I have this idea of pokemon ancestral awakening, where once every battle, one rare pokemon on more common ones, may attain an extra type, and transform to reflect their ancestral roots. So maybe Chixulob's awokened form consists on it flying to the sky and projecting into the meteor in full size as it looked moments before crashing onto earth, but like, suspended in place, it's not actually capable of destroying earth.

One of the staples of the mainstream games is an "evil team". I wonder what themes an evil team in this region would revolve around. You seem to have tradition as a theme in this region, and some of the dynamics between older and younger generations. I was thinking that intertwined with this is the conflict between the quest for freedom and the desire for conquest and riches. The evil team could be driven by conquest, seeking the First Prey to exploit grievances, or the First Predator to dominate.
Also, I was thinking of a third legendary Pokemon based on a "First Scavenger", which would further explain why the people of the region's history stopped fighting: the destruction caused by their war was feeding this First Scavenger.

Something about the eyes doesn't feel quite right on Terreon. I'm not sure exactly why but maybe it's the markings? Eeveelutions tend towards simplicity and share pretty similar faces. I think by adding the mask shape it makes Terreon feel a bit too different. I also wonder if maybe Gusteon should have less colours? Most eeveelutions have only 2-3 colours for their markings so it might feel more in keeping with that to stick with the light-blue and white colours and retain that up through the ears. And then keep the yellow as a highlight like they did with the blue on Sylveon.
Also, some possible suggestions on the poses which might sell the themes better. Gusteon might work really well in a sort of leaping/flying pose like it's being magically propelled through the air. And Terreon leaning forward, with it's fore-legs and face close to the ground with it's bum in the air like a dog excitedly waiting for you to throw a ball, might sell the ground idea and make it feel excitable and energetic. And both would be very cute.

    • @yam3946
      @yam3946 2 роки тому +65

The eyes on Terreon "feel wrong" because of the shape imo. All the eeveelutions have the different eye shapes but they all have 1 aspect in common: they slope inward (the outer eye is higher up than the inner eye). This is present in Terreon but not as exaggerated as in other eeveelutions (barring maybe Sylveon). I say either slope the eye like Espeon or go full mudpuppy and have the cute, circle eyes of most amphibians :)

      @MightyAverage 2 роки тому +41

@@yam3946 I noticed that too, but my biggest problem with the eyes is the color. The amber color they went with really makes it feel way more bug type than it needed to feel, especially in combination with the ear protrusions that look like antennae and the floof-ness of the silhouette

    • @DualEyedMonty

Terreon is perfect. In my mind it's wearing goggles. So it's eyes are just those two black dots. You're right about Gusteon. Yellow should be ditched.

    • @Kokonavirus
      @Kokonavirus 2 роки тому +14

Another thing that makes it feel weird is probably the iris. all eeveelutions have darker eye color, which makes the white dot more obvious, that in turn contributes to the cutesiness somehow? although sylveon's eye color is brighter, it's more like a cool and calm blue rather than a menacing orange? Another thing I'd like to point out is eye detail. Both eeveelution's eye seems a tad bit too detailed to be an eeveelution (the line that separates the iris and the sclera in gusteon's eyes).
That aside, I feel like the details on the eeveelutions feel a bit too much and cluttered. Usually eeveelutions feel simple and frank. Terreon's rock hip pattern feels off to me, and putting literal mud on them feels a bit too much. Glaceon don't have literal ice, after all (although leafeon still have literal leaves growing on them). On the other hand, Gusteon's cloud mane pattern also feels sophisticated if compared to Flareon or Jolteon's mane. Another thing I noticed is Gusteon's wing-ear's feathers are not sharp enough to belong in an eeveelution's ears. For these, you can probably use Espeon ears' lower part (still don't know what that is), or Leafeon's leafy ear as reference.

