This song "Killing Me Softly" won the Grammy awards for: "Record of the year", "Song of the year" and "Pop Female Vocal of the year" for Ms. Roberta Flack. It was written back in 1971 by composer Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimble. It was first sung by Ms. Lori Lieberman in (1971) and failed to chart at all. And in 1973 Roberta Flack would take this song to international fame as the number one record in the UK, Canada and the USA. This version by Perry Como also came out in 1973. Awesome! Note: Perry Como was an international superstar back in the 40's, 50's 60's and 70's. He was one of those crooners like Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams with a smooth and soulful voice full of passion. His biggest hits were "It's Impossible'" and "And I Love You So." He is worth future reactions by you both. Awesome upload!
Perry Como was one of the classiest of all time. I know of his interaction with someone who helped him with a flat tire on a parkway. His tv show was great and his yearly Christmas/Holiday show was special. He would sing Ava Maria.
The song was composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel and Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean. Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. In 1973 it became a number-one hit in the United States, Australia and Canada for Roberta Flack. It was also released by Perry Como and Johnny Mathis in 1973 but Flack was the one who had the huge hit with it first.
Lori Lieberman had the original hit back in 1972. The song was written between 1970 and 71, there have been many covers including Perry Como's, the most famous one of all by Roberta Flack which made no 1 and got a Grammy award for it.
This song was picked up in Europe to. German female vocalist Katja Ebstein recorded it, sung in German in 1973. I've always loved this song, it's a special one.
This is another one of the smooth crooners from the 40's-70's. He sold millions of records & pioneered a weekly musical variety television show. He received numerous awards for his music. The best version of this song "Killing Me Softly" is Roberta Flack.
Roberta flack did a version in the 1970s that was amazing and Roberta flack version is the one that I need a hill and the fugees did a remake of. Got to love Perry Como. 👍♥️
Thank you for reaction! As big Como fan I can say that he had a unique, melodious, soft, soothing voice. A very long succefull career since 30's till 90's. You may watch some of Como live performances on my channel.
Wow I've heard this song A Thousand Times by Roberta Flack which is just such a beautiful voice, is a beautiful song, and also I think a Fuji or somebody like that also tried to sing it, but I never knew Perry Como did! man what a beautiful rendition!!
Huge surprise! I had no idea Como had ever recorded this. I didn't even know he was still alive when this was out by Roberta Flack. Perry sings it beautifully, thought it's hard to mess this one up. (Side note: Perry Como was my mother's favorite singer, her heart-throb, back the 40's to 60's. I didn't appreciate him much then, but he sure sounded good here!)
This is awesome, one of my dad's favorite singers. He had a TV show starting way back to 1950. He covered all the popular songs back then and was on radio even before that. Had song great guests on his shows
Check out Roberta Flack’s version, she won a few awards !! I listened to Perry Como when my parents played the records & have loved his voice & his smile since then! Perry Como a crooner for sure 💜🎶☮️😻
This song was written by Charles Fox and Normal Gimbel after Lori Lieberman had gone to a Don McLean concert (American Pie and Vincent). She gave them her thoughts on McLean's performance and they wrote the song for her to record. It didn't chart and in 1973 Roberta Flack did a cover of it and hit #1. Listen to Roberta's original hit version. Peace out.
Lori Lieberman helped write this song after attending a Don McClean concert. Don McClean of course is the Talent that wrote and performed "Miss American Pie" and "Vincent (Starry Night)"
I never heard this from him. He is a great singer but I remember him from my childhood, not from this time, Roberta Flack = is who I know this by in my late teens. Perry Como, Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, Don't let the stars get in your eyes, There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays (1954)
Written by Charles Ira Fox with writing partners Lori Lieberman (who sang it first(19772), and Norman Gimbel. In1973 it became a hit for Roberta Flack which was a number hit for her, won a Grammy Award Best Female Pop Vocal for that year. The Fugees cover the 1996 .The song was also covered Perry Como and Johnny Mathis both in 1973.
When I lived in FL in the 60's my dad went to Perry's house in Jupiter, FL to do glass work in his home. My dad owned a glass company and installed store fronts and private homes with windows, mirrors, etc. My dad said he was a nice guy and had a lovely home. Just a little story. There were so many crooners back then. You should do Roberta Flacks version. Perry covered her song. Her version is more emotional than Perry's. It is exceptional. Cheers from Canada
Perry Como had one of the most mellow voices in all popular music, yet his life story could make for a pretty exciting movie. Former singing barber being groomed at MGM to be a leading man until he stood up at Louis B. Mayer’s birthday party and sang, “Mr. Mayer, **** you!”
