You are right, they were planning it, but saying that mistake has no consequences is wild. Alicent is not some random commoners, she's literally mother of so called successor and she had more control over him than Otto had. I'm not even talking about that at first Aegon didn't even want to be king, and if Alicent didn't mistake Viserys' words she would speak up against all of that and to put Aegon on the throne would be much much harder. But green defenders gotta do their thing, thats ok
Alicent would have been cast aside make NO mistake This reveal didn’t change any externals but it did make things internally more clear for Rhaenyra that she HAS to go hard to war
the show does kinda a bad job at establishing this but alicent is right in that it’s too late - it’s kinda always been too late? even if she hadn’t misheard viserys it’s pretty clear almost his entire council was planning to install aegon as his successor regardless (which is why i dislike the whole prophecy plotline and how it’s been employed though it is a really funny george costanza moment for alicent). the succession war has literally been inevitable since aegon was born and i think the show did a good job initially setting that up but not so much following up on it, where a lot of the blame ends up falling on alicent though there’s really nothing she can do about it.
season 1 did a good job sowing the seeds of both the smallfolk and members of the council not taking rhaenyra’s claim seriously but i think most viewers kinda forgot about it, lol.
The show does NOT do a bad job, anybody with brains knows there is nothing she can do. Dont start blaming the writers because they assumed their audience was of average intelligence.
Otto could not have pulled off his scheme to install Aegon on the throne without Alicent's help. She absolutely has power and influence of her own despite the patriarchy, especially right after Viserys died.
Alicent was completely right in the end. Its wild how so many people kinda just overlook it because they like Rhaenyra. It’s too late to stop the war. She has no way to stop anyone since everyone is bloodthirsty due to everything that happened. I wouldn’t call her an idiot since well….how was she to know Viserys was talking about their ancestor especially when tensions were so high at the time. It was a mistake, but yeah its too late. Too many people have died, too many people want blood and Alicent without Otto has zero power over these new leaders.
Harrenhal is well known for being cursed since its last day of construction and its burning by Aegon with Balerion… it’s also known to affect and cause bad fate for its inhabitants…
Completely missed the point of the “permitting the death” of the boy. She just blamed Alicent for the death of her Luke when she had nothing to do with it much the same as the Greens blame her for what happened. When did Alicent permit the death of Lucerys? “Everybody else has the hair” you know except for the Strong boys… And that final conversation, Alicent knows she messed up but knows there’s nothing she can do about it at this point. She has no control anymore. On the other side, she now understands there is no other path forward AND she now knows her father never changed his mind. Settles that doubt she had gnawing at her.
Arguably, there was never anything Alicent could do about it. Otto was told by his older brother to push Aegon, in episode 3 of season 1. Episode 5, Otto told Alicent to push Aegon. Episode 9, Alicent told the Council about Viserys's "last minute change of heart" and their reaction was basically "Oh. That's nice. Well anyway, on to our plans we already had in place..." Alicent didn't help anything with her misunderstanding, but she was never going to be able to safeguard Rhaenyra's claim...

Taking Rhaenyra captive actually could have been the thing that hastened the war to it's close. You're so right, it's too late for the royal family to come back together, but the sooner they end the war the fewer people will be dying in battles, raids, burning villages to the ground, etc. Alicent just letting her go was crazy. Young Rhaenyra looked up to Daemon and trusted him while Queen Rhaenyra is disappointed and don't trust in him. Daemon is feeling guilty about the boys death. He does have a conscience.

No one was exceptionally kind to Aemond when he was younger, but I love how this episode really aims to highlight that Aegon has always been his biggest hater. Like, even at his most powerful, Aegon clearly wants to make him feel totally vulnerable and helpless. With all due respect, I still don't understand why you guys think Aemond deserved to lose his eye. First of all, since Vaghar no longer had a rider, he had every right to tame him, so the fact that they attacked him because of it made no sense. Secondly, yes, maybe he called Luuk and his brother bastards during the fight, but that's what they are. And I'm not just saying this because I'm on team green, by the way.
The reason the kids attacked him was because the girls thought they should be first to try and tame her since she was their mother's dragon. There was just too much tension between the boys

I think taking her captive absolutely could have hastened the end of the war. Not stopped it immediately, as long as Daemon lives that could never happen. But it would give them such a huge advantage to make demands. I think most of Rhaenyra's family would rather her be captive than dead. And it's likely most houses (except the most blood thirsty) would assume at that point it was too late and the Greens had won.