  • @thinkingwithoutthebox7817
    @thinkingwithoutthebox7817 2 роки тому +875

Oh and a little suggestion for Terreon, the light orange eyes and the almost “antenna” like structures on the top of its head give it a bug type vibe. I think that one set of ears is enough (but I totally get wanting to keep the inspiration from the salamander in there). For the eyes I think that a deep brown like the muddy fur around its neck and tail would be good, or you could go with a green, maybe a yellowish green. And definitely just make the pupils a bit darker so that the eye doesn’t look so “bug-like”

    • @loregoblin3854
      @loregoblin3854 2 роки тому +11

interestingly, I wasn't having a problem with Terreon at all... I think for something to truly read as bug type, it'd have to look a lot more intentionally bug like than that, and the embellishments were helping it feel like it wasn't too literal a translation of the concept, by my sensibilities. though I agree that the eyes look weird to me... weirder on Gusteon though, which I think is more to do with the color choices. I think eyes that look like sylveon's or leafeon's work better when the hierarchy of colors looks more natural... like how brown and blue are fairly normal eye colors, and the faces of both those pokemon are more white or cream colored, so there aren't really two strong, saturated, competing colors right next to each other. when the colors are more bold on the body, like with the early eeveelutions, then the eyes are just dark, and the contrast works a lot better.
tbh, I think Gusteon's design is truly giving me the most trouble. I don't like the shape of the ears, especially with the way they bend in the middle. I think I was imagining something more akin to dragonair's ear tufts, which stay straight, and end up looking thin, light, and elegant as a result. if a shape akin to that were simply elongated to better fit the dimensions of a fox-like eeveelution ear, I think that'd be the most suitable... especially if it could avoid the sort of chunky, thick feeling of the current ear design. I'm also not a fan of the corkscrew tail at all... I simply preferred the tail in it's original cloud shaped form, where it looked more wispy, like a cotton mist. I think something that goes more with the type of shapes that'd be used in the Jolteon/Flareon/Vaporeon era would be best, because overall, the shapes in Gusteon's current design make it look more like a neopet. not bad... just not as much like a pokemon.

I also got a bug vibe from terreon, and I absolutely attribute it to the monochromatic eyes. I feel like having the sclera be white would take a lot of the bug feel, since it forces the mammalian eye design a bit more.

I agree with a lot of this. The extra ears and antennae feel a bit off, maybe changing them into like nubby little rock horns? On a whole, the head feels very visually complicated. I don't think the orange eyes are a particular problem, but I would change the pupil color to not orange (like other eeveelutions). Also, the mask is kinda cool but does make it look buggish. Maybe keeping the brown as a "spot" for one eye would be cute.

I agree, and find this especially with these designs. There's nothing inherently bad or wrong with them, but I don't like them as they don't sit well with me. I felt like they could have done a little more in the originality department rather than just adding some clouds for "gusteon" and slapping some mud on terreon (which is a better name than the former eeveelution.)
I was hoping for them to also do more difficult types like bug, dragon, and poison where most mons of those types aren't cute obviously. I felt like a flying eeveelution could have like membranous wings for flight, and possibly a sac for gas to expel air, with numerous fins and tail adornments for steering in the air. Terreon could deal with clay better, possibly being some strange alter to vaporeon, belding in perfectly inside of clay, maybe even having some sand elements or possibly moss/lichen/weeds growing on it too. Then again thinking about it, those might be a little too loud, but could again be simplified.
That's my thoughts, but nobody's gonna read this or like them, I already know.

For the eeveelutions, random thoughts from a non-artist
    - The flying one’s colors might be a bit too complicated? Don’t get me wrong I love doing more than just blue and white, but I think three colors is too different to the rest of the eeveelutions which are very simple. I also actually liked the sleepy dreamy feeling, yeah it’s cliche for cloud-based characters but it gives it a distinct personality. I would maaybe make the blue deeper and more purple? Espeon is more of a pink so you have plenty of space before it overlaps, and yeah avoiding it looking like Glaceon or Vaporeon is a good call. I honestly do love the red eyes (I love red eyes on cutesy designs for some reasons, a cool subversion of typical tropes but also reminds me of white bunnies / hamsters) and the yellow on the blue feels sky-like, but yeahh it just feels a bit too different to the rest of the design.
I love the mud puppy! I think the orange eyes (thought it was wearing goggles at first, but maybe that’s the point?) are good color wise but damn it would be so much cuter if it just had normal eyes. But it does stand out, and hey - creates a sort of motif for the two eevees with them both having abnormal colored eyes that apply to the whole thing. The one change I would suggest is making the ears juuust a bit rounder. Because of the way they droop down, they currently look a lot like Glaceon’s. I get the need to keep them looking fox-like but I would make them rounder at the bottom to differentiate from Glaceon

I love the redraws, they make the designs seem more finished with the moon buns. I adore the ideas and finished work of the eevees but you’re right in the comment that they seem out of place, I’m not sure they look like eevee evolutions enough. Placing them next to our other eevees you can really tell which are fakemons and not just by knowing that before hand. The flying eevee seems like the most capable of convincing others that it is part of the eevee line- it’s soft and rounded with enough attributes that relate to other eevees that it matches and fits pretty well, the only issue with the flying eevee is the yellow, it stands out too much, and the ‘extra’ designs because while the tail and extra fluffs look and work very well the eevee line is very basic in design tropes. The ground* eevee is also very cool and I love the idea but it doesn’t seem to fit in at all- the pallet is amazing but the design itself also have the problem of not being ‘’basic’’ enough, however removing some of the extra features, such as the drips from the ears or rounding out the mane/tail a bit more, and taking a relook at how the design would fit with the other eevees would go a long way in really finalizing the designs.

