    One thing I do like to do with the Inktense is to either use them in Kirby Rosanes books, because he includes so much shading in his penwork a simple wash is very effective (and fast, his pages are huge and usually really detailed).. or for very simple coloring I will use a mid to dark tone pencil to go around the edges of an object and then just drag it out over the white of the paper with a waterbrush.. it kind of "auto shades"...very quick and effective. This is similar to how I use Prisma only with the blender pencil instead of water. The pigment moves easily. They can also act as an alternative to pen for basing.

      Same! I don't understand why people say you cannot get a light wash with inktense... just use less pencil, and drag the color with water... there's no need to cover everything with pencil before activating... I absolutely love them, and their "auto shading" capability that you mention. Also... you get to save a lot of pencil if you just color a small part of the image; I can see these lasting ages!

      @@andreae. Exactly. It also blends out a lot smoother in my experience with less pigment on the paper. You can tell if you have too much because it goes "clumpy".

    I just purchased the full set of Faber-Castell Pitt Pens and absolutely love that the colors match the Polychromos pencils. I use the Pitt pens for basing and the Polys for shading. The only downside is that they’re more of a fine liner, but Faber-Castell has come out with a 30 set of dual marker Pitt Pens with a thicker brush nib. And the best part is you can buy them individually when one runs out. They don’t soak through the page as they are India ink based. The colors would also match the Albrecht Durers since they’re all in the Faber-Castell color family.

    I love the Neo Color I also like them for backgrounds. I used them in Amazon paper. It can be used, but the paper ripples when the water is applied. It’s not bad not bad and the paper eventually flattens.

      I don't have the Albecht Duer pencils, I have the polychromoes. I do have a lot of pencil sets, but up till now these have been my favorites. However, the lightest blue, sky blue is really not that light. They have a few beautiful pinks, but a very light pink is not included. There is no lavender or pale mauve. So I decided that I wanted a artist quality set with colors that were missing in the polychromoes. I also went for the Pablo set. I use the sets together and they have a similar laydown to the polys. Of course all the colors are different in the 2 sets and it's 😊been really great having a 240 range of colors to work with.

The colors of both are gorgeous especially the greens in CDs. You’ve taught me so much!! I couldn’t get over the difference after I embellished with Fineliners. You’re extremely creative. ❤️

    I really enjoyed your show and tell and I had to swallow hard because you are so disciplined in your supplies. You buy what you like and stick to it and do not allow yourself to be swayed to try budget brands etc. But I must tell you that you would love the supracolors by Caran d‘ache. The colours are brilliant when activated. I think they can also be used as regular dry coloured pencils too. Anyways wishing you a wonderful new year when it comes around!

      Hello, I am so glad you enjoy the channel, means a lot to me. Sure, the folder I use is something like this one and I got it from Amazon UK: amzn.eu/d/hd72b2q (not an affiliate link). The clear sleeves do come off very easily however I do like the fact that they come off so easily and the binder lies flat and can be folded over - makes it so much easier when you have limited space. Hope this helps 🤗💗

    i love my toms, I never used colored pencils with them (Because i cant use color pencils) I usually use gel pens. Its nice to see another Tombow fan. I usually run out of the greens (The darker greens) and i need to get a new one, because i just did a big back round. I need something other then Tombows for backround because as you said they do streak. Do you have a good backround marker to do that with so i dont have to keep replacing my greens all the time? (sorry if you said i was multi tasking at the time)

  • @waymire01
    @waymire01 Рік тому

    Tombows are spendy, but they are very nice pens. I too have some that are going on three years old and the only one that has ever dried out is one my daughter mistakenly put the caps on backwards. The only other waterbased marker I've tried and enjoyed are the newer Goldfaber aqua dual markers, very similar to Tombow, a bit larger brush tip, but some unique colors.. they follow the faber castell palette. I find the earth greens (may green, chromium oxide green, olive green yellowish, etc) in particular a good addition.There is also a gorgeous antique rose and a grey blue that are stunning and rare in pens. They are also sold open stock so you can pick up just a color or two if you wish.

