Hey Matt, as a construction 🏗 worker, next time u have a Knott close to the cut on the board try and measure from the other end to stay away from cutting close to it. It will be Stronger..
@@FishermansLife I noticed that giant crack throughout the entire board and I was pretty certain I was gonna see someone fall but good ol american lumber held up in the end
Might also want to go twice as wide and use the "scrap" you had to go on the under side to stiffen it up, so less bend when going over it. Yeah a pain to carry but better than being wet. Also might want to not have it sitting for you when go back over water- pull it up.
I would go as far as to say you should use an I-joist very sturdy and fairly light for the support they provide, the tricky part would be finding one but if you know any framers in the area have em keep an eye out for you
To reduce the wobble in the board, try bringing a big sock full of grains of rice or beans, or even gravel, and put that under each end of the board. That might help make the board a bit more secure. Love your vids as always!
My wife bought me your 2 jigs, swivels, and the brown with orange fisherman life shirt for my birthday. I was so stoked. Thanks for all the content I’ve watched and learned from you for years now
That board crossing was heart pounding!! Had to support the channel I just received my steel head on fly sweater and surfperch sandcrab t-shirt! I just cannot take off that sweater love it Matt!! Fish on!!!
Pro tip, in case you want to do something with a board like that again. Get two of those boards and put one over the other connecting them with a bungee cable, then on the end close to you make a loop around the end with paracord or rope and pull the rope tight and hang it down to the rocks behind you securing the rope tight. Its best if you tie with the middle of the rope and tie those two ends in a triangle position to make more support and make sure its nice and tight. On the end closest to you it will be nice and stable since you will have two secure points, the two boards will keep it so it wont bow as much and it will be less likely that it slides and you fall. You are essentially making a simple drawbridge and its very easy to setup and take down and will work even in the rain.
Hello. I would love to make a suggestion. You should buy sand paper 300, the coarsed the paper the better. You could glue to one side of the board and then to the ends on the other side. This will give you extra grip specially when the board geta wet.
Matt you always make west coast fishing look cool. Mexico too. Thanks for the videos. Plus dude you are a legitimate rock walker... most people don’t realize how crazy wet rock walking is.

I thought that too for a second, until I watched it again a couple times and you can see that there was a "video edit" which a certain time period had pass. Therefore the Bobber must have floated out of picture frame.
You should test the board for strength (cracking) at home first under the weight you will be using when crossing, like put your gear in pack and test it between two points at home first before going straight to the real deal. Don't want to see you loose all that expensive gear.
Hey man, there are rock hopper boots with metal studs for walking on slippery surfaces. You could also put some screws through the ends of the board with the screw points half inch out the other side for grip too!

Aluminum extension ladders work really good as well and you can make bobber's cheap and fast using spray foam Saran wrap and PVC pipethe PVC pipe is used as the mold the Saran wrap is used so the spray foam doesn't stick to the PVC pipe and you can either spray paint or use fingernail polish. That spot looks awesome for poking around for ling's and caps
Since this area was previously scouted, why didn't you bring 2 planks of wood? It would have been much more stable and much less scary. Bolting the 2 pieces of wood together would have increased stability even more.
You need tabis we use them in Hawai’i Originally from Japan I believe those are good for slick rocks some come with small metal tips for even better traction
Next time use an alum extensions ladder, if you must use boards design a rig that turns the board on its side the way you put pressure on that board was the way it had the least breaking strength. Could have easy suddenly snapped

Sculpin comes from the ancient Greek σκόρπαινα (skórpaina) meaning scorpion. It was absorbed into Latin (scorpena) and eventually into French and English as scorpion in modern times. Spanish conquerors named the fish with the obsolete sailor term for fish that stung or were poisonous, "escorpión" and now in English - Sculpin. On the other side of the Americas, Portuguese sailors called these "stinger" fish, escorpião (basically escorpione) and cemented the term across the continent.
