      Chicago Dan not necessarily. When you work on a project for 30 years, people are going to come and go. Life has different seasons. It doesn’t mean they “couldn’t deal with each other”. -EP

    A man of many words and few chords. Not many people can put out such great music with a great amount range and sound. A great talent he is! Creative isnt even the word to start to describe his thought process for all things he does. Being outside the box and never selling out...Anton thank you for everything you've done!

      Anton should just stop giving interviews, because what they really are, ya know, no, endless rants, tell us again who the cunts are, how making music makes for such an interesting human being, right, who can only tell you about himself in comparison with all the other shit going on out there, so unlike anybody else on the planet, man, he is interesting, to laugh with, or cry for, he needs the love!

      I often think the same about him. Im a songwriter myself and I long moved away from just using triads, not because I thought using more chords was better but because I literally had no other ideas for only triad chord songs. I felt like I was repeating myself every song. Somehow Anton makes his sound fresh. A rare ability.

    I emphasize with you because I was there in the beginning of the whole music revolution following bands that nobody else liked , got or ever will get ,
    right up until today's love of , or (love to hate)the psyched Nuevo-Gene-Revolution
    More importantly the masses just don't get the creative process and all that it encompasses ,
    unwilling to open their minds in order to accept that inevitable, change is in the air .

    Mainstream music almost always sucked, since from the beginning. Yea, you can't believe me, but this shows how fucked up this world is. Why good bands such *BJM* is on the shadow spot? Why such bands are rare or why it's not on the mainstream? Because people don't want to be being different. It scares the shit out of them, everyone wants to be the same. Music managers are deceiving their musicians to create something that people want, not personally you. It depends how much fans you've, more fans, more money 'we' can get, got it? Yeah! Well, this is one of the reasons why I love *BJM* and its whole crew! They just don't give a shit, they are creative people, they doing what they want, and stood true, since from the beginning. Especially Anton! Go listen to the _Bring Me the Head of Paul McCartney on Heather Mill's Wooden Peg (Dropping Bombs on the White House)_ He's not just a musician, but a revolutionary! Just because he's not that popular doesn't mean shit. It's not he's fault. Many awesome people weren't famous, so what?! It's not necessary to be as famous as for e.x. *The Beatles* and yeah, Anton is right in this one too. *The Beatles* are so overrated. I've personally know many people are just ashamed to say something bad, criticize or just deny the fact that they didn't like *Pink Floyd* or *The Beatles*, because other people would make fun of that person. No, you should be unique as every human should, to make a better tomorrow. Don't hide your opinions, don't hide your real personality, this is why you're bored all the time, this is why you hate yourself! This is why Anton hates rockstars, and this is why Anton is against of 80% of everything what community offers him. And it's absolutely acceptable, when you're a real persona. So, basically, this is what Anton wants to tell us all the time. Most people don't understand him, strange. Take acid, son. Do everything you want, not what the others want. If you're about to find your true happiness, do whatever the fuck you want. This is reality, and stop living in delusional shit. I'm sickin' tired of this world, again. Feel free to disagree, just don't lose your personality, never ever!

    • @BubbaZen10
      @BubbaZen10 8 років тому +1

      How could anyone disagree with that one bud? Truth is truth!
      I just keep wondering what's up with those big white mutton chops??
      (full disclosure here though, i like Floyd and the Beatles a lot. i just don't look at them as some kinds of musical gods though, and don't care if people like them or don't. like it or not, those bands DID pave the way for people like Anton, and i'm sure he knows that. i'm pretty sure he likes some of their music, just not the putting them on a pedestal crap.)

    • @moozycla6
      @moozycla6 8 років тому +2

      BubbaZen10 True that. I also said that you can like everything you want, though. Just don't play on yourself! Some people just intentionally listening to some old school and even they can't get a single fuck what artist is about, they keep to listening, just to say then "Oh, how could I not know that track, it's one of my FAVORITES". Really, though? How people can come up with such ill mentality. Once one dude say to me; "you can't compare Anton Newcombe to Paul McCartney, look how famous Paul is, now look at Anton?!" I was in agony, but stupid people can't see what's behind bars, so I literally quit from the conversation and left him alone with his thoughts, hoping to some day he may change his mind. Otherwise, you lost your true face, if you be fake a little longer.

