Adrian Smith is one of the most underrated guitar player! His solos are always pertinent! Better than thousands shredders displaying their lifeless techniques😉
Mike Cronis I feel that Starblind is the most important song Maiden have ever written... it would have been the perfect ending to 7th son. sometimes, I get to thinking they are some kind of accidental cosmic teachers are something.
Most of the comments are spot on! Iron Maiden has ALWAYS been great musically but they tell a story in each and every song not many bands even today can claim that. So dam epic it blows my mind.
Love this song. I'm so happy they released such a mindblowing album. Bruce`s vocals, as always, are great. And Nicko's drums are straight up magnificent.
extraordinary song, I close my eyes and I feel being in an endless universe full of mystery, tales, religion. same feeling for all songs of this album. A masterpiece!
Iron Maiden the gods of heavy metal, their amazing music and very poetic and truthful lyrics, is really too good....they´ve never sold out, always true to their craft....and we should be ever so grateful to them for sharing this epic moment....
Iron Maiden usually has fairly ambiguous lyrics, so no one interpretation is necessarily correct or incorrect, but when I went into this song I initially thought it would be about the age of exploration, or maybe the daunting task of exploring space. But later on down the song it occurs to me that The Great Unknown (title drop) isn't a place to be explored but the great unknown that has come over us AFTER the age of exploration, the times of change and uncertainty that are the natural result of our infinite lust for expansion and advancement, where we have now passed the threshold where we can never go back to our old ways ("It will never be the same or calm again") and enter a new and terrifying age with heavy hearts.
I got another interpretation: Our world is a peaceful world that can rage with violence at anytime. What's sad is that everyday there's a new disaster that man is responsible for, and it brings harm to all, sending them into the "great unknown," which is death. And this is all because of our nature to act violently, whether it's selfishness, lust for power, or even vengeance. It may even reference fear of the unknown, like we are constantly living in fear, unaware when our hidden evil will strike back. Our future may be the "great unknown," because we never know what's coming next. It most likely won't be pretty. This is definitely a dark song with a very heavy topic. Mostly looking at our world with a negative view, what a mess it has become, because of man...
I really think that you are a guy that doesn't only like music as music but a guy which likes the meaning of the songs and the music off course and i respect that i really do
The song is obviously about this moment in time and present state of world's civilization, galloping into new dark age because of power-hungry idiots who do not hesitate from starting new world war with more people killed and more states and nations destroyed, with white race wiped off this planet.
this song is one of my favourite ever Maiden songs. seriously. it's so beautiful and mysterious. it even is kinda creepy. i love how the lyrics are ambiguous. and musically it is eerie as fuck. it is mostly a typical Maiden tune but it ends before it really takes off. it leaves you with that sorta weird feeling... i dunno how it can properly be descibed. it's pure art, period.
Imádom az Iron Maident,az új albumot is,különösen ezt a számot.Természetesen ez a lemez is ott figyel eredetiben a cd polcomon a többi mellett!!!!Üdvözlet Magyarországról!!Up The Irons!!!!!!! (y) :-D
Fucking incredible! Forty years to the day and this band still knows how to make one hell of an album! Here's to forty more years (and by forty I obviously mean forever)! Up the irons!
It's months after release of tbos and it still blows my mind in every way. If I had to point one thing that I dont like is how Steve is placed in a mix. But apart from that - it's amazing album, best since SiT in my eyes.
+kind child I enjoyed listeniing to the vocals in this really good song.Doesn`t he actually sing ´And the selfish hearts` although ´In the selfish hearts`seems to be more suitable? Thanks again for the lyrics. I suppose If I really wanted to know I`d look for the actual Lyrics. To be honest I like listening to the songs and reading the translation. You´re doing a great job Sebastian. Don`t mind me!
In a time of deception and destruction not to mention garbage ads music from the mainstream outlets, it is refreshing to hear some good music from the only ones that can. Iron Maiden. Up the Irons from Houston, Texas \m/
Planing a Radio broadcasting with the title "Unbekannte Größe ( The Great Unknown)" and thinking it's time for Iron Maiden, listen to the new Album and finding "The Great Unknown"! God Is A DJ...
I've been a maiden fan since the very beginning and they've just gotten better as they've gone forward(except the two years without Bruce)...lol MAIDEN RULES!!!
People please...I am the biggest Iron Maiden fan without a doubt but are you all Iron Maiden employees? How is this so great? It's repetitive noise lengthened beyond comprehention...Anyone born in the 70's or even early 80's here ? What about that great band you knew every single exciting detail about and could take you 4 straight days and nights to talk about? Would you do the same considering albums only from 2000 onwards? That's half their carreer! Get a grip!
Third best song in the album IMO, right after Empire Of The Clouds and The Book Of Souls. Its ambiguous lyrics remind me of songs like Revelations and Starblind.
The lyrics definitely detail the fall of human societies due to bigotry and greed, I'd guess it's much about genocide and ecocide from various human cultures and the effects of it, the last two lines are very obviously about how when the rest of biological life is destroyed, we will simply be one species surviving on what's left, soon to die ourselves anyway.
rockettare90 yeap saw them twice on the book of souls tour. I went in 2016 and was bummed they didn't play it but his July they played it and it was fucking great. I think I was the only one screaming everyword. People in Toronto don't really like the newer stuff which is a shame.
at the time you say i hear nothing different because it ia at he middle od an ongoing rythm pattern.....are you sure you mean 4 40? try to describe the sound....
Adrian Smith is one of the most underrated guitar player! His solos are always pertinent! Better than thousands shredders displaying their lifeless techniques😉
This song, and Starblind on the previous album are so under-rated.
They're among my favorites in their respective albums
I was going to say it. Thanks.
Agreed.
Mike Cronis
I feel that Starblind is the most important song Maiden have ever written... it would have been the perfect ending to 7th son. sometimes, I get to thinking they are some kind of accidental cosmic teachers are something.
Also the fact that both have ambiguous lyrics, and Revelations, and Out Of The Shadows.
what I find is that this album is full of intelligent music and lyrics. Its poetry.
Linda hatfield-southern j
indeed, instead of popular muisic talking abaut sex and that stuff
Such an underrated song from this album. Also, one of the best choruses they've ever done, too!
Chives5150 The album itself is pretty underrated.
The same tune and rythm is dragging on and on till the first instrumental. Come on...
The Bornless One mainly due to those who are like new maiden is thrash
Most of the comments are spot on! Iron Maiden has ALWAYS been great musically but they tell a story in each and every song not many bands even today can claim that. So dam epic it blows my mind.
One of the best lyrics ever written.
40 fucking years and still the best !
Love this song. I'm so happy they released such a mindblowing album. Bruce`s vocals, as always, are great. And Nicko's drums are straight up magnificent.
H. Gettas yeaaah man, thats it!!
Favorite off the new album. That chorus is just too epic