I really doubt that even if Alicent had understood Viserys' last words to have nothing to do with her son, the Greens wouldn't have enthroned Aegon II. Otto and his allies on the Council had been planning the takeover for a long time and would not have been determined by what they would have called a grieving wife's foolish concern for her childhood friend. They were planning to send troops to Dragonstone to murder Rhaenyra and her children and everyone else in residence; these men would not have backed down because Alicent remembered her youthful allegiance to Rhaenyra...And it's too late for Alicent to rectify her mistake now; Aegon II sits the Iron Throne and plots bloody vengeance for his dead son. Aegon isn't going to listen to Alicent; and he fired her father; her influence is fading.
I liked what the writers did with her for most of season 1, they made her more sympathetic to a lot of people. But now I think they are just making her stupid, and that's disappointing.
"you know who Aemond is" In my opinion, this sentence had a lot of meaning. Rhynera understood Alicent's meaning very well. The result of creating an old grudge and doing wrong in the past and thinking of revenge and bloodshed in the present. Even if Alicent doesn't want to fight, she can't control someone like Aemond. aemond seeks the justice that was not served to him. Rhyneris points this out very well in this episode and Rhynera herself knows. I think this episode showed the results of wrong decisions in the past very well.

It is their right to claim the dragon. If the dragon doesn't want it, it will kill him, but it is unreasonable and unfair for others to hurt him for claiming the dragon. Even though we know that person will be disabled all his life just because he claimed his right.

While Joffrey is not that close to Rhaena (I think they are just cousins, but the family tree is too weird), Aegon the Baby and Viserys are both her brothers, so it's not like Rhaenyra is just giving her 2 random babies, those are her brothers. It is slightly less shitty if we think of it that way

He has culpability in the fact that he married a 14-year-old girl and while Rhaenyra did not order the death of Jaehaerys, Daemon clumsily did, and a monarch has to answer for anyone under their reign and their actions, or did Aegon not suffer for Aemonds choices? While Rhaenyra was upset, ultimately she will not punish Daemon for his part nor can she control him but somehow expects Alicent, who has even less power than her since she’s not a dragon rider with leverage to have complete control of her dragon riding sons, one of them a king, and a council of men is hypocritical was Rhaenys point.

Alicent never wanted to be queen, she wanted whatever her father wanted because that’s the way young girls are raised. To listen to their fathers, their husband and their sons all throughout their lives and simplifying her in such a way is so disappointing and it shows you really don’t get the message of the show. Of course, alicent is not perfect. I agree everyone is to blame at the end but Otto is the one who started this from the very beginning when Rhaenyra was to be the heir. He’s the one that plotted to have his daughter seduce the king in order for his family to get into power. I'm curious to know what you guys think about Aegons prophecy? To me, it's a really big plot hole on GRRM's part. It makes no sense why such a prophecy should be kept secret? Why is it something only the heir should know about? It feels like a cheap plot point to cause unnecessary drama and conflict imo. Imagine how different things would've played out if the realm was aware of the prophecy and were prepared.
@DiegoFernandesLima GRRM confirmed the prophecy inspired Aegon to conquer the Seven Kingdoms, it was the show that created the idea that this was something passed down from ruler to heir.
It's heavily speculated that Torrhen Stark knew about it too, and that's a big reason why he knelt during the conquest. It isn't strictly from the show only, people have been speculating that Aegon had this prophecy and that's what led him to conquest for decades now - but there's not much reason to tell anybody outside the family about it since it concerns Targs specifically. It's all about the prince that was promised, so not sure what anybody else would do with that. You could even argue in the books that the prophecy was lost EARLY on - we don't know if Maegor was ever told, nor Jaehaerys. The only thing we know for sure is that Rhaegar re-discovered it, and that's why he kidnapped Lyanna Stark.
These reactors are hella biased and hence don't wanna or can't understand the points certain characters make like when Rhaenys said "as you permitted the murder of a little boy" and this is one example. And the way they think blacks are saints and greens are purely evil is just so stupid. As a reactor watch the show unbiased and understand all characters and situations. Take notes from other reactors. The guy keeps cursing characters from team green is so annoying as a Team Black myself. 👎
1. daemon saw young rhaenyra because since she was young she has suffered consequences for daemon's actions. Just remember what happened to her after he planned to take her to the tavern so they could both get married and in the end, she was forced to marry Laenor. as well as it also means that he always abandoned her, like now with him going to harrenhal alone ( even if it is to prove to her that he is on her side and for her cause ). 2. This scene between Rhaenyra and Alicent was stupid, but the best thing was seeing Alicent's face when she realized that she started a war because she believed in the words released by Viserys, who was delirious and almost dying.

