Great review and nice landing, missing all the traps! I've had my ASW 28 for 2 years now and it goes very well. Only real issue is the CG ... would you be able to balance yours without that camera on the tail? I couldn't - the pack basically had to go under the wing otherwise it was pretty nose heavy. So I removed the wheel and foam well, and hung the pack under the rear/top ply plate (I removed the front/lower ply plate). I use an Aeronaut 12x8 prop in place of the stock one - the motor handles this fine on 3S and the climb rate is much improved. You asked about telemetry - I have a vario (for altitude and vertical speed), pack/cell voltages, and current (to get mAh used). I use crow braking for landing, just on a 3-pos switch rather than a slider. I have aileron-flap mixing to boost the roll rate a little, and also camber adjust (flaps & ailerons drooped or raised together) although I rarely use that. I widened the servo cable channel slightly at the wing roots to take a 4-pin connector for the servos - this is covered by a small flap hinged at the front edge with tape and held shut by small magnets at the back. I added cheap vac-formed servo covers to clean it up a bit, some scale registration letters, and some extra red trim (tape). I did cut the flaps off and re-hinge them with tape to get more throw without the servos stalling. No other issues - all the servos are original and have been fine. Like you said, super fast & ultra precision gear is not really necessary here ;-) Short video of mine from a week or two ago here: ua-cam.com/video/77UCKSgK8-k/v-deo.html

Great to get some feedback from a fellow owner! The CG puzzled me a bit as well.. Without the camera I could just about CG it on 1 1600mah 3S..
WITH the camera however I had to use *BOTH* 1600mah's I had with me :|
Thanks :) I will look into those (and maybe flight controller / GPS setups.. NOT to stabelize the plane.. only for telemetry data)..
Cheers & thanks for stopping by! :)

@@DutchRC My standard pack is a 2700 3S - that works really well and gives easy 20 minute flights. As mentioned it's strapped under the rear plate; I trimmed the cockpit moulding slightly so it can be moved forward a bit e.g. with a camera on the tail (it's just a Mobius Mini, so pretty light).

Greate review and performance! As a hight qualified pilot could you give me a review of my modified ASW28, look up my videoes. After the videoes were shot, I have replaced the RX with an original Spektrum AR8010T 8ch Telemetry Receiver, and I have modified my Spektrum DX8 G2 like Sunny Soundrise (ua-cam.com/video/VpM9AVk_U2Y/v-deo.html). As you might see I have some issues with the range.
I'm only an intermediate pilot, I rely on using stabilization on this model and I have, like several ASW28 pilots, a need for more authorities of the control surfaces. Some mix the ailerons with the flaps, I, and a few others, extend the control surfaces - your opinion? At last I find the ASW very attractive for FPV flying. I have an Arkbird 2.0 Lite installed, and that one gives me all the telemetri I need, beside the sight of "sitting in the plane".

    • @DutchRC
      @DutchRC  4 роки тому

      Halloa sir :)
what issues do you have with range? I mean: how much range would be good enough for You? :)
On the agility of the ASW28: the plane is a reasonably large (for an RC plane) glider, sooooo basically it shouldn't corner Hard ;) I DO understand how a less experienced pilot can be caught off guard by this. Could it be that a slightly smaller airplane (say 1600mm) would be a good trainer to get more experience? It would indeed be possible to make the flaps Allso act as ailerons, but the effect would be limited (an aileron needs to be as far away from the center of rotation to be effective)..
Faster & stronger airleron servo's would be my first thing to do (2.2Kg metal gear digital servo's).. Would be an upgrade for both tail-servo's as well.. for instance:
      www.banggood.com/4Pcs-EMAX-ES09MD-Digital-Swash-Servo-For-450-Helicopter-With-Metal-Gear-p-1157378.html?p=TO251813974002015038
Hope that helps a bit! :)

      @@DutchRC Hello again! :-)
At my second ASW28 (My first I had trouble with due to my incompetace) I flew only within sight range. But the telemetri flight log recorder told me about several Frame losses and Holds. In that model I used a Lemon DX7 with stabilizer. In my third and present ASW28 I have set the preset Failsafe in RTH mode. If you've watched my videoes you'll see that Failsafe turn on within a range of 300 to 600 m. I've been using a Lemon RX10 to serve the Arkbird flight controller. I've realized that I've been way too sloppily in placing the antennas. Now I've been much more careful in placing them away from batteries and servo cables. Furthermore I've done the changes I've told you before. I expect the range now to be stable on at least 800 m. I'm now about to try this out as soon as the weather improves, it has been horrible the last weeks.
You're quite right, I've been caught "off guard" flying this model without stabilization. I've therefor been quite dependent on that, and it suites my type of flying quite well.
Tanks for your advices, I'll follow your channel to keep up with interesting information.
      Happy flying!! :-)
