HI Andrew firstly love your video and the production style. I am thinking about the 600 because of the room size but was also just going to get a polk sub. However my denon x3600 support 2 subs. Would you get like 2x 8" or 10" or 1x 10 or 12 with these. Do you not like the polk subs?
Thanks! After watching alot of your videos, got the r700 (refurbished.) Powered by onkyo tx-8160; may upgrade power, but in no hurry. Sounds great. Jazz and classical, as good as expected. Rock - better than expected. The sludge in alice in chains is now sparkling, complex sludge. Sounds great at all volumes, looks great. Thanks for (both of your) illuminating reviews!
First, thank you for your support Phil! We really appreciate it. Second, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying your R700s, they are truly great speakers!
Interesting. I own both the R700 and R600, and I'd agree with the assessment. The R600 isn't quite as cohesive as the R700. But actually it can be a bit more enjoyable to listen to sometimes because it has a little more presence to it. Neither of them are fatiguing to listen to, which is exactly what I wanted in a speaker. And they still maintain a great sound-stage without needing to emphasize the highs to achieve that. I've had them for a year, and still am loving them. I find I don't need a sub at all for the R600. I have them in a living room/kitchen area with a more reflections (not fully carpeted), and I found positioning them well produces a fantastic low end; it is so enjoyable to listed to music with weight to it in the lows, because it does such a great job. A subwoofer does a better job of distributing the bass around the room better, but if you don't have the space in a room, you may find the room doesn't need it with the R600s.
Thanks for the amazing review. It made me feel good about my recent purchase. I purchased the R-600's vs the R-700's based on the smaller size of my room. I purchased directly from Polk and received 10% off and a free PSW10 subwoofer. Still getting things adjusted, but the early results are amazing. Thanks for the reviews!
It's interesting how each speaker in the Polk Reserve lineup has a different character due to cabinet size. The R700 is incredible. From what I've heard, they are every bit as good as the JBL HDI-3800. I chose to get the smallest Reserve towers, the R500, and I am happier with them than I was with my 2006 B&W DM603 S3 towers. In my smaller space, the R500s seem like a perfect fit.
Great review. I made the mistake of getting the Klipsch RP 6000F instead of the 8000F. I think one should save up and get the larger speaker in this case the Polk R700. Lesson learned. In your space, white finishes are beautiful. Thanks Kristi. Sorry Andrew that one goes to the Mrs. I always factor in the price of a sub because a sub not only expands the bass frequencies but also helps open up the mid range as well. Happy Sunday. Cheers
Thanks for the review. We shouldn’t forget the around 2000 €/$ cost that r700 brings because of the required amplification. I own r700 and paired them with my denon x3700h and audiolab 8300a, but the sound wasn’t satisfying. So I tried 3 amplifiers, namely Cambridge Audio Azur 851A, Rotel RA-1592 MKII and audiolab 8300MB(monoblocks). At the end, I chose audiolab 8300MB. But with the right amplification, r700 is THE pair of speakers that I always wanted.
I've had my Polk R700's ( in walnut ) for a couple months now and I was lucky to get them, I was on a waiting list and was fortunate enough to get the 1st call when a pair came in. Mine are powered by an NAD power amp ( 272 ) for the bass driver and an NAD integrated amp ( 372 ) for the mid range/tweeters. You don't need a sub, when people listen to them the first thing they ask me is my sub on. These are impressive speakers when you drive them with lots of power.
As an old Polkie the Reserve series is Polks first offering in many years that have them returning to their roots of the 70’s &80”s where their Monitor Series were great sounding at affordable prices. I still have several pairs of vintage polks in my home and enjoy them. The R700 and the reserve series are hopefully a sign of things to come from Polk moving forward. Cheers from Perth Australia. 👍
Your professional and up-front, honest review consistently brings me back. I appreciate the comparisons; especially when you're able to articulate the nuances between the speakers that are the most similar to what you're reviewing. Entertaining, in addition to being educational to watch; very easy for your audience to feel yours and Kristi's passion for your audiophile-ness (recovering-status notwithstanding 😂). I am truly a Polk fan now. After owning the "budget" R200 for almost a year I was kinda blown away by them. I love them. I upgraded to the R700 about a month ago. Using them for 2ch. with an Arcam PA240 amp I am very happy. They are indeed huge but I can put them much closer to the wall than the R200 with no ill effects. It was Andrew's review on the R700's that peaked my interest and I'm glad I purchased them. The R200 (with proper sub integration) can get one pretty close to the R700 sound, maybe even better midrange..but the R700 definitely gives one the better overall experience. They are pretty good for the money.
