"Hell" for the Djinn is being imprisoned in the fire opal, where he is powerless. Only the waker can banish him there and "any wishes pertaining to (him) are circumscribed by the prophecy." So being wished into an unlocked prison was a wasted wish in his eyes but since Gregory made this wish, it allowed the Djinn to claim his soul and use him as leverage in order to pressure Morana into making wishes. Crucifying him was just his way of mocking their faith, which has no bearing on the laws governing the Djinn as a whole. When she wished for him to be released, he let him down but also let him die.
Yup, basically he would slowly kill everybody around them, and/or everybody in the world until they are the only one left. He can't kill her, and she can't die while under the Djinn's protection. The question becomes though, how long could you hold out?
The protag of the first movie tried that. She refused to make her third wish, so the Djinn captured her sister in a painting and set it on fire while forcing her to watch. He admitted that he couldn't force her to wish and couldn't kill her while she still had wishes left to make, but that doesn't mean he can't make her life living hell. Every person she knew and cared about would be tortured and she would be made to watch it all happen, while knowing she has the power to stop it but at a terrible cost. It doesn't work. He can still make other people wish for things and twist it into something ugly, turning Earth into his personal playground one wish at a time, so long as there are people around to make more wishes. Eventually, you'll crack. Can you really watch everyone you know and love die painful, torturous deaths one by one, without being driven into insanity?
I really like how the Djinn are just forces playing another side of reality that revolves around humanity. As if they’re fated to do evil and the forces of good are to keep them from doing wrong to true innocence

While I cant answer for the lore of the movie, in mythology there is no way to make a wish that ends well for the speaker. Also, a single wish is only one line. That means that anything said after the the first one does not count. In myth, you cant even bind the wishes together, meaning any "and also" does not work. Thus, your wish would only be "I wish for you to stay in other space", and since the planet earth is in space, especially from his perceptive, its already completed. In lore, the point of the wishes is to corrupt and they will always be twisted in the favor of the evil spirit. I dont even think it is supposed to be possible to "win", as if you actually did manage to make a solid wish the spirit would not actually need to complete it. Its rigged ;)
The wording gives the Jinn freedom to mess with areas of space though. It's a freebie apocalypse since he can just annihilate the entire Solar system to make the area around him entirely empty. Now if you really want to mess the Jinn up - you can wish for him to forget everything he has ever known and to keep forgetting anything new he sees. We already know that his brain is dynamic. He can learn new things. So it stands to reason that he could forget things. And complete removal of all memories is pretty much a death of a person.