Remember back in the first episode in season 1 with Daemon jousting, Gwayne Hightower was one of the guys that Daemon jousted to piss off Otto which was Alicent’s brother. This is that guy that’s in this episode who is riding out with Crispen Cole
Rhaenyras is written as a character that has never had to be handle accountable for actions, Rhaenys explains that its perception and just as much as you can find something that the greens did, you must acknowledge the parts played by you and your people and she immediately dismisses it. Team Green basically has all the characters with Depth(Aemond, Aegon, Alicent, Cole), is it just me or other than Daemon does Team Black have really "Morally rightous" which leads to people that are 1 dimensional. (Otto gets hate for sending Alicent to Viserys but didnt Rhaenys and Corlys offer Lanae as a marriage candidate to strength the house...she was like 11 or 12 🤦♂ Alicent has never lied she had a miss understanding which wasn't her fault if everyone didnt name their son Aegon, and we Crucify her Aemond kils Luke its Alicents fault. Luke takes Aemond eye thats Aemonds fault for fighting back against 4 kids and legitimately claiming Vhagar(yes he Claim Vhagar Legitimately)Daemons gets Jaehaerys killed that wasnt Rhaenyras fault??? huh??? I'm curious is Rhaenyras held accountable for anything. Honestly she may be the realist character because in the world there are people born into wealth and power who can get away with anything because they have fathers who throw around power the cover up their childrens actions and then they grow up entitled. Am I team Green sure because they have better scenes but honestly who care who wins.
Alicent at this point in the championship no longer has as much control as before and she knows this, she even talks about it with Otto before he leaves, that Aegon doesn't listen to her and much less Aemond, and I believe that even Daemon wouldn't calm down until he kills all of the Greens after everything he's already done. I believe that if she were the Queen like before, she could even change something, but now it's too late.
Daemon did have visions (kind of) in Harrenhall. The halls are in fact haunted by all who’ve died there (one was whispering his name when he arrived) One of the most important weirwood trees is very near Harrenhall and those trees are SO important in the books. The Three-eyed Raven can see from the eyes of the trees. What Daemon sees in his vision is his demons he carries with him. In the form of the tiny slain prince and the young Rhaenyra he fell in love with. He’s seeing this bc he never intended the child to be slain, also he sees Rhaenyra because he’s all too aware he abandoned her at court when he knows he should’ve stayed, he feels guilt for all his messes that he leaves for his wife to clean up. This is a very interesting and important turning point for Daemon.
Those were not Daenerys’ dragon eggs. I know that whenever they show several eggs together people want to think those might be them. But it was made clear in the book Fire and Blood where Dany’s eggs came from, with Martin confirming it. The story of where they came from is pretty cool, for anyone interested in reading Fire and Blood. The only further thing I will say about it is that Dany’s eggs have already been taken from Westeros by this time in the Targaryen storyline.
The show has changed this part from the book. The Episode’s director has confirmed that the three reddish-black, gold and green eggs are Daenerys’ dragon eggs.
Elisa Farman theory has more credibility to it than the director's canon. One of them will eventually hatch into Morning, and the other one could also be Viserys's dragon egg. They're in the Vale, so what happened to them is unknown; could be kept by Lady Jeyne. Magister Illyrio mentioned to Daenerys that the dragon eggs he gifted her were from Asshai, and when Jaehaerys went to retrieve the eggs in Braavos, the Sealord mentioned they were already gone, probably stolen back by Elisa when she sailed west of Westeros and Corlys later found her ship in Asshai, or just sold off to to the highest bidder to avert the Targaryens' wrath.
6:08-6:12 "A place at your court" Cody: "That seems hefty." 2 items. 1. She did not have to come back to warn Rhaenyra's guards. 2. A place at court does not mean "a seat on your council:" It is an invitation to remain at court, often to be of service. All the warning she needed to provide to be of benefit to Rhaenyra would be to tell any guard that the twin kings guard was here. This would be enough that the twin queens guard would be informed and the other queens guards would know to look for them both. (I can never keep straight which was Errick and which was Errick)
That woman at Harrenhall is Alys Rivers, a healer, among other things. If the show follows the book, we'll see more of her. Notice when Daemon woke up, he was standing in front of the weirwood tree? A religious/magical icon in a cursed haunted place. 😉 And dragons, they're the nuclear weapons of this show. The sensible people on both sides know not to unleash them against another dragon. The dragons are on good terms with each other at this time, but having them turn on each other, well, they're intelligent beings who would hold a grudge like their riders. We saw this last season when Luc's dragon breathed at Vhagar. Vhagar took it personally and went after that dragon regards of Aemond telling her not to.
The books and show differences make the Dragon Seeds so confusing. So first of all technically the Valaryons i think cant take dragons only Corlys kids because of his wife. And Adam of Hull is suppose to be Laenors basterds not Coryls which explains the dragon riding. Or it might be Laenor himself years later. On top of that a dragon cant be tamed unless the rider dies so it's weird thag in show cannon Laenor basically dies off screen
Alicent misunderstanding Viserys only served to somewhat ease her conscious, and make her feel like she was doing the right thing. The war was coming regardless of what she thought.