@@eugene9000pro No I don't think one necessarily needs a sub with the R700. For most I think the speakers will be enough. I will say the R700's bass improved after a few hundred hours. My REW measurements can back that up. Bass improved over time. Adding a sub to the R200 will definitely make the sound & presentation better in my opinion. There is a big difference between the R200 & R700 but the comparison is much much smaller if you have an R200 and sub..as long as the sub is integrated properly. The mids and highs are almost the same. R700 just throws a bigger fuller sound. I initially bought the 700's so I could get rid of my living room sub..but using the sub just made it better so I ended up keeping it. To me subs make a difference if implemented well. Do you use crossovers or DSP, EQ? How much were you planning to spend on a sub? You could sell your R200 for like $400 or more, put that with whatever you were going to spend on a sub and you might be kinda close to the R700 price. Here's my opinion. If you are totally satisfied with your Source (streamer/CD/or turntable) Dac or Preamp, and amplifier I would say go for the R700. If you feel you want to or maybe need to upgrade any of those I'd say get a subwoofer and keep the R200. You can build around the R200 & Subwoofer and be happy with the sound, and notice improvements with new pieces of gear. If you buy a sub make sure it's a good one and has everything you need..one that you can use in the future with any speakers or system. Get a good one the 1st time... unless you find a decent, budget priced one to get by with. Sorry I babbled on and maybe didn't give you a good answer but I don't know a lot about the rest of your system or room size. Good luck and if you have any other questions I'll try to help.
@@eugene9000pro I have the R200s on stands with the R400 center and HTS 12 run by my Yamaha RX-A3080 and the sound stage is incredible. I'm getting the R700s delivered next week to complete my surround setup, and I can't imagine how much the towers will add. BUT... if I wasn't getting the R700s, I would be totally happy with what I have now. You could totally get a center and sub for the price of 1 R700, or by "change" I suspect you would sell your R200s for the R700s? You wouldn't be wrong either but would just be more cost. It maybe the better long term investment as I imagine these R700s will be speakers folks will hold onto for a long time, and you could build around them.
@@NosEL34 thanks for a detailed answer. I have a top chinese dac Yulong DA8 and Hypex nc252mp (250w/ch) amp. R200 with them sound amazing, except when turning up the volume the room (4.5*5 m) start singing. I'm living in a rented place, so sub would be easier to move in case I need to compared to r700, which look like real estate. As for subs I have 3 sealed options - one is Jamo d6 15" 300w with prein/preouts for 250€. Other 2 are Kef Kube 12 and q acoustics qb12. Both are 400€ simmilar by output, but don't contain any preamps outputs, so i would need a dsp/crosover (100€+) for them.
I really appreciated Kristi’s take at the end. It complemented Andrew’s very well. Very price sensitive and the importance of dialogue is shared by me as well.
So glad you keep reviewing the R700... I still have them top in my list for the speaker pair to buy. However... I think is time you make a review on the RSL Speedwoofer (10S and/or 12S), and compare it to SVS and Klipsch's subs. Many many good things beeing talked about the RSL. Cheers!
Interesting comparison. I have and are happy with the R700’s and often wonder how the Legend L600 tower compares to see what happens when you spend more rather than less.
I know you think the Legend line is not long lived. But any thoughts on the Polk Legend L600 speaker and how it would compare to the R700 and speakers in the 2-4k a pair range?
Just paired two R600s, that I purchased on sale directly from Polk for ~$1300 with tax, in my basement 2.1 stereo setup with a Klipsch R-100SW that I got on a Prime deal on Amazon for ~$200. No joke, $1500 for the three speakers. They sound amazing.
So glad you did this. I was one of the ones asking for this to be reviewed. As someone who has a pair of R600s mated to 4 R900 Atmos and R300 center and an SVS sub I can not recommend this speaker line enough (adding 2 pairs of Polk in walls with the ring tweeter soon). And R600 at its often on sale price of $650/each is a steal
I have R200's up front, R350 center, R100's in the rear, and a big fat Monolith Monolith M-12 V2 12in Subwoofer to bring home the base. I am happy with the Polk's, I believe they are very accurate, neutral, and a pleasure to listen to. My only complaint is that they seem too quiet at lower volumes. They seem to come alive as I turn the volume up, and for music, they sound really good all the way up at 92! There seems to be a little sweet spot up there. I'm powering them with an RZ50. Great review as always! Cheers! Rob
I bought the R200 and R350 on your recommendation, i loved them but i knew they were something special when my wife who is the furthest thing from an Audiophile said they sounded amazing and a big improvement over the old speakers. Worth every penny.
If the home decorator requires these to be at most 4-6" off the front wall, would you say that's still ok, or should I look at other alternative options - front ported I guess?
@@JesperSandersen 4-6" off the FW is pretty close so you'll be loading the bass quite a bit which may or may not be the ideal location. A front ported speaker would likely be easier to place. I would also invest in Dirac or REW to help get the best sound from your speakers when dealing with those types of placement limitations.
@@KristiWright I have the rz50 and will definitely run Dirac. Any recommendations for a front ported floor speaker alternative in the general price range (
@Jesper Sandersen You may need to shop for the Arendal 1961s towers - bit.ly/3Ds3yFr. They have a rear slot port but you can plug it and it won't change the sound of the speaker too much.
Just wanted to say I love you guys. You are one of the few that I trust your reviews. Slowly building my home theater and your reviews are very helpful. Thanks for being entertaining and informative. Kristi’s comments are great.
Still love my r700,…. did consider the r600, but glad i got the r700. I personally find the r700 better than my previously beloved Dali helicon 800, at double the price, and is an amazing speaker. Regards jannick 😊
I would move in the direction of the RP-6000F2’s before these for the reasons that Kristi described. The midrange intelligibility and “live” sound do it for me.