    • @Itzsfo0
      @Itzsfo0 8 років тому +1

      personally i could careless I like pink floyd far more then brian jonestown massacre, i dont care about commercial this, underground "groundbreaking" "so real brah, so underground, so non-mainstream" half the good music IS mainstream (then again thats subjective, its all taste) but honestly...I dont know of many underground artists that I like as much as R E.M. or Radiohead or King Crimson or Pink Floyd or The Beatles (overrated or not) THAT is your opinion, you arent right, or wrong - you just think they are overrated, I think BJM=just a bunch of junkie fuckups that can barely keep a band together, and have "spots" of talent, spots of good tracks (like thank god for mental illness) I've seen them live, heard 11 of their studio albums, and I've worked at a record store for years, so I dont need the lecture about music, and taste/opinion - I get it, at 38 years old (I've seen so many bands, from death metal to avant-garde, neo-psychedelia, you name it, any genre, any generation, any time period from literally Leadbelly To Daft Punk and everything in between. Be it mainstream EDM, be it modern-folk-funk hybrids, or some random guy like Justin Johnson playing a guitar built from a spade w/ 3 strings. Blah blah - I can respect any artists I dont compare any artist to ANY artist, its stupid, 100 hot lists, 500 greatest albums of all time, blah blah - it doesn't mean anything, no l ists, no comparisons, no debates, no arguments ITS MUSIC (just like all forms of arts & entertainment) it really comes down to what you like, see when your 22 years old your all like "man im in it for the passion, the music BRA, I'm in it for the real underground/indie artists making it on their own, not selling out to the man" you know how cheesy that sounds to me 17 years later ? I just dont care now that I'm nearing 40 years old, I've seen ZZ Top, and Aerosmith perform far better onstage then any of these "fringe" alternative/lo-fi, barely-noticeable bands could ever put out, sometimes its more then just substance, sometimes it IS style, sometimes it IS the aesthetics to rock n roll that add...and no offense but (until BJM puts out a record as good as Wish you Were Here or "Meddle:" from Pink Floyd, I wont even put them into the same category and I've heard alot of what The Dandy Warhols, Scratch Acid, Early Vines, The Myrros, BJM, put out...all that shoegaze stuff, before the later experimental days. And most of it is shit. Theres a reason why alot of mainstream bands sound good, look good and put out great material, I mean do I need to really list all the good mainstream music ? here goes:
      Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Peter Frampton, Blue Oyster Cult, The Who, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix & The Experience, The Guess Who, The MC5, Santana, Grateful Dead, Phish, U2, R.E.M, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, MGMT, Awol Nation, Cage The Elephant, The Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Muse, Morrissey, Coldplay, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice In Chains, Temple of the Dog, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, The Melvins, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Seether, Three Days Grace, Chevelle, CKY, Mars Volta, TOOL, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, ELO, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Kansas, STYX, Journey, Bad Company, Guns n Roses, Foo Fighters, Motorhead, The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, Janis Joplin & Big Brother & The Holding Co, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Country Joe & The Fish, Anything Jimmy Page (both production, early Yardbirds) the same w/ Eric Clapton (Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Cream, Solo Career) Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Buckethead, Steve Vai (Whitesnake, etc), Gorillaz, Beck, Moby, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, RAMMSTEIN, Green Day, The Offspring, Weezer, Mother Love Bone, Iced Earth, Megadeth, Daft Punk, The Neighborhoud, The Myrrors, The Vines, Keane, Dead Meadow, Samsara Blues Experiment, Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age, ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Animals, The Kinks, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, The Verve, Days of the New, Silverchair, Bush, Collective Soul, even in early hip-hop/into the 90s - with artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, Notorious BIG, Tupac Shakur, Solo Wu-tang Records (I Mean come on: Gza: Liquid Swords, Raekwon-Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, classics) Mos Def & Talib Kweli (Black Star) and Mos Def's 1999's "Black on both Sides" great classic album. SO many great classic mainstream albums. 