People are saying that this last scene is a mistake, poor writing in fact, because it does not seem realistic at all, but I find it interesting how it results in boosting pride in both women and once pride is in command, the old friendship is completely gone and both parties will certainly dig in their heels on their positions. Now there is really no coming back.
The throne was usurped, there was already a plan to not let Rahenyra ascend even if there had not been the misunderstanding about the name Aegon, the meeting and the most unnecessary scene in the entire history of the GOT universe.
The eggs are confirmed to be Dany's. And this right there is a S8-level stupidity moment. It breaks book Canon, it breaks show Canon... Dany's eggs were in Asshai for a time. Usually I defend changes from the source material, but this time I have to say that this change is one of the dumbest changes the entire franchise has ever done.

the show does kinda a bad job at establishing this but alicent is right in that it’s too late - it’s kinda always been too late? even if she hadn’t misheard viserys it’s pretty clear almost his entire council was planning to install aegon as his successor regardless (which is why i dislike the whole prophecy plotline and how it’s been employed though it is a really funny george costanza moment for alicent). the succession war has literally been inevitable since aegon was born and i think the show did a good job initially setting that up but not so much following up on it, where a lot of the blame ends up falling on alicent though there’s really nothing she can do about it.
season 1 did a good job sowing the seeds of both the smallfolk and members of the council not taking rhaenyra’s claim seriously but i think most viewers kinda forgot about it, lol.
The show does NOT do a bad job, anybody with brains knows there is nothing she can do. Dont start blaming the writers because they assumed their audience was of average intelligence.

Arguably, there was never anything Alicent could do about it. Otto was told by his older brother to push Aegon, in episode 3 of season 1. Episode 5, Otto told Alicent to push Aegon. Episode 9, Alicent told the Council about Viserys's "last minute change of heart" and their reaction was basically "Oh. That's nice. Well anyway, on to our plans we already had in place..."
Alicent didn't help anything with her misunderstanding, but she was never going to be able to safeguard Rhaenyra's claim...