When I was making my purchase, I really wanted the 700s but the price was just out of my range and I thought "meh, the 600s couldn't be THAT different, could they?", so I ordered the 600s... had them in my room for about a week and the 700s went on sale to within $200 of what I paid for the 600s. I called Crutchfield and they were amazing and letting me send the 600s back and shipped out the 700s when they came back in stock (even let me use your link to re-order them!). I couldn't be any happier with them and am glad I made the switch.... not because I didn't like the 600s, just that the 700s offered "more" of almost everything. I love them and can't see myself wanting anything different for a LONG LONG time. Thank you for your review in helping me make that choice! Still need to get a matching center and possibly the atmos speakers to sit on top, but I sure love them!
Hi Andrew! Excellent review and comparison, as always 👌 I was using the B&W 603's and HTM6 (just before the anniversary edition but similar looks) for the last 3yrs+ Bought with a lot of enthusiasm but never could loved it's sound! Please dont judge me - I tried to love them but just couldn't. Then I saw various reviews of the Polk reserve series and ofcourse your review on the R700. I immediately fell in love with the looks and all the various options for other models in this series and especially the downward firing port. I am a fan of wood/walnut fijish and the reserve series has that too! Then I started looking for places where I can audition them and found one dealer in my city with the R500 pair and the R300 centre! Well I immediately loved the sound signature and the fit and finsh is so so much better than my B&W 603's. Then auditioned the R700 with the R400 centre in another city - WOW!! What a sound - absolutely non fatiguing but crystal clear, such punchy and so much body in the overall sound!! And the R400 center is just just mind-blowing!! I immediately placed an order for the R400 - center, R100 (as surrounds) and a pair of R600 - yes, not R700 as I thought I already have two QAqiastics QB-12 subwoofers and the R600's driver size matches exactly with the R400. Then they came - and after setting them up with my Denon 8500H - I just listened and listened and listened!! This is probably one of my best decision I have ever made. Many thanks to you and Kristi for your fantastic work and in-detailed reviews, as always 🙏
I'm going to stay with all my Polk audio lsim series of speakers. I know the reserve speakers are great , but for me there never be anything better than the lsim series of speakers. Great review have a blessed day !
A pair of 600’s and a pair of 100’s were sitting in my Best Buy cart during their sale last week - a whopping $850 off all four (black only). In hindsight, I wish I pulled the trigger (if anything just to have them). Currently running a Polk Signature Elite system and couldn’t justify the (still) substantial price difference for an apartment environment. Are the Reserve’s THAT much better than the ES’? Also, did anyone notice that Best Buy was dumping their stock of 77” LG C2’s for the ridiculous price of $980??!! Sure wish I caught that one - my 75” x90j would have come off the wall in a heartbeat! Cheers!
Wow, it's like you're reading my mind. So thankful for this review and comparison. Been looking at the R700s but I really prefer the size and aesthetics of the 600s. For the record I agree with Kristi on how much the aesthetics matter. If I find a speaker to be ugly it really affects my perception of the sound. I feel crazy for saying that, but it is what it is.
Hi Andrew, can you please suggest one speaker system with avr for apartment living purposes. Can’t use loud sound. Neighbors will disturb. But clear channel separation and clear vocal and best for Netflix atmos film is the requirement.
i think i would be more interested in the R200 + sub, even with the sub you use, youre in the $1700 range for speakers, subs and kanto stands. The r200 is also available in white and that finish option alone increases the WAF tremendously over the R700s. The R600 seem a little pointless to me, they are the same price as a 200 with a sub so it seems like a no-brainer to buy the bookshelves and get a more capable system... After your last commentary, im wondering if the R200 can compete with my Qacoustics 3030i that im so fond of, they also make those in white.
You make excellent points! As for could the 200s compete with the Q's, I suspect they could or would. Honestly, I think when it comes to the Reserve line on the whole, it's all about whether or not the ring radiator tweeter has enough top-end for you. I love it, but I know those who prefer a brighter sound tend to find it a bit dull or too rolled off.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews yea, im interested in trying them. I dont like overly bright speakers and find them fatiguing when listening for long periods of time. Polk has always been pretty neutral in my mind, someone who likes bright should audition focal or klipsch. Im setting up an office and need a pair of bookshelves for that. I have one of the new schiit SYN "processors" with a vidar and an extra SVS SB1000 for the room already. I also have the kanto stands you love so much (great recommendation by the way). I was pretty sure i wanted to try the Pro-ject speakerbox 5 s2, but your recent polk love has me thinking i should probably buy the R200s and try them both in the space.
I've got the Polk R500 towers and use a the Polk HTS 12 sub and I really like them. I find the 5 1/4 drivers very clear. They're smaller size makes look great in the living room. They make movie soundtracks sing. I use a Marantz Cinema 50 along with a Parasound 2125 v2 to power them, so there getting enough juice ;-) Really helps them reach there potential.
@@qasimal-hadidi4800 You don't need an external amp like the Parasound. In fact I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't buy the Cinema 50 after I already have the 2125 amp. To my ears the amp make the speakers in certain situations sound bigger and smoother. Like for music with more delicate vocals and jazz music. I think the special effects sound more energetic while playing movies in a 5.1 configuration. Its only 5-10% better. I would not have bought the amp after I got the Cinema 50 if that makes sense.
