    No need to remove the pulley assembly. Just feed the belt over and the idler and with a bit of effort pull the belt through gap between pulley and guard. I pulled battery for access to rear drive, and the deck removed so I could get my head in to see the idler.

    • @TryAdaptLearn

      This makes a lot of sense. It seems like removing the pulley would be excess for a common maintenance item and there would be easier access to complete the process.

    Wow! All I did was stick my hand in there and put the belt on rear pully first, and front pully last. Just have to remove belt guard which is what cut my belt. I threw the belt guard away since it was what caused it to get cut by the pully Belt was caught between belt guard and pully cut. With belt guard off the belt will never get cut, and can easily be slipped back on. I also removed belt guards on the deck because belt also slipped off getting caught between the belt guards. So none of the belt guards did their job, instead they pinch and cut the belts.

      No matter what you choose, good luck with your belt. It’s easier if you drop the mower deck and then the plate for the pulleys. I haven’t had time to make another video with a more efficient process, but I’ll likely do it the next time I replace one.

  • @NWMarshalLaw
    @NWMarshalLaw 3 роки тому +5

    This is way harder than it needs to be. There is no need to remove pulleys or cut the belt.
    Simply remove the deck and then you can remove the old belt and install the new belt easily.

    • @TryAdaptLearn
      @TryAdaptLearn  3 роки тому +2

      Agreed. It would be easier to leave the pulleys. A compromise for leaving the pulleys is that there is no access from the top. The belt has to be installed from the front or back. The biggest challenge would be that the belt is a tight fit in a tight spot because on one side there is a the metal belt guard/guide that the belt has to be squeezed into. Other than that it would be easier then the process recorded in this video.

      This video did not include two helpful things. 1. Remove the deck. 2. Drop the panel that the pulleys are installed on. The fasteners are on the sides of the panel (and sides of the frame). It drops down with the pulleys and can be reinstalled with the pulleys. Reinstalling it will help with another person but can be done with one person. Dropping the panel minimizes the need to pull the springs back so it’s also safer.

      The whole plate is actually easier and likely the best way. Everything can be disassembled and reassembled on the plate. It should be safer while working with the springs. You just need someone to hold the plate, if not a jack stand or something solid to hold it while you reinstall the fasteners.

    When taking the engine pully off how do you keep the engine from turning??

    • @TryAdaptLearn
      @TryAdaptLearn  3 роки тому +1

      Once all safety precautions were done (remove key, disconnect battery, disconnect spark plug wires, disconnect deck drive belt, jack stands) I was able to remove the pulley with an impact that could rotate very fast with an extreme amount of torque to remove the fastener holding the pulley before the engine could turn. It's shown at about 40-45 seconds into the video. Without an air or electric impact, I do not know how I would have done it. My best guess is that I would have tried to use something to hold the pulley itself without damaging it.

    I 'm new to this. Why the belt looks so lose? Is that ok?

    • @TryAdaptLearn
      @TryAdaptLearn  2 роки тому +1

      It could be the camera angle. The drive belt from the engine to the hydrostatic drive it tight until the engine pulley is off. The deck belt from the engine pulley to the deck may look loose on this model. The deck belt/pto is manually engaged with a lever on this model. If it were an electric pto, the belt may appear to be tight on the pulley.

    excellent video ..........my only problem is i got the bolt out of the main pulley but can not get it to slide down so i can put the belt on ......

    • @TryAdaptLearn
      @TryAdaptLearn  3 роки тому

      Just a few opinions: If the main pulley is the engine pulley you can try spraying penatrating oil or WD-40 from the top down. It can be wiped off once the bole and pulley come off. If the main pulley is the idler pulley, maybe the bolt can't come down because the nut at the top needs to be removed with a wrench on the bolt and another on the nut. If the nut at the top is off the idler pulley, I would try spraying penatrating oil or WD-40 on the bolt from the top of the pulley and use leverage from a hand tool like a flat head screw driver push the top of the bolt down to get the bolt out.

    • @TryAdaptLearn
      @TryAdaptLearn  3 роки тому

      Another thing I see from looking back at the video is that the belt was installed on and around the second pulley on the idler bracket before the bracket was held in position while installing the bolt (and main pulley) for the idler bracket.

      The best thing is to try to start with those pulleys first and disassemble them. Worst case scenario you can try pushing the new belt in past the guard but had to be careful damage it when squeezing it in.

I dismounted the entire engine, jacked it up off the frame high enough so I could feed the belt up through the frame hole under the engine. Then I put all the bolts back in. Start with the two small bolts on the side mounted plate, that helps you to center the engine for the bottom bolts/screws. That two pulley plate is a real bear to deal with. I didn't take the plate off. I took the screws out and pulled it down just enough to un-bolt the bolt on one of the pulleys so I could raise it up and get enough room to slide the belt over it. This whole thing took me 3 hours. I DO NOT want to ever do that again!