100s if you ask me. I could probably sit down and think and write out another 50 artists in ALL genres (hip hop/trip-hop/pop/rock/all the different sub-genres within rock n roll which theres too many to list in 1 post). I mean come on, anyone that says theres "from the beginning of time nothing but crap music in the mainstream" LOL give me a break, infact I'd say if you took away ALL the mainstream bands you'd only have 20% of the actual music industry...and no offense, I like Modest Mouse, and I like bands "before" they became big, or got that 1 hit single, or signed to a major record label, but honestly 99.9% of ANY musical artist/solo artist/band would do it IF they could (or get a chance to do so) I mean...these bands like "Autolux" or "The Klaxons" or "...and you will know us by the trail of dead" some fringe 1-hit wonder indie band...that goes mainstream with 1 good solid rock record in 2003, If I enjoy the material, the song thats all that matters. I love these types of people "im so underground, im in it for the music" oh so what if its mainstream it can be about the music AND paying the bills ? anyone in music that says they are in it strictly for the music = lying. Period. Me I can see whats behind "bars" I dont care to "compare any artist to any artist" I make music, I love music, I grew up on so much music, "I GET IT" as much as you do, trust me my man I do...but at the same time, does it really matter if someone likes alot of mainstream bands...I WOULD have to say Pink Floyd > Brian Jonestown Massacre IF you made me do a comparison I would say that (and I've heard a pletheroa/large % of BOTH bands material over the years)
      So its not as if I dont know, I'm one of those super nerdy type guys that keeps up to date when it comes to music, I can tell you a band members age, what years what albums came out (etc, etc) I have a very large database/collection of music...and while I understand what your saying, I'm sorry when I discovered The White Album, and Rubber Soul, and Revolver I wouldn't say they are overrated, they were exactly where they should be = in nearly every males collection from the 70s onward and its inspired countless generations...MY point is...how many bands have Brian Jonestown Massacare, Anton, & the revolving doors of musicians have inspired ? Maybe a handful, sure they deserve recognition, no doubt about that...BUT honestly JUST on the credit of the 9-10 albums the Beatles put out, and the material put out...and even IF the Rolling Stones haven't put out a single great track since 1983 I still love all the classics from the 60s/70s (and I dont care about plagiarism when it comes to "oh those classic rock bands of the 70s arena rock days or even before in the mid to late 60s were just ripping of blues artists from yester-year, from previous generations, all those CREAM and Zeppelin, and english-blues covers are just rip offs of earlier material, all those sweat-filled tin-house lodges in the 1940s/1950s blues artists, basically the british invasion/english invasion was just a matter of RE-importing what was already here) yea blah blah I heard all that, but honestly I'd rather hear Led Zeppelsin's "How many More Times" Live-Denmark 1969 12 minute improv-jam. Then Howlin' Wolfs Version (How Many More Years). I can respect the writers and inspiration for material...and you can say whatever you want about alot of these big super famous, god-like in the eyes of the fans rock n roll bands, but I dont ever take it that serious...I dont ever put anyone/any artist up on a pedastal...its a band, JUST a band...why compare anything ? why debate it ? why make a greatest hot 100 list of anything ? why compare the beatles to anyone ? I like them, big deal - doesn't make me "sheepish" or "naive" just makes me a fan of the beatles simplistic sing-along-pop-melodies with ever increasing experimentation and branching out into new musical styles as the years/albums progressed - sure it was probably intentional, all calculated moves (if your a conspiracy theorist type idiot lol) but so ? If i can have a style, and some substance, put out a slew of records...handful of hit songs, sell out tours, and then split up, and have seminal solo careers I don't consider that overrated....I personally (and I hate breaking my own rule and MAKING comparisons) but honestly if were going to do this properly I really do think The Beatles are a far superior musical act to some (they are not my favorite, infact not even in my top 5) However Pink Floyd is, R.E.M is, Radiohead is, and a few others...regardless of record sales, how many die-hard, almost-cult like following of the fans, overrated this, underrated that...does it matter ? if I like it, I like it...I try to avoid comments section[s] on social media...