I was seriously contemplating getting these r600's after getting tired of waiting for the r700. I ending up buying a used pair of polk lsim 707's and have zero desire to upgrade!
Nice review! I’m glad you shared your thoughts on the Arendal 1961s as I’m also very interested in that brand. If you get a chance I’d love to see a review on their 1723 S Monitors & Center. They promise a more “full” sound than regular bookshelves but cost less than full towers (which may not be needed if the subwoofer is always engaged).
In Europe we tend to have smaller houses with brick walls so bass tends to bounce around more. So the R600 probably fits most European houses better than the R700. Like Andrew and Kristi I would go for the Q Acoustics 5040.
Be happy that we dont have cardboard houses like the US... And for bouncing Bass and also High End Sound there is only one Solution : Room Treatment, DSP and well placed Subwoofers to get rid of room modes on the listening space
Yep I have a pair of A9's. I am bi-amping them Marantz 2 channel receiver running the 2 mid drivers and tweeter. Crown class D running the 3 bass drivers and they slam. Fantastic sounding speakers.
I bought the R700’s used for $1500 and I love them. I’m running it with a Rotel 1582 MKII, Bluesound Node and duel subs. The R700’s didn’t come with boxes though, do you have any recommendations for packing speakers to move without the OEM boxes? These things are big and heavy and I don’t want to damage them
Perhaps try reaching out to the manufacturer to see if you can purchase a pair of boxes or contact a moving company and see if they have a box and appropriate packing material you can buy from them.
Hey Andrew, your recommendations have gone a long way in configuring my 1st hi-fi stereo system (Lintons+6000A+Wiim Mini) Thanks a lot for that, absolutely loving it. How would you compare the Polk R600 with the Wharfedale Lintons?
I've been seriously considering the R700. I ended up with the SVS Ultra towers. How do these 2 compare? Would the R700 be a improvement or more of a lateral move? Thank you so much for great content.
Good afternoon! THANK YOU for this comparison! This video was a nice surprise. Honestly, the thought of the R600 vs R700 has been rattling around in my mind for a long time! But, I could not find a store that has the R700 to make the comparison. Awesome job! I was interested to know if they sound better than the Triangle towers that you reviewed just a little bit ago. Let me know your thoughts on that one. Thanks again for a great Sunday and all the work you do!
I personally prefer the Polk Reserve line --specifically the R600 you're asking about --to the Triangle Br09s we reviewed, though I fully admit the Triangle speakers are better looking.
Hello what is good choice between: polk audio R600, qacoustics 5040, pylon diamond 25 and klipsch RP 8000f mII. My amplifier is Cambridge Audio CXA61. Thanks for comment.
Andrew, thanks for another take on some products! I was wondering about something that might spark a thought or two for you. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now. There have been products that you love and some that you don’t. Some of the “loved” ones have made it into your reference collection; however, several obviously didn't for the obvious $$ and space reasons. I also know that each year you’ve had your best of the year show. Have you thought about an ongoing list that compares your favorites from this year to last year to the year before? For example, you loved the Musical Fidelity M5SI if I remember correctly. Where does that sit on the list of Integrated Amps for example? Obviously, this could get large and maybe out of hand, but even a top 5 or 10 could be most helpful to those of us without your background or resources.
I switched out the R600 to the Heco Aurora 700. I thought the Hecos dug deeper and had more punch with better and more airy highs. I feel the Hecos for the money are a much better buy.
The 700s will likely come across as more dynamic and "punchy" due to their greater bass hump and treble boost compared to what I've seen from either the R600 or R700. Similar to the 8000F IIs the Hecos are going for a mildly more lively sound compared to what Polk has chosen to do with the Reserve line.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Makes me wonder if I should have gave the R600s more time. I really wanted the R700s, but price constraints along with space made me end up sticking with the Hecos. I understand why you pulled the Heco review down. That being said I really enjoy what you and your wife do. 👍👍
Hopefully in a year from now life will settle down for me and I'll order either the R600 or R700. You're both very believable and sincere in your presentation/opinion. That's good enough for me.
A bit late today to the parade, but I believe there should be maybe one less option within the line, with slightly bigger price gap. I don’t think it’s worth getting R600 with a sub, instead of an R700. Great speaker and all, but it kind of defeats the purpose, besides the fact you have to fit a big sub box somewhere as well. So, I’d always go with a slightly more expensive do it all speaker, rather then a combo. But Polk is absolutely on a roll. I thought they’re going out of business a few years back, I’m glad they’re not and kicking butt as well. Kudos to them. And to you guys for an awesome video!
Brasil here. Even these speakers cost a lot here I have the R700 and the R600. First bought the R00 and after months the R700. The R700 is more “harsh”…unfortunately. Too much high/medium frequencies. 😢😢😢 Am I wrong? Some has both too???
Yes the upper-mid frequencies are a bit “harsh” with R700s. However, setting the speaker impedance of your AVR/AMP to 4Ω, like this guy said, may fix the sound, with my Denon x3700h it does.
