"Swim, run, fly" I like how this illustrates how the Wahoo doesn't really knowwhat humans are, but wants them to get away by whatever means they travel
It's sweet in a way.
@@bigboynow7936agreed, it shows that even though it doesn't know anything about even the nature of humankind itself, it's selfless enough to wish them safety
do we know what it was warning them for?
@@callmecarrots9628 Perhaps the Crown of Thorns? not sure tho
Yeah I love how it kinda shows he may not know anything about human society and the nature of anyone that he cares enough and is considerate enough to warn them. To want them safe. Selflessness
Arguile Finch: [makes a passionate and beautiful speech about how vices isn't all there is in the world and love is what keeps us alive]
Also Arguile Finch, a minute later: "DON'T FUCKING TRUST CRABS THEY'RE SPYING ON ALL OF US"
The duality of man
Reject Arguile
Return to crab
I thought that was funny too haha. I’m glad someone commented this
my guy is still a fisherman
I *need* a creepy subnautica-esque game with enigmorphs in it
If you play table top RPGs, subjectively released a d20 supplement using these creatures from the last mermay.
@@L337P1R4735 where can i find it???
@@L337P1R4735 That sounds fun, I'll track it down!
@@L337P1R4735where can I find it?
Try Barotrauma!
It makes me so unreasonably happy to not only see an enigmorph based on a seal, but to know that that one was an ally of sorts. Seals are one of my most beloved animals.
Wotor puppy
@@Jormyyy no, those are gators

I love how Mazian Gyarados has similar colours to the banana Pokémon he designed.
Ooh! Now that you point that out, that could be a fascinating mechanic and feed into the lore so well!
People come to fish up the Gyrados but instead get Nanahi.
:D
God, I ADORE these deep sea monstrosities! Such beautiful ways of implying animalistic features through humanoid anatomy! Really gets me in the vibe to run a creepy underwater D&D Campaign!
THE GULPER EEL 🤯🤯😱😱 easily one of my favorite drawings you've ever done and definitely my favorite of all the mermay prompts. Amazing work!!
I do feel the need to point out that the basic design seems to have been heavily inspired by the Tumblr user salamispots' gulper eel mermaid - similar pose, and the same idea of using the arms and clasped hands as the lower jaw.
@@GALL0WSHUM0R ty for pointing me towards more gulper eel mermaids!
Loved all the mermaids this time, and also appreciated Argyle’s clarification as to the difference between Enigmorphs and Fishfolk
Tiny thing with the Gyarados line. The gold works perfectly with the pallette and is also just really pretty, but it would have been cool to see them be based on the several metric tonnes of platinum found in Ecuador that the Spanish found and dumped into the ocean, finding no use for it themselves and growing annoyed with how often criminals would make counterfeit gold with it.
It works with the oceanic theme, as well as that idea of “not judging a book by its cover” that is so central to the Kantonian and Mazian Magikarp lines. Plus Ecuador is relatively close to Mexico, and shares plenty of cultural traits with it.
Finch: *gives heartfelt speech about holding on to love and compassion*
Finch, 15 seconds later: 6:58
Dang, I was expecting for the spider crab to be some sort of arachne not a head crawling around. It's cool! but those hands though, scary.
Yesterday something really sad happenned and im still trying to get through it, but im very happy that there's amazing people like you who constantly motivate me to improve as an artist everytime i watch their videos and just watching my favorite content creators really helps me get through this
Glad we can help! Hope things get better!
@@Subjectively Mega Mazah Gyarados pls
Your mermay series is my favorite series on the channel, and it really makes me want to see your take on fan-made Bloodborne designs
Huh, I just realized I want Finch to meet the Apoctober team and him telling them all about the deep sea enimorphs and the crown of thorns.
Didn't they do that last apoctober? I remember Argyle showing up at some point.
@@lunarcod7187 it was found out that they read his journal, but that they've never met face-to-face
@@lunarcod7187 I believe you're right. They reached out to Argyle who didn't want to get involved, but directed them to his old partner, who was too busy helping the seafolk with the Crown of Thorns if I recall right.
Something tells me that it'll happen this October
@@thedragonwarrior5861 oh no they did meet with him, I think he also tried to harpoon Bonnie once he found out he was an enigmorph
Bannana Pinnaple Rock Gyarados looks tasty.
