The VA for Ayre should've won an award for this. She sells the sense of pain, betrayal, desperation and anger so well. She genuinely sounds like a close friend that you've hurt / backstabbed.
Given you are her only friend in the entire game, it only makes it worse from her perspective. The only one who heard her voice, one she thought understood her, now trying to destroy her whole family and her

Coral is so much more social then humans
Coral loves company
They don't stray apart naturally
Only by force they can be seperated
It wasn't a condemnation of her kind, but ours.
Most V.A in this game are excellent indeed.
wasn't expecting you to see you here... Ayre ! cut the goddamn coral supplies off ! this isn't funny
When Ayre reaches her hand out before her mech explodes still believing there is a chance even at the end was devastating.
I had to do this route first because I wanted to be sure I was on Ayre's side twice in the end

"I realize what you are... The spark of war..." The genuine sadness, pain, and realization that putting you down is her job now. This game has brought me closer to tears more times than any other
Sadness??
When she called me the Spark of War. I got excited. I got happy. I got enthralled. Because that's exactly what I am.
I am the entity to end all wars.
I am the destroyer of companies through multiple generations.
I am an Armored Core pilot.

Me: "Harsh, but OK."
FS: "But eventually you make friends, and you earn the respect of everyone around you. They eventually open up to you and each show you a glimpse of humanity and love; a warmth from the cold desolation you started out with."
Me: "Cool, sounds like a great story and fun arc."
FS: "And then you have to choose which of those people you kill, as they all have conflicting motivations. ;)"

tbh I want games to hurt me more like this.
This game made me hesitate and brace myself for the very real possibility of having to kill who I didn't side with.

I feel like the thing about me being a spark of war caught me off guard cause without knowing of this ending i named my AC "Spark of War"

That's why Fromsoft is absolute GOAT when comes to writing. They don't shove exposition right into our throat. It's all for us to decipher but when moment comes? Damn, it hits hard.
There's no good ending. Everything have Consequences. We're either mercilessly murdering our friend, mercy killing our father figure or force humanity to evolve.
And we have to pull the trigger. There's no other way.
That’s great way to put it. Well said.
im sorry walter
Sadly, for some people, not having expositions and cutscenes to explain bit by bit the story to them = the game has a bad story, or worse, the game has no story.
Even excluding the fact that we put Walter out of our misery and “liberate” Rubicon III from the corps, it’s only a temporary solution and they will be coming back to get their due, leaving Raven and Ayre to figure out a way out of this mess themselves.
@@MaidenlessScrub don't get me wrong, i love armored core, from software and (most) of their design choices, but some people wank from as if they're the second coming of jesus christ himself.
like, the story is good. yeah. but it isn't this monumental GREATEST OF ALL TIME masterpiece, and it doesn't have to be. the combat, yes! that deserves praise beyond compare, but saying the writing is incredible because it conveys feeling without exposition and cutscenes is akin to saying every single book ever written is incredible because there isn't a sparknotes summary at the end to tell you how to feel about it.
What I still find the most wild about this situation is the line "I know you can still see it. The voices of the coral." Implying that 621 was maybe hearing at this point more then just Ayre, and even then they made the decision to burn it all away no matter what happened. No hesitation, no breaks, all the stops were pulled. Just to burn it all.
Makes you think is Arye even an individual? Or a share consciousness of all the local Coral. How much is she lieing about? Just to make you help her start the convergence.
Cuz Thumb's Coral companion already knew about the coral convergence. She why didn't Arye? Or was Arye lying to make us be on her side?
@@bombomos Oh, stop with your pontifications. From Software's stories are always sincere with their message. The only lie she's ever made is a lie by omission (that being her as a Rubiconian, though even then she wasn't exactly lying either. She *is* Rubiconian. It took her a while to figure out that 621 hasn't realised she's Rubiconian as in Coral and not a human of Rubicon and was quick to apologise for that omission).
And no, Thumb Dolmayan and Seria do not actually know what Coral Release entails. All they know is that Release will bring humans and Coral together and become something else entirely. Whatever they will become, they will not be just humans or just Coral anymore. A shared existence. Humanity and Coral as we know it will no longer exist. In its place it's a different existence, and there's no precedence to help predict what kind of existence that could be. Thumb's terrified of this unknown while Seria's more excited by the potential and promises of this evolution.
Even then, Seria still respected Dolmayan's wishes when he said he wanted no part in this. Dolmayan, on his end, seemed regretful about what he had done and in his dying breath cried out to Seria in regret.
Also to note both Dolmayan and Seria do not know where Coral Convergence is. Only the PCA and ALLMIND know as they had been monitoring the growth of the Coral ever since the Fires. Walter sort of know, or rather, he suspected where it could be considering his family's history with the Coral and the research around Coral. Ayre doesn't exactly know about it but she can feel its pull since, you know, she's Coral. As Walter already said, Coral instinctively will flock together. This is exactly why he had the Watchpoint blown up, because he knows the released Coral will instinctively flock towards the highest concentration of Coral (the Convergence).