      Cause this is usually what it becomes we devalue ourselves by arguing things that shouldnt be argued...like MUSIC/Video-Games/Television/Film/Literature (all forms of arts *&* entertainment) no no no The Sopraos is far superior to The Wire, nah Game of Thrones is Better then The Walking Dead, nah Grand Theft Auto V is a highly overrated open world/sandbox/western video game, I think _____ so n so is far superior, nah Jimmy Page is a highly overrated guitarist, and I would put classical flamenco guitarist Ali De Meola far ahead in the talent category or Billy Gibbons is far more talented as a rhythm guitarist then_____ and the fuck is Jack White, The Edge, and Jimmy Page doing together in a 2008 documentary (this is the kind of stuff I hear or read) so many comparisons, so many debates, so many "ranking musicians" or ranking bands, or comparing musical acts or comparing indie vs mainstream...personally I almost never listen to indie artists nowadays that I've gotten older...I just wanna hear the music of my childhood, music of The Scorpions, and The Rolling Stones, and classic first 5 Zeppelin studio LP's, or the first 5 Sabbath recordings, nothing gives me the chills down backbone like those bands when I listen to them (and dont say I haven't heard a score of local/underground/indie artists) cause I have over the years...I could be one of those ass-hats that lists tons and tons of no-name-never-heard-of-before bands just to make a point, but what point would that be ? cause 99% of them I dont enjoy (except with 1 or 2 songs here n there) on Spotify I have 13 Brian Jonestown Massacre records, and after literally weeks/months of sorting through material, I could really only find 9-10 songs that I actually thought were good, and captured my attention.
      They are talented/Anton is definetly one of those skewed genius/though partly rock n roll cliche (hair in face, recovering dope head, classic rocker) "so brutally honest, lights his cigarettes during interviews, something not seen since Kurt Cobain did that on MTV w/ Kurt Loder in 1992) lol...give me a break...its all style its all image its all done on purpose, sure they may be in it for the ART, but they are in it for the girls, the booze, the (what little money indie artists make) and if they get a shot at the big time, "MOST" would take it. You get better recording studios, better promotion, MORE promotion, bigger advances, better traveling options...so yea of course a band wants to get their name out there, make a name for themselves, PAY the bills w/ this musical act, and still make quality music ppl can enjoy, WHY CANT they ? why cant a band still make quality music and be m ainstream (I see it everyday) and dont give me that cliche "oh theres no good music nowadays, all the mainstream stuff is trap-crunk hip/hop pop recycled auto-tune bullshit" yea your right a big % IS crap, but theres always the hidden gems, and sometimes they are mainstream (or like some of the bands I listed above they are on the "fringes of mainstream") meaning they have a international backing support of a record label but...only have modest reviews/sales. But personally I love my classic/oh-so-typical The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, CREAM, Santana, Grateful Dead, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, U2, R.E.M, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, I can put 20-30 albums on a table from those artists that I've enjoyed over the years...some head-popping, some introspection, some late night smoke session blazing / shredding guitar solos, some simple poppy melodies, some folkish accoustic ballads, some keyboard/experimental (frippertronics) ambience/tape-loops w/ "shoegaze" elements, elements of psychedelia, etc, etc...I can flitter from 1 genre to the next, I can listen to some 90s industrial band, then turn right around and listen to Aqualung/Automotive from Jethro Tull, then go even further back to Big Jim Sullivan and early Carl Perkins ...I mean I bounce all over musically....I love the history of rock n roll, the musicians that have created all these great LPs/EPs/live performances...I've been to alot of live events/3-day tent-out concerts, from 94 Woodstock (the only one I'll probably ever attend in my life) to Coachella, to Bonnaroo to MuseFest....
      Now with all that said (apologies for the long run on sentence) as for substance use, I am very counter culture...I grew up basically near a hippie commune...and I live in Washington State (which has a very large % of its populous that supports medical/recreational cannabis use/oils/extracts/edibles and as for psychedelics (psilocybin mushrooms) and other softer/more natural substances whether illicit or not, I can agree with that part of your statement ...do what you want, if something becomes a habit/addiction...well thats on you (and I know all about heroin addiction, opioid addiction I'm a recovering addict, nearly 40 years old, and a huge music fan all my life) So I could LIVE like a rock star, but without the fame or fortune if that makes any sense lol. Anton hates rockstars, when he is one - simple as that...hes just an introverted, recovering addict, with musical talent that (as much as I respect him) I think that he has a slightly bloated sense of reality you know the whole THUMB up in the air, STICK it to the man, I am rebel, fuck mainstream society (thats what you do when your 19, and dosing psychedelics for the first time) after alittle growing up...and 25 years later...you start to be like "yea I can still respect that...I can dig his vibe, respect his audacity...but....sometimes its better just to stay within the confines of the law and not be so loud and obnoxious" I just dont care anymore about any of it, musically I listen to what I like, I dont care if someone see's me listening to some corny hot 100 pop song that (normally most ppl would be embarssed about) b/c if it has a good beat, a good rhythm section, a decent chorus...I may enjoy it...I dont care about the artists themselves so much (or their alignment, politics, personal beliefs)

      He's one of the truest, realist artists on youtube, PERIOD. Being a drugged out junkie might look like fun, and yeah, the music back there was cool, but thank God he made it through that crap, and is still around. It's actually not cool at all, and is absolute hell to go through when it's happening to you. What, would you rather have people suffer for you and then die, just so YOU can have a few cool tunes? Fuck off with that.

      That's what i want- a stream of consciousness take of the BjTM..someone did a book on Nirvana that way, and it was a success.. RAW is better when it comes to bios of music bands.. otherwise, i will start work on a screenplay, based loosely on the work of Kenneth Grant..
