- Video 'talk-around' my Unique Suzuki TL1000s including some engine 'runtime footage' ... filmed on Akaso V50X Camera 1080p at 60fps.
So ... as you will see, my Suzuki TL is 'not quite' a standard bike & has been enhanced with a few aftermarket parts & some polishing to various components ...
The really great thing I like about my TLS is that I never wanted an O.E.M. version in it’s original specification, so when I saw this old bike for sale after 'lockdown' in 2020 I took a chance and just went ahead & bought her ...
Some of what you see about her had already been done by her former owners, and for my part I just kept adding little pieces here & there when I find them to enhance her looks ... 🤣
I also like to make the odd item and add pieces that make her aesthetically that bit ‘different’ but it's mostly down to me polishing parts around the frame, engine and chassis.
(*Don’t follow my lead with 'the alloy polishing' on your own motorcycle unless you are quite sure about doing this) ... When you start polishing the parts it removes the surface and finish of the original motorcycle & there is no going back - ( irreversible). And - it certainly won’t add any extra value to the bike ...
For those who are interested, here’s a short list of some of the parts that feature on my motorcycle.
Ps - this is as always work in progress - so some parts do get upgraded when I happen to find them (typically, used items offered on the second hand marketplaces or items that I make and /or modify) ...
Listed below:
1. Polished alloy ‘Harris’ fairing bracket with Matris steering damper assembly and mount fitted.
2. Akaso V50X action camera / mounting point with switched powered supply for live footage or dash cam facility. ... Automatic Dash camera driving mode - powered automatically by switched 12v power supply.
3. Custom ball mount fitted to headstock with ‘Garmin’ Nuvi navigation unit automatically powered by switched 12v power supply.
4. Healtech ‘GIPRO’ gear position indicator with built in ATRE.
5. Healtech Speedo Healer.
6. K&N high performance air filter unit.
7. R & G Frame mounted crash sliders.
8. R & G front fork frame sliders.
9. Stainless braided brake hoses to front and rear brake calipers.
10. Gilles rearsets & *recently acquired rear axle adjusters.
11. Maxton rear suspension modification replacing Suzuki rotary damper assembly.
12. Shark - 2” wide bore full stainless exhaust system with high level performance end cans.
13. Tail tidy unit / colour matched undertray.
14. Siberdyne billet clutch window.
15. Stainless steel meshed side vents, & air intakes.
16. Handmade stainless meshed oil cooler guard.
17. 'OZ' Evo RSVR wheels.
18. *Now fitted new for 2024 - Frank Graffy billet clutch pressure plate.
19. Modified Gilles rear axle adjusters (from GSXR1000 K6) - shortened to fit TLS swingarm.
20. Custom red/black two tone seat pad.
21 . Custom clutch billet filler plug cap, with stainless braided tether and R pin.

Fond memories came back to me watching your fantastic TL 1000 Suzuki, I remember when I test rode one back in early days, I found a good bit of road gave her a fair bit of throttle and up came the front wheel and away we go ,big smile on me dial, when all of a sudden the head lining blew out of me helmet and dropped down over my eyes and all i can see is the road under the TL , any way long story short I ended up buying a new helmet, and a gsx1400., have a great time riding cheers mate andy from Australia

Yes, the numbers of these motorcycles must be diminishing, little by little now ... OEM originals will probably be the bikes that hold value in the future ... Nice to know your father was an owner ... the bikes definitely have character 👍

Very nice. You may have seen my TLS on some groups as I’m rebuilding/restoring it. The Bitubo goes on this week & Coolant Temp mod as per OEM Suzuki 98+ this week then fix & paint fairings.

I had a TL1000S. Great engine. I loved it. i bought it brand new.
I sold my first 97s ... always regretted selling the bike ...Years later, had to have another 😁
Great looking bike! I've been so out of touch with bikes since I quit riding in about '95, you could have told me it was a new '24 model and I wouldn't have known.

