- In this video I film myself Silver Pouring 2000° Silver into a Wooden Mold! Ever since I started pouring silver I have wanted to do a wood pour. The lines on these pieces end up looking so great and I am loving the way that these wooden silver pours turned out! In this video I also show myself casting a pure silver golf ball as a bonus!

So, two things I would recommend doing:
1. Sand the surface of the word. This stops splintering and if it comes from a blue or orange box store removes the factory varnish they spray on a a sealer.
2. Braze the entire board with a torch before you pour. This will stop the silver from skittering and popping as the surface water will already be evaporated and also acts to harden the wood. No need to recaste the first bar as well.
My two cents
Do you know where to buy the equipment to melt silver with, and castings for a mold? Thanks
Elysium not a bad idea! someone else suggested baking the wood fist 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 that's a good idea. why not both? I could see maybe 200 degrees for an hour in the oven then harden off the surface gently with a torch. The popping of the molten metal looks very dangerous and is, of course, caused by moisture in the wood rapidly evaporating. Not only that you will inevitably not recover all of the silver that flys everywhere. I could be wrong and maybe wood will do this regardless of the precautions, but it would be interesting to see the contrast reaction of baked and torched wood vs untreated if any as well as the life of the mold.

Is the furnace I have. bigstackD Casting does videos with one. You can buy molds and a proper crucible on amazon. Likewise you can watch TheKingofRandom's video on a inexpensive diy foundry. I'd also watch The Essential Craftsman for some handy tips about smithing work before committing to anything.
Note: NEVER melt or heat up galvanized anything. Extremely toxic. Do your research before anything and have fun melting stuff!

This is really cool! This is one of those times that makes me want to start pouring. Have a mold of my own to pour and maybe sell. Just thinking out loud. Also, to me it looks like dragon/reptile scales.

