Haha, Chris I think we all do that at some point. We dig with a guy who checks about 50% of his plugs and he’s very picky about what signals he digs. Anyway, we were hitting a field that was used to muster local militia and a point where confederate prisoners were transferred from train to wagon to be brought to a near by POW camp here in central Massachusetts, any way, my buddy found a big filled in hole and by chance ran his coil over it and got a really nice high tone so he popped it up and there in the loose dirt was a 1785 2 Reale . Needless to say, my other buddy was pretty pissed, but about an hour later he dug a Mississippi two piece infantry button dropped by a prisoner getting transferred to camp Rutland. Great day. Anyway, really like your channel, keep it up!!!
Man thanks so much! I’ve really enjoyed reading your comments today and yesterday. See the thing about checking plugs is if someone had asked me before that video if I did it I would have said unequivocally yes. And I know that I usually did. But this video just proved to me that I didn’t do it all the time. Haha it still makes me sick wondering what it was. For context I dug a Virginia half-penny less than 20 feet or so from that same spot. I don’t know if it’s on edge now or what but I’ve swung over that general area now multiple times hoping to find what I lost- but maybe me not finding it again is the Relic Gods way of telling me to slow down! Thanks again for supporting the channel. We have a FB group with the same name as the YT channel. Would love to have you join so we can see your finds!
Thank you!! I will be sure to check your channel out as well! I’m so happy you found the channel. If you watch any of the metal detecting videos I have I always love feedback good or bad! Have a great night
I definitely am not perfect as you can tell. Worst part is this was REALLY good ground where a ton of cool things had come out...nearly no modern trash. It’s killing me what that was. My jaw dropped open when I saw whatever that thing is fall right next to my hand. Thanks for watching and taking time to Comment buddy.
Aww man 😫 I'll start double checking all of my plugs, just in case 👍 Thank you for bringing this to my attention because I'm not as good at checking like I should ☺
Thanks for watching and yes- always check! Haha I’m still sick thinking I may have left a Virginia half penny or other really rare old copper coin there that day. Happy hunting!
Chris it happens, in hindsight you could have nocked that item that popped up to the surface further away on the recheck, or stepped on it and not gotten a signal anyway.
It’s very possible. And with as much swinging as we’ve done in that area it’s possible one of us came along and heard it and dug it on subsequent hunts. If that was the case it’s likely it was a shot gun head stamp or not anything good- but at this point it’s still eating at me pretty good. When I first saw the clip and saw that item pop free my jaw hung open! I had to watch it over and over frame by frame. Thanks for watching buddy
Its caked on on mud off your lesche- look at 4:35 it falls off your lesche at top of hole when you pull it out of the dirt it then falls down to bottom of hole when you flick the camp lead. you are ok.
Noooooo...you’re supposed To say it’s just a shotgun shell. Nothing to see here! Haha Sadly, my suspicions are that it’s likely a coin too. Obviously too large for a penny or a nickel. And by the color that’s starting to put us into the half penny or other state copper size. Man if I’d have just checked my plug!
Interesting video, i would like to think that I always re-check my holes but I'm sure I've forgotten on a few too! Great video and info!
Thank you! Man it still makes me sick to think of what that could’ve been! Less than 100 yards from where I dug a Virginia half-penny too!
Sorry you missed that but thanks for the reminder to recheck our plugs. Cheers, Paige C.
Thanks Paige!! It’s killing me wondering if it was a Colonial coin! Haha.....lesson learned 😊
Thank you so much Paige!

Rechecking holes is something we all should do!

@@TobaccoRoadRelics I deactivated my FB account because of the negative crap about politics and my wife and I had covid!
I remember you saying you were gonna do that. Hope you both are well now. Great hearing from ya buddy
I want to say I recheck all my plugs, but I'm not perfect. lol

@@TobaccoRoadRelics Live and learn sir, no need to dwell, not a big deal that it could have been a double eagle gold coin....lol.
Haha that would have killed me. Thanks again bud
Awww man!! I’ve done it too. Peace
This one still hurts! I’m still dying to know what it was!
Its caked on on mud off your lesche- look at 4:35 it falls off your lesche at top of hole when you pull it out of the dirt it then falls down to bottom of hole when you flick the camp lead. you are ok.
Holy cow? For real?? I gotta go back and look now!!! Good eyes Of you spotted that buddy. I sure didn’t
WOW, YOU JUST NEVER KNOW
You sure don’t! Thanks for watching the video 😊
Looks like a coin

Man I still am haunted about that one! I personally think it was a copper. Smaller than a large cent. Maybe a half cent or a farthing.
Hi
Hey Parker!