Hi. I own the R 600 and would like to replace my present AVR. Could you suggest a matching maybe Denon AVR? Are the Denon AVC x4800h a good match for the R600?
If you combine smaller speakers with (music oriented) dual subs for bass ... you could get a BETTER experience when done right. It won't be cheaper though.
I have the R600s and like them a lot. My room isn’t huge (9’ x 17’) and with room correction they are flat to 30hz so I’d never dream of a sub. Thanks for the review, very interesting to see the measurements vs the R700 and hear your impressions.
As a hifi lover who had speakers like Revel, Martin Logan ESL, and Dynaudio, I am in absolutely in love with Q Acoustics. Started with their 5010i, ended up with Concept 500s.
I currently own the Polk Rti-a5's and RTI a1's. No issues with them at all from me. Love 'em. I wonder how the Reserve series would compare. The a1's stand alone without a sub in a small living room.
There aren't many reviews on the L600. But an owner review on Crutchfield, said that although the difference between the two is clearly obvious in the L600's favor, it's probably not enough to justify the price difference. I'm currently saving up for the L600 for a retirement gift, figuring I won't ever have to upgrade again.
i went for the L 600 because i found a new pair at half price in a store in Switzerland just across the border from germany . polk is not that popular in europe so nobody bought them , hence the discount . i'm super pleased. The separation and clarity between lows , mids and highs is extreme and the bass is waay better than anticipated . unfortunetly i had a pair of the original SDAs back in1985 and i am comparing everything since to those . The L 600s are excellent but not spectacular and end game like the SDAs ,,,,,, IMO 😎
Well truth be told and Andrew and Kristi don't tell anybody I said this I was so close to buying a pair of Polk legend towers but at that particular time I just couldn't afford it and I know I should have waited. But when you have this excitement of finally being able to build somewhat of a good surround sound system in your own house that you own. It's just a different experience and I couldn't wait. Although I wish I had and I wish I'd never got the receiver that I got, but soon I will be upgrading. As far as being the goat of tower speakers, I would still put Klipsch speakers at the top of the food chain. But that's just me because I just love that horn technology. They have it down in my opinion.. especially for the price points when you start comparing them to real high-end monster towers. enjoy the rest of your weekend guys. Have a great one.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews those RP towers are the next ones I'm going to get.. I won't be happy until I have a complete Klipsch 5.1.4 surround sound system.
@Andrew Robinson I'm currently running older Def-Tech Studio Monitor 350 bookshelves in a 5.1 living room system. Despite their size, they have a nice low end thanks to the 8" passive radiator which my DT CS-8040 center also has. The L600's sound like they wouldn't add much low end, which my SVS PB-1000 sub takes care of. Seems like they would be a tall bookshelf speaker with that in mind. I'll stick with the Def-Techs for now and go speaker shopping later this year. I do need to step my speaker game up and do the new AVR justice. Great review as always!
@Kristi Wright I agree with you, probably better quality midrange and highs than my current bookshelf speakers but since I have a subwoofer, maybe the R200's would fit well too and save money. Then a matching center too.
When speakers are expected to be used for movies and video, I think a relevant feature is whether the line offers complimentary surrounds and atmos speakers. Polk offers a variety of options with ring radiator tweeters, including the ls in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, which I have had success with. For the home I am moving to soon, that makes the R-600 most compelling because I then have several like-sounding options for completing a 7.2.4 arrangement. Many of the competing speakers don’t make that so easy.
The two would be cross shopped and likely follow a similar path as r700 vs 8000F2. We have not heard the 6000s so this is purely a guess based on our experiences overall.
I don’t know if this was asked before but are there any suggested set-ups to pet/child proof your system? I’m looking to get speakers but I’m afraid our cats would turn them into a scratching post.
Hello Andrew & Kristi,,, Thanks a Ton for this review of Polk R700 & R600's I was waiting for this review from so long time, I'm using R600 for more than one year, Bcoz of unavailability of R700's here in India I bought R600's & almost happy with it, It's good neutral speakers. Klipsch rp-8000f first generation was in my list Bcoz of Klipsch more forward & horn like waveguide I went with Polk Reserve R600, as I have seen your R200's video & I made my mind to go with R600 instead of Klipsch rp-8000f. Using R600 + R400 Center + R100 as Surrounds. With Emotiva XPA 3 gen3 & BasX A2. Sub's - SVS SB 1000 PRO + Polk DSW 550 PRO. Once again Thanks a Bunch for this review it cleared all my doubts. & now I am satisfied that I have not made a wrong decision. Thanks...🙏🏼
Nice review. I recommend the Polk HTS12 Sub which is a brilliant music sub and also uses the Polk Power Port. I also use it with my Bluesound Soundbar+ So will Polk now send you the L600s and L400 to review?