Saw a video a while back that mentioned that current eeveelutions follow special attackers/ defenders. They also mentioned the possibility of another possible “eevee type” Pokémon that has multiple evolutions and covers all the attack/ defender types like rock, steel, ice, ground. It would be cool to see what your “eevee” would look like. The problem with creating eeveelutions is that there are so many fanfics and renditions out there that it might feel like it’s never done or that it’s doing eevee any justice. Would also like to see some baby forms too. Lapras and tropius come to mind. Great work Claire! Love the collab!

First of all, I do like the mud-puppy idea. I am a fan of the muddy mane/collar and the tail in the concept art looked like a muddy/droopy version of Flareon's which was pretty neat. But overall, I think there are a bit too many normbreaking aspects of the design that makes it look a bit off in comparison to other eeveelutions.
    1. The ears. The ears are probably the most iconic feature, as all the eeveelutions has the same, standing, pointy pair. Having an eeveelutions with floppy ears is a bold move, and might have worked if it was the only normbreaking characteristic of this Pokémon.
    2. The eyes. They are very Sylveon-like, which is the only eeveelution that doesn't have the almond shape slanted inward-look. But Sylveon gets away with it because its other aspects are not too far off, allthough (with Sylveon being the most normbreaking in the group) it should probably be avoided as a reference when designing new eeveelutions.
    3. The fangs. Again, this is an aspect that no other eeveelutions have. I understand that they're supposed to point towards sabertoothed predators, but as they're only tiny, the reference is a bit lost to me. And I don't know, but with Eevee being a more fox-like/canine Pokémon, perhaps sabertooth tiger/feline characteristics should be avoided to keep the theme more clean (though, Espeon does pull them off quite well, but is on thin ice in my opinion).
    4. The mask. Another feature that no other eeveelution has. Had this been the only normbreaking aspect, I think I might have liked it. It's a bit of a toss up, but I think it could be done if the the rest of the desing is a bit more true to the standard look.

    • @AngryKettle
      @AngryKettle 2 роки тому +4

      Agree on all points.
The drooping ears are fine for me, but I don't know what all the extra bits are supposed to be. That would be fine in other Pokemon, but eeveelutions should be more simple.
Sylveon's eyes are a fairy feature, and should not be standard. Certain types might have special eyes (bug, dragon, maybe even crystal-like eyes for rock) but not ground.
The mask, too. I think it's cute, but it doesn't add much of "ground" motifs. They make it look like a dark type, like the Nickit and Sandile lines (Sandile is ground, but the mask represents dark better)
And the fangs! The issue I have with the fangs is that there is an obvious ground motif that should have replaced them... claws! Big claws that imply this boy is a good digger!
      My take:
Muddy with droopy ears are great! Big hands with claws. Everything else is just a big, brown Eevee.

I love both of the eeveelutions. Terreon takes on a bit more "nerdy" appearance with your render, Jack, but I think it doesn't detract from the design at all. The goggle-like eyes give this geeky character that really evokes the feeling of a curious little eeveelution that digs around for hidden things. It would be very fitting for an archaeologist character to use a terreon!

I think Gusteon is perfect, I especially love the wind-coil tail to evoke that windy feel.
In my opinion Terreon could do with feeling a bit 'heavier' if that makes sense? It might stray from the eeveelution design conventions a bit, but I think a chubbier body and/or shorter legs- literally being closer to the ground- along with ears that don't flop around so much as they hang like heavy pendulums, would make the design really shine. I also don't actually get a lot of an 'axolotl' feel from Terreon unfortunately... I wonder if trying to incorporate the fluffy red gills of the real-life mudpuppy into the 'eevee collar' might work for that purpose?

