    Just changed my two headlights without incident and working perfectly by following this video. You presented the video well, showing all the details we need and explained it thoroughly and detailed, I’m glad you made it as I doubt I’d of attempted it otherwise, so thanks 👍

    Extremely helpful clip Ant&Tec! Thanks for helping teach us novice mechanic Astra owners to keep our old bombs on the road. I might become a subscriber after this. I had my lens buffed twice but the opaqueness from UV damage returns shortly after. So I bit the bullet and found the cheapest aftermarket replacements headlights with quality globes and oh boy what a difference. I came across a few clips from some egocentric knobs before yours but like your modest no nonsense approach. Nice one👍🏼

      I picked up the headlights from a company here in Melbourne Australia called Ozeparts for $190. I shopped around and they were by far the cheapest. They also sell on eBay but they were about $15 more.
      I splashed out and got the Philips H1 & H7 X-treme Vision G-force +130% Halogen Bulbs even though the old bulbs hadn’t failed. I just thought while I was there doing the job I’d replace them, plus globe technology has come a long way since the old ones that were installed. I bought them from Blingwork Automotive Lighting in Melbourne who recommended that these were the best option for brightness and longevity for the astra. $135 for all 4 globes but that is about the standard price and you can get them anywhere on the internet. You can definitely get cheaper H1 & H7 globes but I wanted the best for maximum illumination.
      I did see that you can just order the lens for about $70 but then you have a huge hassle of getting the old ones off which are adhered to the actual light fitting and glueing the new ones on. I saw some UA-cam clips that show people heating the headlights in the oven on a low heat so the glue softens and then you can pull the old lens off but that process looks painful.

      @@dantheman4100 Hey, thank you for your reply and sorry for getting back after 7 months. I've been waiting for the winter to give us a break here in the UK.
      I will attempt replacing the headlight tomorrow after the sun start to shine again!
      Thank you for sharing tips on the lightbulbs. I might take a look and consider changing my ones as well.

    It is amazing that car manufactures are allowed to make such headlights........to change a bulb is a nightmare and to get the complete lights out you need to get the bumper off..........and this is not the most difficult one.

    This is fucking unbelievable.
    Thank you sir for showing all this but engineers who made this so complicated is unbelievable. Its ok if you are changing THE WHOLE headlight but you also must go through all of this just to replace inner light bulb (low beam). Outter bulb can be changed through the wheel arch but inner one i cant find a easier solution.
    I have adaptive lights on my astra H and D2S bulb died so i have to do all this just for one bulb ... unbelievable :D

    • @ANTandTEC
      @ANTandTEC  2 роки тому

      Yeah it's not ideal! The inner bulb on the left hand side there is usually enough room to get to that one, but the right hand side it is easier to take the air box out.

    • @vforvendetta_.
      @vforvendetta_. 2 роки тому +1

      @@ANTandTEC actually, i just replaced both bulbs. I tried without unscrewing bottom screws and just 2 at the wheel arches, remove opel spoiler in front of radiator and just lightly bend a fender to remove headlights and then replace bulbs. I mean, at this point i might aswell unscrew bottom screws but i dont have a garage and i cant lay below the car so i had to do it this way. It took me about 1h15min for both bulbs since im doing it for the first time.
      Thanks again for showing us this!

    Honestly this seems like a LOT of work compared to taping them off and sanding them with progressively higher grit paper. Then finish with Meguiars PlastX polish. I think the ones in the video were in no way beyond restoring.
    For me the material cost for new headlights is $230. But sandpaper, masking tape and Meguiars is only $40.

    • @ANTandTEC

      Hey that's fine, as I said some people will prefer to refurb, but for me this was the better option 👍

    • @bezaleeluk3696
      @bezaleeluk3696 2 роки тому +1

      refurb is hit and miss, depending on how bad the surface defects are as well as the fact that refurb is usually short lived as new surface is never as well protected as original manufacturer treated plastic regardless of what aftermarket coating you use.

    Hi great video 👏🏼 are the fog light/temp connectors difficult to remove? Do you know how they’re done? I’m a novice but I need to remove the bumper and headlights off my Astra H too

    • @ANTandTEC
      @ANTandTEC  3 роки тому +2

      Hey thanks 🙂
      The temp sensor is just press fitted to the bumper so just need to be pulled out of its mounting position.
      The fog light connectors are held in place with two clips, on on each side of the connector. You need to pull the end of the clips away from the connector and then it will come off.

    Very helpful but which orientation do the bulbs push in as there are two ways they could go in since they have 2 legs and 2 slots. Maybe it doesnt matter which leg goes into which slot?

    • @ANTandTEC
      @ANTandTEC  3 роки тому

      No it does not matter which way.
      Any sockets where orientation does matter the sockets will be keyed so will only fit one way.

    • @cgullcharlie
      @cgullcharlie 3 роки тому

      @@ANTandTEC Thanks it worked !. However the metal assembly the bulb goes in has asymettric tabs but it looks like it doesnt matter as they arent keyed as you say.
