After losing in the playoffs by the Pistons for a third year in a row, MJ still shows great sportsmanship by congratulating the Pistons at the end. They just don't have enough of that in today's game. ..
What amazes me the most is how MJ, whose inside was a mix off sadness, anger, and disappointment could keep his composure and just look forward, without complaining. Which he had the right to do, since his team was incredible subpar this game, while the Pistons keep his usual dirty game. Is this kind of attitude that made him the best.
Win or loss, MJ was still a great sport. They were 1 game away from an NBA Finals appearance. So close. Yet he still managed to keep his poise after this heartbreaking loss. Shook the Bad Boys' hands and did not run to the bus like a baby.
MJ has at a minimum three players challenging him on every possession, he's weaving through intense physical defense time and time again, and yet he still has enough energy to press the ball-handlers full court. Unreal.
What class. Go to 10:20 and just sit there in awe of the player that Jordan was. Sure, OFF CAMERA, Jordan went into rage mode and drilled his team on the bus. But in public, he was all class. Combine this man with the basketball talent he had.... perfect athlete.
I watched that post game interview from my couch as a child in Detroit and I made fun of Jordan during the interview I loved the bad boy pistons but in that moment I became one of the most die-hard Jordan fans on earth I literally mean that. My walls stayed plastered w Jordan posters for the next 10 years into high school.,I only wore Jordans,I only went to the Palace of Auburn Hills when the Bulls came to town. For Christmas I asked only for league pass to watch the Bulls. As an adult I think Jordan is a bit jaded as a person but I'll forever be in debt to the memories and inspiration he gave me. It all started in that last interview of this video. My God time flies.
Wow. I find it funny how it's not in the moment, but later I see the most firm evidence of Jordan's greatness as a competitor. When you look over all of the events of his career, this is the moment where he was more tested than ever before, and we all know how he responded from here. LeBron may have a moment like this, in terms of a "Last season before breakthrough", and maybe we have now seen it. But he'll never have broken through with the team that drafted him. That's a great accomplishment.
The Bulls' last playoff series loss until the 1994 Eastern Conference Semifinals to the New York Knicks. It would be MJ's last playoff series loss until the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Orlando Magic. However, it would be his final playoff series loss of his career when he has played a full season.
the last 40 seconds of this video is evidence as to WHY Michael Jordan was the best ever. No bitching, no whining, no......leaving the court like a petulant five year old before the end of the game......a true champion.
The Interview at the end showed just how much Jordan had great poise and was a true competitor. Kinda unusual to interview the losing player in 1990, especially a game 7. I'm sure most players don't want to be in that situation and thinking "I just lost game 7 to this team I can't beat yet"....but he was calm, he knew he was gonna get back and after winning six titles later on, he never looked back...
after this day the man became the man this is what he needed to become the man after this loss the rest was forever history and what he did not know at the time that lucky number 6 was on the way
Exactly! Finally a man with 100% truth on this subject. Jordan was in-and-all and all-in-all and without Jordan, the Bulls would be a lotto team or a first round exit at best with those guys. The Pistons would have wound up playing against Cleveland, New York or Philadelphia in '89, '90, and '91.
I've never really liked Michael Jordan, but that's a true sportsman. He didn't walk off the court without shaking hands with the opposing team, but instead congratulated them on their performance.
They could have, but winning the 7th game on the road of a playoff series was an extremely difficult thing to do. Between 1982 and 1995, no team ever did such. In 1982 the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the ECF at the Boston Garden, and in 1995, the Houston Rockets beat the Phoenix Sins at America West Arena Game 7 of the WCSF. Between those two times, no road team ever won game 7 in any round of a playoff series.
The best team won. Since Jordan is "The GOAT," the Pistons achieved the greatest 3-peat in NBA history. If Isiah wasn't diminished by wrist injury, the Piston probably make it a 4-peat over the Bulls and a 3-peat NBA championship.
