In 2018 I fell in love with an old friend. she was so amazing and fun and beautiful. we always rode our bikes around town, went to see the stars, smoke and talk. I was confused about my sexuality, and when I told her I was falling for her, she was under no obligation to deal with my messed up head. she stopped talking to me, and I never had the courage to call her again, even though I thought about her all these years. our story is very similar to the story of the girls in the video, and this song always reminded me of our story and my love for her. yesterday, she passed away in a motorcycle accident. I never got the chance to see her for the last time, to tell her that I now understand my feelings for her and that I always loved her, even though I kept the feeling dormant. I wish I had the chance to do that, because now I don't know what to do with this feeling.

I relate to your story. I was such a baby gay back then. I was 19 and it was the year I came out to my family. I didn't used to see many LGBTQ+ music videos back then as I do these days. Seeing some LGBTQ representations certainly helped me figure out how I wanted to make my coming out. The emotions in this video are similar to how I felt back then. Anyways, just to say that the nostalgia hits me hard everytime I listen to this song and everytime I watch this videoclip too.

Watched this as a teenager when it came out and it permanently altered my brain chemistry... still hits just as hard a decade later.

I think that the story the video tells is just a fantasy that the girl with the tall hair has. Look at how they're wearing the same clothes throughout the entire video, and how it starts off with her running towards the other girl and getting onto her bike - but that never actually happens because at the end you see that she never left the field and the other girl got into a car with some guy. Still very sad, I adore this video. It's beautiful.

I've always understood this video as the girl imagining all these scenarios with the other girl, a stranger to her, as she crossed the sidewalk to the car. Like we sometimes imagine a whole life together with a stranger we took a liking for whatever reason, in mere seconds - just to keep our loneliness in check.
That, in my mind, is a greater storyline than both of them falling in love, and then everything falling apart.

Wow, what an amazing video from an amazing band! So much depth... I really liked how they made it very easily interpreted different ways by different people. I think she was day dreaming it all--for me the video is showing the frailness of human mentality and how it's so easy to get caught on a thought of "could be" and lose yourself in it, and how that can lead to accidentally harming yourself. Absolutely beautiful (the girls and the video ;).
That might make sense since their clothing doesn't change throughout the video, even though several days/ weeks seem to pass. Also, she still has the the injury below her eye the entire time.

In fact I've also seen how comfortable it can be for the one on top of that one-sided affair with the knowledge that IF you ever wanted the option, it's there. There used to be a semi comic song entitled, "How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away" :) and I'm definitely not promoting appearing to move on as any kind of play. It's probably not wise to pursue someone as a lover who caves to conflict. Silversun Pickups are so amazing and so underrated. This song is so amazing. It's my favourite song of theirs. The video is has a good story as well. You can definitely relax to this music. The brunette in the video really looks like an old friend of mine that I let go of 3 years ago. It's her eyes. I wasn't in a happy place in my life and I wasn't the friend she needed me to be. Unknowingly and unvoluntarily we had developed feelings for each other. There's just no one that ever got me like she did. Now she won't return my calls nor my messages after all this time..only now that she's long gone have I realized what I've lost and how much I miss her...but perhaps I'm just too little too late. Still, thinking that in my life I've come across a person that got me like she did, and knowing that she exists in this world, makes me happy.

This may sound weird, but I found this music video playing inside a walmart. They had it on their tv's on a loop, playing every 25 minutes or so, even for Canada, that's hella progressive of walmart to put a music video that's blatant lgbt in a store predominantly visited by suburban families. I originally didnt think this song was good, but ive been hearing it in a playlist a lot, and now i love this song. It just grew on me haha
The ending line, "the edge of the big reveal could be the end of story" seems to be where the sporty girl realizes her fantasies won't come true, because the girl who she hoped was gay seems to be straight.
I saw this video once a long time ago, as I was really into Silversun Pickups. At the time, the story confused me. Rewatching years later, and it all seems perfectly clear now. Crazy how much you learn over time.