I really like this song, it has grown on me. It sort of reminds me of Starblind, which was my favourite song from The Final Frontier.
love the guitar in this and the bass. maiden have something special about their music that no other band can make you feel.

Athiesm is unstoppable, My friend
40 years Iron Maiden has rocked us and I expect they will until the end......UP THE IRONS
this song is one of my favourite ever Maiden songs.

Like reading a book or watching a movie with an ambiguous ending, it leaves you to decide how it should end
+Scott Baldwin it could of gone on more for me just getting going
+brucedickinson12 that's what makes it so unsettling and creepy, how it just ends as it's about to take off.
+Scott Baldwin It's how most Maiden tunes make me feel.
This Band died after the Fear of the Dark album....
I believe they should have stopped and just remaster their classics like Killers and so
Imádom az Iron Maident,az új albumot is,különösen ezt a számot.Természetesen ez a lemez is ott figyel eredetiben a cd polcomon a többi mellett!!!!Üdvözlet Magyarországról!!Up The Irons!!!!!!! (y) :-D
I just simply love this band!
this music and speed of light have the best solos from this album!
another one of my favorite songs from this album
one of my favorites off the album.

I just love the intro.. There's something to it. Just a surge of different emotions there. Really amazing. Up the Irons \m/
As their fan back from 1987, this song is one of the best ever.. must be something with growing up.
amongst the best songs of the album. It can be even better played Live.
David Kone in this tour of 2017
Best Irons' album!
Yeah, I think the same.
MY opinión Brave new world
My personal 2nd favorite album. Powerslave just can’t be beaten
Powerslave, iron maiden, somewhere in time, number of the beast, peace of mind Are better

Adrian's solo is badass!!!
Best song off the album, and one of their best songs ever imo. Right up there with hallowed btn.

