Though I agree it's definitely buyer beware when it comes to plant purchases and pests, particularly from private sellers, this represents a default state as opposed to the ideal. I'm concerned that you were too casual about this issue and that this could encourage someone to not disclose pest issues to potential buyers. It is, after all, the buyer who should get to decide the pest infestation levels in their home, not the seller. It is possible that someone doesn't have mealy bugs in their home, to use your example, and so would be justifiably upset to receive an infested plant. Since it's never "just one bug," they could be dealing with mealy bugs forever as a consequence of that one purchase. Emma from Good Growing recently returned a plant because of exactly that concern. (Purchased online and arrived with mealy bugs.) I appreciate the efforts you undertook to pest check and prep your plants, and I'm sure your friend is aware of the general situation in your home. I have no doubt that you're as responsible as possible. It's why I enjoy your channel so much. It's the irresponsible amongst us--the ones who most need to hear corrective advice--who would also be most likely to misinterpret things. I recommend more care in the future around this issue. Thanks.
hi!! first off i just wanted to say thank you for sharing your opinion / feedback respectfully. i wish i could say the same about most people who have opposing views! in the same breath, i do feel like my opinion is also valid? i watched it back and don't feel like i made it seem like selling plants with pests is ok and never the sellers fault/issue (and if i did then definitely my bad!) but my main point and something i'm always trying to convey in being realistic in this hobby is that pests just come with the territory. and while getting ANY kind of bug even if it's a single one is absolutely not ideal and not what you expect as a buyer. but having worked in a plant shop myself, i know that some things just slip through the cracks and i'd hope that buyers give some grace to the seller (like communicating with them about a resolve) before immediately demanding a refund or leaving a bad review. having been a moderator in a large local plant group for several years now, i feel like it's so common for buyers (especially newer people in the hobby) to immediately want to get a buyer in trouble for selling a plant with pests (whether it's a single or full infestation). on that note though, if a plant is sold with pests and the buyer is uncomfortable treating it, i do think sellers should offer a remedy and not just pass it off as an "oh well" because that's definitely not cool either. anyway, i'm going to pin this comment so that my thoughts on it are a bit more elaborated! and i hope you can also respect my opinion on this issue as i do yours!
@@hithere2468 Hi there hithere2468….I see some youtubers on this platform that are just selling absolute crap for plants and also have that “Well the pests are always gonna be “ attitude, which makes me furious! Charmaine, as I come back to youtube after a months-long flare up of the long-term mental health condition I've had forever, I want you to know that your videos are the reason I decided to not quit the hobby when I was very down this past summer. My plants got neglected for months. I lost like 70 plants this summer, almost half my collection. I had meticulously curated my collection doing hours of research via yours and Alice's videos and social media. I saw it happen slowly and I felt worse and worse about being able to keep the non-dead but still heavily struggling plants. I abandoned plant tube bc I thought I was done. But once I rode the wave and landed on the other side, I decided to take your advice that I have heard you repeat in all of your videos on youtube: you can taylor collecting plants to your space and lifestyle. You can do things slowly. It doesn't have to happen all at once. So in October I decided to try to rescue my absolute favorites and threw out everything else. And I worked on rehabbing them, one at at a time. I replaced a couple of ones I missed, then replaced some more. As my mental state got better, so did my ability to care for the collection. Today I feel that I am on the other side, and that my collection is almost fully recovered and thriving. I came back to plant tube and unfollowed everyone except you, Alice and Fern: my Essentials. Thank you for being so transparent and honest about everything. Thank you for putting out content despite life shit. Thank you for convincing Alice to come on youtube too. You help thousands of people. I am one of the people that you have helped. ❤
I’m dealing with mealies right now. I do Isn’t mind them till I found one large “yucca” looking plant sitting in the middle of a whole bunch of other plants. It’s losing leaves left and right. I just found more. But I had a brilliant idea to soak a cotton ball in alcohol and fold it over the long leaves and see if I can’t clean off all the leaves top and bottom at the same time. I will not give up and let it die. Now it sits in the middle of the living room away from all the plants. I will win!!!

