Suzuki 2002 TL1000r! Is this a future classic in the present?

- The 2002 Suzuki TL1000R has aged better than anyone expected. These days it doesn't matter that it never matched its Ducati-beating, race-winning pre-launch hype - what matters is that it's still a seriously good road bike, with a great, punchy engine and (with a bit of sensible modification and set-up) good, stable handling. The TL is strictly old-skool - throttle, clutch and brakes, something to tell you how fast you're going and somewhere to sit. Few TLs end up adorned with loads of accessories. The exception is aftermarket exhausts - some of which are ear-splittingly, car-alarm-bothering loud. The Suzuki TL1000 is a sizzling superbike that features one of the truly great V-twin engines, in some of the most unpredictable handling chassis ever devised. The Suzuki TL1000R has an improved rear shock, which doesn't misbehave so much as the TL1000S model's, but both motorcycles get so light at the front end, so very easily with all that V-twin grunt on tap. The Suzuki TL1000R has a truly awesome engine, producing a claimed 135bhp and though it revs another 1000rpm higher than the TL1000S, the Suzuki TL1000R still feels like it makes as much poke as a Ducati 916 can manage, by about 6000 revs. Sheer, liquid, adrenaline-pumping lunge. The V-Twin motor was also updated for the TLR, getting a revised ram-air-box, Mikuni electronic dual-injector throttle bodies, upgraded cams, forged pistons, beefier connecting rods, improved ignition timing, and a 1,000 rpm higher redline. The changes to the liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 996cc, 8V, DOHC, 90-degree V-Twin ultimately afforded the TLR a cool 135hp at 9,500 rpm and 78 ft-lbs of torque at 7,500 rpm. And despite the bump in performance, the V-Twin retained its reputation for bullet-proof reliability. The Gixxer-derived chassis was paired with a set of 43mm inverted forks and a Progressive link shock, both adjustable for spring preload, rebound, and compression damping. Slowing the twin-cylinder superbike was a pair of 320mm front discs bit by six-piston calipers and a single 220mm disc with a dual-piston caliper in the rear - all provided by Tokico. This bike has the aftermarket Yoshimura exhaust for that added lovely VTWIN sound.
Note This bike is "R" titled. It was due to fairing damage. At the time the cost for just one side of the bike with an OEM fairing was $600, unpainted and no decals. The fairings on this bike are aftermarket. They are thick like and OEM plastic and beautiful. The bike is extremely well maintained and kept clean by the previous owner. This example is excellent to say the very least.
This bike like all our bikes will be fully serviced, inspected and detailed at the time you take delivery. See this and other great deals at www.cyclehunters.com

I just got a 2000 TLR I’m super grateful.
I fell in love with the TL in 98 . I finally found one this year and bought it 1999 TLR yellow in color its a cream puff . Never planning on letting it go EVER !!! I absolutely love it
My uncle gave me one when I was in college. I’ll frame and hang it on my wall before I’d sell it.
I bought a clean 2003 a few years ago. Never letting it go. It was my dream bike as a kid and I was lucky to find a nice example. I love it.
Like anything else, the longer it goes the more rare they become. Hang on to it for sure. That Era is very special because it represents the transitory period where the manufacturers were all finding their way to the 1000s.
@@CycleHunters The 90s and early 2000s are definitely my favorite when it comes to motorcycles. I plan to keep it for the rest of my life. Just the sound alone makes me smile.
I love TL’s.. I had a ‘98 TLR 20 years ago… I now have a totally standard white/blue ‘99 TLR. The only mod is twin Yoshi’s. I have the original silencers bubble wrapped and stored.
The sound it makes raises the hairs on the arms and smiles. I also had a Aprilia RSV Factory with carbon Akrapovic exhausts, and I will say this…the TLR sounds ‘significantly’ better! 😎🤙🏽
I have 5 other 1990’s bikes, but the TLR is one of my faves
Gotta love that era of bikes for sure. Some special machines.
i own a 1998 TL1000R it a beast in pulling
I've just bought a TL1000s for cheap it's in a bad state ATM but with some TLC I'll have her to her former glory 😉 lovely bike to ride as is but can only get better ❤v❤ the noise is fantastic
This bike will forever live in infamy in my mind. My father called it a "arse and ears bike" (derogatary term for all superbikes I assume) as all you could see of the rider was his arse and ears as they were the highest points of the bike. It was also considered quite the widowmaker, as back wheel could "lock up" due to compression when coming hard into a curve and letting go of the throttle, causing the rear wheel to slip and send both rider and bike on an adventure into the nearby surroundings. Regardless of this is true or not, great looking bike and awesome sound.
Gotta thank the Italians for getting there hands on it for the “Bimota SB8R”, now that’s the bike that actually won
Thanks Phil and Josh for playing matchmaker with this beautiful lady in yellow! Took it for a spin as soon as I got it back home to NC. NEVER going to sell this one! -Josh in NC
That's what I'm frickin' talking about. So awesome Josh. She's for sure a beauty.
i have a 2002 honda vtr, incredibly similar bike
It’s a gorgeous bike. Looks new!
Beautiful machine ❤
Absolutely!!!
I still own the S model that I bought new. Lovely bike but maybe time to find a new home for it
I just bought a Blue/White 2000 TL1000R. This was my high school poster bike. I also have a 05' GSX-R1000. Now I struggle in the morning when I have to choose which bike to go ride to work.
Good problem to have.
I just bought the 02 last Friday have it in the shop for clutch fix should be able to ride next week!!
How much did you pay if you don't mind? There's one in my area. They guy hasn't even listed the asking price. Guessing he wants a lot.