im so obsessed with clair's original designs for gusteon and terreon, they're so cute and have a dreamy feeling to them! and they translated really well into a more traditional pokemon style
i especially love the use of unusal ear shapes, the droopy pulled down ears to make terreon look muddy, and the rounded tufts of fur around gusteon's design evoke feathers without just being the awkward "a dog with angel wings" design a lot of fans tend to go for when making a flying type eevee. infact, the ears kind of remind me of the final boss of the new kirby game (which i mean in a very positive way, it's a super cool idea)
also the new chixulob looks way more dynamic and impactful, could def see this being a psudo-legend or mythical

  • @reelsonder

Great work! I love keeping up with this series.
As a character/monster designer, I'd like to give a few notes.
One thing that notice about the new eeveelutions that these designs lack is that every design in the line gets its appeal from being very understated in portraying its type. Putting these new designs and the official ones next to each other, the flying and ground look a bit too extravagant by comparison. A lot of them get away with simply giving a common color associated with the type, giving the evolution its own pattern motif, and tweaking the body type slightly to convey what it specializes in (being more bulky or delicate).
It's possible you can cut a lot of details on these designs and try and find one thing that says its typing (umbreon's rings, sylveon's ribbons, vaporeon's fins) because having clouds and wings might be a bit redundant and muddy up the design. This might also be a personal bias, but I feel as though Terreon shouldn't drip. As an eeveelution's main appeal is that you can keep it around the house even after it evolves, I feel awful simply leaving this one eeveelution outside so it doesn't ruin my new rug.
The simplification does for the color palette too. Terreon is fine but giving Gusteon 5 colors in its palette, 4 of which being completely different hues. The only thing close to this in reality is Sylveon, which after its main colors being white, pink and light blue, it has a sort of purple to bridge the gap between the pink and blue. I personally suggest a giving two colors to use for most of the design, then a secondary color for the eyes and inside of ears. I'm personally leaning towards making a blend of light greenish blue for the clouds/wings and a darker green for the body color. You see a lot of green and wind to indicate wind as an element in video games and media.
Lastly, going off the rails for a last bit, giving Terreon patterns that look like its a pot/vase is on the table. Take it or leave it, I just came up with that and thought it would be a good idea on the subject of more Umbreon-esque design schemes.
If you read through all of this, thank you so much! Your acceptance of feedback and revisions at a steady pace is why I love this channel so much.

Love all of these, and its always cool seeing the visible difference in style and skill between your og pokemon and their redesigns.
But i do have a few notes about some of the redesigns, mainly Laguna
I adore Lagunas redesign, it looks fabulous, only, it looks pretty unevolved. I would either make one part of its body more pronounced to make it look more mature, or give it a new evolution.
Chixulob is fabulous, and the rendering was incredible. My only nitpick is that its stone aspects seem a little to detailed, especially its lower jaw. If the eye is gonna stay that huge, i would personally simplify some of the rock patterns.
Love the Eveelutions, although i preferred Claire’s take on Terreon eyes, the final design looks kinda bug-eyed
Gusteon feels exactly like a moden eveelution, and probably the closest art I’ve seen as to what a flying-eveelution would actually look like.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to make the shiny colored like a Splatoon Inkling. Honestly Terreon's design is great though the eyes remind you of a bug at first glance and don't match other eeveelutions at all in my opinion. The shiny also looks a tad scary especially due to these eyes at least at first glance (for me at least). The colours to my mind scream goblin/orc or something idk why but i find it creepy sorta.
Though it might just be my bug phobia/fear being triggered by the eyes from first impressions as fantasy bugs are even more terrifying than enlarged bugs in my head.

  • @Silversky1113
    @Silversky1113 2 роки тому +1

The eeveelutions i feel would definitely benefit from a redraw. For gusteon, one of my main critiques is that there are already two blueish eveelutions, and i feel would work better in greenish tones, maybe with hints of salmon or something to make it more unique.
Terreon in general could benefit from a bit of a rework. It being a ground type, perhaps it could have more mole-like features like smaller or covered squinted eyes, and bigger claws. If going with the mud motif, maybe having hardened mud or dried mud as a fur pattern or part of its features could be cool. The little antenna at the top could maybe be moved to its cheeks or near its nose like a mole as feelers when digging or something and since there is an emphasis on its sense of smell. In general it feels a bit more like a bug or fighting type. I feel like its tail also kinda lacks a bit since all eeveelutions have long tails as part of its theme. Maybe if the long ears or tail were fashioned as makeshift shovels, it could so work to give it that ground type feel.