EVERYTHING about these monthly drawing challenges is amazing, from the storytelling, to the art, and mystery of what is truly going on. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERYTHING YOU GUYS DO! CANNOT WAIT FOR KAIJUNE >:D i think i am going to attempt these last few weeks because i have never done this challenge before.
wish the gyarados was an alternate evolution (like runerigus) instead of a regional form. mostly because i thought of the name dorados - as in gyarados + dorado (spanish for gold, plus it brings to mind el dorado, the mythical city of gold which feels conceptually fitting)
This is probably my favorite regional Gyarados design I've seen!
The defensive stat spread for it hurts my soul though lol
I love your monthly challenges videos so much!! You’ve really been improving a lot as an artist the designs you shared are among your best work so far
Mazian Gyarados is basically “don’t covet, love it.”
[singing]
Baby beluga, baby beluga
Is the water warm
Is your mama home with you, so happy
Love love love the gulper eel concept i think it's gonna be may favorite for this month
Every time I see a new mermay week has been uploaded, I get compelled to binge the whole series again 🖤
I think it'd be cool if this version got its own Mega Evolution like Kantonian Gyrados does. Speaking of which, will any of the Mazah Gym Leaders have Mega Evolutions? Mega Milotic would be a great ace for the Water Gym Leader.
These monthly challenges never cease to amaze me! Fantastic job Jack!
Take good care of yourself too--the level of thought, care, and quality you put into your work is phenomenal and it must take a crap ton of effort!
I love the gulper eel design so much. While it looks freaky they way the mouth/arms are drawn make it look like it would have a very demure almost way of swimming and then it opens it arms and it’s just mouth and teeth and I love it so much💚
Yay, I’m finally early for one of these. These are so good, both the Pokèmon, and Argyle’s Journal. I can’t get enough of either. Keep up the good work, and I wish everyone who reads this a good day.
I very much appreciate you leaving the color in these this time around. It truly adds an extra level of depth and appreciation for both the creature (fictional and real) as well as your artistic skill. It's also nice to hear Argyle Finch has a more open and positive opinion towards the creatures he has encountered, which allows him to be all the more discerning and give proper warnings about the ones that are dangerous!
Love the new Gyarados and Magikarp. Hope they evolve via friendship as well as level-up.
The new MerMay videos are amazing. The Mazian Magikarp and Gyarados look absolutely awesome. But among your Enigmorphs, the Beluga Whale is my current fav, it also came at a good time with Mother’s Day this Sunday!
The leopard seal referencing that one photoshoot is great XD
I love the body horror elements of the mermay drawings! Theyre so interesting and fun and its so awsome!
I love how you included that once you become close enough to your Magikarp that it is able to evolve, you may not even want it to evolve anymore!Very sweet!
Zoology student here? Fun fact: goose barnacles are actually crustaceans! When the barnacles filter feed, they open their shells and extend specialised appendages that are actually highly jointed legs. So instead of arms, the barnacle mer could have been reaching out with some super creepy branch-like legs. Or even with elongated toes! XD
I am so darn curious how you do the voice!
Do you think you could give us a video on how you voice act for your stories and edit them so cleanly?
It's hard to notice any alterations! It's amazing!
My mouth dropped when I saw the Gulper Eel with the arms making the mouth. Utterly brilliant my guy!
one day Argyle Finch will come to TV or Movie Screens and i will be there for it and sing its praises forever.
I must say, the descriptions of those Enigmorphs is beautiful. Extremely creative and well written. Great job!
I could just see a beluga enigmorph retrieving someone’s phone or something and the person befriending the enigmorph after that.
Love the penguin skull necklace the leopard seal enigmorph has, she may be the unholy mix of person and seal but by god is she gonna look good while doing it!
The gulper eel's design is honestly amazing. The arms and chest being the mouth, at least visually, is so fascinating. The human part seems like the lure, and the glowing stomach is really spooky alongside how massive it likely is.
Every time you release a new video I am filled with ecstatic childlike excitement!!!
Jack, I am going to work tirelessly to steal your style so I can use it for nefarious purposes!
Incredible designs all around and the story is great, love the mermay content.
gotta love this narration, perfect horror and suspense
So cool. I do wish the gyarrado became water steel like if through all the love and kindness it almost became reformed
Really think you outdid yourself with the gulper eel.