@@kamfisher1714 If not for Isiah's ankle injury, the Pistons easily beat the Lakers in '88 finals. The Lakers needed a phantom foul call on Laimbeer to give Jabbar two free throws to win Game 7. Magic pulled his hamstring in '89 finals because he couldn't keep up with Detroit's superior guards. He basically tapped out because he was getting busted in front of his hometown.

When ever i think of the Detroit Pistons i think of Isiah Thomas. & as in the description says then the Chicago Bulls would go onto dominate the rest of the decade & that's putting it lightly lol. Dennis Rodman had quite the career with both teams as well. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is directly across the river from Detroit for those who weren’t aware of that. As a Canadian & with Toronto having an NBA Team now makes it that much more enjoyable for us Canadians to watch & with the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA Championship was obviously huge for Canada 🇨🇦 & with Canada only having 1 team in the NBA & 1 team in the “MLB” league with the Toronto Blue Jays who won back to back MLB Championships was huge for Canada as well. For Canada it’s like the “Olympics” because of us only having 1 team which makes it awesome because it’s kind of like Canada vs the U.S.A. - But anyways i loved watching the Detroit Pistons & Chicago Bulls during this era because there was some insanely talented players that’s for sure🏀 + Basketball was invented by Canada 😉
The '96 Sonics allowed 102.1ppg & were ranked 2nd in Team 'D, and were allowed to be MUCH MORE physical & aggressive under the old defensive rules. 2010 Celtics allowed 103.8 & were ranked 5th in Team 'D. A past his prime MJ beat the Sonics in 6, prime kobe beat boston in 7. MJ was guarded by a YOUNGER DPOY winner (primed G.P.), kobe was guarded MAINLY by guys who've NEVER made an All-Defensive Team. FACT: MJ's WORST avg for a Finals ('96), is still BETTER than kobe's career finals avg..
MJ, what a class act. He may be the one of the few NBA superstars who really had to build a dynasty from scratch. He really earned his success. Kobe? Yeah right. Tell me when KB played on a really bad Lakers Team. LeBron? I wish him well but wouldn't it be some sort of twisted poetic justice if the Heat didn't win any titles with the big three? Karma can be a b........sometimes.
haha...Never said I was a Heat fan. (Portland Trail Blazer btw) I'm a LeBron James fan. Ever since I read a Sports Illustrated article on him during his High School years. I'm no bandwagon but I can respect the skills of other players on other teams. I personally want LeBron James to Cleveland in 14 to see how the Cavs fan base will react.
seemingly? the pistons had a 19 point lead with 58 seconds left! mark aguirre was going in for an uncontested layup. referees don't usually whistle players on uncontested layups when the game is close. and further, yes, he didn't travel! i have to think he made that call to make some point. why did the announcers say he was looking right at michael jordan when he made the call?
The Lakers true Finals opponent was in the western conference finals during their 2000-02 3-peat. That pacers team was no push over though. That was pretty much the same pacer team that took Jordan's bulls to a full 7 games in the '98 east finals. The 01 76ers had the leauge MVP, Defensive player of the year, 6th man of the year & coach of the year. As for Kidd's Nets, yeah, clear mismatch.
"What did shaq win before he was a Laker" He did make the Finals & won a Conference Title. % of LA's pts scored in the Finals 2000: Shaq 38% to kobe's 14% 2001: Shaq 33% to kobe's 23% 2002: Shaq 36% to kobe's 24% 2004: Shaq 26% (was injured) to kobe's 27%
That's cool bro. Wouldn't that be crazy if he went back? What would they do? After being so pissed (understandably) at how he left, having to welcome him back. Man, I wanna see that too :)
Everybody uses excuses for Isiah Thomas when he loses instead of accepting facts.This was the last playoff series he would win against Mike.After this game Mike switched his focus on the pistons and used the triangular offense to break down their defense it was a team effort.
@@hectorlopez1069 Of the Jordan era, yes. Lakers beat the Bulls twice in game 7, in 71 and 73, with the home team winning every game of both Laker series those yrs, just like here in 1990, home team won every game. Warriors in 75 West Finals, also gave Chicago a 7th game loss at that point.
