Perry was a crooner from the '50s and had a long career and his own TV show back in the '50s. He had a very smooth and velvety voice and was very popular with several other hits.
It's old school, like you hear the 50's, but the orchestration is classic late 60's early 70s. Crooners never go out of style. Just imagine a romantic dinner and dancing to this tune. It works even in 2024.
I knew it was his song but have never heard his version before today. It's been covered and sung many times over by jazz and pop artists alike. My absolute favorite version is by The New Birth.
Hi, Just: My brother and I used to sing, "It's impossible when they said he'd have another hit, it's just impossible". I appreciate him now for all his singing talent. My dad told me that when his prospector friends heard him on the radio in the bush, they said that this new singer was going places and they were right.
What's great about Just Jammin' is that he has an open mind - or open ear - to any kind of music, and gives everything a respectful listen. (That's why we all come here when we should be working.) He's right that this song has a '50s feel but somehow it didn't matter. I'm looking at my local chart from December 13, 1970 and see it listed with Santana's Black Magic Woman, George Harrison's My Sweet Lord, and Smokey Robinson's Tears of a Clown -- and to us listening back then, it didn't sound the slightest bit old.
(I was listening to this very song on YT when I saw the box where you reacted to it a few hours earlier). I was a small child when I first heard the original recording of this song (Somos Novios) by Armando Manzanero! I did not understand the language, but I loved the man's voice and passion in his song delivery! A couple of years later I heard Perry Como's version on the radio and I recognized the melody and knew it was an English version of this beautiful song! I loved the way you listened with your eyes closed throughout the song! I believe that you are an old soul JJ! Great reaction!
I agree, it sounds very fifties 😊❤. A beautiful track. My Dad played it frequently. He died many years ago. This track reminds me of him. Thankyou so much for reviewing this song. I wish I could hug Dad, though he's always in my heart, so he never really left.
You should check out the album Rhythm, Country & Blues. A fantastic line up of artists.. pick whatever song you like, I like Rainy Night in Georgia- Conway Twitty and Sam Moore. ✌🏻
Please listen to world famous or psycho dwarf by the beatnuts which is self produced by them it’s a great song you’ll like it since there beats are good and are 2 of their best songs
I loved your reaction to this classic song. It truly was an easy listening classic from the 1970’s with a 1950’s vibe. I did like and subscribe. I’ll be checking out your channel. I think I’ve seen you on Momma’s videos. You were probably put in my feed, though because of, It’s Impossible. Believe it or not. It was covered just a few weeks ago by a 20 yo female singer. I’m going to link it below if you want to see a modern take on it. Spoiler, she honors the original with her golden voice. She’s not known for her Perry Como covers though. Dan Wesley who asked her to sing the song, had previously done two mini-docs on her singing. He provided her a piano track that turned out was in her key. It is one of her favorite songs but she could never find a music track in her key as Perry made it famous. With that a collaboration was born and a modern version was recorded. Another point of interest; the song was written in Spanish by a Mexican composer. Perry sang and had the first English language hit from a translation. So now you are up to date on the history of this song. Here’s Dan Wesley on piano and backing vocals and as lead vocal, Tori Holub.