HTS12 is a great sub. Got mine crossed over at 120hz hooked to an Onkyo TX-NR686 with Polk Audio S55’s for L-R and the S35 for C. Got the S20e’s for rear surround… all crossed over at 80hz and the setup sounds great for both music and movies!👌
Hey Masimo, If your big data and analytics engine scape up this comment, let the secret out of the bag on the L600 is one of the best Polk speakers made since The Reference Series. Yes we all know the L800, I have a pair. But the L600 which I also own sounds outstanding, simple to setup and power vs the L800. I’ve never seen a proper L600 review to let the world know just how good this secret speaker is because everyone focused the the L800 and L200. And compared to the R700 it’s like comparing a B&W 702 to the 802. And the L400 is so good anyone building out a reserve series should seriously look at the L400 for a centre upgrade alternative.
ES60 is great under 1k. I ventured into tower speakers recently and was surprised that they produce so clean and massive bass. ES60 are a great entry that is not low end and can be used in a lot ways imo, movie, music etc. Just make sure you do room correction and some treatments.
Andrew, I have a Polk Audio for my fronts. It's an older model, the Polk Audio RT 2000p. It has the built in powered subwoofer. They are quite neutral. I am looking to replace them with a brighter model. Is the R700 the one to buy? Thanks.
Don't like the way bookshelves + stands look. I would rather spend the extra money and get the R600 and get a sub. Nothing beats a properly placed sub. Also note that running speakers full range like R700 alone would need extra juice that most mid to low end amps won't provide. That's why a good sub has a 500W+ amp built in.
Awesome video, I have 2 12" subs paired with my R200's in the front. I was thinking of upgrading to the R600's but now, I'm thinking that may be a waste of money based on my current set up. Thanks! PS. The reserve series is a blessing. GREAT CHANNEL!
I'm currently building out my home theater system with the reserve line and while I wait on the R700s to arrive, I have the R400 center, R200s on stands, and the HTS 12 run by my Yamaha RX-A3080 and the sound stage is incredible. I can't imagine how much the towers will add. I might suggest the R400 for you unless you're looking to put the R200s behind you and add 2 new front speakers. And I totally agree with you, I'm upgrading from the Polk's S series from 2020 and these reserves are killer.
@@chrisby1986 yes it will.. unless you need insane amounts of volume.... But anything withing reason/normal listening volumes you'll be more than fine. I currently run the Polk Signature 60 towers and my Yamaha Aventage RX-a730 combined w them sounds extremely good.. hope that helps
Hello, and watching your videos and great reviews, I am looking at purchasing a pair-of Polk S60 speakers for primarily music, listening Pandora and watching UA-cam music videos , my question is, what would you recommend for a receiver? Not sure if I will be incorporating surround speakers in the future. Denon DRA800H ? Or should I go with a receiver for home theater? My TV is a 60 inch Samsung 4K.. looking to stay under $700 for the receiver, thank you for any suggestions!!
Another excellent review. Question, or scenario: You already have a great sub(s), and a decent A/V amp(Marantz 125watts@8ohms and 4 ohm stable) which may be borderline for the R700s. Will the R600s be a good enough value compromise, vs getting the R700s, and upgrading amplification?
The room sees only energy so, thats why treatment is the most important point. The speaker is too big when you cant control the energy with Absorbers out of Minearalwool or Membran Basstraps etc - that why Studios can build big ATC SCM200's in the Walls so, its always a matter of balance & how much acoustic material you can place. But most People dont use room treatment so the bigger the speaker, the more SPL you get, the more you've Room Problems. Thats why Floorstanders are mostly nonsense because theyre the most unflexible Choice you can make in the living room when you dont use Subwoofer with DSP or Treatment to handle the Energy
Struggling like I’ve never struggled before! - Please save me Dr. Robinson & Queen Master Kristi!... In a nutshell: Should I import a Sony AZ5000ES Receiver from USA & run it via a Step Down Transformer (Australia - 240v/50hz)... or simply go with the RZ50? Intended for 100% movie use, I need a receiver for my 5.1.4 setup of MA speakers & Rotel 5ch Amp... And if Sony hadn’t stated that the ES receivers were for USA only, I would have happily waited & imported one from the UK, etc. The FOMO I’m experiencing for the loss of grander height effects is severe! Please advise me guys, I’m feeling very desperate. Gratefully, Nickolas.
I had the B&W 606 Anniversary Edition and they were "exciting", but very fatiguing. Now I have the R600 with R400 center and 2x SVS Micro 3000 and it's much easier to listen to compared to the B&W 606. However, I feel like they lack a bit of sparkle/excitement, so next time I'll shop for something that is less fatiguing than the B&W 606 but has more sparkle than Polk R600. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding what speakers could meet those criteria?
Klipsch 8000F II sounds like the best option. Their top end is slightly rolled off compared to the previous model, but are said to have enough sparkle up top. I’m a Polk Audio fan because I cannot stand a bright speaker or Amp for that matter. With my S55’s I can listen to music for 4 hours straight… with no fatigue at all.
Yes, FOCAL!! Either their Chora line, if you can get it.... or the new version of Chora! At that price range, nothing beats entry level Focal speakers.
Did the R600 play well with your Klipsch in-ceiling speakers? I'm wondering if the polk R900 as front heights would theoretically be okay to pair with klipsh DS160 side and rear surrounds. Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers🎉

Great content
Where can we find the speaker cart/ Dolley
Cheers
Always good to see you, Brian!
I have R200 and I am loving them. They are just smooth.
Thanks!
Thank you, Max!!
