- Since publishing our last video covering the glorious sounds of the Acura TLX Type S Active Exhaust ( • Acura TLX Type S Activ... ) we had a chance to pull the system off and review all the sizes and specs.
Of course, Heeltoe is planning a future ATLP exhaust development so we are mostly interested in where we can find opportunities to improve the system. And we did find that the sizing of this system leaves some flow on the table!
In this video, we review the front pipe, middle pipe, and tailpipe designs. We also take a look at the exhaust valve actuator and the butterfly valve actuator for the active system. - Авто та транспорт
Another awesome video! My Apex Blue / Orchid with Y spoke is sitting in the service department of my dealership awaiting PDI. Horrible timing with Monday being Labor Day! One more day!
great vid! cant wait to see what you guys cook up. i got impatient and went to get custom exhaust work on my type s 😂
Great vid!!! I’d like to see a DEEPER sounding exhaust set up on the TypeS for sport mode if possible.
Very well done! Such an intriguing exhaust. I was going to just replace the mid pipe on my ‘22 type S, but after this I think I’ll do a down pipe and larger piping mid pipe and leave the oem mufflers! Thanks!🙏🏾
Thanks for watching! Yes this is different from other Honda exhausts we have seen in many ways. Have you seen the ATLP Active quads? They take the OEM layout to a completely higher place!
I would imagine going from 3in, to 2 3/4in, to 2 1/4 all the way back. Great video and I'm looking forward to more content on the Type S.
3" to dual 2.25" is the plan!
@@Heeltoe. epic. I’m following you since I bought my Tein coilovers about a year ago. Keep it up 😎
Thx for this vid I wound up purchasing a cat back valvetronic exhaust from functionwerk which sounds terrific, now I'm waiting for my ATLP 3 inch high flow A-pipe from Heeltoe which is enroute so I'm looking forward to the combination of the two
Thanks much ! Those A-Pipes should be shipping in about a week we think! Also the final ATLP cat-back prototype is nearly ready to share.
love the cl7 in back im daily my cl9 manual now after my bagged ub7 v6 got totaled going to buy type s in few days hope to follow ya work
Right on! We're here for any Honda-Acura parts needs!
Love the content
Can’t wait!!!
I wonder if you can remove the flange in the actuators without throwing a code? Great vid...I have a type s in white pearl! I don't drag, but is a good canyon/back hills carver with the Michelin 4s IMO.
Good question I'll try it!
@@Heeltoe. did y’all ever experiment with this?
I would think the S bends could be shallowed out a bit. Another youtuber custom made a downpipe for it and that alone opened up some nice power. A full exhaust rebuild on this would work wonders. Great job
Yea we saw that! Car is in for exhaust testing this week!
@@Heeltoe. Any updates on the exhaust? Can't wait to get more sound out of my Type S 🙌🏽
Wish it was as fast as it sounded. I guess that's what you guys at HT are here for. Looking forward to the aftermarket performance before I buy.
It's pretty quick man, it is a fast car. It's not the fastest but come on, that does not mean it isn't fast!
Please let me know when this is develops!!!!!!! I would love sport mode for every day!! And then something louder for track and lol maybe normal as new comfort
Our ATLP cat back has been selling for the last year already! Find more here: ua-cam.com/video/pDZbo8xp67E/v-deo.html
Nice video! What lift are you using if you don’t mind me asking.
An old Benwil two-poster. Nothing special. $1500 used.
Any ETA for the exhaust system? Excited for it!!
No eta yet but working away on it!
They took this idea from the past . The Mitsubishi 3000GT vr4 had active exhaust in the 90’s .
Hi! It's possible to remove just the silver cap part of the exhaust tips and paint it in black and to put it back without damaging the exhaust system. Sorry I'm new on this thing. Thanks you in advance for replying.
No clue on that. Just looking to change the look of the factory tips? I am sure you can pull them off the car and paint.
@@Heeltoe. I'll give it a try. Thank you.
Do you know what size flanges they use in the mid pipes?? Thanks
There is one flange at the front of the exhaust (front of the B-pipe) and one at the right rear muffler. I measured the one in the front because need it for a cat-back. The other flange I didn't because it seem irrelevant.
Do you have an eta on when an cat back exhaust will be developed with Heeltoe?
We're in the middle of working on it now!