But, I'm not so sure about terraeon. The ears definitely need to be reshaped and made more distinctive because they look very similar to glacion. And the tail needs to be longer as well, eevees always have a distinct and iconically long tail and I think the little puff tail makes It feel more like a terrier than a fox. Finally they EYES, orange is *not* the way to go. That combined with the excess antante-like ears in its head makes it feel more Bug-type than ground. Perhaps a rework a little closer to Clair's original design, but less..... Wet. Perhaps "drying" the original out could give it a more interesting look. Like a red clay or adobe look to make it better suit the region. Plus a cute call back to eevee's to dust and sand attacks in anime. And I don’t think it doesn’t show much personality than the Gusteon design

The stats are off for the eeveelutions all of the evolutions have 60,65,65,95,110,130 in some order but I see you at least left it as a base 525 total. I would suggest if you're going to break the rule at least make Gusteon and Terreon have the same numbers on the stats that add to 525.

For a flying eeve i would make a flying squirrel esque bodyshape. For a ground eeve i would go for sand ( sand bobcat or fenex fox) or bones ( skull motiff)

    another great new video!
also, on the subject of the possible names for the games of the mazah region:
lets look at all previous main series pokemon titles:
    red
    blue
    green
    yellow
    gold
    silver
    crystal
    ruby
    sapphire
    emerald
    fire red
    leaf green
    diamond
    pearl
    platinum
    heart gold
    soul silver
    black
    white
    black 2
    white 2
    x
    y
    omega ruby
    alpha sapphire
    sun
    moon
    ultra sun
    ultra moon
    lets go pikachu
    lets go eevee
    sword
    shield
    brilliant diamond
    shining pearl
    legends arceus
    scarlet
    violet
we can clearly see that every pokemon game falls into one of three categories: it is named after a simple concept, like a color, a letter, or an object, it is one of those things but with an adjective in front (exclusively remakes), or it is named after one of the key pokemon in that game.
the issue is that, in addition to being insanely unmarketable, "prey and predator" and "tradition and progress" are not simple enough concepts to be game titles. the closest comparison would be if pokemon black and pokemon white were instead called pokemon truth and pokemon ideals (switched obviously). its simply too heavy of an idea.
SO, that leads us, of course, to the big question: what to call the games?
a lot of colors are already taken: red, yellow, green, blue, black, white, scarlet, and violet, as well as gold, silver, ruby, sapphire, and emerald, all of which double as precious stones/metals. sun and moon are basically orange and purple, and dont match the mazah region, so we dont want those, and the color space is already pretty crowded (red, ruby, fire red, y, shield, and scarlet are ALL red), so maybe we can take a look at stones again?
a quick google search brings up the following paragraph: This part of the world is famed as the source for an astonishing variety of rare and enchanting precious stones: agate and turquoise; jasper and obsidian; amber from the Chiapas caves and the legendary Mexican fire opal. Many of these stones are unusual and some unique to deposits in the region.
an unofficial rule for every pokemon game is that the name has to have something to do with the box legendaries, something they have done since gen 3. this line of reasoning has led us into a rather fortunate coincidence: the legendary pokemon of the mazah region went on a rampage thousands of years ago as a result of the jewelry that the mazah people placed on them.
hylarmos has blue earrings, while maripome has orange. jasper, amber, and fire opal are all orange, while turqoise is blue, and agate can be many different colors. its important that the names of the games be recongnizable; everyone knows what the moon is, everyone knows what fire is, everyone knows what the color green is.
and so, here are the names ive come up with:
Pokémon Amber, featuring Maripome, and Pokémon Turqoise, featuring Hylarmos.
these seem to be the most recognizable of all the stones listed, and they both double as colors, which the previous 'stone names' have all done.
i am submitting these as the names of the games (potentially (could be (in my opinion (if everyone else is cool with it))))

I got to say: Scarlet and Violet are in development to this moment, and the regions from the said pervious titles are Kanto,Johto,Hoenn,Sinnoh (Hisui),Unova,Kalos,Alola and Galar.
DLC regions: Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra.
Not to mentioned the other regions from sub titles who are not mainlines, those regions listed are based on Japan,USA,France and UK.
DLC regions based on: (Isle of Man and Scotland) and the said upcoming region of Scarlet and Violet is unnamed, till GF announce the official region's name. Mazah's villainous team not revealed yet, "if" Jack, announce dat as well. By the way, I liked dat kind of Pokémon title, could be official anyone of GF will take in consideration after Gen 9's end, and the future Gen to be next. (Took me long to read dat wall of text, almost got me lose interest of reading, no offense it takes long..)