Maybe Alice will have some suggestions for your snake plant and the trigon--like a coffee shop or other business. I’m not sure the spiky one will go well in a nursing home. Too spiky.
unfortunately her clients can't take the euphorbia since it has spikes and it would be a liability. and yeah after i edited this video i realized a care home probably wouldn't be any better 😆 in a perfect world my parents could take it home and plant it in their backyard!
I know that this is an older video and you may not see this. But if you do could you please tell me where I can buy the shelving unit that you put your Exo on. Thanks
Hi! I’m not sure if you’re referring to the wire shelving, but if so those are linked in my Amazon storefront! If you’re referring to the cabinet my largest exo is on, that’s actually just a milsbo wide from ikea :)
i barely water it though 😩 and when i do let it go dry, it goes this pale green and drops even more 🤣 it's so strange because i've had that plant for a few years now and this is a new occurrence. i'm super confused :(
Hi enjoy your videos. Glad you are reducing your plants, if they don't bring you joy. I love plants but only have a few. Have other hobbies l enjoy more. Take care
There are rules about trains and their horns. It depends on what type of crossing it is. Like they go longer if it’s an unmarked crossing. But they have rules.
i love watching time lapses too!! i was kinda surprised by how many comments i've received over the last couple of months saying they wish there weren't any in my week of's :(
the lechuza pon you have in your amazonstorefront isn’t available/out of stock. do you have another item link as a substitute for this item 😔 Can you please do a video about getting started with plants in pon ( nutrients, how often it needs to be cleaned/changed, ph, etc)
unfortunately lechuzapon is almost always sold out on amazon and on their website directly :( you can try buying pon from variegatedplants.shop/ but just keep in mind it is going to be more expensive since it's mixed in small batches, but it's good to have if you're in a pinch! i use inna's pon and love it (just needs to be sifted since there is quite a bit of dust in it)
Bahaha. Your train comment..! It goes right through oute littke town and DAYUM, I think sometimes the conductors are in a bad mood and take it out on us 😂🤣😂
i have a fine strainer that catches everything! if you lay a thin piece of paper towel at the bottom of the strainer it catches all the loose dirt and amendments.
you can just use regular castile soap! but since pests are (apparently) deterred from essential oils, the ones with peppermint or tea tree is supposed to work better. i've definitely seen the difference. i've been using regular castile soap for years and it really hasn't worked the way the new soap seems to be working.
@@unplantparenthood I’ll have to try the peppermint Castile soap. I wish I had some other use fit it. It’s such a big bottle and when you only use a little bit at a time it seems to last so long that I feel I’ll never finish it. Lol 😂
you be you queen!! i become more of a karen every year i get older 🤣 i feel like if i had my own home i'd be the kind of person that waves her broom in the air like YOU DANG KIDS GET OF MY DANG LAWN !!

Oh my holy plant!!! I hope i am able to purchase some merch from Denmark 🙈🤞🏼🤞🏼🤩❤️
i can see that a currency selection on the website is DKK (is that the right currency for denmark?) so i believe that they can be shipped there!! 🧡
@@unplantparenthood yes dkk is the currency in Denmark 👌🏼👌🏼 so I will be ready to place my order 🤩😍🤩
Im so so so excited for your merch ! ❤
thank yoooooou 🥺💚
Thank you for the video! 💚🪴💚🪴💚
thank you for watching!!
My rhipsalis was dropping segments like crazy when i was over watering it, maybe try under watering it a little!
i barely water it though 😩 and when i do let it go dry, it goes this pale green and drops even more 🤣 it's so strange because i've had that plant for a few years now and this is a new occurrence. i'm super confused :(
@@unplantparenthood that's so bizarre, have you checked the roots? Maybe it's root bound?
**Question Do you find that the alcohol soap combo causes a residue buildup on your plants?
i haven't noticed any residue at all!
Hi Charmain, your merch design is very artistic and beautiful, I like it! Have you released it yet?
hi mary! i actually haven't shown any of my merch designs yet :) all the shirts i'm wearing in the video is from tropicsnarcotics.com ❤
Oh that’s too bad you’ve run out of stickers. They always look so cute when you get se them.
i definitely need to buy more before i sell the next batch of plants!
