I found out about this animated short around ten years ago, but I'd seen this part out of context since I was a kid in the Disney halloween specials. It's very good animation but I always wondered where it came from. And isn't it nice when you've seen all the classic, golden-age Disney animated movies and most of the shorts growing up only to find out there's more?
It used to be featured annually on Sunday night's "The Wonderful World of Disney." (there used to be these big boxes with tubes in them called "televisions," 😂)
Many years ago I adopted a very old and very fat black cat that was in need of a home. At the time I was studying ancient Rome, so I named him 'Maximus Faticus' or Max for short.
I like all animals, even rats. No animal is evil or demonic. Just trying to get by. Yes, rats get into the grain supply, but not because they are the devil, just opportunistic . What I thought was interesting was how they drew the rats. I have never seen a shaggy rat, and I raised ducks, so I saw a lot of them. They drew them a lot like how they drew menacing wolves.
Ah, so you noticed it too! (If you REALLY want to see some recycled Disney animation, check out their short The Truth About Mother Goose. I grew up in a small farm community and one day out of the blue the city decided to take an initiative to get rid of all the stray cats in town and over a few year where you would see lots of dead cats on the road you saw none. We didn't grow grain, we grew grass hay for cattle so they didn't eat the crops but I'd rather have cats than I would mice. I don't think stray cats ever got anyone sick or anything, the city counsel wanted to get rid of then one day. The skunk population also exploded, I don't know if they just didn't like being in cat's territory or they were killed by cats but there were tons of dead skunks on the road, and that IS NOT pleasant.

It makes me sad that some people still see black cats as bad luck or witches. This Halloween someone threw a week old black kitten out of a car on the highway I live off of. The worse is that Satanists will get black cats and sacrifice them. I'm all for saving black cats. I've got a little black girl myself. And my son recently rescued a pregnant black cat someone dumped on a busy bridge. Saved her from getting run over and is now helping to raise her kittens and find them good homes. 3 blacks and 1 grey and just starting to learn to play.

I had a black cat named "midnight". He was the smallest of his litter, but he grew to be the biggest and the strongest. He was like a pint-sized panther in every way possible.
I believe that was the reason why this unholy religion exterminated cats. Until today, in my city for example, cats are hunted and poisoned, especially black ones.
Fear of cats is not a very common thing in today's world. And of the few who might fear cats, I'm sure it's not out of "ignorance." Like most legitimate, serious fears, it's rarely rooted in ignorance, but rather in psychosis or mental conditions. And hell, there are far more people afraid of dogs, snakes, heights, insects, etc.