23 is being held back by his teammates year after year, he should take his talent to Broadway or Philly to team up with his buddies and win a few chips.
Even at 27, barely making 3 million per season, he was a very gracious sport. He represents the era of true sportsmen, as our present day is represented by money hungry players, egotistical primadonnas who can't shake hands after games and greedy bastards who take their talents to South Beach thinking they will win. No chance.
Earl Strom is the guy who called the travel on Mark Aguirre at the end of the game that the commentators were incredulous about. Why would Earl Strom call Mark Aguirre for a travel when the game was obviously over? And I replayed it three times: It wasn't even a travel! Was he trying to make some point?
@tbanks77 I don't need LBJ to tell me that from 2000-present, there's been MORE 20 win and sub .500 teams than ANY ERA in NBA history. I also don't need him to tell me that in that same stretch, there's also been more seasons of teams to win 39 or LESS games in NBA history too! And I REALLY don't need him to tell me that this was a PRIMARY FACTOR in the league's decision making when they changed the rules in this era, because they were trying to make things EASIER to compensate for all of this.
At least He stayed and gave an interview after the loss, I remember a year later when the Bulls swept these same Pistons,that punk Thomas was chanting LETS GO LAKERS at the end of game 4. I`m so glad that He wasn`t part of the Dream Team.
@DoomDarenxbourg Why next June? We can talk about whether Kobe is the best Laker ever. Magic has five titles and I am not even sure Kobe is better than Magic. No way Magic in his prime misses the playoffs with Odom and a decent supporting cast like Kobe did in 04-05. Btw, which Lakers team with Magic on it missed the playoffs?
@wannabeserpento99 Yeah he's solid defensively. But the point I was making is that there were MORE perimeter players in MJ's era that actually WON DPOY. There's only been 1 to win it in the last 13 years. That ALONE ought to tell U guys something!
The Bulls got smashed by 19* in a game 7. Jordan had 31pts, 9ast, 8rebs... the rest of the team? Pippen: 1-10 FG; Grant: 3-17 FG; Hodges: 3-13 FG; Armstrong: 1-8 FG; Cartwright: 3-9 FG It was literally MJ vs. the Pistons this game; he had no help at all.
Since when did Jordan need help? I thought he did it all by himself? Rodman as on that Pistons team that kept smashing Jordan year in year out, how did he end up on Jordan's team?
Nobody does it entirely alone; basketball is a team game. The issue is "to what degree was contribution made by [insert player]?" Hakeem led the Rockets in all 5 major stat categories in the '94 playoffs - i.e. he *carried* that team - but technically his teammates contributed also (to a far lesser degree). Same goes for MJ... the Playoff Win Shares says it all. MJ *always* led the Bulls in that category.
Dregsandguan Some facts, not opinions. Four future Hall of Fame players on the Detroit Pistons of that era. 1990 Pistons were recently voted by active NBA coaches to be in the top ten EVER NBA teams. Jordan was great but the Pistons were loaded with talent. No disgrace to lose to the Pistons of this era. Isiah Thomas had a winning playoff record against Magic, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. HOF Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Adrian Dantley. Also, all-stars Laimbeer and Mark Aguirre. Great rivalry, great basketball in a much tougher league.
@DoomDarenxbourg We could go for a long time and not be done. But there's nothing to discuss really. MJ has SIX championships. When Bryant gets there, maybe we can talk.........
see thats the thing with people who never saw MJ before he had the rings. He was always about "we're going to come back better" and you know he went to the gym that night and put up jump shots. LBJ is just different mentally. Shame. Simmons.