Excellent, professional review as usual Andrew. I especially appreciate your quick comparisons to other speakers.
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
Don't you feel you need a sub with R700? Have an R200 and thinking of going the sub way or change to R700
@@LifeOfToyz thanks for your post. Waiting for impressions from r700
The R600 with RSL Speedwoofer 10s ($450). Now that's a combination!!!!
At $650/ea (when on sale) the R600s are 100% a no-brainer purchase!
I'm so glad to know you and your wife are happy with your speakers!
If the home decorator requires these to be at most 4-6" off the front wall, would you say that's still ok, or should I look at other alternative options - front ported I guess?
Do you mean off your front wall?
@@KristiWright My bad, I meant front wall of course - the wall with the TV :-)
Love the 700 s since I got them and still not tempted to change.
They're so good!
Just wanted to say I love you guys. You are one of the few that I trust your reviews. Slowly building my home theater and your reviews are very helpful. Thanks for being entertaining and informative. Kristi’s comments are great.
The Polk Reserve line is great, I just wish Polk made their white versions more easily available since they look so much better.
Folks that want the R700 could DIY or have them vinyl wrapped. I'll bet some would be happy with the results of done right.
I agree, just ordered r200’s and r600’s in white. 600’s will be my front R/L and 200’s for surrounds.
Can you please review the Polk Elite Signature 60 tower speakers?
If people watch this video and want more Polk content, we may take a look. Thanks for watching and thank you for your request.
Hi Andrew! Excellent review and comparison, as always 👌
I was using the B&W 603's and HTM6 (just before the anniversary edition but similar looks) for the last 3yrs+
Bought with a lot of enthusiasm but never could loved it's sound!
Cheers!
Why was there such a difference of opinion with the legends vs reserve? Do they sound that different?
I got the R500 also, but why do we need Parasound 2125 v2? explain please as am planing to buy one
@@arndtbc thanks for for the info 👌🏻
I was seriously contemplating getting these r600's after getting tired of waiting for the r700. I ending up buying a used pair of polk lsim 707's and have zero desire to upgrade!
I'm happy to hear you're happy! That's all that matters in the end. Still appreciate you tuning in!
The bass of my r700's work great, with dirac live helping out correcting any ill effects on the bass the room adds.
Be happy that we dont have cardboard houses like the US... And for bouncing Bass and also High End Sound there is only one Solution : Room Treatment, DSP and well placed Subwoofers to get rid of room modes on the listening space
Polk really should make an R800 with two mid drivers and three bass drivers like their Rti A9. That thing was awesome.
Hey Andrew. R700s for me. Question Will you guys consider the HSU VTF 2 sub or the Monoprice Monolith M 12 subs ?
Hey Andrew, your recommendations have gone a long way in configuring my 1st hi-fi stereo system (Lintons+6000A+Wiim Mini) Thanks a lot for that, absolutely loving it. How would you compare the Polk R600 with the Wharfedale Lintons?
Best review approach of anyone on the web. Enjoyed it.
Thank you so very much Harry!
I've been seriously considering the R700. I ended up with the SVS Ultra towers. How do these 2 compare? Would the R700 be a improvement or more of a lateral move? Thank you so much for great content.
The reserve line does seem exceptionally good value if I was going to demo one it would probably be the r700
You should review the Polk hts 10 and 12 subwoofers
Noted. Appreciate you tuning in!
My local dealers is currently having R700s on sale: €1999 for them vs €1799 for a pair of R600s seems like a no-brainer.
Why the 600's, of you can get the r200 + sub?
I guess you'll have to review the Polk R center series.. 🎉
Hopefully in a year from now life will settle down for me and I'll order either the R600 or R700. You're both very believable and sincere in your presentation/opinion. That's good enough for me.
Great review. Q Acoustics look great.
They're great, underrated speakers for sure!
r600 vs kef q750 ?
I kinda agree. I think the R500 should likely go the way of the Dodo and the R600 should absorb the 500's price.
Brasil here. Even these speakers cost a lot here I have the R700 and the R600.
First bought the R00 and after months the R700.
The R700 is more “harsh”…unfortunately. Too much high/medium frequencies. 😢😢😢
Am I wrong?
Some has both too???
Yes the upper-mid frequencies are a bit “harsh” with R700s. However, setting the speaker impedance of your AVR/AMP to 4Ω, like this guy said, may fix the sound, with my Denon x3700h it does.
Polk R600 or Kef 750? for movie watching
Hi. I own the R 600 and would like to replace my present AVR. Could you suggest a matching maybe Denon AVR? Are the Denon AVC x4800h a good match for the R600?
Been waiting on this review for a minute!
:)
I hope it was worth the wait and that you find it helpful!
Absolutely was!
Thanks for this great review. Do you think that the Q Acoustics 5040 is a better speaker than Monitor Audio Silver 300 7G ?
We have not heard the Silver 300 so can't say.
If you combine smaller speakers with (music oriented) dual subs for bass ... you could get a BETTER experience when done right. It won't be cheaper though.
For a large bedroom, above the garage room, would you Recommend r600 or still get the r700?