But imo, the gyarados...looks a little too much like a Yautja (specifically the mouth region). It has a complicated face that's usually reserved for legendaries.
With green being my favourite colour I can't express how elated this design makes me!💚
That's an awesome video, stunning art and even a great take on Gyarados, might be my fav mazah mon now
I'd absolutely have a Mazian Magikarp/Gyarados on my team! The design is so different and epic.
The illustration for "Goose barnacle" is so sick, dude
I'm imagining the boss of the evil team with a mazian gyarados as their ace to show that they do love their Pokémon
I love the way you're tying Mermay and Apoctober together, I know it started with last years Apoctober but the continuation is amazing. And I love the new magikarp and gyaradose variant. Those silhouettes make me think mantyke/mantine are next? Or maybe you'll throw some new pokemon at us. Either way, can't wait for next week's Adventures of Argyle Finch with pokemon bonus.
That comment about caring for magikarp so it can evolve really reminded me of how Team Rocket forced the magikarp to evolve in Gold/Silver. I can imagine a Mazian evil team trying to do the same in order to exploit them for money to help fund their evil schemes.
I love the addition of the friendship evolution of magikarp. Really sells the story
I've been looking forwards to this all week😁
your mermays always gives me creeps, the creature always looks in pain
i LOVE the gulper eel design. that is beautiful
I love Argyle’s stories!!
Awesome concept for Gyarados too!
Dude made gyarados into a support pokemon, if it learns power gem it would probably opt for being a special attacker since special attacks are often more reliable and its physical attack isnt really better by enough. Gyarados already gets flamethrower, thunderbolt, and ice beam so amazing coverage. It also gets thunder wave and toxic, plus a few other support moves but the 4x grass weakness is painful, but regular gyarados had one too so its fair. The real place it shines is that both its abilities are amazing depending on what you wanna do with it, regular gyarados also has great abilities. I would say they are on equal footing, both of them would be very hit or miss depending on team matchups but grass is a better type to be 4x weak to than electric. Well and being that the type has change do much it would be silly if it didn't learn new moves so the main thing it would need to be viable would be a health recovery move other than rest and iron defense and body press together would give it a way to use its defense stat offensively.
Competitive potential aside I like the design a lot, if it were not for nostalgia I would prefer this one for sure. I also like the idea that both the Mazian form and Kanto form may coexist to some degree, that would make it just that much more interesting I think.
Not sure if I said this prior but I love how not all the enigmorphs are just horrible monsters. But instead living beings (albeit twisted one's by some ancient horror). It's good story telling
that gulper eel is my favorite of all your mermaids to date!
I love Mazian Magikarp, it looks like a grumpy little baby
I hope you can take satisfaction in knowing these videos leave me talking like a haunted old sea captain for the rest of the day, lol.
So you’re telling me that a shrimp fried this rice?
Maybe it’s the colour scheme but I find it easier to see the connection between Mazah Gyarados and Magikarp than their Kanto counterparts.
The sealife in Mazah is so varied!!!
I absolutely love the concept behind Magikarp and Gyarados, totally! I do have an opinion on the Gyarados design look however, yet I'm sort of worried of speaking my thoughts allowed. So if you continue reading, please don't criticize. I'd like to hear your personal thoughts though!
With that said, I feel the Mazian Gyarados design is a little much. Like too much detail is standing out compared to normal gyarados. Regional Forms change, yes, but you could still see the similarities compared to the old design. The jade features, the horn and even the whiskers for this design seem a bit much.
Would I think this would be a great Regional Evolution, similar to Clodsire? Yes! Do I think it's a good base for a Regional Form of Gyarados. Not exactly. On the other note though, if Mazian Magikarp had it's own unique way of evolving, lets say compared to a normal Magikarp this one needs an item, or for a real challenge it evolves in the 60's, I'd be down for it.
That's my personal thoughts! Love the design, love the concept and story and idea! But it being a Gyarados doesn't seem to fit.
Love the shiny colors especially for this one
Magikarp is also my favourite Pokémon, and I think your design is really cool... Honestly, too cool. The lockjaw on the original makes it more goofy, and that goofiness helps make an otherwise imposing monster endearing. Something I can imagine being friends with. By removing the lockjaw and streamlining the design, you've created a really badass monster, one I'd definitely fear, but one I can't imagine becoming friends with. That friendship look is a core principle Ken Sugiomori uses when designing Pokémon. Love your work though and more often than not I think your designs are amazing, keep up the great work ❤️
I love how the Leopard Seal was so kind tho
It reminds me of the story of the dirty river spirit in Spirited Away
That gulper is my favorite!! So good and scary
favorite thing about these videos: awesome new merlore, sprinkle of mazah
least favorite thing? reminder of how fast the weeks are going...