MJ is on his own level...but that interview at the end reminded me of Kobe more than anyone else...screw LBJ...i hope miami makes it to the finals and gets the crap kicked out of em by LA for that 3peat!!!!!!
piston had to play dirty just to beat the bulls they punked everybody around jordan with dirty tactics.piston are lucky they won 2,rings cuz if jordan had real players around him pistons never get out the east
Jordan's stats for this game: 31 pts (13-27 FG), 8 rbs, 9 ast Other Bulls players field goals: Pip - 1-10, Grant 3-17, Cartwright 3-9 , Hodges 3-13 , Armstrong 1-8 (a combined 11-58 from the field) motorcitybadboys com/box-score-1990-eastern-conference-finals-game-7.php
@tbanks77 "MJ never beat a team with a combo like Kobe/Shaq" So what was Shaq and a PRIME Penny Hardaway (B4 the injury)? And Shaq & kobe's lakers never beat teams of that ilk either! So what are U talkin' about?!! And MJ's Bulls went UNDEFEATED against Robinson & Duncan in the 90s! "The Bulls never beat a team with 3 or 4 hall of famers on one squad" Try the '91 Pistons..
@hectorlopez1069 Doesn't matter what people think, most important it's the fact of Jordan didn't make excuse, came back and beat this piston team. And after that they are the one who making excuse
When he was out for those 6 games this year, L.A.'s defensive efficiency rating was a JAW DROPPING 88.5, and 5 out of 6 'em were against PLAYOFF teams LOL!! They play BETTER 'D and move the ball MUCH BETTER w/o him.. When he's in the game, they avg about 21.6apg, without him, it's 21.0apg..not that big a difference.
@AndreaRiv100 Putting up ungodly numbers with inferior teammates. The same teammates that stepped there games up b/c they didn't want to be the reason he didn't win. The 89-90 pistons had 9 great players Thomas, Dumars, Mahorn, Laimbeer, Edwards, Aguirre, Rodman, Vinnie johnson, Salley. 88 they had dantley who at one point averaged 30 a game. The bulls had Mike and Scottie and a bunch of mediocre role players. And scottie didn't become an all-star until 90 and a superstar in 92. 1 doesn't beat 5

How do I favorite this
The '96 Sonics allowed 102.1ppg & were ranked 2nd in Team 'D, and were allowed to be MUCH MORE physical & aggressive under the old defensive rules.
"What did shaq win before he was a Laker"
He did make the Finals & won a Conference Title.
% of LA's pts scored in the Finals
2000: Shaq 38% to kobe's 14%
2001: Shaq 33% to kobe's 23%
2002: Shaq 36% to kobe's 24%
2004: Shaq 26% (was injured) to kobe's 27%
The most pivitol game of the season and Scottie Pippen came down with a "migraine headache."
Pippenb scores 2 points on 1-10 shooting
That's cool bro. Wouldn't that be crazy if he went back? What would they do? After being so pissed (understandably) at how he left, having to welcome him back. Man, I wanna see that too :)
Where is scottie?
Everybody uses excuses for Isiah Thomas when he loses instead of accepting facts.This was the last playoff series he would win against Mike.After this game Mike switched his focus on the pistons and used the triangular offense to break down their defense it was a team effort.
You are correct. In fact, the Bulls never lost a home game during the '90 playoffs.
This is the only game 7 loss by the bulls.
UA-cam didn;t remove shit, I removed it because it had a typo in it so I re-did it..
23 is being held back by his teammates year after year, he should take his talent to Broadway or Philly to team up with his buddies and win a few chips.
I TOO HAVE COME HERE BY THE GUIDING HAND OF MR. RICHARD SIMMONDS
@tbanks77
I don't need LBJ to tell me that from 2000-present, there's been MORE 20 win and sub .500 teams than ANY ERA in NBA history.
@falkner23 Kobe took smush parker & kwame brown to back to back playoffs with them as his starting point guard & center! That was amazing!
@Jhanley489 I guess that depends on how you define success.
At least He stayed and gave an interview after the loss, I remember a year later when the Bulls swept these same Pistons,that punk Thomas was chanting LETS GO LAKERS at the end of game 4. I`m so glad that He wasn`t part of the Dream Team.
Let's go Lakers, really?
@berkamore Just like jordan had alot of help in game 6 of the 1996 finals when he scored 22 points on 5-19 shooting.
@carmelo15fade I just got a noticeable uptick in my respect for Mr. Jordan as well.