I think taking her captive absolutely could have hastened the end of the war. Not stopped it immediately, as long as Daemon lives that could never happen. But it would give them such a huge advantage to make demands. I think most of Rhaenyra's family would rather her be captive than dead. And it's likely most houses (except the most blood thirsty) would assume at that point it was too late and the Greens had won.

I really doubt that even if Alicent had understood Viserys' last words to have nothing to do with her son, the Greens wouldn't have enthroned Aegon II. Otto and his allies on the Council had been planning the takeover for a long time and would not have been determined by what they would have called a grieving wife's foolish concern for her childhood friend. They were planning to send troops to Dragonstone to murder Rhaenyra and her children and everyone else in residence; these men would not have backed down because Alicent remembered her youthful allegiance to Rhaenyra...And it's too late for Alicent to rectify her mistake now; Aegon II sits the Iron Throne and plots bloody vengeance for his dead son. Aegon isn't going to listen to Alicent; and he fired her father; her influence is fading.
That realization on Alicent's face was beyond satisfying. Tho nothing can come of it, just her knowing she fucked up is great. Amazing episode.

The result of creating an old grudge and doing wrong in the past and thinking of revenge and bloodshed in the present. Even if Alicent doesn't want to fight, she can't control someone like Aemond. aemond seeks the justice that was not served to him. Rhyneris points this out very well in this episode and Rhynera herself knows. I think this episode showed the results of wrong decisions in the past very well.

Absolving Viserys and rhaenyra as if they are ONLY victims and not culpable in events is a disservice to the story. Otto cannot force the king to do anything. It was viserys choice to marry Alicent. He has culpability in the fact that he married a 14-year-old girl and while Rhaenyra did not order the death of Jaehaerys, Daemon clumsily did, and a monarch has to answer for anyone under their reign and their actions, or did Aegon not suffer for Aemonds choices? While Rhaenyra was upset, ultimately she will not punish Daemon for his part nor can she control him but somehow expects Alicent, who has even less power than her since she’s not a dragon rider with leverage to have complete control of her dragon riding sons, one of them a king, and a council of men is hypocritical was Rhaenys point.

I'm curious to know what you guys think about Aegons prophecy? To me, it's a really big plot hole on GRRM's part. It makes no sense why such a prophecy should be kept secret? Why is it something only the heir should know about? It feels like a cheap plot point to cause unnecessary drama and conflict imo. Imagine how different things would've played out if the realm was aware of the prophecy and were prepared.

It's heavily speculated that Torrhen Stark knew about it too, and that's a big reason why he knelt during the conquest. It isn't strictly from the show only, people have been speculating that Aegon had this prophecy and that's what led him to conquest for decades now - but there's not much reason to tell anybody outside the family about it since it concerns Targs specifically. It's all about the prince that was promised, so not sure what anybody else would do with that. You could even argue in the books that the prophecy was lost EARLY on - we don't know if Maegor was ever told, nor Jaehaerys. The only thing we know for sure is that Rhaegar re-discovered it, and that's why he kidnapped Lyanna Stark.

1. daemon saw young rhaenyra because since she was young she has suffered consequences for daemon's actions. Just remember what happened to her after he planned to take her to the tavern so they could both get married and in the end, she was forced to marry Laenor. as well as it also means that he always abandoned her, like now with him going to harrenhal alone ( even if it is to prove to her that he is on her side and for her cause ).

Rhaenyras is written as a character that has never had to be handle accountable for actions, Rhaenys explains that its perception and just as much as you can find something that the greens did, you must acknowledge the parts played by you and your people and she immediately dismisses it. Team Green basically has all the characters with Depth(Aemond, Aegon, Alicent, Cole), is it just me or other than Daemon does Team Black have really "Morally rightous" which leads to people that are 1 dimensional. (Otto gets hate for sending Alicent to Viserys but didnt Rhaenys and Corlys offer Lanae as a marriage candidate to strength the house...she was like 11 or 12 🤦♂
Alicent has never lied she had a miss understanding which wasn't her fault if everyone didnt name their son Aegon, and we Crucify her Aemond kils Luke its Alicents fault. Luke takes Aemond eye thats Aemonds fault for fighting back against 4 kids and legitimately claiming Vhagar(yes he Claim Vhagar Legitimately)Daemons gets Jaehaerys killed that wasnt Rhaenyras fault??? huh??? I'm curious is Rhaenyras held accountable for anything. Honestly she may be the realist character because in the world there are people born into wealth and power who can get away with anything because they have fathers who throw around power the cover up their childrens actions and then they grow up entitled.