Cool video Silver Dragons. I've been wanting to do this too.
Dusty Roads thanks! you should give it a try it is quite fun 😁🔥🐉
I made a furnace by cutting a 55 gallon Harley Davidson oil drum down to a little above half. Added a couple layers of thermal blanket with refractory cement over that. The homemade LP burner is a super simple design which uses a hair drier for forced induction. A low setting is just right, while high pushes the limits of what my cement can handle. I'm using a large salamander graphite crucible at the time, but it's been used primarily for copper. The problem I have in using silver is that the crucible I have is so small. My plans are to do the Oak mold in copper. I can't wait. It's going to be awesome.
Wood pours are awesome!! The only ones I have in my collection are 2 that JAAS made for me and they are amazing!! Have fun with it buddy!
A sand mold of a corncob would probably be cool
Can you revisit this idea! maybe have a custom design routered out of the wood! Cool video!
Sweet pours kinda reminds me of the tombstone bars that golf ball is a nice piece there
stack attacker Wager thanks a bunch and I can see it! 👍🏽🔥🐉
I think slightly scorching the wood with a blowtorch would reduce moisture and the silver spitting out
Hello Silver Dragons
Neat. Maybe pre-toast the wood with a torch so the first pour isn’t so bubbly?
Fascinating, even slow motion is fast.
charles davis lol yeah it’s crazy how it looks 😏🔥🐉
Those are awesome! Dragon skin haha.
Ninja Stacking lol oh Dragon skin for sure!!! 🔥🐉
I have to wonder if different types of wood would give any significantly different results... For example mahogany or teak with very tight woodgrain. The oak you used seems a great first time choice...
Also wonder if a wood burning pen for pyrography would allow you ( or others) to add artistic elements to the bars...
Just some thoughts...
Great video.... BTW
So awesome man! The Silver golf ball is epic!! Imagine doing a Silver basketball, how cool would THAT be!! lol
Bruce Liggett lol a basketball would be like 6 figures 😂😂😂🔥🐉
awsome, ;) just mabe my second ingont of 925 silver bar ;) nice video ;)
Johnny Björkdahl nice and thanks!! 👍🏽🔥🐉
Nice wood pours love the golf ball too who has one of his golf balls ?
Roczilla 😂😂😂 i’m not sure how many golf balls are out there but it’s less than 10 🔥🐉
Great vid! Would love a quench cam.
Robert H lol I know I need one 😂😂😂😂🔥🐉
This is great bud. It's neat to see you wandering around in different pouring mediums. My mentor, "Ag Ender" is in my eyes the king of wood pours. He always had a can to cover the wood pours that keeps the topside of the pours nice and with a lot fewer dimples and shaky things on them. Check him out son.He was monumental for getting me going when I first started pouring. Like this I have done a number of sequential wood pours for various folks. Number them so they can see them change from pour to pour. I finally now have all the bolt cutters from 8 to 42 inch. The big boy will chew up a 10 oz bar in no time so I don't need to make near as much shot as I used to. Well bud, , , What a fun post. Great to see you doing pours from different molds than just graphite. WOOHOO ON YOU SON !
Where do you buy the equipment to do this with? Thanks
Tomoko's Enterprize i’ll have to check him out thanks for the tip my friend!!! yes now I have done clay, graphite, water, and wood. I wonder what is next 😏🔥🐉
philip lippens ua-cam.com/video/jW0YX1e0gxk/v-deo.html
@@SilverDragons47 Shoot for the moon son. Who knows maybe you will discover some new medium to pour into no one else has tried eh.
@@SilverDragons47
Thanks 👍
Oh the humanity!!! Dragon tears everywhere.
john m 😂😂😂😂 he was weeping! 🔥🐉
Second one would have made a cool pendant
3rd one looked like a flatten silver bar planters nut.
Bobby Parks lol it kinda did 😂🔥🐉
Nice work! Cooler than the scottsdale nuggets.
Silver Fox thanks I really appreciate that!! 🔥🐉
I'm guessing the splattering on the first pour is due to moisture in the wood? Likely has gas pockets? Can you pre-char the wood to reduce the moisture? Also prevent some of the excess burning?
Yeah thats pretty epic lol
Bryan Woodard thanks I agree 😁🔥🐉
Would it just be easier to use copper or aluminium first and then on the final pour use silver? Just thinking saving having to dredge impurities out of the first two pours of silver on remelt?
Looks like EPCOT- the ball.
I liked that golf ball, I would have bought it if you have not cut the leg of the golf ball
I was wondering why he clipped that as well
Those are amazing. The golf ball looked like it was on a tee before you sniped off the excess from the poor. Would be cool to display it like that in my opinion.
That Bearded Veteran like this one 😏 ua-cam.com/video/YTbmCWDhfm0/v-deo.html
That’s money 💰
Interesting. Bybee made that 30 ozt sphere but you did it first witha. Golf ball lol
Look at those little spider cracks
Silver Wheels or Dragon scales! 😜🔥🐉
I'm sure by now you know why the mold was spitting as you did mention that before. I say this more for the casual scroller. The reason why is due to the water content in the wood. As it heats up it causes the water to evaporate which then creates gas causing the silver to "spit". This is an interesting idea but if I made a suggestion id say next time to heat the hole in the block of wood before casting to prevent the moisture issue. Probably not going to do a ton but the first pour probably wont be as violent as this one.
Do you always use quarter sawn? Have you tried flat sawn? If so, how were the results? Thanks.
Now if you melt something that’s maybe Sterling or less than .999, do the impurities burn off?
Where do you buy the equipment to melt silver with, and how do you make a mold? I've thought about doing it for years. Thanks
philip lippens mostly ebay and amazon... good luck!! ua-cam.com/video/jW0YX1e0gxk/v-deo.html
hello I will have a question ... Which oven do you use? can i have the link :)
How do I use a torch to burn the board first in the second one usually comes out good
Mrt Stacking yeah that is not a bad idea at all... thanks!! 🔥🐉
Do you have a website were you sell your silver creations? Wondering how much you sell your silver for over spot? Really love the wood molds.
psychout I do not I sell my pours right now live. my next party will be on January 3rd 👍🏽 I charge $28 per ounce with free shipping. these were all trades 🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 - I'll make sure to watch on Jan 3rd, beautiful pieces.
I thought you were rich spilling all that silver until I looked at the date
I'll second the idea of spanking a silver golf ball with a club. You should probably borrow your neighbors clubs for this tho😜
Brandon Curry 😂😂😂 iv got some old clubs i’ll give it a go. 🔥🐉
I thought you would of tapped the wood to get the ripples on the back side.
I'm no silver pourer but maybe if you burned the wood with a torch 1st like the molds so the silver doesn't pop and spit out everywhere
Jonathan Reese yeah probably or maybe if I just bake the wood 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
You know what would make that golf ball? A gold tee. Oh Yeah.
SILVERDRAGON STACKER 😂😂😂 maybe someday i’ll make one. gemini silver made me a silver tee 🔥🐉
I hate you guys. It was bad enough all these vids got me addicted to stacking. Now you had to go and start pouring bars. Now I am searching for a furnace and molds. I really didnt need another addiction!
It is a vise like no other bud !