Also, the Sports Guy sent me.
@DoomDarenxbourg
Why next June?
We can talk about whether Kobe is the best Laker ever.
Magic has five titles and I am not even sure Kobe is better than Magic.
No way Magic in his prime misses the playoffs with Odom and a decent supporting cast like Kobe did in 04-05.
Btw, which Lakers team with Magic on it missed the playoffs?
DEEE-TROIT
BASKETBALL
@wannabeserpento99
Yeah he's solid defensively.
But the point I was making is that there were MORE perimeter players in MJ's era that actually WON DPOY.
There's only been 1 to win it in the last 13 years.
That ALONE ought to tell U guys something!
@massmissmoss
I think you missed the point of this simmons link.
notice the differnece between that and lebron. lbj couldnt even talk to the media, or give dwight howard any props.
Did Detroit take them seriously when they got sweept the year after?
Hmm idk
See guys, even Jordan got smashed by 20 in a GAME 7 of the ECF.
The Bulls got smashed by 19* in a game 7. Jordan had 31pts, 9ast, 8rebs... the rest of the team?
Pippen: 1-10 FG; Grant: 3-17 FG; Hodges: 3-13 FG; Armstrong: 1-8 FG; Cartwright: 3-9 FG
It was literally MJ vs. the Pistons this game; he had no help at all.
+gmn545 jordan was playing with punks
@DoomDarenxbourg
Your boy Kobe is not looking too good these days, is he? At least the Dallas series put all those MJ comparisons to rest. LOL.
@DoomDarenxbourg
We could go for a long time and not be done.
Shame.
Simmons.
MJ is on his own level...but that interview at the end reminded me of Kobe more than anyone else...screw LBJ...i hope miami makes it to the finals and gets the crap kicked out of em by LA for that 3peat!!!!!!
dallas did it forem
even in defeat they interview Jordan instead of my Bad Boys
I love this, as simmons points out, classy in losses and classy in wins. LeBron what a chump. I loath the Miami Cheats.
Wow!!!!!! Didn't know Jordan flopped!!! 0:46
You see HE STAYED. Lebron, enjoy your super team and a championship, but you can never consider yourself KING again
They get over hyped to get the crowd involved in the game its how the knicks just lost to the pacers in game 6 yesterday
Stressed michael at 5:30.
piston had to play dirty just to beat the bulls they punked everybody around jordan with dirty tactics.piston are lucky they won 2,rings cuz if jordan had real players around him pistons never get out the east
Coulda shoulda woulda. Pistons only team to take out birds Celtics Magic’s lakes and cry baby Jordan’s bulls, 3 TIMES!!! Suck it!
Jordan's stats for this game:
31 pts (13-27 FG), 8 rbs, 9 ast
Other Bulls players field goals:
Pip - 1-10, Grant 3-17, Cartwright 3-9 , Hodges 3-13 , Armstrong 1-8 (a combined 11-58 from the field)
motorcitybadboys com/box-score-1990-eastern-conference-finals-game-7.php
Bill Simmons for people that are lost
@tbanks77
"MJ never beat a team with a combo like Kobe/Shaq"
So what was Shaq and a PRIME Penny Hardaway (B4 the injury)?
And Shaq & kobe's lakers never beat teams of that ilk either! So what are U talkin' about?!!
And MJ's Bulls went UNDEFEATED against Robinson & Duncan in the 90s!
"The Bulls never beat a team with 3 or 4 hall of famers on one squad"
Try the '91 Pistons..
Scottie Pippen had a migraine headache in gm 7
Always making excuses for Jordan.
@hectorlopez1069
Doesn't matter what people think, most important it's the fact of Jordan didn't make excuse, came back and beat this piston team.
Until that point the Pistons were to the Bulls what the Bulls were to the Cavs in the late 80s and early 90s.
Simmons!!!!
And scottie didn't become an all-star until 90 and a superstar in 92. 1 doesn't beat 5
simmons...this one is a classic. just another reason why bron bron will never be on par with MJ.
