Laid waste in the 1980s by the Tories and has never recovered. It was a thriving, bustling place before that.

Doncaster has history .. Roman Town (Danum), Ermine Street (AI Great North Road), once a Castle/Fortress near St Georges, next to the River Don (not shown), once a bustling Market Town, corn, wool, cattle, sheep sales hence Corn Exchange. Doncaster Station (The Plant) where my father worked, famous for Flying Scotsman, Mallard, A4 Pacifics, Stirlings, Ivatts. Doncaster was once the biggest mining town in South Yorkshire. Doncaster Race Course, cater to the oldest horse race St Leger, where Royality Edward VII visited. Stock sales. Hallgate, High Street, St Sepulchre etc. were beautiful Georgian and Victorian buildings. Doncaster Rovers based at Keepmoat Lakeside, Alex Jefferies, Charlie Williams. Kevin Keegan footballer David Cowling Footballer,Jeremy Clarkson, Diana Rigg, Douglas Bader (lived here), Lesley Garrett (Thorne) Sheridan Smith (Epworth), Brian Blessed (Mexborough). The Hub is connected to University of Hull, Lindsey Scunthorpe Colleges (excellent facility), High Melton Teaching College. Great old and new pubs, eating places, clubs, good nightlife! Visit Tourist Centre on High Street. There is Lakeside, 1.8m loop walk, Cinema, Bowling, Eating, The Dome Leisure Facility, Cycling circuit, South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, Supermarkets, Industry & Housing, opposite Doncaster Race Course. Robin Hood Airport just 6 miles south of Doncaster. Lovely villages, Auckley,Bawtry, Branton, Austerfield, Arksey,Campsall, Fishlake, Wadworth, Sprotborough falls, Sykehouse, Barnby Dun, High Melton, Hickleton, Hooton Pagnell,Cusworth House, Brodsworth House, and lots more, with lovely eating places, pubs and churches. Doncaster is a green and leafy area (town fields) etc. Nice fellow Louis Tomlinson, but there is a lot more to Doncaster!
So happy Stamp Corner is still going!
It has moved further up Nether Hall Road, I used to go as a kid.
I'm here because of Louis Tomlinson :)

had to go to Doncaster for work once and got off with a 'lass' after getting off the LNER 25 minutes earlier . Next day another one gives me her number. I lived in my hometown 10 frickn years and never even went on a date, is there something about Doncaster as to why this happened??
Friendliness!
If you aren't from Doncaster people think you're 'exotic'!
That's why there are so many virgins in the south
Got any change for the bus mate
Can you still say this now, I know in the day people were generous.

Nice video, I’ve live in Doncaster for the best part of 45 years👍🏼
The Civic quarter was not mentioned (Council Offices), also has the Cast Theatre, new library, archives in the former Doncaster High School for Girls, the Museum is nearby, and a new Cinema. Also nearby, the Salutation Pub which is flanked by Georgian, Regency & Victorian buildings, Cenotaph near Elmfield Park, Bennetthorpe, Earl of Doncaster.
What about sprotborough??
I believe Doncaster is where the cornerstore was on 'Open All Hours' with Ronnie Barker and David Jason (Frost). It's a hairdresser's salon now.
No Donny video is complete without it.

WOW ITS CRAZY HOW EVERYONE IS HERE FOR LOUIS TOMLINSON! INCLUDING ME LOL
I can remember the days when you could hear people speek english round doncaster
I can remember the hustle and bustle of Doncaster before the Mining Strike when it was a real community.
The White Swan had the highest tap room bar in the UK. The duke box in the late 70's early 80's had a selection of local/South Yorkshire bands, like Human League's 1st single: Being Boiled, The Cabs singles, Uncool Dance Band etc. Popular with New Waves fans, plus reasonable prices at the time.
Beautiful. 😍
A once thriving town, sadly gone to the dogs. Internet shopping, and the closure of all the main industries in Doncaster has seen a once bustling town reduced to fast food, taxi's, barbers, and solicitors......Once it's gone it's gone.
Hi I’m French and I lived in Doncaster for 13 years. I have many happy memories and still have many wonderful friends. What made me leave was the weather and not liking my job anymore. I now live in Gran Canaria. Even though I can’t recognize all the places shown in the video, I had a big grin on my face. 13 years don’t count for nothing. Oh... and I love the South Yorkshire accent!!!!
You are right. In its day it was thriving, especially when the pits were open. The market has reduced which was bustling on Tues, Fri, Sat. People use to stop and chat, and you could once hear laughter. The Mining Strike made a difference to Doncaster and since then it has declined. The High Street etc. has lots of empty shops but with reduce rates (Roz Jones) they could be reopened. Why not have cottage and Art industries in the empty shops. Homelessness saddens me, and I am sure there are empty places to accommodate. I believe when Jo Brand did her sports comic relief 150 mile walk, she said the South Yorkshire people were the most generous for a deprived area.
I’ve been lived at Doncaster almost 6 years . I never thought how much miss me this shit hole . It was great time there and if I could I do it again
Same I moved to Australia and I thought ide never miss Donny but I really do

Despite the recent recession and the internet shopping, there is barely a empty store in Doncaster. This film did the place no favours; filmed on a grim day and showing you the outskirts of town. The shopping centre shown briefly here, is lovely huge and still doing quite well. They have built thousands of new homes too and there is new industry, so i disagree with some of the negative comments here. It's not the best place to live, but it has got more positives than this film suggests.
Hi Nick, thanks for the comment. To clarify, I wasn’t trying to make an advert for or against Donny. I literally got off of the train and went for a largely aimless circular walk. The Minster being the only place I really wanted to film. If you watch my other urban films (most recently Middlesbrough), you’ll see they follow the same format. I just film what I see when I’m there, capturing that exact location and moment. Cheers.
I was born in donny.i live in Swindon due to my job. But I wish I could just clear off where I live and move here. I always walk through the town centre. Frenchgate shopping is ace. I could do this all day.
Anyone here for our baby dom??
I’m three minutes into this video and they’ve not left the train station. The only reason I’m still watching is because I live in #doncasterisgreat and it actually is great by the way. We have an amazing town. So may things. I will watch the rest but I suspect nobody else will. If this is meant to be neutral then god help us if it’s biased.
Are you any relation to Barry? I was his apprentice years ago.
If you wannae daft lass, visit Doncaster.
My hometown, it has its low points, but Saint Georges is stunning and my own village is home to one of the oldest churches in England 🥰
5:58 this part is equal to russia
Bizarre! Completely missed the cultural and civic quarter and instead gave us a tour of the red light district. Yes, really!
I wandered aimlessly, I don’t know the town, I just had a couple of hours to kill. I put one foot in front of the other. I didn’t even know there was a red light district or a cultural quarter.
@@stuartmoss I wouldn't worry - the red light district is more interesting than the cultural quarter anyway. Though you do have to go in the dark, which I wouldn't recommend.
is it just me or does this guy show all the bad bits, he never goes into sprotbrough and up to park drive area, only shows the scruffy area
This guy just had two hours in the city centre, I had no means of getting out into the sticks as I was on the train, I liked the varied architecture.
Bloody hell. What a waste of 25 mins. You literally just showed town centre buildings. Better off going on google street view
Who the f Is Louis