I have the R600s and like them a lot. My room isn’t huge (9’ x 17’) and with room correction they are flat to 30hz so I’d never dream of a sub. Thanks for the review, very interesting to see the measurements vs the R700 and hear your impressions.
Appreciate you sharing your experience!
I own the Polk R700's and thinking of trying to upgrade to the L600's. Do you think it be is better?
There aren't many reviews on the L600.
But an owner review on Crutchfield, said that although the difference between the two is clearly obvious in the L600's favor, it's probably not enough to justify the price difference.
I'm currently saving up for the L600 for a retirement gift, figuring I won't ever have to upgrade again.
Better go for the Arendal 1723 S speakers.
Way better.
i went for the L 600 because i found a new pair at half price in a store in Switzerland just across the border from germany . polk is not that popular in europe so nobody bought them , hence the discount . i'm super pleased.
Klipsch, especially the new RP line, are exceptional for fun, exciting home theater experiences, for sure!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews those RP towers are the next ones I'm going to get.. I won't be happy until I have a complete Klipsch 5.1.4 surround sound system.
@@movie_av_impulse morning!!
@@KristiWright good morning I hope your enjoying your weekend and coffee this morning 😊
Please review the Legend L600.
Happy Sunday Kristi and Andrew, looking forward to this review, maybe new speakers to go with my new Cinema 60? 🤔🤘
Morning! Let us know what you think by the end of the review.
I bet these would be a great match.
That white finish is 🔥!!
Still the best finish in the line.
Would the klipsch rp-6000f ll be a match for the r600s?
depends on your personal taste.. :)
The two would be cross shopped and likely follow a similar path as r700 vs 8000F2. We have not heard the 6000s so this is purely a guess based on our experiences overall.
I haven't had the chance to listen to any of the new polk speakers but I'm digging those white 600s
Review the Polk R400 please
Nice review, I wish I would've watched this video before, that would have saved me learning the impedance issue the hard way!
I was literally thinking about this R600 speaker yesterday... And then you pumped out a video about it
Great minds think alike
Any chance you will review the EVO 4.4 from Wharfedale ? 😊
I don’t know if this was asked before but are there any suggested set-ups to pet/child proof your system? I’m looking to get speakers but I’m afraid our cats would turn them into a scratching post.
Hello Andrew & Kristi,,,
Thanks a Ton for this review of Polk R700 & R600's I was waiting for this review from so long time, I'm using R600 for more than one year, Bcoz of unavailability of R700's here in India I bought R600's & almost happy with it, It's good neutral speakers.
Thanks...🙏🏼
Awesome setup you got there! Wish I could hear it in person. It surely sounds great!👍🏼 Enjoy brother.
@@Turtleback8024 Your most welcome, & Thanks a lot for your appreciation...👍🏼🙏🏼😊
Would these (or the r500, r200) pair well to the Bluesound Powernode? I think the below 4ohm impedance gives me cause to worry slightly..
Nice review.
I recommend the Polk HTS12 Sub which is a brilliant music sub and also uses the Polk Power Port.
I also use it with my Bluesound Soundbar+
So will Polk now send you the L600s and L400 to review?
HTS12 is a great sub. Got mine crossed over at 120hz hooked to an Onkyo TX-NR686 with Polk Audio S55’s for L-R and the S35 for C. Got the S20e’s for rear surround… all crossed over at 80hz and the setup sounds great for both music and movies!👌
Hey Masimo,
If your big data and analytics engine scape up this comment, let the secret out of the bag on the L600 is one of the best Polk speakers made since The Reference Series.
Andrew how about a review of the Polk ES60 towers ?
ES60 is great under 1k. I ventured into tower speakers recently and was surprised that they produce so clean and massive bass. ES60 are a great entry that is not low end and can be used in a lot ways imo, movie, music etc. Just make sure you do room correction and some treatments.
Andrew, I have a Polk Audio for my fronts. It's an older model, the Polk Audio RT 2000p. It has the built in powered subwoofer. They are quite neutral. I am looking to replace them with a brighter model. Is the R700 the one to buy? Thanks.
I’ve had my Rti 10’s for over a decade. Tell me how these are an upgrade. Do have the hts12 sub, it’s awesome. Csi6 Rti 1’s surrounds.
Hypex nc252 is quite enough for these.
Might as well bring in the R500s to round it out.
Could a denon x2700h power the r700? I really want them but can't afford new amp and speakers
I don't own any of the gear mentioned but I'm sure the X2700H can sufficiently power the R700.
Hmmm the part on dialogue ~ were you using any centers?
Another excellent review. Question, or scenario: You already have a great sub(s), and a decent A/V amp(Marantz 125watts@8ohms and 4 ohm stable) which may be borderline for the R700s. Will the R600s be a good enough value compromise, vs getting the R700s, and upgrading amplification?
Andrew, can your speakers be too big for your room? If yes, how would it manifest?
Too much energy in the room may have low end muddle I believe.
I would take a look at the Martin Logan Motion 60xti. The price has come down to under $2000 a pair since the new model has just come out.
Did the R600 play well with your Klipsch in-ceiling speakers? I'm wondering if the polk R900
as front heights would theoretically be okay to pair with klipsh DS160 side and rear surrounds. Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers🎉