The gulpee eel design is beyond words.. not entirely into the colors but damn I like the shape so much! Nice episode
These are great as always. I have an idea that you should give Megas to the starters, to replace the scrapped Gmax forms you made, and also make a new Mega for every type that has a gym in Mazah so that each gym has a Mega, automatically the ace, that is a Pokemon completely new to Mazah. You of course don't have to but it's just an idea. But oh damn that Gyarados is on my team.
You should make a Mega Mazah Gyarados. It would be cool to parallel the actual games even more especially because you have Megan’s in the Mazah Region.
I would make Mazian Gyarados a steel type and make the normal ability change from Magikarp Solid Rock to Filter (same ability effect though rock types tend to have Solid Rock while steel types have filter, plus it seems that the change is some kind of purification) and the hidden ability would be Power of Alchemy to Good as Gold. I think the "lead into gold" alchemy motif fits the Pokémon very well.
my favorite challange is kaijune its so cool but i have a theory that since the ending sed that the construction of the meca kaiju would last years and some years past so thats what i think
What do you use to ink and color in ur drawings
I of hope both these mazah forms get added into the game
I like to imagine Mazian Gyarados is super fierce, only except to their trainer, to which they're comparable to a lapdog
I woulda made the metal gyrados water/steel to reflect the gold taking over the rock
13:18 so youre telling me a shrimp fried this rice?
Slaaayy!!! I love all of it, as always. But the concept behind Mazian magikarp & gyarados is so dang good!
I'm not entirely sold on Gyarados just simply because it looks too much on the creepy side and too scary that it doesn't look like it could be your friend
It'd be hilarious of the Mazian Magicarp could only learn splash PLUS ATK/SP ATK increasing status moves as a gag about being stronger than the Kantonian form. It also gives more options after the evolution for some powerful strikes.
I think it'll be cool if you battled someone with the Magicarp and the trainer tells you before hand that he likes his Magicarp the way it is, it it wants to evolve it will when it needs or want. So after beating him the Magicarp evolves to so it can battle better for his trainer
Gyarados looks amazing however i think its typing should be water/steel to show its evolution from a frail fish to a more sturdy and formidable golden gyarados.
Also on a side note, him being water/rock sucks as a defensive typing lol but I do primarily think steel as opposed to rock makes more sense thematically. Just my opinion. Keep up the fantastic work .
love the gulper eel!
Mazian gyarados looks real savage, I love it definitely my favorite
really loved the Day 11
Gulper Eel Is prob The scariest Thing Jack has ever drawn. Good work! Subnautica Is Looking for you
I knew it! Crabs have always been shifty.... :D
holy crap man that angler one is terrifying LMAO
Mermay's not really my thing, but I absolutely adore the concept behind Mazian Magikarp and Gyarados. I feel like Pokémon doesn't do a great job of mechanically representing how humans and Pokémon are supposed to be stronger together, bar a few lore implications and some more blatant mechanics. I like opportunities to see that relationship actively affect the world around them, and evolving via friendship is the best way to represent that for Magikarp... even if it means people will probably just run back and forth as soon as they catch one until they unlock one of the best Pokémon in the game.
That sad shark in the beginning looks like a Ruben.
Hear me out on this. I am not trying to tell you how to make your pokemon. But water/steel for Mazian Gyarados would have referenced Magikarp's refinement of skills better than rock/water I think. Also, there is only one water/steel type pokemon being Empoleon. Meanwhile, we already have 11 pokemon who are water/rock type, 12 if you count Gigantimax Drednaw. So that type combination is a little oversaturated, while water/steel has only been on one pokemon since gen 4.
That Gyarados is something out of a horror story 😨
The spider crab’s legs don’t look long enough.
I think y'all should have a Variant Chinchou.
Dark/Electric that's ACTUALLY a creepy angler fish...
really loving mazian caterpie
I dont know how I watch these (since I really hate fish and they creep me out) but I do. Because the art is absolutely beautiful.
