  • Peter Joseph presents "Art - Science: Alloys" (Xenakis) at the Zeitgeist Media Festival 2014. In this talk he profiles Iannis Xenakis and discusses the "alloy" of Art and Science and its relevance in gesture and reality.
We apologize for for the semi-distorted sound and low light video
    About:
Recognizing the power of art and media to help change the world, the annual "Zeitgeist Media Festival" (ZMF) bridges the artistic & activist communities in the hope to inspire change. It recognizes that needed changes in the structural/economic workings of society can only manifest in tandem with a personal/social transformation of values in each of us. While intellectual knowledge serves its role of showing the path, many in the world follow their feelings and comforts - not new knowledge.
Art is considered the most powerful tool we have to bridge these levels of awareness and inspire action for change. Keeping the gesture of the long history of influential artistic creators whose vision have changed our world for the better, The ZMF works to unify the world through this expression with the basic ethos that we are one species sharing one planet and it is time the world learns to work together for the betterment of all before it is too late.
All ZMF Events are Non-Profit / At Cost Expressions and are organized and run by volunteers. While this is a Global idea and all events are important, we feature one "Main Event" each year which is promoted directly. In 2012, this main event will be in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

As Xenakis is my favourite composer and the humour in this is great, this may be my favourite presentation I've seen, I keep coming back to it because I love it! thank you so much!!!

One of the most destructive things a person can do is to get up everyday and go to their job, never thinking twice about why they have to go in the first place.

Xenakis has been my favorite composer since Electro-Acoustical Music was released on Vinyl. I would play Bohor at Max vol. and watch my friends flee for the door about 2/3rds the way through it. His work always has had a disturbing effect on most of the people I know. It's beautiful to my ears!

Peter's right, once comfortable in their 'zeitgeist' the 'sheeple' mentality is to resist change. I have some optimism in as much as the current and last generation have had to get used to change due to the instability of our economic model as well as the constant re-organisation within industries to squeeze the last drop of profit. We have and are seeing accelerated change, both good and bad in society. At least we are used to change now rather than rigidity although some things like religion and greed are going to hang around stubbornly preventing rapid transition to sustainable prosperity through rational collaboration. The important thing is for those of who understand to communicate the answers.
PJ never disappoints, he's the sort of intellect that should be in the UN if ever it was to become a credible force for change and peace. I hope it doesn't take another generation to be understood because we don't have the time to avoid massive collapse.