Gusteon is one of the coolest eevelutions I've seen, period! I think the tail is one of it's strongest elements so I do hope of you redesign them, you try to keep it intact! :) Terreon does stray a bit from the original design, but I'm sure a better redesign lies somewhere in between the two concepts

Don’t be so hard on yourself. I guess only thing I’d say is the eyes for eeveelution don’t capture the eyes of the others. Shape wise but maybe the Terreon needs a longer tail like idk maybe a weapon on the end or something that digs into the ground and then you could remove the mask or something ?

YOO these are all stellar! I could see Chixulob's collecting gimmick work kinda like the percent forms of Zygarde. Where it has smaller "prevo-esque" forms that build up to the full Mon.
And Terreon is just wonderful. Love the mud puns and prehistoric vibes incorporated into the design. Terreon probs has to be one of my favorite fan made eeveelutions I seen. Great work you two!

I don’t really care for the Eveeves unfortunately they seem overdesigned like they have too many concepts going on. I really liked the idea of having a wild prehistoric eveelution with a Jolteon vibe. And I think the flying one doesn’t need wing ears, gust tail, AND a cloud scruff. I think it would be much more effective with 1 or 2 incorporated. To me the Eveeve designs are efficient in their simplicity and don’t need to tack on multiple concepts in one design.

I love watching your videos because it's incredibly interesting to see and hear you talk about your design processes and reasonings, and it's clear how much love and effort you put in. Revisiting old designs and seeing what could be updated is a great mindset, and your improvements in both design and design philosophies over time can clearly be seen and it's great seeing you grow.
    Keep up the amazing work!

In regards to the eeveelutions, when looking at past eeveelutions I think it is important to note how they evolve. Eevee's whole gimmick is being able to evolve into multiple different types, but also they evolve in different ways.
In gen 1, all of the eeveelutions evolve using a stone. By that point in the game, I'm sure most evolutions that the player would've been exposed to were level-up evolutions. So using eevee to introduce stone evolutions opened up the possibility in the player's mind of using stones on other pokemon to see if they would evolve. In gen 2, friendship and the day-night mechanics were introduced as well as the dark type. So the eeveelutions of that gen had their evolution be tied to these new features. One thing to point out is that even thought he steel type had also been introduced, we did not get a steel type eeveelution this generation. So, just because a new type was introduced doesn't mean that it would get an eeveelution to go with it, though steel is the outlier in this case.
Gen 4 introduced many evolutions for older pokemon with a wide range of methods for evolving them. Both of the eeveelutions for this gen evolve in the same way: Location. They didn't necessarily had a type relationship like the eeveelutions in gen 2 did, but I think when trying to think of what typing to choose for the new eeveelutions the game designers looked at the game world and map and made the decision based off of what they could do with their new location based evolution mechanic.
Gen 6 only introduced one new eeveelution that had the new typing of Fairy. I remember this feeling odd at the time based off of past eeveelutions, mainly gen 2 as dark was created to help nerf psychic, so the two eeveelutions of that gen had their typings chosen based off of the meta. Since Fairy was introduced to help nerf Dragon and boost Poison and Steel, it would make sense for their to be a duo of eeveelutions that gen. We didn't get one, but what we did get was a new game mechanic. Pokemon Amie. The gen 6 eeveelution was not only used as a sort of mascot for the new type, but also as a mascot for the new mechanic, since it can only evolve after using this new feature.
All of this is a very long way of leading up to the question... What relationship or purpose do these eeveelutions have to each other? The type meta is obvious, ground can't attack flying which is similar to how psychic can't attack dark, but what mechanic of feature are they tied to? Eevee and it's evolutions have been used to market features of the franchise related to the type chart and evolution. How do these eevees evolve? The designs are cute, but there's much more to an eeveelution that just "cute fox-like looking animal thing".
Sorry for the long comment, but I've designed some of my own eeveelutions and I've had to think about and consider this topic before.

If I can suggest something for Gusteon, I’d recommend making it a physical attacker due to the dex entry saying it prefers lunging at prey from high above, not striking from afar.
As for a preferred eeveelution type, I’d like to see a ghost type for the rival to use, not only because that’s her type specialty, but rivals are often used to introduce multiple new mons to the player, not just one which is usually their ace.
