Sootch00 just did a review of this pistol and had no where near as much trouble disassembling the gun as you did. Check out his video on it and maybe you will see a better way to do it.
@@pew_pew_review yup, I bought my brother one. He must have watched your video and said he was getting a bench vise tomorrow. I saw Sootch00 video first weeks ago and didn't remember it being as difficult as what my brother was complaining about. I sent him the easier video.
Hey I just tried the Sootch00 method. It wasn't working. The tolerances seem too tight. I was able to work the locking block up an inch at a time and reset my grip while squeezing the block against the slide/barrel to hold that position and this made it easy enough. No vise needed. An alternative is to hold the slide barrel crown up while pressing the locking block on the edge of a table or counter top. Very easy to pop in the retaining Allen.
i finally saw a ria5.0e in my lgs. they supposedly did some engineering changes to make takedown easier. i wonder how the process differs now. guns i thought were tough to take apart: ruger mark 2( non intuitive but easy enough so long as you watch a video), a hard fit 1911with a full length dustcover with a gi length guide rod( best to do it with the slide resting on a padded table and bringing the frame upside down over it while holding the compressed spring with one hand-finally gave in after dinging the end of the dust cover with the slide, dinging my bike in the garage as the guide rod flew and hit it etc... and put in a FLGR which solved the issue). none compares to this.
I don't mess with compressing the spring using the hole in the ram. I keep the ram pinned in block and then remove the pin once I've released the block. When putting it back together I pin the ram back in and then use a punch through the ram to hold back the compressed spring. I reinsert the ram into the valve and release the spring. Then use a old plastic card to push the detent in locking block and it pops into place. You can even do it without a punch... just need to keep the spring lined up as you compress it back into the the ram valve housing.
I really think the Sootch pistol was broken in, so it was easy to take apart that way. I tried it that way and had to use a little more force. It ended up hurting the finish where I tried to wiggle it out. The method you used per manual is really the correct way and it was the kindest to the pistol. A pain. Yes, but doable.
Thanks for the field strip video, it's very helpful. You've also convinced me that when my RIA 5.0 is ready for a field-strip cleaning I'm just going to sell it. ;)
There is another video that has the hex put in the slide by pulling the spring down until the hole in the guide rod is accessible. It is still very hard.
Apparently not! Successful takedown of the slide from the frame. I pushed the entire block up to the rvs and paperclipped the guiderod. I removed the paperclip and brought the whole assembly back to the starting point. When I tried to push the block up to the rvs again, it wouldn't move. I've binded something up. While trying to figure it out, the small pin at the rear of the assembly fell out. It has to be removed anyway, but justin opinion mentioned it would be tight. It wasn't. I contacted RIA, and they said an armorer would be getting back to me in 24 hours. Still waiting. Any suggestions?
So I have one of these and I have worked out a much better way to get it apart and back together. I have a video of it on my channel, but essentially you compress the spring on the rod and pin it without pushing it through the ram valve first. This takes all the tension out of the system and makes taking the pin and block out and in a lot easier
Thanks! I'll check out your video and maybe make an update. I figured I'd just follow the manual but I've seen other people have better luck not doing that lol.
I’m sure it’s a decent, cleverly designed, purpose-built shooter. Given that it’s a beast to maintain, I imagine that more than a few will put off stripping, cleaning, and oiling - until “next time.” It’s buyer beware (caveat emptor) when these are ultimately available in the used market.
Hey guys! Let me know if you have any questions etc. This thing is a pain to field strip, literally. Forgive my occasional incorrect terminology, I'm a simple man.
Ya he definitely found a different way to do it which is indeed much better. I'm wondering why the manual has you do it like this when Soochs way is so much easier.
So what do you think about the two issues most people complain about, first people with fleshy hands wish it had a Beaver tail and second is the Spongy no wall trigger. Also has anyone made an upgraded trigger for it yet? The RAI 5.0 & the Canik Rival-S were the two guns I was looking to purchase but the Caniks have been having issues with lockup, Mags and mag release issues which I don't expect of a Thousand dollar gun. I already own two RIA pistols and think highly of their products.
buy a walther pdp or q 5 match. i have a ria 5.0 currently having extraction problem still have 350 round before i can send it back for warranty. will see if it gets better on its own

I went and watched his video! He did it differently than the manual states but definitely seems to be the better way to go! Thanks

did you have any extraction problems?
@@jeffforbes70 No extraction issues at all :)

Hah!
😁 When a Glock and a CZ love each other very much....
looks like angry break up sex to me

I must admit i got some sick pleasure out of watching this struggle. Still not as bad as a Ruger mk3. 😂
You should let someone else handle your routine maintenance. Some people are just not mechanical AT ALL.
Your skills sucks... Scootch did it very fast
Why bother? Lots of better pistols that are far less complicated.
It can’t be any worse than a Ruger Mark 2…….
FYI, looks like a 100% CZ slide release.
You just changed my mind about buying this gun lol

Geez, Sooch made it look so easy. Wtf?
Ya he definitely found a different way to do it which is indeed much better. I'm wondering why the manual has you do it like this when Soochs way is so much easier.
You don't have a vise? That explains a lot. You deserve a sore hand. It might make you think a little and follow instructions if it hurts enough.
I was so excited for this gun. but after seeing this, I see no advantage over a Beretta 92.
The pistol looks interesting. The maintenance looks horrible.
It is horrible! 😅
That there, second reason not to buy this gun