I've done this fight so many times and she might be my favorite boss in the game, but man I feel like a bastard every time.
Its the fight I enjoy the most.
She was really hard since it was my first ending. Mostly thought that path would lead me to fighting Snail at the end instead of the other ending allowing me to kill him.
This fight made me sad and then the narrator called me a monster after and now I feel empty.
Betray your friends, or Betray the group that wants to avenge their friends.
It really gives that feeling, but at least you're destroying the world with passive means, you're not going on everyone's house and personally killing them, like on For Answer. Not that it makes things any better...
I absolutely love how her dialogue exemplifies how she doesnt know how to fight, how she doesnt want to fight, it really is telling that to get this ending you have to kill the most peaceful person you meet
Forgive me Ayre :( You will always be best girl
After finishing the end for her, my heart was broken, this is the first game I've played from FromSoft, hit me like a truck like when I lost BT.
Which hurts the most? Betraying your friends? or Betraying Humanity? Doesn't matter anymore. Just get up Raven. Time to go out with a bang.
Its all a job 621. All of jt
"You are determined to carry on Walter's will, and commit a great sin in his stead... I respect your resolve! But I *cannot* allow this to happen."
Might be my favourite line and a great insight into her character, although heart struck, being the only thing between a genocide on a human population and an alien lifeform.
She still finds the strength to understand why we're doing this, she understands and she pleas with us throughout the fight, and I also believe 621 would also enjoy the idea to lay down the weapons and find an alternative, considering we seem to have been affected by the loss of contact with her (Carla saying she thinks we also lost a friend) but what alternative is there? Just hope a collapse doesn't happen? The risk is great and she understands that too in the LoR ending.
They're basically kindred spirits on opposite side of a war, both understanding the reason they're each other's foe.

I have been searching for something like this specifically because I absolutely love the way that “spark of war” bit sounds. Thanks!

Ya know weirdly in that moment I felt like Walter fighting us, I didn’t want to win, hell I’d settle for losing if only FS would have allowed it, like Walter I wished I could just put down my weapons and stop, but I just keep coming back, so I felt going into this saying “I’ve got a job for you, Ayre…stop me…please…as many times as it takes.”
This is the saddest fight in fromsoft history, I felt like crying when I defeat Ayre
The thing that makes games emit so much more emotion than movies is that YOU are the character. WE are Raven.

2:04 wait hold up when does she say that ? I have done the fight without os tuning and loader 4 and even on that run I didn't hear it "which had the battle taking over 15 minutes and around 50 tries so i would have heard that eventually"
I wanna say it’s dialogue that didn’t make it into the game
@@blazet3795 Yeah that and about carrying Walters will is also cut
What Raven doesn’t realize is that humans are trapped in the coral. What Ayre doesn’t realize is that the earth corps will take the coral and the never ending war will continue. Walter doesn’t just fight for rubicon, he fought for humanity.
But in reality. I think both Walter and Cindy were both over pressured by their own voices. You see Ayre isn’t the only one. There are voices that are haunting Walter and he is tormented by them.
So what is the answer. Let the fires of rubicon fade into nothingness or take that flame called Ayre and try to fight for a future where the victims of war can live side by side of the survivors of war so that one day with hope…there are no more wars haunting humanity.
I think Ayre partially misinterpreted Carla and Walter’s intentions. In the first Fires, the Fires of Iblis, people became trapped in the coral, removed from their bodies, removed from connection to other people, no one, not even the other trapped individuals could hear them. Walter in a most destructive and desperate action, may have sought out a solution. “Where there is coral, there is blood.” This idea did not just simply mean people would die and kill to obtain coral, but that people died as a result of coral, those who were trapped are dead, their voices ghosts of a life long passed. To Walter, the fires of raven was an act of mercy.
At least that’s how I see it so far. I haven’t gotten the full picture yet myself, but we’ll see what Allmind has to say.