This guy was big time in the mid-50's; had a very popular prime time tv show. His recording of "Round & Round" w/ its' rollicking tempo & choral backing is still a fav of mine, even after all these years. I hope you get to hear it sometime before you "slip the surly bonds/cash in your chips".
I'm not much into this particular song, but man do I remember Perry Como. Watched his show on our old b&w round screen Zenith TV in the early 1950's when I was 7 years old. That kid I once was could never have guessed....
MY OLDMANS FAVORITE GREW UP WITH THIS AND NAT KING COLE, A HOUSE FULL OF IRISH ,MY FATHER SINGING INTO A CANDLE STICK,........ HE PASSED NEARLY 10 YEARS NOW ........ BUT THIS BRINGS HIM RIGHT BACK HOME EVERYTIME i HEAR IT EVEN THE FUJIS VERSION ........IT JUST BUSTS ME UP AND THE TEARS AND MEMORIES COMING FLOODING BACK......... AWESOME VOCALS AWESOME RECORD LISTEN TO THIS ON THE ''AND I LOVE YOU SO ''ALBUM MY FAVORITE IS ''I WANNA GIVE''
"Mr. C", as he was nicknamed, did not start speaking English until he started school, as his parents were both from Italy and spoke Italian at home. He was a barber from the age of 14 and would sing, even though he never had a voice lesson.
You should react to the original by Lori Lieberman, she told the songwriters about her reaction to a concert (I believe it was Neil Diamond ) and they came up with this song!!
Lori Lieberman what’s the one who sing it first, then Roberta Flack, and then the Fugees with Lauryn Hill. Perry Como did this cover 1973. Johnny Mathes also did a cover in 1973.
Happy to see a reactor react to Perry Como. I don’t think I knew this version of the song either. May I suggest Andy Williams, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “Moon River”. His version of The Most Wonderful Time if the Year is the one all of us old timers grew up hearing year after year. He had a very popular variety show which often makes featured The Osmond Brothers when Donny was very young.
❤️🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! ☃️❄️🎄⭐️ This song was originally sung by Roberta Flack in the 70’s. It was the exact slow version as this one by Perry Como. Thank you!!! 👍🏻 ⭐️ ❤️ 🥰❤️ S and M SQUAD IS THE BEST!!! ❤️🥰❤️

A male version? This isn't a love song. and so "his" and "her" are immaterial! It's the story of somebody responding to watching a performance by a "sensitive" singer/songwriter ( Don McLean according to Lori Lieberman) I guess Perry didn't understand that...or lots of other people either!
I’m more acquainted with the Roberta Flack version which was a huge hit. Both versions were released in 1973, Roberta’s version hitting it big. The original version of this song is about a female that is listening to a male singer who is killing her softly with his song.

It was originally written by a woman, and a huge hit for Roberta Flack in 1973. Perry's is a remake. Listen to Roberta. It will blow you away.
My favorite Perry Como song is "And I Love You So."
The writer wrote the first version.
Roberta flack won a Grammy with her version of it.
I think Sinatra did it too.
Great Voice
Perry had it first back when I was a kid.
No!
Como's performance in old analog black and white... Duh!
Gotta give this one to Roberta Flack. The voice and emotion of her voice brings it for me.
"Telling Us Softly With Her Calm"
Chorus:
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers
Stringin' our time with her words
Telling us softly with her calm
Telling us softly with her calm
Takin' her whole time with her words
Telling us softly with her calm
We heard she had a good calm
We heard she had a style
And so we came to see her
To listen for a while
And there she was this expert
A doctor to advise
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
I felt all flushed with fever
Needed to leave the crowd
I could not find my questions
To read each one out loud
I prayed that she would finish
But she just kept right on
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
She talked as if she knew us
Like the voice at Carousel
No rapid tests for the public
The millions kept on shelves
And she just kept on talkin'
Talkin' 'bout Omicron
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
She was scrummin' our brains
Yeah, she was stringin' our time
Readin' the data with her calm
Telling us softly with her calm
Takin' her whole time with her words
Telling us softly to be strong
Letter: Dr. Henry seems content with B.C. being last with rapid tests
