If you live anywhere near Derbyshire, TV Smith - along with 11 other acts - will be performing live at Plaguefest 2024 in Chesterfield on Sunday 14th July 2024. Tickets available now with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you.
I had no idea who the band was and bought it on the strength of how cool she looked on the cover. And then played it😍😍😍 Been looking through Gary Gilmore's eyes ever since!!!
I'm sure The Adverts would have played my hometown in Devon back in the day, would love to have seen them, but I only would have been about 11 years old! Gaye wrote great basslines used to try and work them out on my Hondo Jazz copy. Great teenage memories.
Hey Gaye! Cathy still here. Your pal...1981/2. Friend of Martin. You sent me birthday card( a Xmas card to you) You playing bass. Hey man, still glad you are ok. I am in Finchley now. Been here a long time. Been in 2 bands here . Wah! Age going on. Hope you are avoiding covid.x Reply. Will give address. Penpals again after? 30yrs. X
Gaye was the Bass Player in 'The Adverts', but she was also a pinup girl of the whole pUnK Scene, along with Debby Harry of Blondie, Siouxsie Soux, of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Pauline Murray, of Penetration, Poly Styrene of XRAY SPEX, Faye Fife of The Rezillos etc etc, Gaye was a very decent Bass player that was crucial to the sound of 'The Adverts', and indeed all of the aforementioned Women were very talented musicians in their own right , despite being 'Sex Symbols' in an age before all this 'WOKE' shit, when it was ok to Fancy someone, and say they were attractive ! Gaye is still artistic in different ways these days, but still very popular and still very Beautiful! God Bless her! (Some FOOKER Somewhere will find offence in this post, probably on behalf of someone else) ! dx
Punk was basically “woke shit” - and most of the women you mention DID NOT WANT to be sex symbols for (cave)men - certainly not Gaye, Polly, Pauline, Siouxsie or Faye (and probably not Debbie although I’m not as familiar with her).
@@CarlChristensen64 Thank you - you called it right. Why do some ppl feel the need to extrapolate today's tiresome political posturing onto a movement that ended nearly 50 years ago and that WAS ultra-liberal in its outlook. if some of these whiners were around back then, they would have hated it. Also , note to OP: It is still perfectly acceptable to tell a woman that you fancy her and find her attractive. What is not acceptable is reducing a woman to nothing more than that. It's worth learning this subtle difference (and many of those "pin-ups" you claim to admire were advocating for this very idea back then)
First time I've been seen her without the punk gear on. Sexy as hell back in the day and still lovely today❤️Also seems like a nice, well adjusted lady as well.
One of the coolest bass players ever. Her look was striking and she still looks absolutely amazing today.
Gosh she is still incredibly pretty in this clip.

Saw them when they played the Top Rank in Cardiff, must've been '78. They were great, of course .

NO, she was not a "pin up" girl!
@@LarzGustafsson she most definitely was a pin-up girl in Fiesta. Natural 😍

Nice unpretentious person, and Glad Day by William Blake in the background.
