Maureen McGovern also sang the Oscar-winning song "We May Never Love Like This Again" for "The Towering Inferno" two years later, in which she is featured performing it live in the party scene before the tower goes up in flames. "There's A New Girl In Town" was written by prolific film composer David Shire and lyricists Alan & Marilyn Bergman, best known for writing lyrics for the Oscar-winning "The Way We Were," the Barbra Streisand #1 Pop mega-hit. Shire would later win his own Academy Award for "It Goes Like It Goes" (with lyrics by the aforementioned Norman Gimbel) from "Norma Rae," sung by Jennifer Warnes, who also sang "I've Had The Time of My Life," a duet with Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers and the Oscar- and multiple Grammy-winning smash from "Dirty Dancing." Earlier, Warnes had duet-ed with Joe Cocker on "Up Where We Belong," the Oscar-winning and #1 Pop song from "An Officer & A Gentleman." Those lyrics were written by Will Jennings, who did the lyrics to--wait for it--"My Heart Will Go On," the Celine Dion anthem from "Titanic" and the only song in the history of recorded music to become a #1 Pop and #1 AC hit, as well as winning the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original Song, and Grammys for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Song written for Film or Television, and Best Female Pop Vocal. Jennifer Warnes remains the only female vocalist to have sung three Academy-Award winning songs. The only other vocalists with this achievement are Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Irene Cara, Madonna, Peabo Bryson and Celine Dion are the only other singers with two apiece. Only Barbra Streisand and Elton John actually received a statue as songwriters. John is the only one who wrote and sang both his Oscar-winning songs, while Streisand is one of only two Oscar-winning songwriter/actors who also starred in the film in which the song appears. The other was Keith Carradine. Streisand is the only singer/actor to have won an Oscar for both songwriting as well as acting.