Alicent at this point in the championship no longer has as much control as before and she knows this, she even talks about it with Otto before he leaves, that Aegon doesn't listen to her and much less Aemond, and I believe that even Daemon wouldn't calm down until he kills all of the Greens after everything he's already done. I believe that if she were the Queen like before, she could even change something, but now it's too late.

Daemon did have visions (kind of) in Harrenhall.
The halls are in fact haunted by all who’ve died there (one was whispering his name when he arrived) One of the most important weirwood trees is very near Harrenhall and those trees are SO important in the books. The Three-eyed Raven can see from the eyes of the trees.
What Daemon sees in his vision is his demons he carries with him. In the form of the tiny slain prince and the young Rhaenyra he fell in love with. He’s seeing this bc he never intended the child to be slain, also he sees Rhaenyra because he’s all too aware he abandoned her at court when he knows he should’ve stayed, he feels guilt for all his messes that he leaves for his wife to clean up. This is a very interesting and important turning point for Daemon.

Those were not Daenerys’ dragon eggs. I know that whenever they show several eggs together people want to think those might be them. But it was made clear in the book Fire and Blood where Dany’s eggs came from, with Martin confirming it. The story of where they came from is pretty cool, for anyone interested in reading Fire and Blood. The only further thing I will say about it is that Dany’s eggs have already been taken from Westeros by this time in the Targaryen storyline.

The show has changed this part from the book. The Episode’s director has confirmed that the three reddish-black, gold and green eggs are Daenerys’ dragon eggs.
Elisa Farman theory has more credibility to it than the director's canon. One of them will eventually hatch into Morning, and the other one could also be Viserys's dragon egg. They're in the Vale, so what happened to them is unknown; could be kept by Lady Jeyne.
Magister Illyrio mentioned to Daenerys that the dragon eggs he gifted her were from Asshai, and when Jaehaerys went to retrieve the eggs in Braavos, the Sealord mentioned they were already gone, probably stolen back by Elisa when she sailed west of Westeros and Corlys later found her ship in Asshai, or just sold off to to the highest bidder to avert the Targaryens' wrath.

All the warning she needed to provide to be of benefit to Rhaenyra would be to tell any guard that the twin kings guard was here. This would be enough that the twin queens guard would be informed and the other queens guards would know to look for them both. (I can never keep straight which was Errick and which was Errick)

That woman at Harrenhall is Alys Rivers, a healer, among other things. If the show follows the book, we'll see more of her. Notice when Daemon woke up, he was standing in front of the weirwood tree? A religious/magical icon in a cursed haunted place. 😉 And dragons, they're the nuclear weapons of this show. The sensible people on both sides know not to unleash them against another dragon. The dragons are on good terms with each other at this time, but having them turn on each other, well, they're intelligent beings who would hold a grudge like their riders. We saw this last season when Luc's dragon breathed at Vhagar. Vhagar took it personally and went after that dragon regards of Aemond telling her not to.
The books and show differences make the Dragon Seeds so confusing. So first of all technically the Valaryons i think cant take dragons only Corlys kids because of his wife. And Adam of Hull is suppose to be Laenors basterds not Coryls which explains the dragon riding. Or it might be Laenor himself years later. On top of that a dragon cant be tamed unless the rider dies so it's weird thag in show cannon Laenor basically dies off screen

People are saying that this last scene is a mistake, poor writing in fact, because it does not seem realistic at all, but I find it interesting how it results in boosting pride in both women and once pride is in command, the old friendship is completely gone and both parties will certainly dig in their heels on their positions. Now there is really no coming back.
Daemon see's young Rhaenyra because he stole her innocence. He see's the other child because... ya. It's a moment of clarity.