Hi enjoy your videos. Glad you are reducing your plants, if they don't bring you joy. I love plants but only have a few. Have other hobbies l enjoy more. Take care
thank you for watching!! 🥰
There are rules about trains and their horns. It depends on what type of crossing it is. Like they go longer if it’s an unmarked crossing. But they have rules.
i looked up the rules and the conductors in my area definitely don't follow them 😅
I’m here to say we still have pests in Alaska 😅
ok then there is no hope for the rest of us 🤣🤣
I’d keep that jar for fungus. You’ll never know when you’ll need it. Put it in a smaller jar.
💚
I love your time lapses 😢😢😢
i love watching time lapses too!! i was kinda surprised by how many comments i've received over the last couple of months saying they wish there weren't any in my week of's :(
💚💚
😘😘😘
I don’t need to see the merch I already love it 😍
ahhh i'm so nervousssss 🙈
@@unplantparenthood don’t be 😍 we all know it’s going to be more than epic!!!
This is like my 499th merch comment.. and my last. I’m so dang excited
ONE MORE WEEEK! i'm so nervous!!
the lechuza pon you have in your amazonstorefront isn’t available/out of stock.
do you have another item link as a substitute for this item 😔
Can you please do a video about getting started with plants in pon ( nutrients, how often it needs to be cleaned/changed, ph, etc)
im located in the u.s
unfortunately lechuzapon is almost always sold out on amazon and on their website directly :( you can try buying pon from variegatedplants.shop/ but just keep in mind it is going to be more expensive since it's mixed in small batches, but it's good to have if you're in a pinch! i use inna's pon and love it (just needs to be sifted since there is quite a bit of dust in it)
You are so stinking cute. Don't cry
🥹
What size(s) is your exo(s)?
I vote for a series about pests please! ✅️‼️❤⚠️
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
❤❤
Bahaha. Your train comment..! It goes right through oute littke town and DAYUM, I think sometimes the conductors are in a bad mood and take it out on us 😂🤣😂

i'm cackling 🤣🤣🤣
I want to buy your anthurium crystallinum x magnificum but I don’t know how I order it from you
When you shower them off like that don’t you worry about dirt going down the drain.
i have a fine strainer that catches everything! if you lay a thin piece of paper towel at the bottom of the strainer it catches all the loose dirt and amendments.
YAYAYAYAYY
🥰🥰
Pillowdendron should def be a thing
i'm pretty sure it's a popular hashtag on instagram from when i last checked! 😄
Never clicked so fast ❤❤❤
thank you for being here chanelle 🥰
We don’t need the plants but we really want them
need vs want definitely plays a factor in this hobby haha! and sometimes very hard to tell the difference.

So could I just use the regular Castile soap instead of using the two kinds of soap. I don’t care t about the smell either way.
you can just use regular castile soap! but since pests are (apparently) deterred from essential oils, the ones with peppermint or tea tree is supposed to work better. i've definitely seen the difference. i've been using regular castile soap for years and it really hasn't worked the way the new soap seems to be working.
@@unplantparenthood I’ll have to try the peppermint Castile soap. I wish I had some other use fit it. It’s such a big bottle and when you only use a little bit at a time it seems to last so long that I feel I’ll never finish it. Lol 😂
Art could become a passion if you didn’t have plants.
i've tried getting into art as a passion a few years ago and it just didn't stick the way plants do!
FIRSSTTT 🥳🥳🥳🥳
it ain’t a party til vladdy’s here 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
@@unplantparenthood hehehe
I'm a Karen and a late stage Boomer. But I will not be ashamed ;)
you be you queen!! i become more of a karen every year i get older 🤣 i feel like if i had my own home i'd be the kind of person that waves her broom in the air like YOU DANG KIDS GET OF MY DANG LAWN !!
Not the mexicanum???🫨 that’s a pretty soecimen
i knowwww 😫 i just don't have the space! and i feel like i got to enjoy it for a good amount of time and now it's time to pass the torch 🥺 i wish i had all the outdoor space in the world to let everything grow wild!