That was my first ending, and I... Kinda don't regret it? Fires of Raven looked like a thing «real» Raven would do: complete the misson, avenge Walter, stick with the Overseer until the end. And it's really controversial, but I'd say that this is the closest ending to the «true» one out of the first 2, which *ends* the Rubicon wars for granted. Allmind ending is basically the same: there's nothing to wage wars for *and nobody to do it.* Though, in second case we have a f#%king rogue AI and everyone is dead anyway, so I don't think it's better.
What was that speech for? Idk, just wanted to say that war crimes are fun and Overseer did nothing wrong.
There is no good nor bad endings. There are materialist (Walter's way), idealist (Ayre's way) and spiritualist (Allmind's way).
“I saw the potential for our future-“
I’ve never had a future Ayre… I have to make the present
So this is the bad ending that you have become a monster that you seek just like in ACFA lol?
Ayre has a somewhat ambiguous way of emotional manipulation through constant pressure and guilt. there is never any evidence that coral symbiosis would be beneficial to humanity, yet she is always subtly pushing the idea despite 621 being human. All sources actually point to the opposite, that Coral is simply too dangerous.
Once you see past the whole "waifu in your head" business, Its pretty clear that this is a character who would play along to get what they want until direct confrontation is required, and she isn't afraid to fight to the death for her rather selfish ideal.
Maybe it's because I'm terrible with people, but I just could not come to trust the red glitchy voice born from an unstable energy source. all I could see was red flags the whole way through.
Sorry but the entire point of the story flew over your head.
Ayre never once tries to manipulate Raven into doing anything , she simply tries to show Raven that Coral (And by extension Rubicon) deserves a chance outside of Overseer/The Corporations , by getting him contracts with the RLF , taking him on missions exploring Rubicon's History , and never demanding anything of him , unlike Walter or the Corps.
She hopes kindness and humanity can reach 621's heart , a gambit that may or may not pay off.
There really is no source pointing to Coral being dangerous except intentional mis-use , like the Corps or Dolmayan did.
I find it funny that you critique Ayre for being willing to...fight for her life and that of her family? Coral is Sentient , my guy. It has feelings. It has thoughts. It can form bonds. It isn't Gasoline.
The actual humans in the game are willing to fight you for 200.000 COAM , Ayre only fights you when her race is about to get burned alive (for the 2nd time , may i add). Calling self-defense selfish is silly.
@@baisansebastian3358 Choosing the Liberator of Rubicon path showed that, despite all the surgeries and augmentations and essentially just being a meat puppet piloting an AC, Raven had some form of humanity left. Fires of Raven showed that we were loyal to the man who gave everything to get us to where we were, no matter who or what we had to burn to remain loyal to him and his final wishes.
Alea Lacta Est showed that, no matter what generation of Armored Core you're playing, there's always an AI in the background pulling the strings. And that AI will always be a two-phase boss fight *(fuck you Nine Ball for starting this trend).*

@@Mobius_118 Except Raven canonically likes Ayre , enjoys her company , and is fighting for her as well (By Walter's own words) even in the FoR ending path.

Well I mean everyone associated with the Overseers with Allmind doing the same thing in the 3rd ending. Aside from that everything was our choice along with hers to protect her kind and die by our hand.
Everyone in this game is using and manipulating you. Ayre is no different. She just mainly prefers emotional manipulating.
The difference with Walter is that he is, at least, honest about it. He is not your friends or trying to bs you in pretending to be one.
Just do the job and get paid.