I remember wanting to buy the TL1000R but when I went down to see them I was told they ain’t coming 😢😢 so I bought a brand new gsx750R … then I go down for its 1st service and there’s the TL1000R sat there in the showroom 😢😢😢 needless to say a few months later I took ‘the hit’ and traded for one … hated it at first but then I learnt how to ride a twin , did a few track days and loved it .. looking back it was the longest I ever kept a bike and wish I still had it in the garage today 😢😢😢my pillion enjoyed it ( I’m six two ) and I found it actually comfortable enough for a couple of European trips .. it was big and lardy but it did everything asked of it , never tried the ‘S’ version but I imagine not much difference in the real world .. great bikes

Nice mods on your TL-S 👌🏼 I have a 1999 TL-R in my small bike collection.. It’s all original, blue & white, with 15k miles. The only mod is the obligatory Yoshi’s.. but I have the standard silencers stored away.
It’s my 2nd favourite bike to ride, after my ZXR

I had a green one, loved it so much, even rode it to Portugal.
Changed to the aprilia Milie R which I still have I believe the Aprilia has a better chassis .
@captbarb6642 ... I changed my first 'Prime Green' 97S and then went on to RSVMille (Many years ago & long since gone 🙂) ...But, I missed my TL ...so, had to have one again ... 👍

I had put ohlins rear suspension on mine and Remus titanium cans very nice .

Looks very tidy. I have recently bought a fairly low mileage MOT failure. Got it through MOT. Started to rectify all the stupid things the previous owner messed up. Got bent radiator fixed, fairing repaired....
Then the engine decided..... "Nah...."
It's dropped the front cylinder. And I've had to put it aside until I have enough time to do a more thorough investigation.
Apart from that..... If I bought it when they first came out, I would have liked it more. The looks are still awesome. But it's the riding position. I am too old and have had too many broken bones for it to be comfortable after 30 miles.

I thought I'd just use them up, ... soft, but very good grip 👌 ... Will probably go back to Pirelli Angels when I've shredded them ... 😁

Hi, thank you for viewing my vid. The exhausts and the 2" headers are made by 'Shark' - Its a complete system ... I've only ever seen one other system like it fitted to a TL (on the forums) ... so I'm guessing now very rare ...
My exhausts are 20+ years old - unfortunately not made now ...

Awesome but of kit. Had one in black when they first came out. My TL got me into V twins. Often think about getting another.
Best time to buy really ... ( if you are in UK ) ... TL prices are quite low in general ... roughly 2k up to 3.5k mark is all they seem to fetch at the moment ... 🙂👍
They are super rare here in Canada. I’m glad I found my TLS last April when I did.

I saw a fairing-less conversion. It looked far better than with that monstrocity up front.
I like to see 'street fighter versions' that are well done, but, I personally wouldn't consider removing the Suzuki TL fairing as I prefer the classic look of what the TLS represents as a late 90's sports bike ... Horses for courses as they say ... 🙂

No ... it's a piece of road grit ... tyres are very soft and bits stick ... I check them before and after each ride as well as cold pressures ... They only have a short lifespan 🙂

Don't think it's restricted, but I've never had it dyno'd ... It was made in Feb 97 ...
It's an old motorcycle now, not that powerful compared to more modern sports bikes, 🙂 but, incredibly fun to ride, and still got enough of a temper to make me respect her 🤣👍
@NJS-TL1000S Only asking as when they were having trouble with the rotary damper suzuki recall them in to cut the power .

Is it true that in stock form that the TL1000S would pull power wheelies at 100MPH in 3rd gear? (ie, no use of the clutch).
@Jonathan-L I've no knowledge of that, personally ...
TL's are more than capable of lifting the front wheel, but I don't do that on mine ... 🤣

The clutch window is made by Siberdyne Motorcycle Parts UK. The footrest rear-sets are made by Gilles Tooling. 🙂👍
