You don’t have to adjust Harley’s valves after 300 MILES 🤡. Actually, you never do as Harley always uses hydraulic valves, just like Royal Enfield did for their last generation of bikes (at the same low price). Now they use the most maintenance heavy engines possible on a modern bike. It’s laughable
I’ve been to the Motor Bike Expo in Verona, here in northern Italy, last weekend (yes, the Romeo and Juliet city turned into a Motorbike Rally for a few days). I had the chance to hop on and off back to back on all the RE range, especially this Shotgun, the Continental GT and the Interceptor. I have to say that the Shotgun felt the best of the bunch: more comfortable than the GT, but with a lot more personality than the Interceptor. I’m into bigger engines and more sporty ergonomics, but If I had to choose a bike for a relaxed Sunday afternoon ride along Lake Como, this would definitely be an option!
It's fairly heavy for a 45 hp 650cc bike. I think it's pretty pointless to compare it to a full size Harley with a massive v2 with at least twice the displacement.
@@marcoluoma3770 yes, the ballpark math tells me they both have a similar power to weight ratio. However, I wouldn't compare these two bikes directly. I would compare them within their class, HD to other big touring cruisers and the RE with other cruiser styled bikes within the A2 license limits. And I happen to own a 650 cruiser bike within A2 limits, a '97 Suzuki LS650 Savage, and that boy comes in at 170 kg (375 pounds) ready to go. That makes the RE coming at 500 a *relatively* heavy bike.
Complaining about the weight has nothing to do with lifting the bike on the stand. The problem with mass is more inertia leading to less agility through the bends, and worse performance in general, braking and acceleration.
My 2000 Kawasaki W650 weighs 400 pounds and makes 50hp and 40ft/lb of torque and it's 24 years old already... That's the disappointing thing about the Enfields. They weigh as much as a Triumph Bonneville but make less power than my old W650. And my W is not a powerhouse, just a great classic, standard parallel twin bike. I like the 350cc Enfields because they fill a gap for simplicity and they're pretty nimble and peppy for what they are. The 650s I've ridden didn't spark much joy.
Love it. Stunning bike, genuinely. The badge also looks nice, So why oh why did they use such awful type face on the paint work. That sh*t would have to go before I rode it!
I've ridden a 2023 Himalayan for about a year and it is pretty much junk. I'd never buy an RE product again. Transmission is horrible and nearly impossible to get into neutral. The infamous relays under the seat problem that keep the fuel pump from working. Handlebars collapsed under normal strap tie downs. Easy enough to bend them back, lol. Not good. I pulled the tags from the bike and just use it for farm stuff.

First of all, their last generation of AIR COOLED bikes had hydraulic valves that NEVER needed adjusting. Harley’s AIR COOLED Sportsters were the same. And so on… So, they went from hydraulic valves (at the same low price) to the most maintenance heavy engine on a modern bike. 3,000 miles afterwards is still a joke and most riders can’t change the oil, let alone mess with a temperamental rubber gasket, hard to remove cover and then try to work with feeler gauges. That’s about $500 after 300 MILES (for the first valve adjustment). Even more after only 3,000 miles. It’s laughable 🤡
@@madrat5176 yes I know about bikes. It's an air cooled and also oil cooled (will admit I left that part out) engine of their own design. Air cooled engines in general have shorter service intervals than liquid cooled. Harley's air-cooled V-twins are a completely different story compared to air cooled parallel twins like Triumph and Royal Enfield. But they are still cheaper to own than air-cooled Ducatis/BMWs. People get bikes for different reasons. It's not hard at all to follow a UA-cam guide on how to do your own maintenance. I know people with little experience that have done a ton thanks to UA-cam. If they don't research that stuff beforehand then they're the clowns not Royal Enfield. They're reliable bikes that are forgiving and super simple to work on. Harleys can be simple to work on as well. Not having valve checks is nice but there's a host of other things to do/watch out for on just like any other bike.

Especially when they’re coming from hydraulic valves from the last generation. That’s what makes it so unforgivable. I’ve been working in bikes since I’m 10 years old, own a 22 Continental and recently rebuilt an old Iron Barrel Bullet 500 down to a new crankshaft and crank case bearings. So, I know a thing or two about Royal Enfield and working on bikes. Most buyers aren’t like me and don’t have the tools (or space) to work on their own. At this price point, they’re likely beginners that just want to ride and let the dealer service it. A $500+ charge after only 300 miles on a bike this cheap is again unforgivable. An air cooled engine needing a little more attention and one this maintenance heavy are two different things entirely. All modern motorcycle engines from major manufacturers are reliable. This isn’1 the 1980s. And if you have some issues with anything (I’m looking at you KTM), all are covered by warranties. These parallel twins should definitely have hydraulic valves or at least much better design. BMW’s R18, for example, has the same kind of screw-type valves with 6,000 mile service intervals and NO 300 MILE BS.
These bikes are trash i thought about buying one the salesman talked me out of it said they are ao unreliable. Showed me a few in the shop that needed major work. Glad i dodged that bullet

It's a valve inspection not a valve job after 3000 miles... The whole valve clearance job is every 6000 miles.
