      @@alexsheppe I made a copy of your Google Sheets and noticed that the class “Introduction to Communication: Connecting with Others” is “3” units, when I change the satisfied: “no” to a “yes” it doesn’t update the completed assignments tracker for “3 units completed”

      @Logangil515 Probably a glitch using it in Google Sheets. Just download it from my website on the Information Technology page.

    Great video Alex, thanks for taking the time to create these spreadsheets for us they’re really helpful. What is your opinion on the accelerated Bachelors in IT and Masters in IT management program at WGU?

    I'm a data center tech right now making 90k a year. My company offers education reimbursement, so I figured I'd get something because why not? I haven't messed with coding or anything CS-related, but I've been leading projects for the last six months. I enjoy leading projects, and I think I'd want to be a PM or another type of management role because I enjoy leadership. But I also want to make the most money I can make, and I'm not sure which route is best for that. Not knowing if I like coding or not, I'm interested in CS, but I also feel like IT into IT management masters would be the best path for my current career. Tough decisions, totally not sure where to start. What are your thoughts? (I came into this role slightly above entry level because of previous experience and contracting with this company for a year, but I know SEs here start closer to $180-200k TC with just the degree.)

      I’d aim for the CS or SE Masters personally. SE if you want to avoid Discrete Math 2 and Data Structures 2.

      @@alexsheppe Thank you for the reply! I do not see a CS or SE Master's at WGU. Do you mean getting an SE or CS bachelor's, then going for the IT Management Master's?

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  Місяць тому +1

      Sorry I meant Bachelor’s. Do you have a Bachelor’s? Because if so, I would advise getting a Masters in CS/SE that’s not WGU.

      @@alexsheppe At the moment, I have just a basic 2-year transfer degree from my local community college. And ok cool! So aiming for a bachelor's at the moment sounds like the way to go. How do you know if SE or CS is the right choice?

    As someone going into all this with no IT experience. But i have time to pursue a degree and eventual career shift. I was thinking IT degree would be broad enough to maybe give me more options at the start; get something entry level hopefully and then pivot towards a more niche profession.
    Not sure if this is the right path. But as of now i am just working in ACE credits so i have a little time to think about this.

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  4 місяці тому +3

      If you really want the most entry job, Help Desk/Help Support Technician. That’s a pretty common start with an I.T. degree. Do a year of that and add certs during that year and decide if you want to get into security, cloud, devops, or administration.

      Also working on another website which will show career roadmaps, give step by step instructions, teach a little programming, and data structures. That site won’t be free but I’ve been giving away free content for 20 years now. Major Mash will always be a free educational index and I will keep adding degrees all over the country to it.

    Why not max out the credits you can get at sophia? They are after all just as valuable towards the degree and cheaper (plus not proctored). I think right now its 11 courses that go towards the WGU IT degree.

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  4 місяці тому +1

      It could be good to use a combination of the sites, do whatever works for you. Study’s and SL’s credits are more universally accepted if you decide WGU isn’t for you, plus Study has more transferrable classes to hack the degree. I am going off my own experience. But Sophia is a good affordable tool. I personally don’t like the interface at all, but it’s definitely better looking than Saylor, and very affordable. Keep me updated on your progress Lawrence.

    Do you happen to know if a Google IT Support Professional Cert is transferable at WGU and if so, which course/courses it would cover? Also Thank you for this invaulable video!!

      I don’t believe so but I could be wrong. If you Google “WGU partner list” it will have a list of partners and then you click on the degree you’re planning to take and it’ll show you which classes transfer over.

    Hi Alex, I really love your content!!! Quick question, for me, all I need is an IT bachelor degree asap (Not IT Management though), I have a business bachelor and have been working as BA and PM positions for 7 years which got me good amount of exposure to data, analytics and a little bit of front end development. Out of all the WGU IT programs, which one would you say is the easiest to accelerate? Would BS IT be the one? Thanks a lot for your insights!!

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  2 місяці тому +1

      That’s a tough, I wouldn’t say any of the tech degrees are easy to accelerate, but maybe Software Engineering.

    I already have Sec+, and working on AWS CP. ( I`m not in WGU yet, working on transferable credits)
    Certs I can prestudy and do easily through WGU:
    - A+
    -Net+(I know CCNA is better, but I choose easier, woulda went for it, if I did not have Sec+, because it closes 2 classes).
    BUT are there any alternatives to :
    -Advanced CIW HTML5 and CSS3 Specialist
    -ITIL Foundations Version 4
    -CIW User Interface Designer
    -CompTIA: Linux+ ?
    Thx
