I had never heard the phrase leaders and enders, but I am with ya now. I have always used the smallest scrap of fabric as a leader to start my squares or patchwork, even now when I no longer worry about the machine eating the end of my first piece. Thanks sew much. Happy Quilting and Merry Christmas.
Thank you! I finally found an explanation for the use of leaders 'n' enders. And how 2" square leaders and enders combine into 8-patch blocks. Seeing you demonstrate was quite helpful.
I agree, someone finally explained leaders and enders! Most sites talk about this concept without clearly showing what it is (as if we already know). Thank you for your illuminating demonstration. Even though I don't quilt, just the idea of keeping fabric under the presser foot (and keeping the presser foot down) will be helpful.
This is brilliant! What a great way to use those scrappies that might otherwise have ended up in the garbage. I have a ton of leftovers like this just sitting in a pile that I didn't have the heart to toss out. Now I can give them a new life. Thanks for putting this video together. I would like to see the tutorial you mentioned about the white x blocks.
Hey Katrina, I just came across your video on another forum. Someone posted it when trying to explain leaders and enders. You're famous!!! I'm off to watch you're other vids now. Keep 'em coming!
Hi Katrina, I watched your 1st video and loved it but this one is awesome!! I can't wait to see more. You are very easy to follow and a great spokesperson for Accuquilt "GO".
It's important to always put a piece of scrap fabric (two layers) under the presser foot of your machine. It prevents the metal or plastic from grinding on the feed dogs. Always leave your machine with the foot lowered. If you leave it up, the spring will be compressed and eventually get weak. See, leaders and enders save money on sewing machine repair! Thank you Katrina Kahn and Bonnie K. Hunter
Thank you for this explanation so much better than the last video I watched! I do have a machine that has an automatic cutter so would this just be a technique that would be good to use up scraps and not thread?
This is excellent for using up scraps for sure and it does save on thread by chain piecing and not cutting the thread between each piece. It’s a double win!
Hi Katrina, In this leaders and enders video, you said that you could do another tutorial video on the alternate white x blocks. It would be most helpful if you could do so in order for me to find out how they are done. I am a relatively new quilter and I can't figure it out. Nathalie
I think they have a distributor list on Accuquilt . Com or you could contact them and ask. That would probably be the best way to go. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
@@fishgirl0001so you're saying a scrap of fabric is a leader piece as well as an ender piece? I did watch but I was hoping for a definition to be clearly stated since it's a tutorial and I'm new to quilting. I'm sill unclear as to why someone would need them if this is all they are.
@@susanlash5580 yes - that is all they are. Some people’s sewing machine pulls the thread up inside or even down into the bobbin area if they don’t start and end with a piece of fabric. This starter and ender piece of fabric is what is known as leaders and Enders, or a thread bubbly, or a thread saver (there are numerous names for it). I do demonstrate the use of this at the point in the video that I referenced. HTH
Wow just wow. I need one of those machines! I make crumb quilts I’ve always wanted to make one like these.
love your videos

I just pulled out all my magazines with scrappy quilts. This is a stunning thought, and so easy. Great use for the accuquilt system too.
I've never heard of this before! What a great way to use those smaller pieces, I've always hated to throw them away, but didn't know how to use them.

Thanks so much! I love using leaders and enders and I love making things from them.
Neat idea, I've been using throwaways, but this gives those scraps a useful after-life :)
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Very good idea. Thank you for showing it. Will be doing this from now on.
What a brilliant idea! Thank you!
Thank you!! I was wondering what leaders and enders are. Guess who will be doing this now😊

Another great video. Amazing how quickly those blocks came together. Could you do another video on the quilt top with the Xs, please?
Love this idea!

That's a great idea! I might just do that today ;-) Thanks so much for commenting!
Thank you.. You have made a great vid tutorial
I would love to make a scrappy quilters sweatshirt. Can you please send me the pattern? LOVE it

I did - here you go ua-cam.com/video/jHXUF77q6xM/v-deo.html
Thank you!
I would call that a postage stamp quilt
Almost a postage stamp ;-) A true postage stamp is 1" finished and mine is 1.5" finished :-D
Hi where can I buy this cutter in South Africa

But what is a leader and an ender?? You don't explain that.
Hey there - I suggest you watch the video all the way through. At 2:54 in I actually show you exactly what they are HTH!
