad life. It looks like she lived things to the fullest but was a home body and seemed very content. She had many things to keep her entertained, looks like she was very self efficient too. Those pictures could have been her son's family and they seem comfortable in her home in the pictures so they were probably there often, just the inheritance laws in France SUCK!!!
HAHAHA I said it didn't look like she was a horder hahaha and then you walk into her office hahaha oops prove me wrong hahaha But then too it looks like that was her husbands office, it looks like he was quite a business man by the looks of the books and things. It looks also like they moved things into that room to centralize it but ended up creating more of a mess than fixing anything. With the heavy dust upstairs her husband probably stayed up there with his office he probably passed first and she didn't go back up there. Looks like someone piled things up, probably got to consumed with their mess they quit beore having it clean and quit. But you said it right, squatters ruined it all
OMG maybe the husband was a pilot because you found the hat and on the wall in the office was the cockpit of a plane 27:55 on the wall OMG It covered the whole wall and is gorgeous!!!
I really like some the ceiling light fixtures, they were lovely
I think before the squatters this was probably a very lovely home, it had a nice feeling to it.
    Thank you for the adventure!!!!

If you find sewing thread, you say"they loved sewing" but any woman has that in her house, including myself hahaha and I hate sewing!! But you have to have it to sew your button on your blouse 😂😂
And back in the days the elderly always had a sewing kit, in stead of buying new clothes, they were sewn.