Awesome song! 👍👍
excellent song.
It's months after release of tbos and it still blows my mind in every way. If I had to point one thing that I dont like is how Steve is placed in a mix. But apart from that - it's amazing album, best since SiT in my eyes.
Love this song!
Words of our times for real. Great tune

+kind child I enjoyed listeniing to the vocals in this really good song.Doesn`t he actually sing ´And the selfish hearts` although ´In the selfish hearts`seems to be more suitable? In a time of deception and destruction not to mention garbage ads music from the mainstream outlets, it is refreshing to hear some good music from the only ones that can. Iron Maiden. Up the Irons from Houston, Texas \m/
Nothing this good on the new album....this rocks.
Planing a Radio broadcasting with the title "Unbekannte Größe ( The Great Unknown)" and thinking it's time for Iron Maiden, listen to the new Album and finding "The Great Unknown"! God Is A DJ...
I don't know about anybody else but I hear some heavy Mercyful Fate influences in the solo at 3:08-3:28!! Great solo!
I've been a maiden fan since the very beginning and they've just gotten better as they've gone forward(except the two years without Bruce)...lol
MAIDEN RULES!!!
I love this song, have nice grooves
great song !
best song on album
iron maiden, the cult and megadeth my favourites
Great song!!
People please...I am the biggest Iron Maiden fan without a doubt but are you all Iron Maiden employees? How is this so great? maiden still jams
THE BETS OF THE ALBUM
This song makes me sad for humanity everytime I hear it. It's about the end of unity. It's everyman for himself in a world filled with violence
The lyrics definitely detail the fall of human societies due to bigotry and greed, I'd guess it's much about genocide and ecocide from various human cultures and the effects of it, the last two lines are very obviously about how when the rest of biological life is destroyed, we will simply be one species surviving on what's left, soon to die ourselves anyway.
this song gives me life. It's so fucking beautiful.

IRON FUCKING MAIDEN 40 YEARS LATER NEVER SOLD OUT AND STILL FUCKING RULES! WHY THEY ARENT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, MIND BOGGLES ME...

Best BoS song, hands down

Eu amo essa musica
It would be Great to hear it live...
rockettare90 You are in luck ! look at the 2017 world tour set list !
rockettare90 yeap saw them twice on the book of souls tour. I went in 2016 and was bummed they didn't play it but his July they played it and it was fucking great. I think I was the only one screaming everyword. People in Toronto don't really like the newer stuff which is a shame.
The music along with the chorus is very similar to the music in 'The man who would be king' chorus...
Thank you for finally stating what I'm looking for. It really sounded familiar...
exactly in the part where it says.
neverending the desires of men
it will never be the same ....
Antonio Dishington Yeah, yeah, I know. Which matches, "Destiny, no good to hide away..."
Maiden of Iron
Khobsurat Hai ye gaana when booth paheli and ghost comes around
It's preying - as in hunting prey
Not praying.- as in pray to god.
La meilleure musique du monde
There are 17 names missing at Book of Souls.
Forever Maiden Now is 19 then no appear in the book of souls
Ha, nice one!
Iron Maiden - The Great Unknown lyrics on screen
The solo at 1.25x is great.
best on the album could of been longer for me tho ,
this song ends when its just getting warmed up , could of been longer
Awesome song. You dont have that image in HQ laying around somewhere I want it as my desktop background.
this song sliped out of matter of life and death
it reminds
me of isle of Avalon of final frontier
me too scott
4:40 backing guitars sound just like another maiden song.... BUT WHAT IS IT???? halp me i'm losing my mind!
+Jonathon Bailey the guitar kinda reminds me where eagles dare and die with your boots on, but its a generic sound..
at the time you say i hear nothing different because it ia at he middle od an ongoing rythm pattern.....are you sure you mean 4 40? try to describe the sound....
+Jonathon Bailey It sounds like the backing guitars during the solo in New Frontier, which was also co-written by Adrian Smith.
+Alessandro and he wins! New frontier is what I was thinking all along. Thanks man, I can finally sleep haha.
up the iron from Indonesia \m/
qual o nome da música do young malmsteen que passa no vídeo
I would prefer so much that this one would have 18 minutes and not Empire of the Clouds
le top
Why isnt this song in The Book of Souls tour? :(
Bruce is barely managing to sing this decently in the studio. I don't expect him to be able to sing this live.
well, you saw it now :)
kick ass band
if someone says they got into iron maiden because of the game i'll blowup your skinny house!
How good is the game though, I only just found it and was like "How the fuck have i never seen this!?"
it's just another turn based combat game. but not bad. I mean it's basic, but again, not to bad. haha
xZombiexWolfx115x It's nothing new, kinda hard to reinvent the wheel. But it is in no way bad. I've always been a huge fan of Turn Based RPGs though
It’s pretty much just fan service. Most of the fun comes from references and the like. I doubt anyone would enjoy if they aren’t a maiden fan.
btw I FuckinLOVE Maiden Like a #REVIVAL!!
Ghost of the navigator 2.0 ?
maiden always talk about dead people n souls not about love like it
Whos responsible for this? Doesn't make much difference at this point. Love one another...cutting onions