    • @Ailine_
      @Ailine_ Рік тому +1

      Thank you for pointing out those Goldfaber aqua dual markers. Had never heard of them, but I see I can buy all 60 colours open stock here in my country. I especially like some of the pastel colours in that collection. Sakura Koi brush pens are decent waterbased markers as well and they also have some colours that are a nice addition to the Tombow set.

      That is a great idea! Colouring will definitely help you practice your skills. To be honest, I like to use artist quality pencils, as I have tried a couple of budget brands and I have not enjoyed them. That is why I have a very limited colouring pencil collection. I love my Albrecht Dürers and I think they are great to work with wet and dry. If you are after budget brands I have heard that Brutfuner squares are decent and Arrtx pencils too. But you have have to check out other channels for reviews for them. Sorry I was not much help 🤗💗

    great video :D i really need to give the albrecht durer pencils a go, i got them and can't say i used them yet apart from swatching, i do love my polychromos though so i probably wont be dissapointed. Also if you want more subtle colours with inktense pencils, just scrub some of the pigment onto pallet [like the caran d'ache one where one side is more coarse, or even chopping board xD] and delute with water just like you would with watercolour paints ;) then you can build up the colours and intensity from there.

    I decided on the Supracolors over the Pablos.. mostly because I have an absolute favorite dry pencil set already which is a mix of the Polychromos and the light/pastel shades of the Prismacolor... but my favorite colors different from the Faber Castell palette are the many olive variations (not just green but yellow, grey, black, and brown), and those cool browns (beige/cocoa/etc). The Ivory black is also lovely.. it's a warm black (there are actually both warm and cool black in the set), I find it so nice for super deep shadows on warm toned colors. I also like Apricot, it's quite unique.

    Curious, when you use the tombow brush markers, which are water-based, like you did in the briar book, did you use a water pen? Whenever I’ve used the Thomas brush markers that always either streak don’t blend too well but I’ve never actually applied water.

    • @shelscolouringjourney
      @shelscolouringjourney  9 місяців тому

      Very few pages in our colouring books allowing blending with water on the paper as they are not marker paper.
      I use them various ways - direct to paper with no water (like in th briar page), off a palette with water and in books that allow it, I blend with water on the paper.
      I never use them for large areas, as they will streak since they are waterbased. And most often I use pencil over the top.
      Hope this helps 🤗💗

      Hello! I am so glad you liked this video. I tend to use fixatives on all my pages once completed 'just incase' (unless I use only markers, which I never really do or watercolour only). So yes, I do use them with my ADs when dry. Hope this helps 🤗💗

    Thanks for sharing. When you base with your Tombows as you did in the Briar book do you apply them directly to the paper or use them off a pallette with a waterbrush? Thanks.

    • @shelscolouringjourney
      @shelscolouringjourney  Рік тому

      My pleasure. So for this specific page in Briar I used them direct to the paper. Generally, I tend to use them both ways - certain factors make me decide, such as paper I am colouring on (amazon paper would ruin the nib, so I use it off a palette), thick and smooth paper I tend to use it directly, and also the colour I depth I want to achieve - if I need the specific colour to laydown lighter, I will use it off a palette. On paper that is very smooth where my pencils may not work well, I use the Tombows off a palette as it gives some tooth to the paper which then helps me work with my pencils.
      I hope this helps 🤗💗

    I enjoy your videos. You are very talented and fun to watch. I want you to know that colorist is related to colorism, and is a very negative term. Every time you say it, it bothers me a little although I know that you and other people in the coloring community use the term innocently. This is just for information so that you know. Enjoy your day.

      I totally agree with you that the term ‘colourist’ can have negative connotations. So sorry if it has bothered you.
      The context in which a term is used is very important, as you have alluded to….it is solely being used to define us as someone who colours and is commonly used in the art world. 💗
