    Many years ago, I knew a lead guitar player who was really good and he wanted to play on my guitar for a change. Mind you, I was always more interesting in rhythm and tailored my guitar according to that. He was kinda devastated that he can't get a single solo straight because of my string tension and "regular" action instead of "stupidly low action." When I used his guitar instead, my limited lead playing felt like it it worked effortless like butter. From then on I appreciated the school of hard knox that I involuntarily put myself through. If you want to get more results playing, raise the action and increase string tension. When you get used to that, drop tension and action again for some suddenly impressive results :) That's why it pays to keep on doing it the hard way.

    As a pianist, I can say that's roughly what I expected it to sound like: a muted guitar. From what I've gathered (and I could be wrong about this,) the piano strings are a bit thicker and thus a bit harder to control, yet at the end, you get a muted version of the guitar sound, thanks to the acoustic hole. As for the people commenting about how painful it was to watch, I personally didn't get that out of it. The piano he mutilated had seen better days, and served a good purpose here. Great vid dude!

    You know I tried that when I was 11 or 12 and yes just one piano string started a crack in the guitar as I was tightening it. This was in the ‘70s so no super tape available, and tensile strength didn’t even enter my thought process. But My friends and I were delighted by that discovery. Boys being boys.

    Wound piano strings have larger core wire for their diameter than guitar strings, so they have higher tension. I play bass; my fretless basses are strung with Fender flatwounds, and my fretted with D'addario Pro Steels, both the same gauge. The roundwounds are about 175 lbs of tension per set, while the flats are about 240lbs of tension. So I made my fretless basses with thicker necks and dual truss rods to compensate.
    You could probably get a great result by keeping the plain strings as they are and gauging down several hundredths on the wound strings

      @Mark Pozsar you're right, pros recommend to change once every month to keep the strings fresh and best sounding as possible. Just look at any number of guitar tutorials, Andrew foy says it in his q+as. Please do your research lol.

    • @abhishekdey2579
      @abhishekdey2579 3 роки тому +1

      @Saranoth25 don't worry, you're answer is pretty spot on for a person who's learning guitar, changing strings often isn't a necessity, but if you can change them once every month or two please do.

    Well, that's not a good professional lol, you can put literally any strings, it's the tension that you should worry about (and yea, some kind of strings would need to much tension to sound good but mainly not strings designed for instruments)