@@Heeltoe. I am excited for it. I can’t wait to hear how it sounds because I am waiting for an exhaust system that will improve the sound but also work with the active exhaust system.
Any update on the eta?
When you unplug the muffler flap Actuators do they open or close? Are they powered to open or powered to close?
We didn't check that but we will be able to answer that later!
@@Heeltoe. Well I just checked mine, and when the cars is off the flap is open. Thx for reply.
Did you see if you get any codes/lights if you disconnected the actuator?
Doesn't Heel Toe sell the honda popper removal tool?
We do! But the newer clips do not have a land area for the popper to work so, back to the old flat-head for the new concentric clips.
Just a question, but does the J30AC (the motor of the tlx type s) have VCM (Variable Cylinder Management)? I've heard it twice now and haven't been able to find proof that it does.
It does but man you CAN NOT tell.
@@Heeltoe. but is it more refined? I heard that vcm was a design flaw and was famous for burning oil? Is it much better and more reliable now?
@@ashwinthiagarajan2650 VCM is Design flaw? VCM is designed to improve fuel economy. In the past people have said they did not like how it worked, wasn't very smooth or seamless maybe. I drove it 2000 miles on the highway and never noticed it at all. This car I have not had long enough to know anything about oil burning.
@@Heeltoe. yes, I know it's designed to save fuel while just cruising. And trust me, I love Honda/Acura engines as well. But I heard that in previous gen accords, odysseys, pilots, Acuras, etc. That had the V6 with vcm, that the system would burn oil and after 60k miles would cause some serious damage to the engine.
The reason being is that while those 3 other cylinders are shut down, they are still moving up and down. So oil needs to be circulated so that the pistons don't wear out. However, since no air is getting in, it would cause a vacuum. As a result, the oil ends up getting slushed all over the cylinder heads and when it comes time to feed fuel to those cylinders, the oil is burned, and the spark plugs and rest of the cylinder become black and ashy.
Again, this is just from what I have heard and seen on vcm and their problems. Interesting technology with great intentions, but if Honda/Acura haven't solved the issue from what I stated above then that's not good.
I was just wondering if the type s motor has those issues fixed?
@@ashwinthiagarajan2650 I don't have any info on and changes to the VCM strategy on this completely new engine. If I hear anything will let you know!
Would a 3" single exit help it out?
We have a complete new system in the works!
Man!… Honda makes some gigantic mufflers! Wonder how much those big ole tanks weigh…?
Given they are connected to the entire cat back it is hard to say.
What size are the tips on the type s
Just a smidge over 4"
any updates on this? thanks
We are midway through the performance ATLP prototype!
I would love an Armytrix kind of sound, but they don't have anything for this car yet so this is at least an idea but I've been waiting for a similar aftermarket exhaust with a ferocious sound
Thanks for the suggestion! We are definitely looking to up the attitude of the TLX-S.
I just received info that heeltoe has come up with an aftermarket exhaust, & now they are fine tuning it, if they can get the right sound I'll be first in line
how you guys making out with this?
EXTREMELY CLOSE! Final test mufflers arriving any day now. ATLP FTW!
updates on this?
Working away! Putting in lots of time on our ATLP Cat-Back trying to get it just right.
First move, chuck that stupid second cat. Its got no sensors on it or after it so wont affect the ecu, and gurantee it really brings the sound up.
Mental note, buy clip remover before lift.
Ha yea, the popper tool we have does not work on these newer clips.
I was expecting him to start that shit up open header
Ha! Hmm, yea maybe I should have ripped it DP-OUT. I just don't think that way tho.
if varexx can do it you can!
Thanks for that encouragement :)
These guys " Car isn't loud enough", me " The car needs more power to pull that fat ass"....waiting on tuning options.
Bro we in the same boat. Im finding it hard to justify this at 53k let alone all the dealership markups in my area. By the time it hits the used market there better be some turbo swaps or tuning options. Thing weighs like a 5 series but less power SMH
Oops 😬 I wore a Ferrari shirt but worked on an Acura.... 🤔 Hmmm?
Haha, I know right? I love that shirt. Came direct from Itlay.
@@Heeltoe. can't argue that screams v 12...👍💪
Wait, are you borrowing someone’s new Type-S and taking it apart for making this video? Awww hell naw!!
No! hah it is OUR car :)
