    The best films of Tom Cruise are the ones that he doesn't play super-agents-almost-super-heroes, but portrays interesting and profound characters like this one.

      Agree. I’m so old, I saw Risky Business in the theater. He was a proper movie star before his action roles. I felt like his acting took a hiatus. Bare minimum for Ethan Hunt in terms of character.

      @@michaeldowson6988 That's the thing, it didn't have the typical movie fireball. Which is what real explosions are - just a sudden expansion of energy.

    • @thomaschristopherwhite9043
      @thomaschristopherwhite9043 3 місяці тому

      @@griffins750 Depends on where and how powerful the explosive is. Cars in general have a weird construction in that each part isn't strong enough on its own, it's how parts attach together that gives it structural rigidity. So parts rely on each other for strength.
      If you pause the wreck you can see that the roof on the driver's side is raised pushing the rear portion of the roof down along with the B-pillars (like a seesaw). Probably because the bomb was placed under the driver's seat. You can also see there's deformities on the rear quarter panels because as the top rear section of the car came down, the rear quarter panels bent outward.
      Now obviously this is a movie so I'm not expecting this to have an accurate representation of a bombed car but they still put a lot of thought into it.

    This movie got me back into Flight Sim a few years ago. I'd recreate his runs with the overloaded takeoff weight, low altitude flying over the ocean and sketchy landings on small fields in Florida and Louisiana. The hardest part was actually getting over the mountains of northern Columbia near the coast way overloaded. Good fun, great movie.

      It's fake. The dude this is based on made most of it up. Just like Frank Abignale the guy the movie "Catch Me if you can" was based on made most of it up. A reporter did an expose of Abignale and found most of his claims literally couldn't have happened because he could prove where Abignale was at dates and times he claimed many of his exploits. Further, Abignale presents himself as some sort of Robin hood who was sticking it to big business and banks, when the reality his primary base of victims were just regular working stiffs he conned. He also, never worked for the FBI.
      There is zero evidence Barry Seal ever worked for any government entity and it would all be declassified at this point.
      Seal most certainly trafficked guns and drugs, but a CIA asset he was not. He made it up and the stories associated with it, to legitimize a life of crime.
      The list of Charlatans that claim to have worked for the CIA is endless and they always cite "of course theres no evidence, it was classified and hush hush!". This is why this space is ripe for the picking for people that want to make up a fake back story.
      This stuff was super popular in the 70s and 80s with people like Frank Dux (who the movie Bloodsport was based on). Claiming to have basically been a freaking super hero in the employ of the CIA. Of course his actual military records show he was a POG that never left the states.
